I stumbled upon Randy's when I was on a hunt for some bomb donuts. I liked how convenient it was to just order online because I am just the absolute worst when it comes to ordering in person. I've been here two times and both times Randy's has failed to deliver. First time, I tried a few of their deluxe donuts with all the crazy toppings. Second time, I just went there last week during lunch time and tried their regular donuts like 'Glaze Twist' (I was traumatized by my last visit) and maybe thought getting the more simple donuts was a better bet and boy was I wrong. I have to preface my review with the fact that Randy's donuts are my favorite donuts in the world. For years now my family and I would drive the 40 minutes to Inglewood just to buy their donuts. I was there for the painted wooden menu boards and the absolutely terrible word art website they had before their marketing department did the most incredible rebranding and branching out. I know their donuts like the back of my hand. I got excited when I found they had a Pasadena location because I was already in the area and decided to buy my family a dozen for the week. They had all the same flavor selections but when I tried them I was kind of disappointed. The doughnuts weren't entirely fluffy like at the original location, our donuts were slightly undercooked in the center. And second, they use off brand cereal. The cinnamon toast crunch as a mix of good and bad cereal, some ridged and some without texture. My fruity pebbles, the true love of my life, were a mix of the good flat flaky fruity pebbles and some generic colored popped rice cereal. I usually wouldn't point this out at any small business donut shop down the street but given that they have to live up to a brand and the prices are all the same, I don't appreciate the cutting corners. Decided to treat myself to a Crondy. I was so disappointed when I took my first bite. Crondy's are my favorite at Randy's. This one was so greasy...I could feel the oil oozing inside my mouth. Instead of the light crispy exterior and soft interior..the Crondy tasted like it had been soaking in a bath of oil. To top it off the Crondy tasted like it had been fried in oil used a few too many times. As much as hubby enjoys donuts...even he said it tasted different and was not good! Alright, to the donuts! My favorite was the blueberry cake. As the flavor suggests, this donut style is an anomaly because it is a cake-y texture. All of the other donuts are very flakey or fluffy. The glaze is just enough and leaves a nice coat. My second favorite was the glazed raise. This is their original glazed donut. The donut is very very light and just a tad sweet. The other flavors I ordered were maple iced cake, cherry iced cake, powered sugar cake, glazed twist, roasted coconut raise, apple fritter, and the powdered sugar cake . If I were to go back, I'd definitely order more of the blueberry cake and glazed raise. This location also serves Jones coffee, which is another establishment in Pasadena. Service: Service is solid. I recommend deciding on what flavors to order before you get to the front, You'll get overwhelmed if you have no idea what to order. Ambiance: Enter through the backside and there was a line when we arrived down a long hallway. After ordering, exit out onto Lake Ave. storefront. Randy's Donuts is an L.A. institution. The original location opened up 60 years ago. It became so popular that they opened a few more shops on the Westside. I've heard people rave about how good the donuts are but there isn't a location near me so I had never tried one. I was very excited when I heard they were opening a store in Pasadena, which is on my side of town. When I saw that Randy's Donuts was part of Yelp's #LocaladventureChallenge it gave me another reason to find out for myself what the hype was about. The Pasadena shop has been open for 2 weeks, so when I got there at 7 am on a Saturday I didn't expect a line. Since I was here I was committed to the challenge. It was about a 30 min wait, which was understandable since they were only letting 3 people in at a time due to social distancing. They also provide touchless payment and have plexiglass between the staff and the customers. There is a wide assortment of donuts to choose from and they all looked delicious! Classics are $1.35 each, Deluxe are $1.60, Fancy are $1.85, and Premiums are $2.75. They also offer a various variety packs where you can get a mix of a dozen (like 6 classic + 6 fancy, etc. I chose one of those. The donuts are fresh! Very most, fluffy, and flavorful. I was impressed with how tasty they were. The Cookie Crisp was quite yummy. Deciding on which 12 to pick wasn't easy because they all looked so good. Best donuts I've ever had. The original glazed is always my go-to when trying a new place. It's usually the donut that shows if they make a solid donut or not. This one was HEAVENLY. Light and fluffy, like eating a sweet, round cloud. Simply delicious. There's no other way to describe it. They also serve Jones coffee here, which is a favorite of mine. Get a glazed original with a Jones latte. You won't regret it. Unfortunately, this location opened in the middle of lockdown. There is usually a line outside, but it's well worth it! They practice social distancing and encourage customers to do the same, but the line moves fairly quickly. The staff is kind and they work efficiently to serve everyone in a timely fashion. Nope. Sucked. Well ....sucked is hard with donuts, because even when they aren't