Deplorable people. They think nothing of systematically gouging or outright pricing out every tenant, every year. Despite numerous maintenance issues, a laundry room that's almost always defunct, violations of the RLTO's access rules, illegal utility billing fees, ignored maintenance requests, nonstop lies and deferments, oh, and not having been able to get paper mail for months because their striker is broken, they tried to raise my rent 10% after my first year. No negotiation. My 12-resident WhatsApp chat is nothing but torrents of frustrations and complaints about Rany's despicable behavior. Notice that the positive reviews here and on Google usually focus on the leasing agent, or are over 2 years old. Rany bribes new residents with a $20 rent credit to write positive reviews. These people have no sense of responsibility toward their residents or the communities they profit from. Everything is about gouging as much money as possible out of tenants and doing as little as possible. Avoid avoid avoid. read more

Somehow the review on google went mysteriously missing? They still have not addressed the rat issue (rats running wild in the courtyard) and all the dryers are still broken. Original review: I was visiting my cousin, and he unfortunately and recently moved to the 4828H W Addison St apartments. I left towards the end of the day. When I got into the interior hallway, I was surrounded by several large rats (about the size of cats) and they looked like they were going to attack me. I freaked out and slipped down the whole flight of stairs, slightly injuring my leg. I asked him about this, and he said that the door to the outside has been broken since he moved in and that he has been trying to contact the management regarding the issue. However, when he calls, the phone rings a few times and then disconnects. Go on try calling yourself, you'll see that you can't speak to anyone. He also mentioned that all the dryers are completely broken and don't work, and they promised to fix them many times but never did (he literally is forced to hang clothes out like it's an 1800's Amish building) the hell is going on here. It's impossible to get in touch with anyone, and you can't submit a written demand for repairs. This is also probably a huge fire hazard, as I suspect the dryers are completely clogged with lint internally. In this building, the pipes also make a weird, LOUD, echoing clank/thud noise randomly every 5-15 minutes. It's extremely loud for no reason, like it's a production factory. I can't imagine how hard it would be to sleep in this place, let alone be sane living in it. This entire building should be completely condemned by the city, in my honest opinion, and every time I pull up to this building someone is moving out with a moving truck (wonder why). I decided the only way to get their attention was by posting this review on Google. I will take photos soon and post them too. It also smells like rat pee everywhere and you can see poo all over the hallway we will forward this to his alderman and photos. Legally speaking, they are obligated to address the rat issue within 14 days, but you can't contact them. Maybe they think they can skirt the issue by never answering the phone. Rany made for an incredibly frustrating leasing and move-in experience. Their contracted leasing agent lied and said there would be a washer & dryer installed in-unit before we moved in, because we said that was a priority. We only found out that wasn't the case after we had already signed the lease, and when we brought this to Rany's attention, they all but shrugged. "Oh it's not our fault, we don't handle the listing, that's the contractor, they shouldn't have told you that, don't be mad at us, nothing we can do, you can just buy a washer and dryer," etc. Sure, it may not have been their fault, but the misrepresentation was made by their contracted agent on their behalf, and they benefited from it (we wouldn't have signed the lease at all). A more decent company would have at least made a half-hearted attempt to make it up to us somehow. Their contracted leasing agency also failed to properly coordinate delivering our first month's rent to Rany, and once again, Rany was entirely hands-off, with a huge "not our problem" attitude. It should not be necessary for an incoming tenant to be an intermediary communication between a leasing agency and a management company. Again, I'm willing to believe that Rany wasn't the direct cause of this problem, but they refused to be a proactive part of the solution, being entirely willing to let their contracted agents screw us over on their behalf. I am not looking forward to getting issues addressed now that we're moved in. Ultimately, I recommend avoiding Rany Management if possible. read more

My apartment rained for three days. The property manager came on the second day, made a hole in the ceiling to drain the water, sure, fine. Put a vent over the hole? It starts raining again inside, property manager is unreachable. All help is unreachable by phone. My girlfriend had to drive to the Rany Management building to physically summon help for our actively flooding apartment. Also the washers and dryers still aren't fixed. read more

