This hotel / bed n breakfast / fancy restaurant is a very interesting and nice blend of very country and very nice. It would be like if you combined the Westin with a dude ranch with a Michelin restaurant. My group was there in January, so as you can see from the pictures, it was very dry/ brown, but im sure in the spring/summer it is gorgeous and green. The rooms are well appointed; the sunsets gorgeous. They have a lovely community porch/lookout area where you can sit wine or coffee and just soak in the scenery. They also have a community fridge for guests to utilize. There is a Nespresso in every room, as well as filtered water. They also have some very sweet farm animals (donkeys, horse, dog) that you can play with and pet. My only complaint about the rooms is that the showers have low water pressure. I assume this is b/c they are on different infrastructure than an "in the city" hotel. Not a big deal to most people, but i have long thick hair and so like strong water pressure to wash my hair quickly. As for the restaurant, it reminds me of a friendlier, more texas version of French Laundry (the famous restaurant in the Napa Valley area). There is a fixed menu of 5 courses, all of which were very tasty!! I would have liked bigger portions, but the quality was great. I greatly enjoyed the food, the other guests, and the nice but not invasive wait staff. The staff largely leaves you alone, so make sure to expect that when you stay here. They are not constantly bugging you or checking up on you. If you are looking for a lovely country getaway, do make the trip out to Coleman, TX, and spend a night or two at Ranch Loma! read more

Rancho Loma lived up to my every expectation...and then some. We were greeted by the Williamson's super friendly dogs, Rio and Ancha. Robert led us to our gorgeous king room where the most delicious yuzu margaritas, prepared by Laurie were waiting for us. We enjoyed relaxing with our drinks before dinner, taking in the beautiful landscape and visiting with the other guests. There are several very comfortable (and stylish) outdoor seating areas. Really, everything at Rancho Loma is comfortable (and stylish). Dinner was 5-courses of PERFECTION. I brought wine and my hubby brought a couple of bottles of beer which were kept cool until he was ready for them. Hubby was super impressed with the little pilsner glass with orange zest that Robert brought to the table for his beer. When I asked for bread, the waitress brought 2 freshly warmed slices drizzled with olive oil. (It's all about the little touches, you know.) I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite course, so I'll say it was a toss-up between the Lasagna Bolognese and the Akaushi strip steak. This was the first steak I've had in 8 months and boy was it worth it!! For breakfast, Laurie whipped up the best huevos rancheros in the world. SO fresh & delicious! I really cannot recommend Rancho Loma enough. Service, food & the accommodations were all A++. Robert and Laurie have created something truly special and we can't wait to return again! read more

If you know food, when Texas Monthly calls a place "Texas' version of the French Laundry" and then goes on to name it one of the state's "10 Small-Town Restaurants That Put the Big Cities to Shame," you stop and take notice. And if you're one of those to take notice, draw a circle around Austin, San Antonio, Midland, Lubbock, Dallas, Wichita Falls and Waco and put Rancho Loma Restaurant + Rest at the center-shot bullseye that can be found three hours (or less) away. Do that-- and do it now-- because if you fall anywhere inside of it, you've absolutely no excuse not to avail yourself to some of the finest food and hospitality to be found in the Lone Star State. Located just a few minutes south of Coleman, TX, you'll kick yourself if you don't make the trip. Imagine the best food you've ever had-- "simple" preparations of duck or quail or steak or venison, that belie the highest level of culinary technique-- plated in high-artistic style, combining why-has-no-one-ever-thought-of-this flavor combinations, and you'll only begin to approach what Rancho Loma has to offer. And what they offer is to be found in the details, details, details. From the moment you arrive, perhaps a little road-weary, you're greeted by smiling hosts, a bevy of fowl and fauna and an expansive vista that will make you regret leaving your eyeglasses at home (so it's a good thing they have binoculars to help you take in all 300 acres). Perched to one side, a five-room bed and breakfast (the beds being the "Rest" side of the equation) whose design and modern appointments reflect a Critical Regionalism architectural style that is firmly rooted in the modern tradition, but tied to the surrounding geography and placed properly in cultural context. In short, you'll want to stay overnight. And you should, and then some. But bring enough wine or other cocktails for your stay, as Rancho Loma Restaurant + Rest is BYOB which isn't a drawback in the least. It allows diners (and overnight guests) the luxury of pairing their meals and their stay to their own satisfaction. The menus are presented in advance of your visit (we stayed two nights and were wishing for more-- we WILL return again) providing you with ample opportunity to find the wines that will pair "just so" with what's in store for you at whatever price-point makes you happy. And what's in store for you is something so far beyond good as to be spectacular. As the owners say, take your time-- the table is yours for the evening. You'll have all the time you need for great food, great wine (of your choosing) and great conversation. It's the stuff from which magic is made. And for the youngsters (or the young at heart), there's a modern, landscaped pool, an archery range, friendly and approachable livestock (and two wonderful guide dogs you'll want to take home with you) and plenty of land, land, land to explore under starry skies above. Fair warning: if you believe Cracker Barrel is 4- or 5-star dining, this might not be the place for you, but for everyone else out there-- and I know there's a lot of you-- you should make the effort. Rancho Loma is just close enough to warrant your trip and just far enough away to make you feel like you're someplace new and different. What a piece of Texas paradise! From the moment you drive in, you're welcomed with a lovely view and the charm of Robert & Laurie. We arrived after 9pm on a Friday night and we were still able to enjoy the evening to the fullest. We booked Friday-Sunday in the King Room. There's something unique about bonding in the company of strangers. There are only 5 rooms in this tucked-away ranch. There's a large extended deck with several chairs and this is where we sat for hours. We met 3 new couples and gazed at the stars, sipped wine, viewed the milky way, took in the breeze and laughed with one another. Our room was stunning! The outdoor shower was shockingly liberating. Who knew that would be my favorite part?! Cool breeze and showering outdoors is my new favorite thing. The decor, the simplicity, the incredible art.....it was all memorable and touching. Breakfast was the perfect start to my day! During the day, we toured the small nearby town, went antique shopping, drove by the lake, then returned for a 2 hour nap before dinner. Rancho Loma is an elegant retreat where it's clear every detail is focused on creating a luxurious guest and dining experience. It's also authentically West Texas. Truly unique and delightful. Within the first half hour of our stay, we were discussing when we might return. At that point we hadn't even had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant. At dinner (we dined there on both Friday and Saturday evenings), every course was extraordinarily delicious. Each dish was clearly well thought out and executed to perfection. During the day we hiked around the property, re-lived our childhoods by playing with the archery equipment, and sat on Rest's deck enjoying the scenery and a glass of wine (Rancho Loma is BYOB). We are looking forward to returning another season so we can experience this fantastic place in a slightly new way. read more

