Our morning spent at rams gate is one I will never forget. We signed up ahead of time for their palate pairings which included a tour of the winery, the grounds, explanation of the operation, history etc and ended with 4 wines and perfectly paired dishes to compliment their luscious wines. The facility is a gorgeously designed destination that appeals to all senses. As a design professional I was in awe the entire time. Think restoration hardware meets sonoma winery! We absolutely loved it! read more

WOW. Ram's Gate is an amazing winery -- and so close to the City! We came here with a Bachelorette party. We called a few days ahead and were told that we'd just be able to do a standing tasting with our group of 8 girls at 10 am when the winery opened. When we arrived, they were very nice and led us to a sit down table instead. I know that Bachelorette parties can get out of control in wine country, but they really went out of their way to make it a fun experience for us. As others have mentioned, the space is breathtaking -- inside and out! I also love that you can order flights, bottles or wines by the glass. There's no rush to taste 5 things in a row and run out. We didn't do the food pairing, but we'll be back for that -- I hear amazing things. *tip* Definitely call before you go! A couple days in advance -- or weeks in advance during the busy summer -- will score you a table with a view. Thanks, Ram's Gate. We had an amazing time! read more

This place just opened so it doesn't offer any of its own wine since their grapes aren't ready for picking yet. The wine they source is meh...except for the moscato, which was deliciously sweet and light. This place is so pretentious...from the sommelier to the ambiance. Since I came in a big group, it seemed like the sommelier didn't want to accept us. He said such things as "we are opened to the general public, but not to groups." Wtf. If you are opened to the general public, you are open to groups. Anyway, a lot of snide comments were made, and I felt like we had to thank him profusely for serving us. I couldn't take his attitude personally though, since it didn't seem like he respected the owners much either. This place also offers food and wine pairings so the food may be good. The building is beautiful, but the winery isn't too scenic. read more

Great location for your first stop headed into wine country or last on the way out. Upscale winery with tons of outdoor seating & a private area for their members. 2 flights to choose from - chardonnay & pinot. Both were great, although the pinot flight was better in my opinion. read more

WOW! I can't believe I hadn't been to this winery until yesterday. We walked up to the most beautiful building which looked out on breathtaking vineyard and mountain views. Adam, the Director of Hospitality, greeted us with such friendliness and warmth and led us on a tour of the grounds. I fell in love with the architecture (high, vaulted barn ceilings, clean finishes, pops of color) and loved the uniqueness of every room. We each tasted a flight, and the pours were generous. In addition, we shared a meat and cheese plate and - wow - everything on that board was enjoyed and devoured by the time we were through :) Overall, an amazing experience, beautiful building, great views, yummy wine and delicious food. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and pay a visit as soon as you can! I will be back the next time I am up in wine country. read more

We loved Ram's Gate!! It is an absolutely beautiful winery with spectacular views. They spared no expense when they designed and built this place. We did the food and wine pairing and it was amazing. We loved all the wine so much we decided to join their wine club. Tess, our guide, was so fun and entertaining. We all had such a great time. Make this a must-see Winery. read more

Ram's Gate Winery - On a warm day it doesn't get much better:) - Wineries Near Me - Sonoma, California

My husband and I had a WONDERFUL experience there for my birthday! The service, food, ambience and (of course) the wine was fantastic! All the food and wine pairings were delicious, beautifully plated and really well thought out. We also really enjoyed walking around the premises (it's so beautiful there) and going down by the pond where they had lawn games, charcuterie plates, bottles for purchase and picnic blankets. All in all, would most definitely recommend Ram's Gate as a must-visit in Sonoma! You won't be disappointed! read more

