Worse, when our vehicle was given back to us with the assurance that the problem had been fixed and that the vehicle had been test-driven to make sure of it, we immediately realized we had been lied to twice: the problem wasn't fixed, and had the mechanic actually driven it, he would have discovered that himself. As an aside, it took me no less than four calls and an email to get a hold of them. Needless to say, we will never again use their services, and will caution others to avoid them. Meanwhile, a different, HONEST mechanic had our vehicle for less than two hours when they made the correct diagnosis: blown head gasket and cracked engine block. Unless you enjoy being lied to and ripped off, do not take your vehicle to Alex Gerz Radiator.

Knowing that most places will do this for free if they could keep the R-12 they sucked out, I called to confirm this. This was the first place listed in the phone book for this type of service. After speaking with the owner over the phone and confirming that this service was indeed free, I headed to their place of business. Which of course was able to see me right away (no other customers). After watching them tear apart my car looking for my A/C piping, I politely pointed out the location of the outlets this "mechanic" was stumbling around looking for. He set up his vacuum which he ran for about ten minutes. After that he told me there was no R-12 in the car to begin with. After that I was handed a bill. I refused to pay the bill since the owner himself had told me the service was free. The mechanic refused to give me my car keys back. At this point I normally would have just avoided any further problems by paying the unwarranted bill, but something about that "mechanic" really ticked me off. I called the cops to report our dispute. To end this long story, I got my keys back without having to pay that bill, and the business owner was reprimanded for his bait and switch tactics. The cop told me I should never go back to this business for further service.

My only complaint is that they took off my out of state front vanity plate to pass inspection. That was not necessary, as I asked a State police man if that was an issue and he said no, because Pa does not have front license plate. So, I just put it back on. They had some staffing issues due to COVID-19, which screwed things up a bit because I had to take off of work twice for an inspection. That ticked me off a bit. The shop owner said he tried calling me, but I had no missed calls, so....? Oh well, they're right around the corner and convenient. Plus, you can go to Gilligan's for beer & food while your car is being worked on.

She kept apologizing and said it was a miscommunication, but bottom line is they had the car for a week and a half, never fixed anything, but somehow quoted $800 more for the repairs.
