Went to the winery for the first time and honestly really enjoyed it. We booked a last-minute reservation on their website and it was completely painless. Super easy process and check-in as well. From what I saw, there were two main histoic buildings and both had a lot of character. The older architecture and stone details gave it taht classic wine country feel without trying too hard. There was plenty of seating and the space felt open and comfortable. The wine lineup was solid and well curated. They're known for their reds, but I lean more toward the whites and still found a good variety to enjoy. What stood out most for me was the special guided tour our Sommelier done for us. I loved seeing the antiques and hearing about the history behind the buildings and how the winery came to be. It made the whole experience feel more meaningful instead of just going in for a tasting and leaving. I didn't leave with bottles this time, but I genuinely enjoyed the experience and everything I learned. Definitely will be back! Buena Vista is one of our go to wineries in the Bay Area. We're members and love coming here in every season, especially summer. The property is beautiful with tons of indoor-outdoor seating, both upstairs and downstairs, plus tables scattered around the vines so you can always find a spot for your liking! It's technically family-friendly, but honestly, I wouldn't bring kids. They get loud and this place deserves a calmer vibe. Dogs, on the other hand, are always welcome and we're very much team fur babies The tastings are solid with a strong red wine lineup. I lean more toward whites and they always deliver. Their blanc de Blanc and the rosé champagne are favorites, and sometimes they pour their classic champagne too. We almost always leave with a few bottles, especially their Sheriff and their chardonnay ‍ really hard to resist!! There's no there, there. Well, perhaps that's harsh. While being one of the oldest wineries in California, it's not the oldest "continuously operating" in that the winery failed, the founder fled to south America to escape creditors in the late 1800s, and it bounced from owner to owner to Church to State before being reestablished in the 40's. It's nice to see it restored and in operation as a testament to winemaking in the region and the grounds and historic buildings are nice. You will however find a "machine" and in particular not the vibe that Sonoma and the north Coast has come to represent, at least to me. Our tasting was in the "Bubble Bar" and its vibe meshes with the current owner's Bond villain persona. Some varietals (the Russian River Pinot) were noteworthy but in general, meh. What a beautiful winery this is and my pictures don't do any justice. This was my first time here visiting this winery. As we walked up to the winery I noticed all the beautiful trees and greenery leading to the property. I felt like I was in another place on vacation. The winery has a maze to left walking up to the property that you can go into to have some fun. They have lots of seating inside and out. You also should make a reservation if you plan on visiting. We met a sweet lady named Mili. She had amazing customer service and was very knowledgeable about the wine and the property. If you decide to go you should ask for her. She will make your experience unforgettable. I'm not sure if they do food or not but there are places near by that you can go for lunch or dinner. This winery will not disappoint. He made it a joy! I'm sorry I didn't catch his name. We toured the winery, the caves, etc. As we left, the sun was setting into a beautiful hue. BTW, if you need accessible help, as my husband does, they have golf carts to pick you up and take you back and forth from the parking lot to the winery. We didn't know this ahead of time, and as I was getting our car to pick up my husband, a gentleman drove up in a golf cart and asked him if he needed a ride. So kind!! Ambience is cool, but for all the hyping up the internet gives it's so painfully mediocre with the most unfriendly staff ever. My family and I went earlier today and we were rushed throughout the whole tasting process by the person helping us and she gave 0 suggestions, seemingly annoyed we didn't know what we wanted. Worst of all, there was a giant dog poop left on the terrace landing. The wine itself was mediocre and overpriced. If you're going for the area or the history, it's worth a visit, but steer clear regardless. read more

