We visited the winery on April 9th 2026. My wife and I were excited to share the winery with our friends and family only to be disappointed by the lack of attentiveness and dismissiveness by our server Jo. She was too busy talking with her coworkers. As being wine club members since 2013 we were truly saddened by the lackluster wine tasting experience. Since moving to the east coast this was our first visit back to the winery since 2018. We are wine club members to multiple other wineries and have a good understanding of how you should be treated. Knowing that there are an abundance of other wine club membership options GunBun should pay attention to their wine club members and make sure they have a wonderful experience. Gundlach Bundschu is the winery that's hard to say but has good wine. They offer tastings, wines by the glass (or bottle) and memberships. We visited on an early Spring Saturday afternoon close to closing time but we never felt rushed. We opted for a glass of wine, and I was excited for such a generous pour. We all ordered different wines and we all enjoyed them. There are many picnic tables with umbrellas. We were told the tables were for tastings, and the area up a hill was for guests who did not order tastings. The scenery stole the show, it was gorgeous. read more

Unbelievably good service from beginning to end. Our server was accommodating, super helpful, and knowledgeable. Ended up getting 3 flights and 5 bottles. I love me a good cab, and it's kinda their thing. The cellar was epic and the view from the hill was incredible. Truly a great place to spend an afternoon. Our favorite visit of our latest trip to Sonoma/Napa, Gun Bun did not disappoint. We were one of the first people in for a tasting on a cold Friday morning and got sat quickly in the back area. It was a bit cold so dress warm in case, but I can imagine on a hot day the back room would have felt amazing. Our "flight" attendant was John (I think) and we really enjoyed his talk through of the wines and history of Gun Bun. He understood the need to speak slower for us to translate for my aunt and really went above and beyond with his service, giving us a few extra tastes. We really got our bang for our buck and we really loved the white, the rose, and even the Pinot. We think this was our favorite overall tasting we did all weekend. While it was too cold to enjoy the patio, it looked like they had a few seating areas. We would definitely love to come take the property tour or the cave tour on our next visit. read more

This was the second winery on our little tour of California, and it did not disappoint. Definitely book in advance, but I feel like that's a given for almost every place you'll visit on a wine tour! Super cute space inside where we did our tasting. Outside was gorgeous, but because of the rain, we didn't get to explore as much. I'd like to come back to experience it again when there is some better weather. We learned a lot, tried some really great wines, and even bought a few bottles to bring back. Hostess was amazing and very friendly and kind - we felt like they appreciated us being there, and we had great service. For a party of 8, that isn't always easy, so we were very grateful. read more

Very beautiful winery. Staff was super friendly Dog & family friendly. We went for their Hi-Fi Happy Hour. They sell slices of pizza and other snacks along with glasses of wine or you can also purchase bottles to share. We got some pizza which came out fairly quickly and since we were a bigger group we decided to just get some bottles of wine to share. Gundlach was quite a special experience. We took part in the "cave tasting". I think it was somewhere around $80-100? I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for the full experience. We got a beautiful day out in the vineyard for early December. Not too cold, not rainy we got lucky. Out there Nora walked us through the whole process and educated us about the land the grapes grew on as well as how all the different varieties benefit from the micro climates they're able to take advantage of within the vineyard (yes, within the single vineyard they can leverage different climates separated by 15-20°f if I remember correctly, don't quote me, I had a bit of wine. We asked many questions and were educated on the way the vineyard used sustainable farming practices to keep the soil fertile and produce the best product, we learned about the quality of wine from different aged vines and so much more. All this and I haven't even talked about the wine yet.. We learned SO much. It was much more immersive than I expected. Of course we tried probably a half dozen or so wines, maybe 1 or 2 more than that even. The wine was all great, I'm not a wine connosuer by any stretch, but even I could taste the difference. Go for the experience and education, stay for the wine. The cave itself was really something to see. It doesn't seem all that overwhelming when you first go in but then you realize it goes on for quite a stretch. It's basically this big tunnel they dug out and it stays perfectly climate controlled all thanks to nature. Not at all as expected. Courtyard has a city park feel with blaring dance music from a live deejay (one of the owners). Wine guide didn't like wine so we learned nothing about the pours. I don't even recall that he mentioned them being regenerative and organic. He was sweet, but didn't even know much of the history of one of the areas oldest wineries beyond that it was founded in 1858 and survived prohibition. And he'd been there five years! Wines were average and reasonably priced, but you had to buy four bottles to wave each $45 tasting fee. Not worth it for me. Not the experience I was looking for and nowhere was this scene described on their website or Tock when we made the reservation. read more

