Picnic grounds overlooking vineyards
Greg C.

I knew of this winery but never visited or even tried it, there is so many in this region. It was a flawless Sunday so we had things for a picnic and took a chance on this place to see if there was a place that we could have a picnic. It was a beautiful location and we went to the shop to have a taste and to buy a bottle of wine we picked a white that was very good and took our bottle Out to their picnic grounds where we sat in the warm afternoon Sign and enjoyed the wine and our location it was perfect and I highly recommend this place.

The Mrs. asked me to find a beautiful winery and I was successful in finding that In Bartholomew Estate Winery and Vineyard. Bartholomew is nestled in the hills of Sonoma. It encompasses some 375 acres and is not only a winery, but a public park with several hiking trails. The first hospital that was built in Sonoma is also located on the grounds and serves as the tasting room. The outdoor tasting area is located in a beautiful grove of California oak trees. The Mrs. Said it was the most beautiful place we'd ever been wine tasting. I would have to agree. As you're sitting there sipping a glass of wine, you forget the outside world. Believe me, it is very easy to do. Pouring for us was a very boisterous Italian gentleman who knew ever detail about the wine. It made fir a great experience! Tasting was $45 for four very generous pours. The prices of the wines were very reasonable as well. If you're looking for a fun and relaxing wine country experience, check out Bartholomew...just make a reservation.

Great place to go for a hike followed by some wine tasting in a beautiful setting. We found some of the wines to our liking and actually purchased two. They have beautiful outdoor eating areas set up for the days that they serve food so check their website for details.

Bartholomew Estate is a can't miss for tourists and locals alike! My family and I enjoyed the $45 tasting that included 2 whites, a rosè, and 2 reds. All wines were delicious and the pours were large. The views are unmatched and you can enjoy a day in the expansive park surrounding the winery before or after your tasting. The staff were very friendly and attentive. As a bonus, they are dog-friendly both indoors and outdoors (no kids allowed though)!

Flight tasting for red wine.

Kids are welcomed here! Nowadays highly recommend reservations for all vineyards. Lovely estate with picnic tables for you to picnic. No reservations for picnic tables. 10-5pm. Outdoor seating with waiters require reservations. Hiking: easy trail to find. But medium level difficulty. Lots of loose rocks. Very steep and slippery segments. Like diamond head in oahu but rougher. We went back instead of finishing the whole circle. Wine: need reservations for tastings. No food. Closes at 5. You can buy a bottle and drink on your own. They have a table area with waiters to look after you. At picnic tables you need to bring your own glasses. No indoor seating because of Covid. May be very hot for wine tastings in the summer. Staff: nice lovely staff. Attentive. Of the red wine offerings, the zinfandel was lovely.

This is a beautiful winery with amazing wines. For the tasting I tried the Sauvignon blanc, Marsanne, Zinfandel, and Press Release. My favorites were the Marsanne which is a crisp white wine and the Press Release which is a red blend wine. In addition to the wines the scenery was beautiful. The outdoors tasting area is in a park and the tables are made of tree trunks which was pretty cool. You also have a view of the vineyards while tasting your wine. The service was also great and I could tell they were passionate about their wines.

Ask the Community - Bartholomew Estate Winery

Is this winery kid friendly? Is it possible to get a private table a little bit further from everybody and bring kids so that if they are allowed it does not bother the rest of the people at the winery?j

Thanks for reaching out! While our formal wine tasting is for those 21 and older, most guests with children opt to purchase a bottle to take to Antonia’s Garden so that the kids can play while they relax and enjoy the wine. Reservations are not… Read more

Booked the wine tasting for four. initially we planned to do the outlook where we were given a wooden cabana to sit with our group from afar. It looks aesthetic and alluring, but when we sat inside to see how it was, it felt cold and the walls were so high that you couldn't even view the vineyard. one of those things where the idea is great, but execution not so much. Ended up on the heated terrace which was way more comfortable. Service: 2/5 our server didn't seem very knowledgeable about the wine when we asked questions and of the information that she gave us, it sounded like a list of notes from a description that the wine maker gave her. This was very disappointing. The entire interaction felt strange, and there was no eye contact. We all felt rushed because when we weren't done drinking the wine, she would always come in and tell us she's gonna pour us the next wine, then leave, just so we need to finish the current glass we had. In general, if we aren't able to finish a glass of wine fast enough, or we just don't want to it would be nice if the winery could provide more glasses for us to try the rest of the wines instead of being rushed and using the same glass for every round. Overall, this place is great if you want something very casual. It's such a fun place to sip on wine with friends. Butttt, if you are looking for a true wine experience to learn, this is not the place.

