After getting our appraisals and getting our jewelry back, the watch they appraised and cleaned was running very slow. It was not that way when I dropped it off for appraisal. We paid $50 extra to have the watch cleaned, so assumed they were cleaning the entire watch. When I called to ask if they could take a look at and fix the watch, they told me to bring it in and they would quote me for the fix. I pushed back and they said this happens sometimes - a watch will be cleaned and coincidentally will develop an unrelated problem. That's when I asked if something could have happened when they cleaned the watch. I was told they only cleaned the band and not the watch itself. This was not what was explained when I agreed to the cleaning. Simply stated, they asked if I wanted the watched cleaned for another $50. I think they probably meant the band but that wasn't how it was proposed to me. The quote was $275 to fix it, I find it is very odd that you drop off a perfectly working watch for appraisal and the timing mechanism develops a problem while just sitting there. I don't understanding but will give Daniel's the benefit of the doubt and agree it must have just been bad timing. I'm still happy with Daniel's Jewelry overall but have to knock off one star for the confusion around the appraisal followed by the repair. read more

We came in for our annual cleaning of our wedding rings. The owner, Valerie greeted us & said, "it must be that time," referring to our arrival to drop off our rings for cleaning, polishing, reshaping & checking for any loose stones. We have been long time customers when we relocated from Southern California to Glenview for work downtown. We have purchased earrings, some different pieces from the estate jewelry cabinet & watchbands. All of the staff is quite pleasant & personable. Valerie really knows her field & Arthur crafts, cleans & repairs everything that we have brought in. Valerie helped us pick out a simple band honoring our 40th wedding anniversary. I have been going to Daniel's for about 20 years based on my mother's recommendation. Valerie is amazing - so customer centric! When I am there to pick something up, I can hear her working with customers on designs, appraisals, and purchases and she really knows her stuff. I primarily take my jewelry there for repairs of ANY kind (e.g., ring resizing, changing out clasps for larger sizes, replacing lost stones, checking and repairing prongs on rings, adding/moving charms on my gold charm bracelet, designing and creating bracelets from a long heirloom pearl strand, and even creating charms from a former bracelet to be given as gifts). They are incredibly reasonable and do a great job with EVERY repair. I have also purchased a few pieces from Daniel's including two rings and a bracelet - all of which I love. They have GORGEOUS new and estate jewelry at a myriad of different price points. And although my purchases have been on the lower end of the price point spectrum, they always treat you like you are buying an Elizabeth Taylor diamond. But most importantly to me, is trust. My mom brought her ring to get it repaired on July 22nd and the workers told her that it would be ready in two weeks. Two weeks later, my mom did not receive any phone call from the store and called to see what the status of the ring was. No one picked up and she drove to the location and saw that the store was closed due to the staff being on vacation. A phone number was listed on the sign, however, and my mom called the number and the lady on the other end said to come to the store the following Tuesday (8/15). My mother went to the store on Tuesday (today) and the workers there said that the ring is still not ready and that they will give her a call tomorrow on what the ETA is. As much as I would like to support a business that is family-owned, this type of service is unacceptable. There is a lack of transparency provided by staff for when the ring is available for pick up, and my mom had to go through the lengths to call the business on several occasions and visit the store multiple times for no reason whatsoever. 1/5 Stars. read more

ALL the people who work here are impatient and incompetent. Every interaction I've had with them over the phone and in store was frustrating and even insulting. I had a piece of jewelry worked on and the lady was so incredibly arrogant and condescending, I felt uncomfortable questioning her work and giving her instructions. She shut down my ideas and I trusted her to know what she is doing better than me. When I received the piece, I realized that I should have listened to my gut and walked out of there the first day I met her. It's important to mention that I had to wait 5 weeks for a job that was supposed to take 1 week. As I called to check on the status, week after week, I was never given an apology or even an excuse. An irritated voice on the other line would tell me to call next week each time. When I finally received the piece, I wanted to cry. The craftsmanship was so poor, my daughter could have done better in jewelry class. I needed this piece for an event and had no time to walk away and have someone else do the job. I truly believe she banked on this when she delayed the job. She told me I wouldn't have to pay until I see the finished product. But the project was very expensive and she wanted me to be in a position where I couldn't walk away. She got her wish. read more