Really enjoyed tasting here! The service and wine were both wonderful and the property was beautiful. It was also really interesting to learn the history of Gundlach Bundschu and just how long it's been around. We had a group of 4 and made reservations to taste outside ahead of time, we had a shaded picnic table which was absolutely needed for the hot day we were there for. They had a nice small selection of food on the menu, or you could go in their little shop and pick some things out. We went with the charcuterie board from the menu. We didn't pay attention to what it came with and had thought it would be a combo meat and cheese board, though it was just meat. Our bad for not looking at it further. The presentation of the board was pretty and it was a good amount of food for us to snack on. Favorite wines of the day were the rosé and the heritage pinot noir. The pinot was on the pricier side and we still had a few wineries to go to, so we passed on this and all left with bottles of rosé. read more

Been here a long time ago for a tasting at their bar. This time for their apres ski party which was super fun. Huge pours when you enter the party and wine just keeps flowing. The grounds were super festive. The staff and the guests took the theme to heart...everyone was in their best ski attire, which was so fun to see. The food was delicious. The wine was plentiful. My favorite was their heritage varietals, and their Sadie sparkling wine. I could probably drink liters of Sadie, it is that good! Gundlach Bunschu provides a unique tasting experience! As you roam the property, you can take a guided tour that walks you past the beautiful vineyards and into the wine caves. The caves are long and winding- which caused a little bit of distress for some of our friends who lean towards claustrophobia. I've been on many a wine tour and always enjoy getting information about the wine we're tasting and learning the unique history of the winery. Our tour guide was excellent in providing lots of information. I will say that our tour was lengthy and by the end, our group began chatting a bit between sips. Our tour guide redirected us sternly as she wanted us to hear all the information she had. We appreciated her insight and expertise, but also wished there was a little bit of flexibility to allow for some down time for a little less formal conversation. After our tour, we enjoyed a few bottles to share on the outdoor tables. I was able to find this wine in a local grocery store when I returned home and bought it in honor of our trip here! read more

We loved this experience as a family. We brought three kids under 6 and shared their charcuterie board. Afterwards, we walked along their beautiful property to see the vineyard and reservoir. We went to Gundlach Bunschu ("gun-lock bun-shoe") as our very first wine tasting in our Napa/Sonoma trip, and what a high bar to start with! We did the cave tour with Nora, and we absolutely loved her. She had the right amount of quirky, fun, and knowledgeable that made the tour perfect, and she was able to answer all our questions with as much detail as we were interested in. I was a fan of the Zinfandel and Rosé of Pinot Noir, and my friend signed up for the wine club because she loved all her tastings so much. My wife and I came up to the area for the first time from Los Angeles and our first winery on our list was Gundlach Brundschu. It did not disappoint and set a high bar for all other wineries on our list for the weekend. The grounds are absolutely stunning. What a great view! Plenty of seating and lots of shade. The gentleman helping us, I believe his name was Shipp although my wife remembers it as Chip, was so friendly and educated on the winery's history and all the wines during the tasting. We're very interested in how the wine was made and he spoke with passion on each serving. The wine itself was just as good as the location and experience! So hard to pick a favorite since they were all delicious. Highly recommend this as a stop to the Napa/Sonoma region! read more

