Rapha is fantastic. The coffee is always perfectly made, they have Four Barrel coffee beans for sale (!), and the ever-expanding assortment of tasty snacks from local bakeries is impressive. I go 4+ times per week, and have the same consistent (lovely) experience every time. I also love their apparel. While it's definitely a bit more expensive than my other cycling gear, the quality and design is far superior so I think it's worth it! read more

My coffee was really really terrible. It tasted burned and even had a film of residue from the bottom of the pot. My wife also had terrible coffee. We threw them both away and bought coffee up the street. The guy also rocked the tip jar in my face which made me want to punch him in the throat. We paid with a credit card so I don't know why he'd think we had cash and it'd a b s move to rock the tip jar anyway. Pathetic. read more

Such an awesome store for high end cycling apparel. Only wish I brought enough money since I went during a vacation to SF. I love how they sell pastries and people can just sit and chill. I also love their bike stand, quite different and unique. Also, the staff was really nice, especially this one girl that works there, i forget her name, but she was totally awesome and helped us (tourists) find better routes around the city so that we wouldn't kill our legs going up those crazy SF hills on our single speed bikes. read more

I stopped by during lunch to grab an iced latte. Unfortunately their ice machine was out of commission, but to make for it the barista offered to make me a normal latte on the house. He definitely didn't have to, but I think this level of customer service is great. He loves his craft (beautiful latte art and delicious) and appreciates the customers. Best coffee in cow hollow & the marina. Love the little parklette out front -- easy place to go hang out. For colder days, there's a nice little upstairs too. I'm not a cyclist but I never feel weird in there surrounded by all the cycling folks, everyone just does their own thing. Let's just say my weekends in the Marina are made sweeter and more manageable by Caesar and Tessa. I work at Blo on Union Street, and it is nearly impossible to get through my back to back blowouts without the help from these java gurus. Whether its my standard soy capp (with two lumps of brown sugar, no more no less, stirred not shaken) to a gibralter or merckyx (obviously spelling these insanely wrong) everything is the perfect temperature and dances sweetly on my taste buds. They certainly got it down when it comes to quality but the whole idea of a club makes me kind of wonder if they are kind of elitist. I am new to SF and I can't help but notice that the bikers own the road. They are the most smug group of entitled people I have ever seen. I spent some time in NYC and they would eat these guys alive, aiming toward bikers and sending them to the hospital/morgue is like an olympic event there. Now, I ride a bike, a Raligh which is kind of elitist I admit as it is made in the UK, but I would never ride like these people, almost daring the cars to hit or bump them, anyway, I'm supposed to be reviewing the shop, they're a great bunch of guys/gals and i can't say anything bad about them, so I guess I'll give them a 4, watch your 6! read more

I've been coming to Rapha frequently for over a year now, and wanted to share my thoughts about the great experiences I've had. Other Rapha reviewers focus their reviews on a few different aspects of the store, so in the hopes of helping others, I'll break mine into a few areas: Coffee Shop--This is an easy one. Rapha has the best coffee in the neighborhood. It seems like most others agree on this, so I won't spend much time on it. The only criticism I've ever heard is that they don't have tons of variety (no orange mocha frappuccinos here), but neither does Blue Bottle. If you want that kind of stuff, Starbucks is a few blocks away. If you're looking for a high-quality cappuccino, espresso, or french press, this place nails it. Bike Apparel--Yes, it's more expensive than some brands. If you're comparing purely based on price, they don't win. BUT, I've purchased both casual apparel and riding kit here, and have always found it to be top-notch. There are great details that you don't see in other brands, a timeless factor that helps you feel like your jersey isn't going to look out of place in 2 years, and a durability that I don't see in most other brands. They also have a lifetime guarantee on their Classics apparel in case anything ever does happen. Again, if price is your driving factor then this place is not for you. If you want something that is unique but not garish, comfortable and durable--I recommend them over others. Bike Rides--I've gone on a few, and they're probably my favorite in the area. The pace is quick, but the rides are no-drop. The other riders are friendly, and welcome you in even if you're new (and in my case, can't always keep up on Hawk Hill). And Thursday night rides end at a beer garden--what more can you want. Customer Service--This is the one that seems to get the most attention in Yelp reviews. I don't totally discredit other reviewers if they've had a bad experience. My belief, though, is that the confusion stems from misplaced expectations. Rapha employees are great, but they're not Applebee's servers with 20 pieces of flare and a constant huge smile pasted to their face. They may be somewhat less outgoing, but they're very helpful when you need them. The shop is meant to be the kind of place where you can browse, watch a race, look at the books, read a magazine, have a coffee, and buy something if you want to. So, I like that you have some space when you go in. That said, the store is always well-staffed and I've never had a problem getting assistance when I want to try something on, need a different size, or am returning something. If you want a place where 15 people are going to ask you if you need help, you may not like their style of service. If you're more comfortable with a place that is a little less in-your-face but still there if you need them, you'll appreciate Rapha. I hope this review helps others. While I understand that the Rapha approach isn't for everyone, I think the employees are very helpful, the coffee is great, and the store is a nice place to join a ride, have a coffee, or get some great cycling gear. read more