What an experience! I was truly impressed with the time spent here. The scenic views and stellar service provided surpassed all expectations. Brandon dazzled us with the wealth of knowledge he shared. Surrounded in the beauty of the grounds, we started with a sampling of Haraszthy, Sparkling Rosé of Zinfandel as he shared the story of how its name came from the gentleman credited with bringing the first Zinfandel vines to California. We proceeded forward with the Private Reserve Tasting flight. Finally, we ended with a sampling of The Captain from the Founder's Collection. This is an experience that I won't soon forget. Located in Sonoma, what a cute, historical winery. It has so much french charm. If you come here and don't like it, something is wrong with you. Members tasting room is upstairs, lounge style with plush french louis type couches and chairs. There are also indoor and outdoor tasting areas. For your entertainment, a plant maze. Had such a great time celebrating my birthday here! Cedar is a great host!!! I didn't know if I wanted to do a tasting or order by glass and we decided on by glass so that I could pick and choose what I like, plus, larger pours! We didn't plan in advance enough to book a tour but was able to walk around a do a tiny bit of self guiding. After some walking we went back to the tasting room for more wine and charcuterie. Yum! We had glasses of the sheriff, petit syrah, and I think a pinot noir. Left with a bottle of the Sheriff so excited to enjoy it at home. The property is beautiful and soooo large! I'm a champs lover and came for the bubbles tasting in the bubbles lounge. At first I was very hesitant that I would be wasting $60 p.p. for the tasting as that's awful pricey IMO. But I feel I got my moneys worth, with one caveat. They typically serve two sparkling and two champagnes (yes, from France) and their regular champs was still on the boat on its way to the US. So I feel that the price should be reduced as it's not the same with three lower priced sparkling and one champs. They did have a brut rose option which was good, but I was hoping to try the regular style. Millie, our server was the best and most inviting. It was a sunny day and almost wished we were outside enjoying it, but my seating was much more comfortable. I toured the entire building, where the bubbles lounge is located. They have a lot of great event space. I did not see what the regular tasting building looked like but will be back to check it out, along with the gift shop we forgot about! What a treat to see the barrels of wine and the souvenirs collected by the owners. The wine club includes a ton of wineries in Napa. worth joining if I knew we'd be back for the comp tastings at so many other great options. I would go back and do the same tasting again, preferably with two champs. What a nice surprise for such a big wine brand/house. read more

I've done a lot of wine tasting tour over the years and I'm happy to say it's my best experience today at Buena Vista Winery. Michael, the Tourguide gave us thorough history of the founder of the winery as well as education of each wine we were tasting. We must have tried at least 6 kinds of different wine and I enjoy all of them! Members of the club can enjoy free tour and bring guests. They have wine sale twice a year which is a great time to stock up some favorites. Definitely worth to be a member here! You can make reservation online for tasting. Saved the BEST for last! This was our final stop of the day but it was absolutely the best one. We weren't interested in the wine tour itself because we wanted to try and get to as many places as we could but we ended up with one anyway, but a private one where we got to see all the special rooms/areas without having to keep up with the other groups. Millie was our waitress and service was top tier! We also got to talk to a lot of other patrons there compared to the other places we previously stopped at-- maybe it was the wine or maybe it was just the comforting feeling we all had while being there. It was a beautiful venue; the cave where they kept the barrels was remarkable! We didn't order any food but the wines we tried were all at the top of the list-- again all whites and sparkling. I've been to many wineries and consider myself a bubbles snob. I've traveled to Champagne, France and experienced some truly exceptional tastings. Living in the Bay Area, I'm fortunate to be within an hour of Napa, Sonoma, Calistoga, and Livermore, and I've also visited Temecula. With that said, Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma truly stood out. We visited on 1/1/26 on a rainy day, which made the experience feel even more special. There's a beautiful walking path leading to the first tasting room, and from the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. We were guided further down the path toward the caves and told to look for a curtain, behind it was the Bubble Lounge. It was incredible. Our wine host, Acacia, was wonderful. We tasted a wide range of outstanding sparkling wines, including two from Champagne, France, which immediately elevated the experience. Each pour felt thoughtful and well-curated. We also met Don, who was an absolute highlight. He shared stories about the winery and his family, adding depth and warmth to the visit. We explored the caves, which are charming and lead to multiple rooms you can wander through. The barrels throughout are fully functioning and add to the authenticity. The winery spans three stories, each featuring different artwork. The top floor is ADA accessible via elevator and includes a room with vintage grape-picking tools and a large table draped in red velvet, such a unique touch. The main building is also beautiful, with two stories and plush velvet seating. We didn't dine here, but we enjoyed plenty of bubbles. Don and Acacia, we'll be back, and we'll tip in cash, before we start drinking. This was the best winery experience I've had in Sonoma so far. read more

Turns out this is the oldest winery in California. The story of the founder and his life added to the tour. Our guide was Brandon, he has a great personality for this with a lot of information and a great delivery. The tour included 6 tastings with a sample of images Pinot Noir to give perspective of the aging. The interiors of the buildings was great with the history showcased. The room we spend the most time in had the walls covered with old tools of the winery that really added some history and examples. read more

