A Hidden Gem in Enfield…read more
My mom was craving Mexican food after we went grocery shopping, so we decided to try somewhere different. I've tried a few Mexican restaurants around Enfield, but I definitely have to say Sabores Mexicanos Taqueria Cantina took the cake. I happened to find it while driving, and it turned out to be such a cute little hidden gem.
First of all, they have their own parking lot, which I definitely appreciate. From the outside, you might not realize just how much character is waiting for you inside. It has that cozy, authentic hidden gem feel, the kind of place you might easily drive past without realizing how much culture, personality, and amazing food is waiting for you.
The moment I walked in, the artwork immediately caught my attention. Every chair has a different painted scene representing a little piece of Mexico, and I found myself looking at each one because they were all different. Between the beautiful artwork, colorful decorations, tiled tables, warm wood, and traditional touches throughout the restaurant, the place has so much personality.
It's simple, cozy, extremely clean, and genuinely one of the cutest little places I've discovered in the area. You can tell that someone put thought into the details and wanted the restaurant to represent more than just the food.
The customer service was just as wonderful. I was greeted right away, they took my name and politely told me my order would need a few more minutes. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and pleasant. Since I had ordered quite a bit of food for my family, they even helped me carry everything out to my car. Those little gestures say a lot about a business and definitely didn't go unnoticed.
Now let's talk about the FOOD.
On the drive home, my 3 yr old could already smell everything from the back seat and kept telling me, "Mommy, it smells yummy!" As he kept smelling the food. Apparently that was my warning that he was about to eat a little bit of everything we ordered.
When we finally got home and opened all the containers, my first thought was WOW!!! you get A LOT of food for the price. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. The portions were incredibly generous, especially for what we paid, and everything looked fresh and appetizing.
We ordered the chicken taquitos, which my son loved, and two chicken empanadas, which he loved just as much.
I had the chicken enchiladas, which are always one of my favorites, and they absolutely did not disappoint. The chicken wasn't dry at all, the sauce was perfect, and the rice was seasoned really well. I'm usually not much of a beans person, but even I enjoyed their beans and somehow my picky toddler was eating them too!
But I HAVE to talk about the nachos!!!
Nachos are something I'm usually hesitant to order for takeout because by the time you get home, the chips are soggy and everything has turned into one big mess. Not these! The chips were still crunchy, there was just the right amount of sour cream and guacamole, and we ordered ours with steak. The steak was flavorful, they definitely weren't stingy with the toppings, and the portion was huge. These were easily some of the best takeout nachos we've had.
We also ordered the Molcajete Mixto for my parents, and they absolutely loved it.
And Sabores Mexicanos earned some serious bonus points here because my dad is PICKY. Usually he will find something to complain about when it comes to food. This time? Nothing! Instead, he asked me, "Where is this place?."
What impressed me the most was that it wasn't just one dish that was good. We ordered several completely different things for the whole family, including food for a picky 3 yr old AND a picky adult, and everyone genuinely enjoyed what they ate.
Between the generous portions, reasonable prices, fresh and flavorful food, cleanliness, beautiful atmosphere, and genuinely kind customer service, this little place deserves so much more attention.
There aren't that many Mexican restaurants around this area that really stand out to me, so finding somewhere that impressed the entire family was such a nice surprise.
Next time, instead of getting takeout, we definitely want to sit down and eat there so we can enjoy the atmosphere and really take in all the beautiful artwork. My parents already want to go, so I think another visit is definitely happening.
Sabores Mexicanos Taqueria Cantina, you officially have some new customers.
If you're in Enfield and haven't tried this hidden gem yet, give them a try. And come hungry because they definitely feed you! Great portions, great prices, delicious food, wonderful service, and honestly one of the cutest little restaurants I've stumbled across in a long time.