Maribel Villa is an obvious racist and I'm shocked she hasn't been sued. There is no way they have ANYONE rating 5 stars with no complaints. This is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with on so many levels. Maintenance? I won't even call them out anymore because it's ALWAYS worse than before I called so I just do the work myself. Paying rent? There's fees for paying and you can't pay in personal checks or cash, only on their website that's always crashing. Then another late fee. Then try to pay rent and argue about a late fee? No, you have to pay in full. Whatever number they decide you owe them otherwise another late fee. Not a business I would ever recommend. Buildings are falling apart under their management. Renters are all low disgruntled and understandably so. I get to know my neighbors well and not one is happy with RANY which is too bad since they tend to show well up front. read more

Hello everyone, I live at the Polo Tower at 4180 N Marine Drive. I love it so far. The maintenance has been fast and thorough! They also did a great job. The laundry room is great and never too crowded. I also have a six month membership to gym which was a low fee and is the building and easy to get to. The biggest spot is the building manager Meghan! She is friendly and helpful and is always letting the residents know what is going on whether it is her newsletters or emails! I also love the view from my place!! read more

Bills bills bills....they really do nickel and dime you. A $1600 a month apartment turns into almost $1800 a month apartment after everything they charge you for (including monthly pet rent). The maintenance has been responsive. There are only four washing machines so I wish they'd be more diligent about fixing them when they break down. One machine was down for over a month. The apartments are old and outdated for what they charge monthly. The hallway stinks (could use a shampoo). I suspect the carpets in the halls have never been shampooed. Pigeon poop all over the back stairs and they are not powerwashed regularly. With bird flu etc going around, it always makes me nervous to use the back stairs. I avoid them as much as possible. I have never had an issue with Rany's staff as far as communicating goes. However, I haven't had a reason to talk to them about anything, to be honest. I pay my rent etc and look for other places to live in the meantime. I don't see myself staying here another year. I can't afford Rany Management's fees. read more

This place is a dump. The building is so dirty, the outside is disgustingly dirty it is an eyesore amongst other buildings. I have been here 24 years and enough is enough, they are clueless how to run or keep a building clean. We now have cockroaches and that was the last draw for me. If you see the images with the white concrete walls and black floor that is the trash room the walls need to be cleaned that is garbage that smells on the walls, the white substance you see on the floor is food for the cockroaches to eat so it will kill them. The dark spots on the hallway rug are urine from dogs. They just put an Airwick in the hallways, that does not do anything you need to have the rugs professionally cleaned. Look inside the elevators rusty and absolutely dirty. They have a cleaning crew that comes once a week, most places have windows cleaned daily, the floors swept daily not in this place. The outside grass had beer bottles, sole cups, paper plates that disintegrated because they were there so long. I asked them over and over to hire a high school kid and let him/her pick up all the garbage. They have absolutely no pride in themselves which shows in the way the building is kept one of the managers is a director......if I was going to hire someone, I would look at the building they managed, that is their resume and this director would receive an F she and all of them are clueless how to run a building. EVERY year the front doors break when it gets windy, this is a continual problem. The elevators were closed by the City of Chicago and they "temporarily" fixed them very unsafe. This week the fire department was here a someone, lady was stuck in the elevator. Again, the last straw for me was cockroaches. You can see my someone, apartment window the apartment next to me has a towel outside it has been there for months, I sent an email to the manager asking her to please talk to that tenant, it is still there ignored by them. I was ALWAYS asked by management if they could show my apartment to when the bank came or the insurance company came as my apartment is always immaculate. Look at the mailroom there are two pictures one of it all in order and the other with packages all over the place even outside in the lobby and other parts of the building. I on my own would situate the mail every day. I live here I wanted the building in order, I took pride in it. Even the simple things look at the sign that says "no dogs allowed" it was sideways, I put it straight up as it should be, is it really that difficult? I would tell them pick up all the cigarette buts in front of our building by the doors, sidewalk.... ignored, pull the weeds.....ignored. I was NEVER, EVER late with my rent not once always paid on time, treated this building like my own, but again the last straw was major cockroaches. They have a roof top; however, they do not even advertise it anymore the city closed it down about 10 years ago as it was not safe and they never fixed it. You might ask, me why were you here for 24 if you were so unhappy. The first 12 years they had REAL managers that kept the building clean. I have a house out of state and travel extensively for work, so I was not here all the time and just thought it would get better and again the cockroaches did it for me. My rent was fair 1175.00, not it is raised to 1500.00 for a new tenant, however you can find much more nicer buildings for the same or a bit more that are cleaner and you would be proud to bring people over to your home. The other week I was on the bus talking to someone we were talking about where we live, she thought I lived at 4170 N Marine (that building is PRISTINE, always cleaning the windows, grass is green, flowers) and she said too bad you have to look at that eyesore soar next to it. I was too embarrassed to correct her and say no the eyesore is where I live :( I liked the managers as a person always brought them cheesecake from downtown, holiday gifts, they were just not fit to be building managers. read more