My husband and I just came back from Italy and Portugal, and comparing the wines they were much more complex here. Food is actually good and substantial here with a full kitchen to prepare the dishes instead of other wineries just taking things out of a package. The area is also beautiful and we happened to catch the leaves changing colors. Taking a walk around the property, it wasn't over crowded and the vibe was chill. My girls and I went for my best friend's birthday and we honestly had such a wonderful time. When you call and inquire they tell you that non-members can only book on weekdays, so my girls and I made a reservation on a Friday. You pay up front for the total amount of people, which also includes tax and service tip, so when you arrive on the day of your reservation, no payment whatsoever is needed! It was $85, and with tax and service fee it came out to $111 each. When my girls and I arrived, we were greeted by a host named, Justin. She was immensely warm and inviting, basically sunshine in a person, and made us feel so welcome and comfortable!! She poured us a welcome glass of rose, and my girls and I were able to walk around the property (which was truly stunning) with our glasses. When we were seated, we were served rosemary almonds, and our server came up and introduced the history of the venue, as well as the menu, and wine. The menu was set, and it was absolutely incredible. This was the first time I felt as though this experience included an actual MEAL rather than an array of small bites or a small charcuterie platter: 1. fried olives 2. tomatoes and cucumbers with whipped feta (MY FAVORITE) 3. Prosciutto, melon and basil 4. Braised butterbeans with SCRIBE olive oil 5. House-made flatbread (so delicious) The wine was amazing, of course. We received about 4 glasses of 3 oz pours, which was enough for us. The Chardonnay was definitely my favorite. If you're ever in the Sonoma area, I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation you honestly WILL NOT REGRET IT.

We were sat promptly with a pour in hand already, and had a gorgeous view of the lemon trees and property. I cant remember our hosts name but she was super sweet, never pushy in us buying anything or liking anything. They brought out multiple blankets for us for the chilly weather and we waited about 10 minutes after being sat to get our snacks. The food was all so fresh, with lots of great flavor but also feeling healthy- we particularly loved the arancini and the bread with oil. The wines were all tasty but honestly, not as memorable as the views/staff/food- I think this winery is definitely worth a visit for those elements alone. I think the light red was probably my favorite but would be back for more food honestly :)

They start you off with complimentary bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar which was delicious! The tastings are affordable, with the Taste of Italy at $30, which is what we opted for. For the Taste of Italy, you choose 4 wines from a list of white and reds. We chose the 2024 Arneis, 2024 Gilia, 2025 Dolcetto Nouveau, and 2021 Teroldego. Buying 2 bottles of wine waives 1 tasting fee. The Dolcetto Nouveau is a chilled red, which I've never had before. Wasn't particularly a fan, but interesting to try nonetheless. We reserved our tasting but they do walk-ins, which we noticed were seated at the bar. So if you'd like your own table, I would make a reservation to be sure. The day we went, we did an indoor tasting because it was so cold, they didn't do any outdoor tastings. The outdoor courtyard is covered, and they have a large event space with some wine barrels that I presume is for wedding receptions. You can walk out to the fountain and vineyards and take pictures. We went in December so of course the vines were bare, but overall still beautiful and peaceful. There is an olive oil tasting room and various products for purchase. Overall worth a visit for the scenery!

We were so grateful to still be able to experience our wine tasting here. Leane reached out to us prior to our visit and let us know what to expect on the day of our tasting and asked if we had any dietary restrictions. The hospitality at Sangiacomo Family Wines is one of the many things that makes this wine tasting experience extra special. We were warmly welcomed by our wine tasting host and educator, Vlada, as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a splash of Sauvignon Blanc that was amazing. Everyone that works here was so friendly and welcoming. Along the visit, you will see a collection of other wine labels from other wineries in Sonoma County and Napa Valley that get their wines from Sangiacomo vineyards. The amount of different wineries that get their fruit from Sangiacomo vineyards is impressive. Before being seated, we soaked in the stunning views of their vineyards on the property. We enjoyed a delicious spread of pastries, cheeses, and charcuterie, which we enjoyed as part of our visit. This winery is known for their exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Everything we sipped was absolutely amazing, and we loved all the wines we tried. Vlada was an exceptional host and we learned so much about this winery. We learned that this is a family owned winery that started out as a pear farm. It changed to a winery and love that it has remained a family owned winery over the years. Our tasting was cozy and we loved all the festive decor. The property has rustic trucks and a tractor on the property that they decorate during the different seasons. We were blown away by how much we loved all of their wines. We purchased a few bottles of wines to enjoy at a later date. An all around exceptional wine experience in Sonoma!