I really wanted to rate the cave tasting experience and this winery 5 stars because the cave itself was beautiful and the storytelling during the tour was very enjoyable. It was a unique setting and overall a memorable experience leading up to the end. Unfortunately, the service toward the end left us feeling a bit overlooked. It seemed that wine club members were being prioritized, and we waited about 15-20 minutes while others received additional pours. When we were finally able to speak with the guide, we shared that we planned to purchase a case and two additional bottles and asked if we could taste one more wine before finalizing our purchase. He asked us to wait while he continued assisting the club members he had already been helping for quite some time. He then collected our glasses, processed our payment and tip, and returned with our case of wine, mentioning that another staff member could help us to the car if needed and walked away. At that point it was clear he had no intention of helping us any further. We ultimately decided not to purchase the additional bottles we were considering and chose to take our business elsewhere. Given the higher price of the tour, we had hoped for a better overall experience. While we enjoyed the cave and the history, the ending unfortunately left us feeling a bit dismissed. read more

A nice winery to try when you're wine tasting in Sonoma. The sitting area is cozy and warm. I felt welcomed by the staff. They're all quite friendly and love to converse with you. We did share flights. So my husband and I split pours. Our wine pourer was Meno. She was wonderful! I love how she knew each wine's story as she poured. It's always so fascinating to learn something about how the wine was made interspersed with the history of the family and how they came to Sonoma. We ordered a plate of bread with olive oil and this amazing sun-dried tomato dipping sauce. It paired well with our tastings. Overall, this is a good, casual place to try when touring wine country. Gundlach Bundschu: Where Wine Meets Chaos I had high hopes for an evening of music and wine at Gundlach Bundschu's amphitheater. Sadly, those hopes were crushed faster than the grapes in their vintages. The winery seems to have adopted a 'sardines in a can' approach to ticket sales. The lawn was so packed that a quarter of us ended up sitting on dirt, probably getting a taste of the terroir we didn't ask for. Navigation was a nightmare - imagine trying to cross the Atlantic on a pool floatie, but replace the ocean with a sea of picnic blankets, limbs, and bags. Need a drink or a bathroom break? Good luck! The hillside was a treacherous obstacle course, with no clear path to salvation. Security guards, apparently trained in the art of unhelpfulness, blocked every sensible route. Their solution? 'Just traverse the barely navigable hillside in pitch darkness.' Because nothing says 'wine country elegance' like stumbling over strangers in the dark. When we attempted to forge a path to the tasting room, we were left with two options: become expert crowd-surfers or tightrope walk across hay bales. My friend chose the latter, resulting in an unintended stage dive that would make rock stars proud. The only available escape route? Across the stage itself, earning us a stern lecture from a juvenile security guard who waited for us for 15 minutes while we were in line to buy a bottle of wine and seemed more concerned with stage sanctity than patron safety. Didn't ask once if she was hurt! The cherry on top of this disastrous sundae? All restrooms were conveniently located on one side of the property. Apparently, GunBun believes in 'survival of the fittest' when it comes to bladder control. In their quest to maximize profits, Gundlach Bundschu has forgotten a key ingredient of hospitality: guest safety and comfort. A lighted path or two wouldn't hurt, folks. Neither would a lesson in basic event planning. We left just 40 minutes into the concert, our evening ruined and our enthusiasm for GunBun thoroughly stomped like grapes in a vat. If I wanted this level of discomfort and danger, I'd go to a mosh pit - at least there, it's expected. Gundlach Bundschu, you've managed to ferment a perfectly good evening into a bitter experience. Congrats on achieving notes of frustration with an aftertaste of regret. This is one vintage I won't be revisiting. read more

We love Gundlach Bundschu! Besides having the most delicious wine, what an amazing place to visit. We're wine club members so we typically like to taste at the Bacchus Club but they have a lovely indoor and outdoor tasting area as well. Please note that if you're tasting in the normal areas, they have some awesome food to go with their wine. We love to get some cheese and salami with some artisan crackers so we have a little nosh with our nectar, if you know what I mean. We've also ordered one of their gorgeous cheese boards before when we were too lazy to put it together ourselves. I've also had Gundlach Bundschu handle two corporate things for me. They have done our corporate gifts for the last two years and Lily has been great helping us ship selected bottles to our clients at their individual locations, with a customized card from our company. Lily also helped us arrange a tasting for my organization one year and that turned out really lovely. We'll be back! read more