We came to Ram's gate on December 29th, 2011 and had a horrible experience due to the terrible service. We entered the tasting room and were ignored for the first 15 minutes, even though only two other couples were at the bar. We were then handed a menu and we sat down and waited another 20 minutes. A server then came over and apologized for the wait saying she appreciated our patience. She then poured 3 of our 5 tastings. For pour 4 and 5, we had to seek her out again. When it came time to pay the bill, she disappeared again. My husband walked over to the bar to ask for the check and went to the restroom. She brought me the check and said 'I can't believe your husband asked for the check and disappeared'. Great wine, beautiful room, shockingly unprofessional service. read more

Ram's Gate is the relative "new kid on the block" on the southern Sonoma winery swing, but they've already made a splash. I had been hearing the buzz about this winery for several months. Ram's Gate not only lives up to the hype, it's exceptional in every respect. It offers a world class facility that essentially feels like a living room in wine country along with an accommodating staff that's eager to please; a scenic and breathtaking view that includes the essential vines along with a delightful pond; and, most importantly, exceptional wines. I won't ramble on -- I'll simply say it's a must-see and must-experience. When there, be sure to try one of their chardonnays. If you're lucky, they'll be pouring the Ulises Valdez Diablo Chardonnay -- Ulises is one of my favorite vintners in the Napa/Sonoma region who has a deft touch with chardonnay, and his contribution here is pleasing. But all their chardonnays are unique and satisfying. The Crispo Vineyard Pinot Noir is the first pinot in Sonoma I've had that shares the complex characteristics of a Willamette Valley pinot -- soft, delicate, earthy, and it opens up beautifully. I also rather enjoyed their zinfandel and sauvignon blanc wines. Membership at this wine club would appear to have its privileges, including lunches, specialty party rooms, and full access to the winery (including the impressive barrel room). Joining the club is not for the feint of heart, however. It's pricey. For someone who's addicted to joining wine clubs, this is definitely a bit more of a "champagne taste for a beer budget" situation. It would be nice to see a bare-bones membership option that allows you to at least enjoy a couple wines quarterly. This is a minor quibble. The overall experience makes Ram's Gate a happy stop every time you go that way. Check it out. read more

Horrible Service, Beautiful Place Good news: incredible and beautiful structure, great views, perfect wine country experience that is close to Marin and the city. Bad news: horrible customer service that is seemingly endorsed. Advice: go for the views and feel but brace yourself and wait for regime change and then we can all celebrate. read more

Ram's Gate Winery - Wineries Near Me - Sonoma, California

This is by far the best winery I have ever experienced. The wine was delicious. I wasn't too crazy about the server... not much personality, but she was OK. But... on a beautiful California day, you couldn't be at a better place! read more

On a girls weekend adventure, myself and three friends from high school decided to do some winetasting. Ram's Gate was our second - and last - stop of the day. I'm not sure what captured us first...the breathtaking architecture, the gorgeous views, or the aroma of something very yummy coming from the kitchen. Seated in comfy chairs next to a window overlooking the farmlands of sonoma, we dabbled into the food menu and wine flight. The wine was stellar - the handsdown favorite was the Pinot Noir. YUM! But the food was out of this world...maybe it was bc we were hungry and already a little buzzed from the previous winery, but we couldn't get enough of the food! -cheese plate: fantastic combo of hard and soft cheeses along w/homemade crackers and a fig jelly - green beans: tempura'd to perfection w/a light aioli dipping sauce - short ribs: we devoured this one - the meat was falling apart, so tender and delish! - truffle risotto balls - deep fried balls of goodness - brought to our table complimentary, but we wanted to order more! We ended up skipping out on the other planned winery visits and staying at Ram's gate until the sun went down...and none of us regretted missing out on anything because this was the place to be! OH and did I mention the bathroom?! I tend to keep an eye out for chic, modern bathrooms...this one is amazing! After one girl from our group went she came back to the table exclaiming "you all have to go see the bathroom because I'm pretty sure I'm going to move into it"!! Overall we had an amazing experience and I can't wait to go back! I plan to take everyone here who comes to visit me to go wine tasting. While you won't find any complimentary wine tasting here, the $20 flight is WELL worth it. And bring your appetite because the chef knows what he's doing in that gorgeous kitchen of his! read more