By far and away my favorite place for a great meal. The food is exceptional and I love the fact that it's not a "burn and churn" restaurant. When you make a reservation, the table is yours for the evening. We took a bottle of wine with us and got to enjoy everything at our own pace. This was good to do once. The service was kind but not overly friendly like I'd expect from Texas. No one asked how the meal was, struck up a conversation, etc. The first course was corn chowder. It was fabulous and I could have licked the bowl. Next was avocado and hearts of palm. Also excellent but nothing special. I could replicate it in my own kitchen in minutes. Next was bay scallops. Again, excellent. Main course was cod. It was cooked perfectly and that in itself is huge. Only drawback was that the portion was small. I got the size I'd expect for a halibut or Chilean sea bass. For a cheaper fish like cod, I expected a little more. Dessert was a brown sugar cake. It was dry and bland. By then I had a headache because it had gotten so loud in the restaurant. When dinner was done, I was relatively full, my date still hungry. This is one of those things you do once and it's cute and the food is as good. For $200+ and leaving hungry, I'll probably not go back. Also, obviously the price isn't a huge issue but I thought it was tacky that we were charged a cork fee for bringing our own bottle of Rancho Loma Vineyards wine that we had purchased from the vineyard that night. My husband and I are foodies and enjoy eating at great restaurants whenever we travel. We've eaten at places all over the world, and believe it or not, Rancho Loma is one of our very favorites! Laurie runs a kitchen that produces an inventive, well thought out set 4-5 course menu. If you're smart, you won't ask for substitutions, just eat whatever glorious dish is set in front of you. We've been going here for special occasions for years, and I have yet to have any dish that isn't fantastic. The ingredients are locally sourced, so everything is fresh and delicious. Robert is a friendly, knowledgable host and all of the servers are helpful and welcoming. The setting is a renovated stone ranch house with lovely grounds and a patio that you can enjoy before or after dinner. They have 5 guest rooms that are beautifully decorated. I thought the accommodations were nice but by no means spectacular. I found our room to be somewhat spartan. Unfortunately, it was quite easy for me to hear the goings on in the room next door, including conversations at normal volume. I also thought it was unfortunate that the coffee maker was one of those little espresso machines that are extremely loud. I did not use it early in the morning for fear of waking my wife and those in the adjoining rooms. Strange choice of appliance for otherwise-quiet surroundings I thought. The room had a pleasant view of a nice field. Nice linens and very comfortable bed. The restaurant was pleasant and the food was tasty. I was happy to be there but I was not overwhelmed. read more

If I could leave this place 6 stars, I would! A very modern boutique place to stay, in a small Texas town. We arrived later in the day, and were greeted by the owner and his sweet dogs immediately. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated, with two mini bottles of Prosecco! Has all of the amenities and comforts of a 4 star chain hotel with the tranquility of the south. The owners are second to none, and provide a delicious home cooked breakfast - much preferred to the standard continental you receive at most places. Rancho Loma was one of the best experiences my wife and I have ever had. We both "dined" and "rested" at their beautiful West Texas ranch. There are 5 queen/king rooms available for reservation for the night. We were in one of the queen rooms and the accommodations are exceptional. The modern ranch style rooms are beautiful along with large glass windows that overlook the ranch. Every detail has been carefully thought through. Each room is outfitted with an espresso maker, bath and pool towels, toiletries (soap, shampoo, lotion, facial wipe, lip balm), and a hairdryer. There is a large outdoor common area and deck for enjoyment and on a clear night the stars are brilliant under the Texas sky. There is also a crystal clear swimming pool for overnight guests to enjoy. A common fridge is available with a designated space for each guest to bring their own wine/beer/etc. Water is provided for each room along with a select few nonalcoholic drinks. A beautiful and delicious breakfast and coffee is prepared for each guest that stays overnight. To say that the dinner was exceptional does not do it service. Robert, Laurie, and staff do an exceptional job at making you feel welcome. They strike a perfect balance between feeling like a friend dining in their home and a guest at a fine restaurant. The service is bring your own wine or beverage which allows the freedom to pair with the menu, posted on their website early in the week, as you desire. Upon arrival you can enjoy a glass of wine on their patio prior to sitting at your table. When you are ready the table is yours for the evening which offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the experience. The quaint dining room is decorated in western photographs taken by Robert which provides a wonderful dining atmosphere. Dinner is 5 courses in which each course is beautifully prepared and presented and the flavors that Laurie develops in each dish are simply stunning. We spent 3 hours at dinner savoring the flavors and experience; however you have the freedom to move through each course as quickly or as slowly as you desire (we were one of the first diners to arrive and also one of the last to leave).
