I recently had a vintage Rolex watch repaired at the Old Orchard site I noticed that the bracelet was extremely light . Will be taking it to the Rolex dealer in the mall. Red Flag #1The owner told me he was an authorized Rolex repair shop, I should have known something was fishy when he left a message asking if I could kindly pay in cash. I went to pick up my watch and they wouldn't take any other form of payment anyway. So if I wanted my watch back, had to bring a stack of cash. Red Flag #2 When he handed me the watch, he told me not to take a hot shower with it on and no swimming. This is a Rolex folks! Now I'm scared. I explained that these watches were intended for diving so.... what??? I said there should never be an issue with showering and swimming and questioned about the parts used in the repair and their authenticity. He assured me that not only did he use authentic parts, but there was no such thing as fake rolex parts. gulp. My son and I left with my watch and a sinking feeling that I had just been taken for a ride. Red Flag #3 I cracked the crystal a week later while gardening. In case you don't already know, Rolex makes one of the toughest watches out there. These suckers can take a beating. A middle aged woman gardening does not equal a 300 lb gorilla with a hammer, not that a rolex couldn't handle it, but still. Instead of taking the watch back to Rapid Repair, I did what I should have done from the beginning and took it to a Rolex dealer. You'll never believe what they found! Fake parts, shoddy workmanship and in order to bring the watch back to basics, it is now costing me 3 times as much as this "gentleman" charged me to recondition my watch. I'm writing this review because I would have liked to read it before choosing to go to this jeweler. I have two rings I wanted soldered together. I went in, showed a young guy the rings and which one I wanted on top and he told me to come back the next day at 12. The next day I went back at noon and an older gentleman told me that he had not even started on my rings. He then took them out and said "you wanted it like this?" And put the wrong one on top. I showed him which way I wanted the rings and told him I'd come back at 4. When I came back, he had soldered them the wrong way (the way that I had just corrected him not only a few hour earlier). I was upset and told him he had done it wrong, so he took off my solitaire diamond and turned it around. The positioning of the lower ring was then off. One stone was literally noticeably lower than the one across from it, but he claimed he couldn't tell. I came back today to get the ring and just decided to take it with me regardless of what happened because this guy just couldn't figure out what I wanted. The stones are okay, but the gold band has been clearly manipulated and anyone looking close up can see that. I've had my rings resized before and have never seen any marks to the gold. Oh yeah, and then he charged me full price (after three visits over two days). I advice you go elsewhere for your jewelry modifications. read more

Don't waste your money getting your watch battery here. First of all the repair tech charges $31 (if you pay by card) and $28 if you pay cash. Is that even allowed? Second, that's an insane cost to change a battery, even for a Michele watch. When he told me the price, I said that it was more than I expected, and that I changed my mind. He said "well, what were you expecting to pay?" I've had batteries changed in my Michele watch before for $10 at MCJ in Buffalo Grove, and I told him this. He scoffed and told me that it isn't true. He then tried to bargain the price down to $25. I took my watch and left. For $10, you can change your watch battery at MCJ. They're way friendlier, too. read more

I recently stopped by this location while I was out shopping to get a watch battery replaced. The repair really was rapid, I paid a good price for the repair, and was on my way again. The man that helped me out was also really friendly and prompt. Definitely will remember you guys are here in the future if I need more repairs done! read more

Went here to get two watch batteries replaced. Came back after the 20 minutes he said it would take, and he asked multiple times if I wanted to pay in cash. I told him I didn't have any and needed to pay with CC. There was a fee for using a CC, but I would rather pay that $2 then go to an ATM and pay those fees. He said ok.. This is where it went wrong.... rang it up as cash and wouldn't let me pay with CC. He said he didn't know how to cancel the transaction and needed to put cash in the register. Claimed he wasn't the owner and had no idea what to do. In the end had to pay $7 in fees to the ATM downstair, and deal with this guy telling me over and over he needed cash. If you don't take CC, don't advertise that you do! read more