This is the worst jeweler I have ever been to. I brought a watch in to get a new battery, work done on the crystal, and get gold plated. They told me this would be no problem. A month and a half went by and I still had not heard from them. I had to call in and see what the status was. Apparentally they had finished the crystal and put a new battery in, but were still looking for someone else to gold plate it. I called back several times to see if they had finished their job. Went in there to receive an appraisal on a jewelry, walked in there and wasn't greeted right away. I was given attitude since I had to make an appointment for which I didn't know. Point is I didn't feel very welcomed and was asked if this was the last appraisal i would bring in (as if i'm a burden and they don't want my money). My family had the same jeweler since 1937. 3 generations later my fiancé and I went to the family jeweler. He took good care of us. In 1992 they sold their business. I thought what will we do for our future needs? I moved to Glenview and looked through the phone book for jewelers. I called several, but was not impressed. My sister gave me the name of her jeweler in Morton Grove and I went there. It is 1:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday and I was the only customer. I told them my sister who they know referred me. They surely were not warm or friendly so I walked out. However, upon calling Daniel's I was very impressed. I went to the store and there I met Albert and Valery for the first time. All I needed at the time was to have my diamond ring checked as I caught it in a file drawer and was worried I cracked it. I also needed a watch battery. Valery was so congenial and friendly. She checked the diamond and said it was fine, no cracks. She asked if she could clean the ring and of course I said yes. She then put a battery in my watch. Here it is 24 years later and I am still a customer of Daniel's. They have made custom jewelry for me that is incredible! We have bought other pieces of jewelry as Val knows my taste so well it is actually scary!! I get many compliments on my jewelry and family & friends ask for my jewelers name. I referred many friends and family to them and they are always happy and grateful as at Daniel's they go the extra mile to please you. I had my Dad's 14kt Gold Confirmation ring his Godfather had sent to him from Italy, I loved this ring, but it fit on my thumb. I went to 6 different jewelers to have it sized down and they refused to do it because the ring was quite old 60+ years and they feared they would crack the shank of the ring which would destroy the side designs. Albert was not afraid and guaranteed me he would not crack it. HE DID IT!!!! I was so happy as now I can wear the ring which is now over 90 years old! You will find quality workmanship and fair pricing. My niece's husband bought her a diamond and sapphire bracelet from some Mall Jeweler (stay away from them). Anyhow, my birthstone is sapphire and I fell in love with the bracelet. My husband got me that bracelet from Val's to celebrate our 10th anniversary which is sapphire and my birthstone. It is gorgeous! When my niece saw it she said to her husband, my aunt's bracelet is much bigger than mine. Mine is twice the carat weight and two links had to be removed and Val made earrings out of them. My husband paid only $400.00 more than my niece husband did and twice the carat weight plus earrings!!!! If I could give Daniel's 6 Stars, I would. I have never been disappointed. I read some negative feed back and was stunned as I never was nor did I ever witness any customers treated in such a way that the negative responders wrote. Anyone who knows me, knows how fussy & particular I am.....that is why they ask for the name of my jeweler, my doctors, car salesman, banker and more. They know I only go to First Class kind of people and that is what you get at Daniel's. Don't let those negative feedbacks dissuade you. They probably wanted a 1 carat flawless D color diamond for $1,500.00.......well those days are long gone. It is the 21st Century. Give Daniel's a try and I bet you won't be disappointed. He won't even honor one's drivers license as proof of identification. Just the other day, one of my lawyer friends entered the store without his ticket. He summoned the Glenview police to the retail establishment to settle the score and get his repaired watch back from Daniel's. The moral of the story: Next time you need jewelry and watches serviced, go to Raphael Jewelers at the intersection of Glenview and Waukegan Roads in Glenview.