We had such a great experience at Ram's Gate! First of all, the conveniently located winery is absolutely gorgeous! We loved the rustic yet upscale tasting room/restaurant; it would be the perfect place for a wedding. They offer small food pairings that you can order along with your tasting flight, and those that I tasted were absolutely delicious. All of the small plates on the menu sounded great; I think I could have ordered anything and been completely happy! The wines are delicious as well; I especially enjoyed the sparkling wine, the chardonnay, and the late harvest zinfandel (a dessert wine). I typically don't love dessert wines, but this one had a complexity that complemented the sweetness perfectly--it wasn't like just drinking sugar syrup! The pinot noir was also very nice. The only wine I did not care for was the cabernet, which was just kind of one-note for me. I also want to note that we experienced such friendly service (since a number of reviews have noted rude service). We had two people helping us, and they were both friendly and knowledgeable :-) We will be back! read more

We been member since beginning, love the place and services. The view is awesome, the chef is top notch and she innovates her menu each time. I've been here before with some friends and was planning on coming back to have a picnic given the gorgeous weather the Bay Area/Napa is experiencing. The wine and food were alright but the place has amazing scenery and what I remember to be great service. Last time we were really impressed by the people serving us and it was a terrific experience. We had a good time when we went. However, I called today and the lady couldn't have been more rude. She informed me they were all booked up and didn't even ask if I would like to visit on another day. She gave me no alternatives and was frankly not kind--that was ultimately it, she was not kind. Given that Napa is a hospitality industry and I am going there to be treated well and indulge it was a horrible experience speaking with her and trying to book something--similar to calling Comcast. A bit disappointed. read more

Five stars for the beauty of this winery. Probably one of the most striking and architecturally beautiful wineries I have ever seen. Famous Napa Valley architect Howard Bracken has scored another homerun, as he blends the outside with the inside seamlessly. There's a modern rustic barn feel yet completely upscale in design. Views everywhere, fireplaces with cozy conversation areas make it all warm and welcoming. How about the wine? It's okay, some of it pretty good. I like their Chardonnay. Somewhat pricey and know that you need to make an appointment if you want to do a tasting. read more

This place is exclusive. Not so much so that you can't roll on in on a weekend afternoon and try a lass or two of wine but so much that you can't get their wine anywhere else and if you want to come for lunch or dinner you had better make a reservation. I recently enjoyed a tasting flight of 5 wines ($xx) here on my way up to Napa. The sparkling and pinot were especially good. I liked that each wine had a suggested food match, rather than the other way around. Although we had already had lunch elsewhere we forced the capacity of our stomachs and tried the mushroom and goat cheese tart when we got to the pinot part of the flight. An excellent choice and indication of the quality of the food that is produced here. I can't wait to get bad for SF to I can make the 30 minute trip here for a more complete experience. read more

GORGEOUS WINERY + restaurant! Located conveniently on the edge of Sonoma, so it's great if you want to make one more stop on your way out of Sonoma or Napa! We stopped in as our last stop, so I only got a chance to try their Syrah. The rest of my group decided to get a few bites to eat and tried some cheeses, truffled risotto ball, and the fish. All smelled delicious and they said it was very yummy. Decor/Atmosphere - I'd definitely give them 5 stars! It's kind of modern and sort of a upscale lodge feel. They have fireplaces and lots of lounge areas. Service - 2 stars. We came near the end of the day and the staff seemed WAY TOO BUSY trying to close down and reconcile the tabs to pay attention to us. There were 5 of us and only 2 bar stools. So we just stood around for about 20-30 minutes before we finally gave up and asked for more stools or a table.... Then, I tried for a good 10 minutes to get someone, ANYONE's attention to try and get some water and to order some wine. I mean, seriously, THIS IS A WINERY. Give me some wine! Overall, I'd still recommend a stop at this winery because it is so beautiful and the wine & food was very good as well. But, just be prepared that service isn't the greatest. read more

