This place is just great! I've been here several times and was in the neighborhood last night and did a Yelp search. It's so rare to see so many 4 and 5 star reviews that have just been posted! One said '3 days ago', another said '12 days ago'- you know a place is good if people are really raving! It's cheap, fast, and delicious. Hot dog buns do not have poppy seed but they're always warm and soft. They give you such an abundance of fries it's impossible for me to finish all of them... And they always ask if I need ketchup (YES). I would highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. read more

If you're familiar with and enjoy Gene and Jude's in River Grove, then you'll love Rand Red Hots. Rand Red Hots is closer to me, so when the hot dog+fries craving hits me I can find no reason to justify driving to River Grove when an arguably better experience is available in Des Plaines. Comparing the food directly to Gene and Jude's, you'll likely notice the fries at Rand Red Hots are a bit crispier. The soft steamed/wet-with-grease fry experience from Gene and Jude's is not directly duplicated at the Des Plaines establishment. But If you prefer a crispy(er) fry, you'll actually prefer Rand Red Hots. Add to that the availability of milkshakes and malts, not to mention the celery salt shakers available on the counter, and you're guaranteed an experience equal to or better than Gene and Judes. read more

First time was Tuesday night. Right before bowling, needed a beef injection to carry me over. Not G and J....better! Fries were crispy and the dog was snappy. Going there tonight with the wife. I think this place is almost as good as gene and judes without the far drive and the long wait. I usually get the double dog with fries. The fries have a nice crisp to them. I will say the fries are a little better at Gene and Judes. Can't explain it. But this place serves ketchup. Which is one thing I can't stand when I go to the other place. Prices are reasonable and outdoor seating is a plus. Skip the char dog and just get the regular. Didn't really think the char added any flavor. Just burned the outside if anything. read more

This is no Gene and Judes and by no means is this Superdawg, but Rand Red Hots comes close...and actually it's right smack dab in the middle of the two location wise. They're building a drive thru soon, so that will set it apart from the other places. Staff is friendly here too! Now, the prices are affordable... $2.89 for a hot dog. Fries come separate though, $2.25. I also had a vanilla shake ($3.00) with my order and that was good too. If I'm just craving a good, quick Chicago style hot-dog, I would come here. read more

Was going to go with 3 stars, but the fries are excellent, as is the service, so 4 it is. The hot dogs are good, just nothing too special (no pickles, celery salt, tomato). Current price is about $3 for a dog and fries - again, an OK price (considering a Superdog will run close to twice this). Surprises me that they don't offer any specials - something like 2 dogs and a drink. I'll certainly visit again, I just won't go out of the way to do-so. read more

I've just moved to the area, and wanted to try a real Chicago dog, and tried this place through the drive-thru. I had the double dog and fries - the dog was pretty spectacular, but since I'm new to the Chicago dog experience, I can't say that it's "authentic" or not yet. The fries are like the fries from Penn Station, but better - they're fried just right, and aren't over-salted. By the way, Rand Red Hots only takes cash. As a plastic-only person, it was a moment of digging around in my wallet for cash. Luckily, Rand Red Hots has pretty cheap prices, so I didn't have to dig for long. All in all, I'd definitely come back and perhaps try some of the other items on the menu. read more

I have been eating Chicago hot dogs for 50 years and Rands is the best in all of Chicago. Their fries are fresh and not greasy and it appears they change their fryer oil much more often than others. They blow away places like Portillo or gene&judes or superdawg. Absolutely the best hot dog and fries in Chicagoland. read more

Rand Red Hots is exactly what I was hoping for when I went in. They have a small, simple menu, basically just hot dogs, tamales, polish sausages, fries, and ice cream. But they make everything really well. The dogs are my favorite. They come with the fries on top, and you can order them charred if you want. Don't miss this place! read more

I'm a hot dog expert. In my opinion Rand's who is fairly new to the hot dog scene is 3rd and has PLENTY of time to move to the top. I live closer to Rands and love there hot dog. Hands down best in area. Dog and Fries are amazing. The ambiance is incredible. This place smokes Portillos and in my opinion is better than SuperDawg.