Bikes and coffee? Yes, please! What a great concept. Definitely worth checking out, whether on feet or on wheels. Be warned that this place is rather intense, but they won't judge you if you show up in jeans, Huffy in tow. They've got these posters on the walls of bloodied cyclists and intense quotations about suffering. I dream to one day afford the awesome looking gear here and, well, bike enough to warrant their purchase. A distinctive SF combination. read more

Ok, I broke up with Rapha's coffee & gear for a while after they switched from Four Barrel to Intelligentsia, but Charlie and the whole team were so great about hearing customer feedback and ultimately moving back toward a local, quality beam that I'm back to being a big fan. From 5 stars to 1 star and back: it's great to have this institution back in my coffee rotation. The whole Rapha team at this store is amazing: super friendly and empowered to make a change that local customers asked for. Pretty cool stuff. read more

A part of every visit up North now. Staff is very approachable and friendly. My 12 year old son and 8 year old daughter love cycling and the staff goes out of their way to talk with them, encourage them, and share a bit of bike history with them. Five stars ain't for the ambience. It's a spare bicycle supply store and I, as a casual cyclist only, was immune to that charm. The latte, however, was delightful. Probably if you are a cyclist of any note this place would earn five billionty stars instead. read more

The Rapha Club experience is really something. The Club's in a swanky part of the city near Fisherman's Wharf with a lot of bike access. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the art gallery feeling. The workers have soul patches and good hair, stylish yet functional and practical under a helmet or cycling cap. The female associates are much the same but without the soul patch. There's a big center table where everyone dressed in Rapha or Capo can sit for some java or a snack family style. Rapha riders apparently are tolerant as they let the Pearl Izumi riders sit and join in the conversation as well. There are some city biker couples in for some casual snuggling over their iPad and java. The talk is all about the rides and there's shaved and hairy legs and the women are generally cute, cute, cute but I'm sure could drop me many times on any ride. They have that good windburned healthy skin glow. The latte was excellent and the barista spilled the designer foam over the side a little. I couldn't take my eyes off her so I didn't notice until I sat at the table. I didn't go back to complain... I only sneaked peaks at her washing the dishes. The big table has glass with gorgeous pictures of everything mythical and romantic about cycling underneath and I'm convinced they do brand like no other brand in cycling. The clothing is truly beautiful and they have what looks like one of everything they offer almost secondary to the gallery art and customer bikes all lined up inside by our table. I was intimidated/turned off at first but these people are normal people just like me (but wealthier and probably better recovery ability after hill sprints). The book section shows gorgeous books again in tasteful amounts like a Thomas Keller meal at The French Laundry. The 70's era Holdsworth on the wall is something to behold and it hangs over the satire to the gallery. I'll reflect on more after I go to the bathroom. I'm sure I'll feel a richer voiding-of-my-bladder experience than usual. Back now... The bathroom was quaint and it made me want to pee over the top of my waistband as the Badger would have before the start of the Tourmalet. read more

Sad to say that I was disappointed in this store! First time in the store and probably my last! I have at least 10 pieces of Ralpha clothing that I've ordered through the website and will probably continue. Love the product, BUT hated the customer service at the SF Store! I asked about their club, the rides AND the coffee... and no bites, no information and no help! The guys were nice with getting 2 different sizes for me. The girl behind the coffee counter was a complete snot! With this type of service... they themselves will probably be out of a job soon when the doors close. Advise... get a better attitude, try to be more helpful and smile. All of it will go a long way! read more

Rapha makes the best bike cloths in the industry....unfortunately the customer is not even considered a customer by it's San Francisco employees. The word "rude" is an understatement...they are flat out terrible at customer service and sales. It is a shame that Simon Mottram (Rapha CEO) who is all about the customer does not have a clue his SF store is destroying the Rapha brand reputation. As an avid biker I will change brands as will many others in SF! I hope some day that staff can figure out that the customer pays their salaries! read more

Without a Blue Bottle, Ritual, etc. in the neighborhood, these guys probably serve the best cappuccino in the Marina - if you can accept the $4 cost and tolerate the distant, depressed staff. The nice outdoor seating means you don't have to deal with them for long though. read more

So lucky to have Rapha in SF! I go here once a year when they have their winter and archive sale (past week). The clothing staff are super helpful, always running down to find the right size for you. The customers are mostly trendy cyclists, eyes wide and glued to the sparsely stocked jersey racks and bright socks. There's clothing service at 7am, but oftentimes the employees have meetings or aren't visible so early. For non-cyclists, they have city wear clothes and accessories now for men and women which are pretty expensive, but 100% merino wool and unique. The cafe is fairly priced (no extra for almond milk, and drip coffee for 2.5), but it can be pretty slow with only 1 barista/cafe manager. They serve granola with milk in a cute bowl, and their pastries are better than average (not like Neighbor bakehouse, but way better than starbucks). It's a nice "pop in and browse your laptop and sip coffee" type of spot. read more