that good they're still ok. But in the realm of donuts these are bottom of the barrel. The only worse donuts are the store bought ones. All gimmicks aside, the pure donuts are just average at best. I had a cinnamon roll and it was so meh - it was disappointing. Word of Randy's Donuts on Lake went like lighting and crowds were there for free donuts yesterday. The lines are shorter a day after, but still about 30 minutes from the back door. The store feels new, and the facilities are clean, with historical photos lining the hallway through the store, as well as providing some small talk while in line. Once at the first window, you can see the display of donuts, and start calculating which donuts to decide on. The favorites seem to be the blueberry and always jelly-filled for me, which costs a tad more than the normal donut. Try to park at the rear of the store where the lines form, and be sure to keep your distance, as 6' markers are strategically placed , while keeping us all aware of COVID-19. I actually didn't intend to have come here but dunkin donuts across the street was already close at 6pm. So I dropped by this place. Very narrow inside the store so they will probably make you wait outside around popular times (weekends or mornings). At Monday night, they still have alot of donuts. Alot to choose from. Tried sugar raised, chocolate twist, and matcha raised donuts. First 2 were about $1.60 per piece. Matcha was about $3.00 per piece. I personally don't enjoy the chewy and doughy texture their donuts have to offer. Taste wise, they are really just donuts. I think their special donuts (like matcha which didn't have too much matcha taste) was somewhat over priced. I got to try this place without having to wait in line but i can imagine the line can get super long when around popular times. I came here opening weekend and yes waited in a 30 minute line for donuts. Today was my second visit to this location at about 8:30 and I waited approximately 10 minutes. The location is nice with a front and back entrance. Today there was no issue finding parking in the shared lot behind but on the weekend it is difficult. If you don't mind walking you can park in the structure near the gym or Macy's. Customer service was nice, and I appreciated the employees making sure we were 6 ft apart in line and informing us to go orders would be able to be placed online soon. Pricing is $$ for donuts but this is due to the gourmet types they have. Really, a must check out. My favorite donut is the Bacon Maple Bar which is the right amount of sweet& salty. My friends enjoyed the Matcha donuts, and others as well. One of our party commented that the regular maple bars have too much maple and for the price she would not return. I got half a dozen donuts and a coffee for $20. So, yes much more than the average donut shop. However, this is expected for specialty donuts. Grand opening today in Pasadena. Finally the wait is over and we who live in San Gabriel Valley can now enjoy Randy's Donuts just like the rest of LA. This is an institution in LA since 1962. But the wait is worth it. Right next to Mendocino Farm Sandwich shop on Lake Ave., Randy's Donut officially opened its door for business. The line was long. We waited almost an hour to just get into the shop. It took another 15 minutes before we can order. With all the yummy flavors and varieties, we got two dozens for our friends and family. The most popular ones seem to be the cinnamon Crumb Cake, glaze Crondy and apple fritter as well as the simple raise glaze donut. Right now, there is $2 off for very dozen of donut purchase. Once got into the car, we can't wait to try out their free glaze donuts. The donuts were soft and fluffy. The glaze added the specifically taste with the sugar. My wife tried their apple fritter donut. She said the taste is heavenly with real apple mixed with donut dough. I had never tried Randy's before and when I saw that they opened on South Lake in Pasadena, I thought they got some nerve opening in high rent business area, with Dunkin and long time Winchells within 2 blocks, and pandamit goin' on. My mom would say its not something to brag about but I like to tell people I majored in donuts. I've tried all the places to be/go/eat. Like I was gonna name my little pup Donut. So I know donuts. So I tried just an itty bitty one, their version of a donut hole. It was meh. But I always expect glaze to be meh. Their massive apple fritter is the bomb, I hated/loved myself for every bite I took. This location serves Jones coffee, the "Randy's Blend". It's not all that, I honestly prefer to go direct to Jones and get their Madison or some rojo one they had on drip the other day (that was amazing but is also another review). It is, however, nice and hot. My scalded hand (through no fault of theirs) can attest to this, so coffee with care. The customer service is excellent. They are friendly, welcoming and informative. During these COVID times, they allow just two customers in the store at one time. You feel safe and protected. All others nicely line up outside. Everyone here is happy, probably because this is basically heaven on earth and they're prepping to eat manna. You can park on the street, and probably also in the back. My husband and I came here this morning (2nd day of opening) with high hopes and expectations, but we were honestly pretty let down. The line was extremely long, which was expected, but in addition to that the line moved so dang slow. When we arrived at 7:30 or so, there was seemingly