Great dogs, great service with friendly atmosphere! A local treasure!

I've been to this place what feels like a million times since it opened. I've had nothing but the char dog every time which never disappoints.. fries are great too! Not quite as good as Gene and Judes but I haven't made the trip since this place opened. The only thing I don't like about this place is the service. Move over Gene and Jude's. This place is awesome. It's super clean and their Chicago dog is perfect. The bun is steamed. Fries are wrapped with the dog. They actually use quality ingredients like ripe tomatoes. Fries are hard to leave alone. Friendly staff. Drive through is quick but we love to eat inside or outside of this place. It's probably our favorite hotdog. read more

Good dog. Great fries. We've eaten here a few times since they opened and the food is consistently good and service is improving. Tried the polish and it was good, so I'm looking forward to trying the Maxwell St. polish with the grilled onions. It's best to sit outside at a table if the weather is nice and listen to the oldies music and watch the traffic on Rand Rd. Heard the city just approved them for a drive-thru, so hope it opens before winter. read more

This place is a sad excuse for a hot dog stand. Their fries were soggy and limp. I asked for everything and got onions relish and mustard. It is less than 5 miles from Chicago and somehow everything on a hotdog is completely different than any other place in the city or suburbs. Even though this is right by my house I will not be going back. They sell a book called "You Dont Put Ketchup on a Hotdog" as if they understand the Chicago style hotdog. They don't. No tomato, no celery salt, no pickle and I had to request sport peppers. Requesting sport peppers is kind of common in the suburbs however when I returned home and only found three toppings I was pissed off enough to write his review. Their "fresh cut french fries" were more like deep fried mashed potatoes. I will drive out of my way to get my hotdogs somewhere else. read more

This place is amazing, I live in Des Plaines and happened to stop there one day just over a year ago. When I got my food it was love at first bite. The quality is amazing and the staff is ALWAYS friendly, they have NEVER messed up an order. My family loves this place.. seriously we go every friday or as we call it "hotdog friday." This place is very similar to Gene and Judes, however there are a very differences. 1. You don't have to wait in line for 25 minutes, 2. There is a drive thru, 3. you can get ketchup directly on your hotdog (so you don't have to drive through Mcdonalds a pay per packet). Although Gene and Judes will always have a place in our hearts, nothing beats eating a warm hot dog ( Gene and Jude's are usually room temp) at home without driving 25 minutes. read more

Great old fashion hot dogs like my mother used to buy at Jimmies on Grand when we would go to visit my grandparents on the south side some 60 years ago. The hot dogs come on a perfectly steamed bun with great fries. The hot dogs themselves have a casing to them with I think a natural caseing which is perfect with the correct resistance to the bite. The fries are fresh cut and in my opinion are better(crisper) and less greasy than Jean and Judes, although I love jean and judes but Rand Hot Dogs is much closer for me. To sum it up....its a Jean and Jude hot dog and fries, only better. The place is immaculate too. read more

Well, I live fairly close to this place, and I was pretty exited when it opened, but I tried it out and well... It was okay. I think this place is getting too much hype. It's a decent place, nothing special. Their food is good, but really nothing that will make me say "I got the munches for it" I've had better hot dogs and fries. I started coming here in about 5 years ago. A friend of mine brought me. I grew up going to Gene's and Jude's. This place is every bit as good if not even a little better. We frequently come here and get a double dog and a tamale. It's always spot-on. The Bun is perfectly steamed and the hot dog is nice and hot. The Maxwell Street polishes good and they have good chocolate shakes with whipped cream. Today I stopped in and ordered 2 double dogs and a large drink with a tamale. The bill was approximately $11. I gave the young man behind the counter whose name is Mike. Two fives and two singles. He gave me my change back. I walked over and sat down. About a minute later Mike ask me if I had given him to two $5 bills and two singles when I paid. I replied yes I did. He said he noticed that there was an extra 5 stuck to the back. He handed me the $5 bill and said he was sorry. he was a very nice young man. It was my fault I wasn't paying attention. Instead of keeping the five. I would have never known. He gave it back to me. What a nice honest young man. I proceeded to put the $5 bill in the tip can and told him thank you very much for being so honest. He was very grateful. This is an old fashioned hot dog place and the people are always very friendly and they have really good natural casing Chicago-style hot dogs. Go here! read more

