I am so proud to say that I passed my road test on the first try today. I had both Randy (5 lessons) & Ryan (final 3 lessons) I learned a lot from both instructors but there was something special about Ryan!!! Wow it was really really awesome training with these guys, I learned a lot in all of my lessons and I can't thank them enough. Listen too these guys if you decide too use them, don't sweat it if the trainer you liked isn't the trainer who shows up too train you. Everyone of these guys has something to offer so the more advice you get from different trainers the better. I came to this driving school because of the convenient location(downstairs from the A train) and I have a few friends that took lessons and 5 hour class here. The "5 hour" pre license course was good and easy to sign up for. After my 5 hour class I informed them that I need very early road test date because I recently purchased my first car . I took a few lessons here before my road test since I was using their car for the test. I had two driving instructors but I only remember the name of one, Josh. They were both very informative, taught me what'll be on the road test and how to perfectly parallel park in a few seconds. Josh drove me to the testing site the morning of my road test and we arrived early and I was the first person to take the test and I PASSED. After the road test he drove me back to the driving school and I was on my way! They're very good at what they do and the staff is very kind. I definitely recommend RANKS and thanks for helping me reach another huge milestone. read more

Update: so I get this message in my inbox from Ralph (the sensible owner at this establishment), so for his sake I'll be as cordial as possible in my updated review. Upon renewing my permit a while ago. I asked the worker at the DMV, "is it legal for a driving school to allow someone to complete lessons with an expired permit?" to which I was emphatically told NO. The day I walked into this establishment my permit had already been expired for over a year. I only dropped by to pick up a booklet to refresh my memory on the test that I had to take to renew it. Samantha said, well why don't you sign up for classes now, urging me to take advantage of their 10 lesson package. I said my permit is not valid, I need to renew first, to which she said, "oh, no no no, you only need a valid permit to take the road test, you can take your lessons with an expired permit." I was cautious, but she said "we do this all the time, just make sure to renew it before your road test"... With that being said, I handed over my credit card to pay for the classes and my well over 1 year expired permit, she made copies of my permit and worked up my bill, then handed me a copy of my receipt. I left the establishment with a driving lesson for that weekend. Over the next few weeks I took several lessons with my expired permit. Unbeknownst to me I thought, hey, they are professionals (I use that term very very lightly now that I know how they operate) they must be right. They already knew my permit was expired, yet they still decided to break the law and allow me to take road lessons? Now, is this the kind of place you want your children to go to? Is the the kind of place YOU want to go to? A place full of liars, who have instructors that tell you to floor the gas pedal on crossbay blvd to get over your fear of driving? A place where their reviews are fabricated? Look at each and every review (some that have been removed, or are hidden from yelp) and you will see each review was written the same day or maybe a day apart from each other with no other reviews, tips, check-ins or yelp usage at all. Sounds fishy to me. To miss Irene, I am happy that you had a great experience, the dog I mentioned may not be there now because they moved their location a few blocks down. So Ralph, when you say "we could not continue on without a valid permit" you should instead say, I should've never been so money hungry to sign someone up for classes without a valid permit. So yes, my stance still stays the same. I vehemently do not recommend this place to anyone, and my rating remains the same. read more