only one individual taking orders. We waited about 45 minutes for 4 donuts and a coffee. Also, the social distancing standards they have are not efficient at all! They have the line come through the back entrance, but they also have people exiting that way. It is small doorway that leads to a very narrow hallway. To have people both line up and exit through the hallway seems ridiculous. The two stars are attributed to the Buttercrumb Raised Donut we had. That donut was really dang good. We also had a cinnamon roll that was good, but it wasn't anything special. My husband also ordered a Bacon Maple Long John, but he ended up throwing it out because it tasted very chemically and artificial. I ordered a blueberry cake donut, and when I got in the car, I had received an iced blueberry cake donut. It wasn't the end of the world, and I know they were very busy, but I do wish I received my correct order. I initially attempted to order a latte which was advertised on the menu, but I was told they didn't have lattes with no further explanation, so I just got an iced coffee. (I would for sure recommend you get your coffee somewhere else). All together our experience was mediocre at best. I can't believe last night was my first time trying Randy's donuts. During quarantine, mine and my husband's affinity for donuts has seriously grown. When a friend told us Randy's opened in Pasadena, we had to swing by. They do accept online orders, so if waiting in line isn't your thing, I'd suggest to order in advance. There was a line of about 10 people ahead of us when we arrived, but luckily we ordered and paid online. We ordered 14 donuts total. Some were sold out, but keep in mind we did place the order after 8 PM. My favorite was the sugar crondy which is basically a square cronut with a hole and powdered sugar , omg heavenly! I wish I ordered at least 4 lol. The Texas glaze is humongous, I woulda ordered only one of these had I known, but I should have from the name! Here is why it is important to open up multiple locations in a metro area (if your business can afford to do so). I have known about Randy's Donuts on the Westside since I have moved here. Most donut shops, even the ones I thought were my favorite, are mostly glaze. This apple fritter was well done with a desirable amount of cinnamon and apple, which most shops do not have. It is harder around the edges and softer near the middle. There were so many good looking donuts on display. BONUS: The donuts are affordable. Staff is super friendly (Taleen - owner's daughter) is super friendly and greeted me with a smile. They have all the varieties you can dream of. The donuts are made fresh every day, their plan is to keep the variety up so you always have many choices. They are working with two organizations and at the end of the day, they donate all the leftovers. Parking: there's a free lot with plenty of parking in the back and you can access the shop via the back door. Pros: 1. I like the size of the Texas donut. I just like abnormally large food items. Although it doesn't taste special, I'm glad I bought this. It cracks me up that one box was for a dozen donuts and one box was for this one guy by himself. Cons: 1. The place is not bad, but I was disappointed because there was enormous hype for this place. To me these are just average donuts. They look better than they taste. 2. At first I was excited about the donut breakfast sandwiches, but those were a let down as well. They were really heavy and greasy and my stomach felt gross after eating them (I ate two in one sitting btw - which is normal for me). Based on the description, it sounded like it had a lot of potential, but I won't get these again. If you like the idea of this (like me), the absolute best is the ham and cheese yeast donut pocket at Oliboli in Tustin. If you compare both, you'll know what I mean. 3. The layout of the store is confusing. Most people will park in the back, but the line goes out the front towards Lake - you will have to shimmy past all the people in the long, narrow hallway. read more

Since I've been cooped up indoors working all day/everyday, I decided to have a little adventure and go to their Grand Opening. Was it a long wait even at 8am? Yes. Was it worth the hour of standing in line? Absolutely. First off, their staff running the line provided menus and passed out the free glazed donuts so that anyone waiting in line just for that could go. That significantly shortened the line. Yes, once you get inside, you have a moment of "less than 6ft" when you walk by others, but it's no different than when you're going through the aisle of a grocery store. Now for the real reason you're reading this: the donuts. So delicious!! I've had them once from the original Randy's but did not recall them being SO delicious!! Glazed Raised was buttery and perfect (even if it was slightly smushed in a bag.) The Maple Long John is rich in flavor with the same buttery + fluffy base as the glazed. I got wild, grabbed a Sugar Crondy and oh-my-wowww-- it tastes like a light and high quality funnel cake. My husband and I are big fans. On top of that, they serve local Jones coffee. The guy at the front was a bit overwhelmed and forgot my iced latte for 20 minutes, which made me regret the order momentarily -- but their PR manager quickly handled the hiccup for me and one sip made me happy I waited. Overall: delicious, high quality and a hard working staff. Grand Openings are not easy with us food crazed Angelinos even without social distancing and masks.