Not sure if this is the same owner "Sam" but would not recommend for anything more than a battery repair. I took a ring to get resized (smaller) I know how it's done but don't have the equipment so I took a chance with this guy. Like so many others he asked to be paid in cash. No problem....but his work is shoddy. We measured for the correct size and it came back too small. Also this is a John Hardy oxidized .925 piece....meaning it takes months to get the correct color. It also has black sapphires which this clown insisted were black diamonds. When I picked it up, it had been cleaned and polished! In any other circumstance this would be ok but this piece is supposed to be black. He said, "no problem" and painted some gel on it (probably peroxide gel) which gave it a brownish tinge. So now it's the wrong color, wrong size, and you can still see where he cut it because he didn't solder enough silver to fill in the gap that he cut. Then has the balls to charge me full price with no excuses! This guy is a hack and a shoemaker if your know what that means. Go elsewhere. read more

Non existent customer service.!! Terrible attitude!! He would not even look me in the eye!!! And he rips off his customers by charging a fee for using a credit card even though he runs it through as a debit! I was so upset by the whole experience that I was speechless. Please go meet Sam, a highly skilled jewelry repair specialist and perhaps but I would not know for certain, he may be able to design a custom ring mount for the diamond or other "stones" you have as he did for me. Sam is a great guy. I am copy/pasting how I discovered Sam as I had walked out of another old orchard mall jewelry store. The good news is that when I walked out the door, I discovered RAPID REPAIR, a store that specialize"s in Jewelry, Watches and even eye glass repairs, right next to Hellsbergs store.. I met Sam and explained my situation to him about mounting the stone and baggat diamonds. Sam is a great great guy, one of the kindest man I have ever met. Sam took a careful look at my diamonds. Then he sketched out a few designs that he could create to make a ring using the marquis and the baggets...I loved his design concepts and chose one of them. In other words, He was going to create and then make a custom setting for me!! WOW, I thought how good is this. I asked what he would charge. With a perfect weight in White Gold and hs own customs design would be $300 Absolutely an amazing price for a custom design. Sam is the best in the business. Though he could not gone it done today, he would have it ready tomorrow. I hope that you visit SAM for all your repair needs, Also, why not ask him anything else that you would want? I had a horrible experience with this place and would avoid them at all cost. They are extremely rude and don't care about their customers. I brought in a watch to have the stem repaired that broke. Within weeks of them fixing it the stem broke off again. When I brought it back they denied I ever brought it to them or that they did the work. They blamed me for it being broken. I had a good experience here once getting my rings cleaned so I kept going back for watch batteries and minor repairs. It's pretty convenient to stop in while running other errands at the mall. There are a number of repair men who seem to work here and the first one I dealt with was knowledgeable and helpful but since then I've had a few interactions with another man who equates poorly concealed contempt with customer service. I think I'll find another shop for my needs and not interrupt the guy anymore during his very important smartphone scrolling. read more

Do. Not. Bother. I took a watch here to have the band replaced. The gentleman told me he would need to order a new band, that it would take a week, and that he would call me when it was in. After more than two weeks went by without hearing anything, I came back. He then told me that he was unable to order the band and that I should order it myself online. I love the guy who works at Old Orchard, but a week after I had my RayBans fixed the first time for $35.00, they broke in the same spot. I brought them back and the guy I really like who seems really honest has not repaired them again and it's been over a month. He said he'd call me yesterday and never did. Whatever you do don't take anything to this hack. I used to take my watches here for battery replacement because it seemed like they knew what they where doing, prompt and inexpensive. The last time I visited was two weeks ago when I came in for a battery change on an older prized watch. I think this guy was named Marc, he told me it would be twenty minutes and so I went shopping and came back. When I came back he told me the battery had leaked and my watch was ruined. He said he might be able to get it fixed and if I wanted to leave it with him he would call me with an estimate before doing anything. A week went by and no call, so I called and he said he'd need another week and that he had worked on cleaning it and that it was not running well. Another week went by and no call. I went back to get the watch and he told me he had fixed it and when I looked at it it appeared to be scratched up, even the inside of the crystal was scratched. I was appalled. When I questioned him about what he had done and why he did not call me with an estimate, he insisted that he did and began demanding payment, and insulting me, Telling me the watch was filled with water? He said he did me a big favor by fixing it and that I must have had a hard life? Can you believe this guy? I told him I would never do business with him again. The watch ran for about an hour after I left and then stopped. I want my money back and I think I'll call the better business bureau.