I'm sorry. What is it with the rave reviews? The fries were terrible. The hot dog was not a true Chicago dog. It was missing the tomato, pickle and celery salt. The relish was not the neon relish. And it was not on a poppyseed bun. Probably not going back. Also, the counter person asked me if I wanted ketchup on the hot dog? WHAT???? He should be drawn and quartered for even suggesting ketchup on a hot dog. read more

I love this place and have been a frequent customer since it opened up. I am frequently in the Des Plaines area and could always use a good hot dog. Grat dog and with price you can't go wrong. The fries are the best part. Will definitely keep coming back. read more

Its very good food, better than gene and jude's in my opinion. When I go there a usually get the polish but there hot dogs are great too. People were friendly and the place was very clean. They also have a drive through if I'm in a hurry. They give you fresh cut fries with all dogs and polish. Its strictly a place to grab a quick Bite and go. Limited seating indoors but I think that's by design, they have counter space to stand up and eat also. I took one star off because of limited items on the menu but I think that's by design as well. They have outdoor seating for when the weather gets nicer and I think they have car shows during the summer. Nice place and I know I will stop by for a couple car shows later this year. I like there hot dogs. They are basic but very good. The French fries however need some improvement. They appear to start out fresh but are very soggy and greasy most of the time. If they improve the next couple of time I stop in I will update my review. read more

Definitely gives Gene and Jude's a run for their money! My fries were freshly fried when I ordered so I did not get soggy fries. Fries had perfect amount of salt and the hot dogs had great flavor. If you have been to Gene and Jude's, you have to try Rand Red Hots! Only negative was the lady who took my order. We ate here quite a bit before deciding to use them for our wedding. We used them for our wedding late night snack at Chevy Chase on 11/18. The things venues want from you these days is kind of ridiculous, but I understand. Rich was amazing at making sure the venue got the certificate of insurance they needed, and everything went so smooth. EVERYBODY raved about how good the hot dogs were, and not a single one of the 75 we ordered was left. I'm lucky I got one! Would definitely recommend. read more

I was driving with a buddy on Rand Road & hungry, but had little money to spend on something to eat. As I was trying to figure out where to go, I saw the beacon of hope, Rand Red Hots. I literally sped up for the fraction of a mile it took to get into the parking lot, I was that excited. Gene & Jude's will always have a special place in my heart, but it's too out-of-the-way to frequent on a regular basis. I've read several positive reviews that claim RRH is comparable (if not better) than G&J's. Such claims are intriguing to me which is why I've been itching to try RRH out. I waltzed right up to the counter since there was no line & ordered a double dog, fries & a bottle of water. My order # was called as I was putting the change in my pocket which concerned me a little since I thought the fries and/or dog wouldn't be as fresh, I was wrong. The double dog was hot & fresh, I would've burnt my mouth if I didn't eat a bunch of fries first. The fries were a little bit better than G&J's, they were crispier & RRH offers ketchup for dining in which is a huge plus for me. Great value, location & service, I'll be back for sure. read more

Just like Gene and Jude but much newer and the same service. Nothing really special on a simple low cost menu. There are much better hot dog places out there in this city. About the best thing is the clean tables and parking which is better than other places in the area. The owner has a real attitude and no customer service skills with his employees and customers. read more

Love, Love, LOVE this place. Everything from the vibe to the food is fantastic. My only complaint would be that they are not open all night for those late night cravings! Rand's has arguably one of the best hot dogs I've ever had in the Chicagoland area, and the price is right. They are cash only, which can be a problem if you walk in not knowing. This place rules! Great hot dogs, same style as Gene & Jude's. They only put mustard, onions, relish, and sport peppers on the dogs. No tomato, pickle, celery salt, or poppy seed bun.