5 stars: for the space, love all the indoor and outdoor spaces and nooks that you can be seated at. If you have kids, the lake area is great for tastings so they can run around. 5 stars: for the food pairings, never had a bad dish here so far...just remember the kitchen closes an hour before the winery so if you make this your last stop don't roll in too late 4 stars: for the wine, love most of their single vineyard pinots, love their sparkling, don't always love their cabernets 3 stars: this place is always busy! good thing we are wine club members and they can usually squeeze us in but seriously you have to make a reso most of the times on a weekend...kind of hard to be spontaneous and just make a quick trip up to visit. 3 stars: for the wine club, 3 different levels, I have the middle one. When I joined they didn't give me all the details and they don't seem to always be detail-oriented. I asked for pick-up and next thing I know I see a credit card charge and an email from FedEx letting me know that my wines are coming. Didn't get a notice for the pick-up party or that my next shipment was coming, wasn't told I could get different wines. I guess they just expect you to figure it out as you become longer term members... read more

Beautiful winery, best views! Went to their new summer pond party today and it is such a great hang out spot. This is a relatively new winery/brand. It's close to SF on the same road as Viansa, Jacuzzi, etc. The architecture and decor is fantastic. They have a pretty strict crowd control so that you may have to wait to get seated in one of the many sofa chairs (or brought to the bar). But once you're inside, it's very open, not too crowded and very relaxing. They have a 4-flight tasting for $20. There are also a lot of pairing food options you can order. Overall for Sonoma, this place is definitely on the more expensive side but the wines are good. My favorites are the Pinot Grigio and the Pinot Noir. We also got the cheese plate. Would be a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon. read more

The property is great, even with the buzz of the race cars from the nearby Sonoma Racetrack. Sunny, open space at the bar. We had a five wine tasting and it was good. Our favorite were the reds and the last dessert wine. Reasonably priced too. Picnic basket was great. Good meats, cheeses, olives and my favorite the fig jam. Worth it and no rush on time, just hang out under a tree on their comfortable blanket. Price was good $75 with a bottle of wine, red or white. Overall, a great experience. read more

What's not to love about a winery with great wine and food pairings? Seriously check this place out! Okay - so here's the skinny. The wine is great (not the most amazing thing out there but really good). However, what really makes this place is the food and the ambiance... The property is beautiful, but the combos you can chose with the food and wine. The sparkling wine is one of my favs and so are the arrancini, but I have yet to try anything that I didn't utterly enjoy... great service too!! It is a MUST - you can take your time but make sure you make a reservation beforehand, it is getting super popular now... The only negative is that this isn't an inexpensive stop - however, I personally believe it is totally worth it. =) read more

I really loved the vibe and ambience here - that I would have given five stars. They have an indoor tasting area that's really pretty as well as grounds outside for you to sit on a nice day or walk around. The reason I'm giving three stars is because as a non-member we clearly were given second-rate service. I understand prioritizing winery members but halfway through being explained our tasting we were told to wait because our server had to attend to the table next to us and they were members. Compared to other vineyards we went to in this area, our som gave us the least information on each wine and didn't seem to know as much as a result. read more

This review is for the environment of the winery, not the actual wines. Beautiful beautiful winery!! I feel like I'm at a resort at this place. One of the most inviting wineries I've ever been to. read more

Great tasting environment. Good bites menu. Some very special wines at high end.

