Sonoratown was our first stop as it was highly recommended by my boyfriend's brother, and it did not disappoint. It immediately earned a spot in our top five favorite taco spots for carne asada in all of Southern California! The location that we went to is located in between Elysium DTLA and Perfumeria Starlux on E 8th St in downtown LA. There is only paid(?) street parking around the area that could be extremely difficult to find during work days. Because we couldn't snag a spot, my friends and I opted for takeout and didn't end up eating until about 30 minutes later. Despite the travel time, the tacos were still absolutely incredible--I can only imagine how spectacular it tastes fresh! My friends and I ordered the carne asada tacos, and my boyfriend opted for the cabeza. Before I even took a full bite, I tasted a piece of the loose carne asada and was blown away; it was perfectly cooked with a wonderful tenderness and deep smokiness. The use of a single, thin, handmade flour tortilla--rather than the standard double corn--was a total game-changer and exactly how I preferred my tacos. The salsas were equally impressive, offering fantastic flavor and a great kick. My boyfriend's cabeza taco was just as standout, featuring super-tender meat with a rich, savory profile. Wowowow! Between the exceptional meat quality, bold flavors, and great value, this is easily one of the best taco spots I've visited. It's a huge bummer that they don't have a location down in San Diego, but we will definitely be back!

Supported this place when it was nothing special. And this is how they treat people now. The older bald Hispanic owner yeah, that guy -- has apparently decided to die on the hill of being a complete asshole to paying customers. Here's what happened. He walks through the restaurant like usual, greeting tables, "Hi, how are you, how's the food?" He hits the white family sitting across from us with the full friendly act. Then he gets to our table. Me (Hispanic) and my Caucasian wife. I say, perfectly polite: "Hi sir, how are you? I haven't seen you in a while." His response? Loud. Performative. Aggressive. "Seeing me? I've never seen you in my life." Said it out loud on purpose so everyone around could hear. Instant hostility. Zero reason. Just pure attitude. Stack this: * He had JUST been at the table a few spots over minutes earlier. * At that table he was all smiles, sweet, nice, shaking hands with me and my friends. * Warm. Friendly. Completely different person. * Then he walks over to us and flips the switch like a light. That's not a bad day. That's bipolar restaurant owner energy. One minute charming the room, next minute publicly denying he knows a longtime customer and trying to embarrass him in front of other tables. For what? Because I said "I haven't seen you in a while"? That's the crime? He didn't need to lower himself like that. He chose to. He chose to play it up for the audience. He chose aggression over basic professionalism. And the fact that the switch flipped so hard after he'd just been nice to us minutes earlier makes it even more ridiculous. I've been here since 2013. Through the old Atlantic location. Through the remodel. Through the years of giving this place my money. And this is the treatment? Publicly acting like you've never seen a loyal customer's face while you were just shaking his hand a few tables ago? Unprofessional. Erratic. Completely unnecessary. If the owner wants to run off decade-long customers for sport, that's his business. But don't pretend this place is the same as it used to be. It's not.

Inside there's a small bar there's servers beer and margaritas, there's also the ordering kiosk inside. They have a nice spacious outdoor patio. They have a set menu of what you can order, $17 felt pricey for three tacos but the tacos are pretty big and really good quality.

I remember the tacos, when they used to be a taco truck, were not bad, I actually liked them, but that's in the past. The restaurant organization is all over the place and makes NO sense; ordering from a kiosk, then you go and sit down, they call you on a loudspeaker when your order is ready, the food is served in a messy to go box ????? And finally when you get to the product is bland, not to mentioned I ordered a $20 taco that was cold and COMPLETELY TASTELESS, and don't even get me started with the SALSAS... they are total trash.. the salsas play a HUGE place in taco restaurants/taco trucks if the salsas suck, don't bother with the rest. I also paid an involuntary 15% of "service charge" when the last thing you will receive there is SERVICE. So disappointing, I'm sorry but this place won't last only because their tortillas are good. Sad, I wanted this place to be fantastic and it's definitely not. I ordered: 3 tacos combo : chicharron (tasteless) chile relleno (also tasteless and the presentation was horrible) asada (meh) 1 rib taco worst $20 ever spent My girl ordered asada and chorizo, chorizo being the best of them. Horchata for $7 in a micro bottle, terrible cheap presentation Salsas: all of them are terrible, but the Salsa Verde was the worst of all.. it tasted even a little sweet? Wtf..??