I'm always fair in my reviews even when I am annoyed so I will start with the good. Ralph is a good instructor, I liked him... the problem is you more than likely WON'T ever get him as an instructor as he is mostly busy and unavailable. I was only able to get him once unfortunately. Josh is polite. I won't detail all the things I absolutely hated about this place for the sake of the fact that I did like Ralph after I finally met him the day before my test and he is the owner. Overall, I wish I could get my money back. So glad it's over! I immediately went to a new driving school and it's a HUGE DIFFERENCE. At my new driving school The staff is organized, the customer service is amazing, and the instruction is very clear. I don't feel nervous or like anyone is talking down to me during the instruction. Alrighty. To start off, this is my actual experience with the school and It is not in any way "fabricated." I originally decided to go to Khan's driving school. I got a few recommendations from family, but he was out of town and when I called in his son picked up. I decided to just go with his son's school instead and he gives me a date on the 5-hour course over the phone. I came home that day and decided to look up the reviews on this school. The majority of them seemed good and they were enough for me to give them a shot. Unlike Simone's comment from 2013 (sorry about your bad experience with them Simone, and my review is not a fabricated one despite this being my first review. Actually, I had to write up a review about my experience after seeing yours) my experience with Ranks was good. The office was maybe a little small, but the back room was not how it was described in one the comments here. It was neat and everything looked organized, no animal stench or nothing of that sort. It was perfectly fine. The 5-hour course went well. Ralph was good at getting the idea across and knew what he was talking about. Also as I came to find out later, he's a pretty cool instructor. Before leaving that day, I had them set up a couple of appointments for lessons. A week or so after I asked them to set up an appointment for me for a road test, which they let me know the date of the following day. From here on pretty much everything went smoothly... I went on one or two lessons before I had to take the road test, and on the day I took their car over there and took the test. The morning of the test, one of the instructors came to pick me up. He was cool. He went over how the test works with me (how long it is, how the location is, what I should try to do well and what I should try to avoid, etc.). Everything so far was going just as I expected it to, if not better. Despite everything, I failed the test that day because some of my old driving habits got in the way (or it was just bad judgement). I was supposed to be writing up a review about this school at that point, but I knew I was going back for more lessons. A month later, I call them back up and have them set up another road test for me and two more lessons. Ralph worked with me to point out my weaknesses and overcome them. He wasn't ever rude or impatient (maybe one of the reasons I stuck with this school). Second time around, the road test felt easy and I passed with 5 points. Overall, I had an easy and smooth experience with this school. Felicia and Samantha were really nice and courteous every time I talked to them over the phone or in person Ralph was also a great guy. I rate this school 4.5/5 stars, but since I can't do that I'm giving them a 4/5. read more

I would say It was a worst experience for me. I went for a package with 4 lessons. I scheduled my last lesson on the test day. On first 3 lessons, I was doing great. But all of a sudden, on the day of test, Ralph came to give lesson and tells I wont be able to pass the test. Trying to get more lessons to make more money. Also, on day of the test, I ended up giving my driving test on different car , not the car I was taking lessons on. So, it was a worst experience for me and the day was horrible. read more

I never drove before, had no clue how to even start a car. Did my research, asked around and heard nothing but the best things about Ranks. So I booked 8 lessons & I couldn't be anymore happier I did! By the 3rd one I knew all the basics - parallel parking, broken u-turn, left/right turns. The instructors Ralph and Josh were extremely patient, personable and they perfect your weaknesses, which I loved about them the most. They want to see you pass, and actually teach you how to drive the right way unlike other driving schools my friends have been too and I have heard about! Felicia the receptionist at Ranks is so sweet and always keeps on top of the appointments by calling a day ahead. Which is a plus! I had a great experience with this Driving School which such a relief for me being I was coming from another Driving School where I had such a horrible experience and had aid a ton of money. I originally paid for a Package from Ferrari Driving School because they came up as "the Best Driving School' which was not true. They are very expensive, over rated & unprofessional. Almost everyone that works in their office is Rude they have horrible customer service. It was such a relief to find a driving school that wasn't trying to rob me & just force me to take lesson I didn't need. My instructor was Josh he was very Firm and Laid Back. I learned a lot from him & he helped me a lot with my confidence when it came to driving. He is a very knowledgeable and extremely patient instructor. Ranks Driving School is the best school around I have been to many other driving schools and this one was very far the best . Other schools I went to either i did not pass or they bailed out on me before my road test. I took the 8 lesson package. Samantha was wonderful and very happy and helpful and my instructor Josh was outstanding and one of the nicest an helpful person i have ever met. I passed on my first try with this school unlike previous schools. I also have recommended them to my family and friends and they passed too.
