I have a Junkers Zeppelin "Los Angeles" automatic which needed repair. The caliber of this watch is an unusual (and discontinued) one, and few people were willing to do the work. Another watchmaker tried and failed to bring it back to working order. After finally contacting the manufacturer, they recommended BMC Timeworks as the only shop in the US they trusted to do the repair. Boris at BMC Timeworks did the work and did it well. He helped me understand the problem and gave me options on how to get it fixed. He was able to repair the movement when no one else could or would. In the end, although the work was extensive, he charged me a fair price. Now I have my beloved watch back and I'm thrilled. It works perfectly and looks as good as it did when I bought it. I still stand by this review. After a nice visit today, I had the thought that carrying true Perlon straps in the store might be a nice idea. They're light, waterproof and quick-drying, durable without fraying, and almost infinitely adjustable. Lots of colors available and so on. I doubt there are any other physical retailers around so it could stand out and they suit vintage to modern watches well. read more

I needed to adjust a watch band and Yelp led me here. The owner seems to really get into his craft, he's surrounded by coo coo clocks and watches and he works on these items on site. Some of you may be surrounded by coo coo people at work - so it's easy for you to relate. Do you agree?? Anyway, he gave me some very candid comments about my favorite brand (German and German movement) and I was a bit disappointed but I'm a grown man - I can take that feedback. All roads lead back to Swiss movement - apparently. The most expensive watch that he's worked on was valued at $350,000 USD, if you can believe that. I had a clock that I got at a union convention years ago. It stopped working. I took it in and got an estimate and a guess at the time it would take to repair. I got a call in a few days, got the price, and was able to pick it up. It worked fine and has been working fine ever since. I found BMC Timeworks after doing some research online for a top-quality watch repair shop in my area. Coming into the store for the first time, it was easy to tell that Boris is a master of his craft, but on top of his craftsmanship he is also a tremendous mentsch. Two specific reasons why I'd recommend Boris. 1) He doesn't cut corners in providing quality workmanship in a timely manner, 2) His pricing is fair and honest. Two specific incidents come to mind: Boris fixed my vintage Omega Seamaster from my Dad's Bar Mitzvah (unfortunately, it fell off my wrist, the crystal smashed, and hands got lost). He walked me through the process of overhauling the watch, keeping me updated at every step of the way, and delivered an impeccably restored product that looked good as new. He saved all packaging for the vintage Omega parts, which he researched to ensure it was the same as what would've come with original watch, based on the reference number (extra points for asking whether or not I wanted him to polish it - I didn't want it polished). He did all of this work with an incredible turnaround time and a competitive price. Today, I came in because he fixed my wife's battery on her watch, and ended up bringing my grandfather's vintage IWC, which was having issues with a stiff crown not winding up. While another jeweler I brought it to in downtown Chicago earlier in the day didn't look deeply and just said it needed to be serviced, Boris doesn't take the easy way out. He put on his lens, cleaned some dust that was obstructing the crown, and made it work again. He then noticed that the gold bracelet was installed incorrectly over 60 years ago, making for an awkward time buckling the clasp (it was a European bracelet installed like an American one). On his own initiative, he dropped what he was doing to fix the watch so that I could have it ready for Rosh Hashanah, and I was out in 20 minutes. Other places likely would've given me a wait time of a few days, but he truly cares about his customers and doing right by them. Brought in an inexpensive Chinese-made watch that one of the applied numerals had fallen off of, and Boris had it back on (and the watch regulated) in only a couple of hours. Fantastic skilled service. I have an automatic German Junkers watch, and I broke the crystal. It's an uncommon hessalite dome crystal, and not just any watch shop has them in stock or can do the repair. I emailed Junkers in Germany, who routed me to the Junkers USA reseller, who routed me to Boris at BMC Timeworks. I emailed Boris and he got back to me quickly with an address to send the watch. I was in no rush but he was communicative about the receipt of the watch and the timeline. Most importantly he repaired the watch crystal perfectly and it looks like new, also tuned the mechanism up (it was losing around 20 seconds a day) such that it keeps perfect time for weeks on end. Better than I expected and better than it ran when new! It feels like he doesn't do many mail order repairs, and I'm not sure exactly how he ended up the service center of choice for Junkers USA, but I don't doubt their judgement after my experience. Best Clock Repair and Service in ... Indianapolis. I found a clock case which had the movement removed, but but was in perfect condition; and I wanted to restore the clock and put in new a mechanical movement. I was able to get the correct works from Hermle, but for some reason no one in Indianapolis would do the work for me. They would have the clock and movement for months and do nothing. One even told me, "If I were you, I would just put in a battery movement." Well, he is not me. After years of trying in Indianapolis, I decided to look outside outside of Indianapolis, and found Boris and BMC in Skokie. He quoted me using pictures via e-mail and gave me a two week completion time, He came in with the stated estimate (+ $27 for parts) and it was done in 2 days. Every time that clock chimes I am so grateful Boris finally ended this ridiculous ordeal for me. Needless to say, I will drive to Chicago and to BMC for any future clock needs - not even looking in Indy. read more

I usually change my watches' batteries myself but had one with a stuck caseback that I could not get open. Boris was able to get it open and change the battery and fix the case for me so the same problem wouldn't happen in the future. Reliable, efficient and cost effective watch repait.

This repair shop has an antiquated feel like a classic old Rolex or a Skagen. Boris is a fantastic being, he knows all thing watches. I went to get my battery changed on my watch and Boris tested it for its waterproof capabilities and changed both the battery and the gasket. While it may not be cheapest battery replacement, I left with a feeling of certainty that the job was done right and I was speaking with someone who cares about customer service and loves working on watches. I went to this shop because my watch had stopped running. I paid for a new watch battery and crystal replacement. $68 and 10 days later, the watch is still not running. To compound the poor workmanship, I was treated to the owner's objectionable views on racial justice. Both times I visited the shop, he spoke to me for 30 min about his views: Was I aware that George Floyd had a criminal record? (as if that justified killing him) Did I know that his family buried him in a gold casket? Did I think that was appropriate? (Yes, I did) Was I aware that many police officers have difficult jobs and sometimes they act on instinct? (If that instinct involves killing unarmed suspects, then they shouldn't be police officers). I tried to have a discussion with him, but he wasn't interested in a dialogue. I am writing off my $68, because I never want to have another interaction with this guy again. I suggest you do the same. read more