BEWARE!!! Make reservation at your own risk! They charged my credit card without permission or authorization and are refusing to make things right. I came here for a birthday celebration. The tasting was ok. Very small pours and not offering re-visits. The menu didn't match what we got-disappointing from the beginning. Having to walk from the drop off location in a parking lot 5-10 walk away should have been the first red flag of how unprofessional this winery would be. I could not recommend this place less. Their website doesn't match what is actually offered. It was stated the champagne room was available to buy bubbles by the glass. When I inquired-I was told we could not go in and it was by reservation only. They must know someone at AMEX because my chargeback was denied, and this never happens with AMEX. My mom was treating me for my birthday-put her card down, added tip, and signed. So not sure how my card got charged without authorization. I've have over 5 emails going back and forth with Judy and Callie who were no help and playing dumb. Unfortunate because there is so much potential here, but not when you take advantage of patrons. Maybe works for normal tourist, but as a Bay Area local, I expect a lot more. read more

One of our favorite winery in Sonoma! Very nice and well kept property. You will do some walking from the parking lot to the tasting room. Wines are mostly flavorful and smooth. Their cabs are on the earthy side. We walked in on a Saturday around 1:30pm. It was busy! We were told that they weren't doing any wine tasting that day and that we either had to buy a bottle or a glass of wine. But it was fine because we got to try out some splashes before we committed to a glass. We liked it much better since we could taste wines at a faster pace. Wines were about $16 per glass after tax. Book a tour!! HISTORY HISTORY HISTORY. If you love history I'd recommend going and doing the tour that involves drinking from a barrel. Don't do the bubble room experience. That's what I did and I didn't get to delve into the winery's history or know really anything about it. There are NO grounds to walk. There's two buildings but you cannot explore them without a tour. We had an amazing cave tour with caviar today with Jake. The caviar tasting is a newer offering and Jake was great. He made the whole experience with his knowledge of the wines/origins and also provided great conversation. His attention to detail is unmatched. The caves are gorgeous and give you so much to look at and learn about. The grounds make you feel like you're in Jurassic park. All in all can't wait to come back. Incredible wines too. First, just a call out that the parking lot is a bit of a walk away from the winery entrance, so if you have someone with accessibility problems, drive up the driveway and drop them off! I wish I would've known that before parking (although shout out to Dane who took us in a golf cart back to our car after our tasting!). We had a seated tasting in the Bubble Lounge, and my goodness, first Mili is the greatest host of all time. She was fun, sassy (but like, appropriately so!), and allowed you to go at your own pace. She encouraged us to explore all the floors with our tastings, and was generous with her time to all the tasters in the room. She also recommended we go check out the Sonoma Square's Tuesday Market, and we happened to see her there and she gave us huge hugs -- love feeling like VIPs and we're grateful for her! Buena Vista Winery is amazing! For someone who does not live in California, I've been here a lot (at least 4 times since September 2022). My first experience: a large group of 21 people We were celebrating my 30th birthday and were placed in the Bubble Lounge with Don as our sommelier. He accommodated our group so well! He was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The sparkling wines tasted amazing and we had an awesome time exploring the bubble lounge and the room next to it! My second experience: We were a group of five visiting Buena Vista again (we were all there the first time). We were able to just walk in and do a tasting, which was really kind of the staff! We did a tasting with more still wines which was as delicious as their sparkling if not more. My husband and I are obsessed with their Reserve Pinot Noir. We luckily had Don as our sommelier again and he even remembered us from the first time!! Our experience was so wonderful that my husband and I became wine club members!! My third/ fourth experience: My friend and I went back for a tasting and the winery accommodated us, again. We got to sit in the bubble lounge since I was a club member, which felt so special! The service was incredible. Eric was our sommelier and he was so knowledgeable on wines and made awesome recommendations. And now I also really enjoy Buena Vista's Zinfandels too! We also attended their annual masquerade ball on this trip which was so fun! It was "Alice in Wonderland" themed last year and they really took the theme to heart! The decoration, food, activations and wine was all beyond amazing. We paid for VIP and it was so worth it! 10/10 recommend attending one of their masquerade balls!! The service we received from Don, Eric, and Buena Vista as a whole has been unmatched, especially as a wine club member at different wineries in that area. Came here on a Sunday Funday. The grounds are beautiful. Once you park there is a long walk but the walk is beautiful and so peaceful. They have a really cool maze that I didn't go in but it looked really cool. Our wine tasting was fabulous. Millie was our host and she took very good care of us.
