We would like to share this so anyone interested can make an informed decision. We do not intend to harm any reputations.
Nancy, our landlord, essentially forced us to have to terminate our lease 18 days into our lease at 1858 W. Cullerton St #2 (August 31st, 2026 move out) because there is a rodent problem that she refuses to fully address or acknowledge as true for us. We have to exercise our tenant rights. She called me out of my name twice -- "weird" and "insane" after I told her there were mice droppings in the pantry, I didn't want the maintenance guy handling them with his hands (yes he attempted) to protect him from disease, and she had an exterminator come and do absolutely nothing. She also projects her emotions onto others -- she stated "we're not your maids" when I asked her to have the exterminator, NOT maintenance, clean the mice droppings after she said explicitly stated she'd have the exterminator clean them. Plus, if the cleaning crew that came in on 8/1 at 6am didn't clean rodent droppings....that's not my fault that I want them cleaned by a professional who handles that kind of stuff. I just got here. I don't want to do that. I shouldn't be doing that. I shouldn't be disrespected for not wanting to do that. She also said the exterminator would close all entry points - interior and exterior, but all entry points were left untouched, including actual holes in the floor. All they did was lay out 2 sticky traps. When I told her she had 14 days to correct the issue or I'd be out, she told me I couldn't leave because I signed a lease. I had to refer to the law for her to agree. She kept saying "the previous tenants didn't have any issues" .....so you never got a maintenance request before in this unit? So the place is perfect? Don't be so arrogant. The previous tenants left after 8 months anyway -- just look at the Zillow listing dates. I've called 311 - she is in code violation -- material noncompliance. Otherwise, our lease should've ended 8/31/27. If you don't want to live with mosquitoes, house centipedes, spiders, and/or mice, or have a landlord call you out of your name and attempt to gaslight you, don't rent this unit. Apparently she couldn't even believe she had pests.... there are bugs EVERYWHERE. I even got bit in my sleep 14+ times and told her. Save the lies for the next person!
The upstairs attic is HOT in the summer, to the point where she actually ordered us a window AC unit on 8/17/26, but before it was delivered she had the audacity to say on 8/18/26 that maintenance told her it was freezing when they came into the unit to make repairs....... an attic doesn't freeze in the summer. It's been 75-85+ degrees outside. Physics won't allow. Heat rises. I'm not sure how maintenance formed that opinion, nor am I sure on how she accepted the information as accurate.
She also says "I love a paper trail" very often as if she's familiar with, and enjoys, disputes.
The "repairs" they were making ceased to continue because I said I'd be moving out...as if I paid $2,999 (August rent) just to be neglected.
My previous home -- I spent 4 years there. No issues ever. My sister and I have a 750+ credit score, make over FOUR x the income, and her exact words on 8/18/26 through text were "& we will go to court for judgement for non-payment & it'll be on both credit reports"..... It's not even September yet and we paid August rent when we signed the lease in June.......
She kept asking us to send pictures for proof after we'd already sent pictures in more than once, too. Well, I've attached the pictures for everyone to see since she is unaware of her receipt of them every time they are sent directly to her!
Oh, and the yard and mailbox floods when it rains. read more