I was looking forward to meeting a friend here today for a birthday toast. It was around 12:30 pm, cold and rainy, so no real view. I met an uninviting hostess at the entrance. She looked frozen in her down coat. I have lived around here for 30 years. So I passed it off and thought, maybe a glass of wine and a bite would be good, right? Nope! When we met inside, the "Wine Nazi" informed us that they "strongly discourage" people from ordering a glass of wine, until they have ordered their $40 tasting..."No Wine For Me"! The tasting had 4 options, 2 of them are Pinot Noirs, a varietal my friend does not like. And, I thought maybe the ram's were busting down their gate to get at their well known "pairings". But no, the only food they had on this dismal day, was a $35 (gluten, lactose filled) cheese plate. read more

As soon as you pass through the front gate you expect something great on the approach. Designed by a notable architect this winery offers a distinct view of the surrounding area including a bit of the racetrack. The modern winery offers modern and unique wine to taste for $20 for four varietals. They also serve wine by the glass and bottle, which seems to be popular with people sitting around the tables. There are a number of tables for you to sit and enjoy your wine next to the expansive panes of glass opening up to the fields and valleys. Wendy was an excellent bartender. She provided an extra serving of cheer with my four generous tastes. I am very happy we decided to explore this winery in a vast valley of many. read more

I have been a wine junky lately and went from winery to winery trying all types of wines. I must say the atmosphere and experience at Ram's Gate is unforgettable. The first place on the route when entering Sonoma County came highly recommended to us by a local resident. We are delighted we went to this place. We happened to select Thursday as our wine tasting/touring day. Luckily this place was open and not many cars were in their parking lot. The main building was invitingly open and there was plenty of open space at their tasting counter. "Zachary" assisted us while we were there sampling at the counter, and he was most pleasant and informative about the wines, the winery and its public building. We had a lovely time enjoying some delicious wines in beautiful surroundings. We even returned the following day to purchase a specific bottle and enjoy full servings of our respective favorite wines (my favorite was the Sangiacomo Chardonnay; his was their pinot noir). The staff members who assisted us at the tasting counter the second day were also quite pleasant and informative. I would gladly return to visit this place, maybe enjoy a wine tasting-meal pairing event. It's beautiful. read more

Location is convenient. It's pretty much the first winery when entering Sonoma from San Francisco. The grounds and main building is gorgeous! It's a new building/winery. They are RESERVATION ONLY as of the beginning of this month. My boyfriend and I walked in and were told there would be a 30 minute wait without a reservation. We were seated within 10 minutes, didn't seem too crowded. I did one of the two tastings and wasn't impressed with any of the wine....it's just a pretty winery to be in. read more

My bf saw this winery at an article featured in 7x7 magazine. (It was voted as one of the nice wineries in Sonoma that has a fireplace) The good thing about this place is that it was so easy to get too coming from SF. It was raining when we drove there but it took us about an hour or so.. The staff at the entrance were all so nice and accommodating to us as we enter the winery. We got seated at the bar as apparently, the patio requires a reservation. (The bar was good enough for us as we got there a bit late anyways. Passed 4 pm. They close at 6) We got the 1st option (3 Chardonnays and 1 Pinot) plus the cheese board. Our wine pourer was extremely nice (I believe Andrew was his name) as he gave us an extra glass of Cabernet because I mentioned that I love a good Cab. He also mistakenly poured a Pinot so he decided for us to enjoy that too. The cheeseboard was so good that we ate them all. From the spread, to the local organic cheeses, to the almonds and the garlic/cheese muffin they had.. All very yummy. (The bf was happy) The fireplace section was busy but we were close enough to see it. Overall, the experience was very relaxing and comfortable. It wasn't too crowded too as it was raining so we came at a good time. We both enjoyed our time here at Ram's Gate. We will definitely come back here again!! read more

The wines are really good, our favorites here were the Chardonays. The ambiance is perfect on a nice day, it's an indoor/outdoor space with a nice breeze and amazing views. The decor is modern and lux but not intimidating. My firm had a summer party here and the winery and the surrounding land is gorgeous. The inside of the structure indeed appears as a Restoration Hardware catalog, as it's designed by the same guy. The most impressive room is the library room, where members and the team today could sit and relax with a glass of wine. From the six I tasted today, I would definitely recommend the Pinot Blanc, it's fruity yet just the right amount of tartness. read more