My wife phoned a week ahead of my arrival, and let the folks know I was looking specifically for Petit Verdot. On the phone it was like "sure, come right in". It was really rainy the day I arrived, so just getting there was a bit of a chore. When I walked in, I was NOT greeted warmly. The girl behind the desk was reading a book and seemed bothered that I arrived. She then explained that Petit Verdot was only available to their wine club members. Gosh I wish we would have heard that before I made the trek in the rain! I left shortly after. When I turned around, the girl resumed reading her book. By the way, my wife and I were there with a few friends years before and it was a much better experience. This is what I expected on this trip. So it was a real disappointment... As the owner of a company myself, I know that sometimes it takes a while to bring new people up to speed. The folks at Gundlach Bundshu seem like good family-oriented people. This was our first stop for wine tasting and it's a beautiful venue. Nestled a little higher up on a hill, there are nice views of the city and surrounding areas. The table reservations are quite strict and fill up so if you miss your scheduled time, you might be out of luck. That's exactly what happened to us but it actually worked out because after we got our flight, we took a short walk to a shaded area that was actually quieter than the main area. There was plenty of seating and even games like corn hole to keep us occupied. As far as the wine goes, it was smooth, especially the reds which were a little chilled. I'd definitely come back here if I was in Sonoma again. read more

I was over the moon excited to visit this winery with my birthday group. We scheduled the cave tour, which was everyone's first experience visiting a wine cave so it made this visit really special. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable! I don't know what I enjoyed more, the rich history of the winery, the views/ambience, or our tour guide who was amazing. The walking tour had a few stops where we were able to sample the different wines, walk through the caves and bask at the vineyard that's on the other side of the cave. During the tour we walked past a formal dinning table that presented quite the vibes that I assume is for seated tastings inside of the cave. I would definitely want to come back and have a tasting there next time. My favorite wine was the GEWURZTRAMINER, though not presented in the traditional sweet form it was very pleasant! Can't wait for next time. My wine score is based solely for my palette which favors whites and light reds. What a pleasant winery experience I had at GB! The team was dressed up for Halloween because we were a week away from the holiday and it was too cute. We were seated at a nice picnic table with an umbrella. Server was so so sweet and personable. She explained the history of the winery, which was so nice to know how big of an impact GB has in Sonoma. We all did wine flights and they gave us a huge variety of whites, reds. You can also walk around the area and there's a big pond to enjoy. I'd recommend this place to anyone! read more

And we mentioned it and we all had a laugh. We tried quite a few wines and the only one my husband and I really liked was a Pinot noir. So unfortunately, we didn't buy anything. I understand it's one of the oldest wineries in Sonoma. We sat outside, and luckily under the shade as it was in the high 80s. read more

Gorgeous winery with a massive patio overlooking the country side. It's also a children-friendly patio during the daytime. We went at 11am, and the place was empty. We asked for a seat in the sun, and got more attitude than expected from the hostess. Personally, I didn't think it was a huge ask, but apparently I was asking to move mountains. We did the $40 wine tasting with 5 tastings...and the tasting pours were small (three sips max) - which is an incredibly expensive wine tasting (compared to other places in Sonoma). Our waitress did a great job in providing explanations. Their wines are on the dry side, including sweeter wines such as Rose and Chardonnay. They have cave tours + tastings too, but requires reservations well in advance. Snacks are available to purchase too. read more

Highly recommend booking the underground cave wine tasting + food pairing. We had barrels of fun in Gun Bun's unique underground cave experience. The following exceptional wines were poured for us: - 2013 Merlot - 2014 Estate Cabernet Franc (my favorite) one can really taste the dark chocolate - 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon - 2012 Vintage Reserve - 2013 Vintage Reserve Every sip of wine paired deliciously well with the spiced Marcona almonds, prosciutto, and cheese.  The grounds are immaculate, and it's the oldest family-owned winery in CA.