I look forward to continued efforts to revamp the property inside and out from landscaping, cleaning, pest control, portal management and updating apartments. I've lived at Rany's building in the Ravenswood neighborhood for a little under a year now. We've had a very good experience with our apartment and the management. They are very responsive to maintenance requests and expedite any that are more urgent. When our microwave stopped working, David Beach dropped off a temporary replacement while our new microwave was being ordered, which we appreciated. Laundry is free and there are plenty of machines usually available for use. I would recommend Rany to everyone. read more

I've lived here for a bit over a year so far. Consistent maintenance would be the biggest thing for me. Some washers going out, heat not working properly. Elevators smell like smoke sometimes. Extremely poor communication and what seems like no effort on behalf of the property manager's side to find solutions for these growing issues. The previous assistant property manager attempted to make this building better which was great. I guess she was met with the reality of the destructive condition the building was in and unfortunately ended up leaving. Here you only pay for location. However, the newest management assistant in the building has made some drastic changes in the right direction. Whenever the heat has gone out she has communicated with the building instantly, and has let maintenance know immediately and seems as if any issues are resolved the same day. I appreciate the level of communication she has with the residents here from packages being left in the mailroom, to when the freight elevator is reserved. The elevators smell great with the little air fresheners in there. There was also a recent paint job done in the back door area. It looks amazing and feels more vibrant. Update: After complaining with Rany Management about my experience, I was directed to their independent contractor leasing agent, Svetlana, who did show me the apartment and helped me apply for and get approved for it, I just signed the lease today and am very happy. If it hadn't been for her I would have lost my chance at this great-looking apartment so thankyou Svetlana! With her permission, I am giving her phone number for anyone interested in viewing Rany's apartments. I highly recommend going through her, you cannot reach her through the Rany website or by calling Rany (you'll only get their in-house leasing agent). Her number is 312-868-1555. read more

I don't know anything about the Chase Cafe, but "slumlord" is fair. I lived in their building at 1154 W Lunt for three years and I was so happy to leave that I signed a lease at a new apartment a month early and paid double rent that month. Three main complaints: 1. Cockroaches. The last 9 months, there was a terrible--and I mean TERRIBLE--infestation. I complained several times, but all they did was come out and spray twice. Twice in that many months. The roach population was so imbedded that the spray didn't even faze them. Rany needed to enlist a hardcore extermination service but they did not. Even today it makes me sick in my stomach to remember what it was like. 2. Noisy neighbor. The guy who rented the shop space underneath my unit played loud music a lot. I would ask him to turn it down, but he was never accommodating and sometimes downright threatening. There was an outdoor common area leading to the back walkway, and he would have late-night parties out there several times per week. This was directly beneath my bedroom window; I mean, these people and their stereo speakers were literally eight feet away from my bed and my unable-to-sleep person. One time they had a drum circle which went on past 3 am; that time I gave up and called the 5-0. I complained several times to Rany but they did nothing. 3. Facilities. These were not the nicest apartments but the common areas were pretty run-down. Maintenance was not their strong suit either. I recall waiting days for some responses, plus several times that they had to turn off the whole building's water. Worse was the spring rainstorm which partially collapsed my bedroom and bathroom ceilings. They patched up the ceilings, but for the balance of my tenancy there were many rainstorms when I would see water begin to seep through the ceiling and run down the walls. Oh also, once my laundry was stolen out of the dryer. I was quite fond of that Oxford University t-shirt...:( Rent was a fair price for the unit size and location of the building, but not for the poor management and quality of facilities. Good riddance to these jokers. read more

I've lived in my building for almost 2 years - when I first moved in, management was difficult to get ahold of, and building maintenance was not top priority, but that has significantly changed in the last 6 months. I can tell that they are making concerted efforts to improve the building and management. A few weeks ago, I was locked out of the building at 11 pm, and maintenance was able to help me inside within 20 minutes of making a call. I appreciate the effort and initiative they've taken to make my building a more pleasant place to live. read more
