My mom working on an art project. A lasting, beautiful gift she left me.

Lakeside Manor was a Godsend for me. My mother spent the last 7 months of her life here. Johanna and her staff are absolute angels on earth. They took impeccable care of my mother in every way, and I know how difficult this type of care is because I tried to take care of her on my own before I placed her. I realized I simply could not do it on my own and she needed 24/7 care. It was so fortunate that Lakeside Manor came up in a Google search, otherwise I never would have known about it. It is wonderfully unique in the sense that it's like a home versus a skilled nursing facility. My mother never wanted to be in a skilled nursing facility, and I feel that because of Lakeside Manor we were able to honor her wishes. The staff has literally been like family to our small tribe. My mother passed late Feb 2019 in the most dignified way, thanks to Johanna. We will never forget the wonderful and loving care my mom received during her brief time at Lakeside.

Top picture is when he first arrived and bottom one was taken 3 months later. I sleep better at night knowing he's cared for so well there.

I was told another area was being prepared for parking, and it would not be a problem. We arrived at the assisted living in January. There was always a parking space in January. Early February, I noticed signs being placed at each parking space reserving it for visitors, employees, and now, assigned spaces for those who still drive. I drive 30 minutes to Santee, and there is absolutely no parking available for visiting. Even down the steep street coming up to LC, there is no parking available. There are things that could be done to alleviate the parking situation, but management doesn't seem to care? Now when I attempt to visit, the lot is full, people are parking everywhere including handicapped, fire lane, and blocking other parked cars and people are yelling at each other vying for vacated parking spaces. If parking weren't a problem, I'd give 3 or 4 stars. The kitchen, while sometimes disorganized, always gives three hot meals a day. The place doesn't smell bad and seems clean. The common areas are nice. Medicine delivery (costs extra) hasn't been a problem. We have had a couple problems with "care" issues, but nothing too serious. We are seriously considering an another place a few miles away with ample parking for visitors. For the cost of monthly rent, a parking space should come with the unit.

Pet friendly, and a dog park on site. The staff are kind and caring. Victor is the best in sales. Front desk ladies are wonderful. The 1 star deduction is for the slow and complacent service in the restaurant. At the Pointe's restaurant, Terrazza, the food is excellent, but staff move slow and often forget to prep the tables with basics like water and glasses, silverware, etc. Once they seat you, they disappear and it can be quite a while to be able to ask for something like forgotten water or butter, etc. The buffets run out of food due to lack of staff watching and preparing. The Chef rarely (?never?) comes out to check on his tables. Bless the restaurant's staff's hearts, they could use a good manager that is present on the floor and a checklist for the table service.

We choose it because of the facility itself and the staff. The rooms are spacious and well-kept. For the past 3 years I have noticed that it is always clean and extremely well maintained. They have been sprucing it up the past year in areas that were getting worn. They've done a nice job. It provide pleasant environment for the residents. They offer a varied menu and I have always found the food is often better than any other institutional food I have eaten. In three years I never experienced an awful meal. I live locally so I did eat there on many occasions. They provide a varied offering for every meal. There is also a large and varied daily schedule of activities for the residents. As my mother's health declined one of her strongest complaints was that she was unable to go to her daily activities and hang with her friends. But of course the most important aspect when considering any facility is the staff. In three years I have meet dozens of employees and have been highly impressed with the level of concern and care and, most importantly, the patience I have seen by almost all of the staff. I have never seen anything untoward. I have noticed a somewhat high turnover level, especially in the administrative staff, over the past three years but they seem to do a good job refilling those positions with the same like-minded staff. There are at least a dozen staff members I would label as always going up and beyond to assist the residents. I would like to add that I recognize it isn't easy working with some residents due to their disabilities and their frustrations with their life as it is now but the staff at Montera does it with aplomb, respect and kindness.

My mom had worked there for about 35 years and they welcomed her back as a resident with open arms. Ana always was there to answer questions quick to respond on emails and calls. Working with Ana was a fantastic experience; she was incredibly knowledgeable and efficient". Ana always displayed high-level professionalism and made the entire process stress-free. I highly recommend talking with Ana when considering this property for your loved ones. Ana went above and beyond to solve our issues or concerns I had. I did look at other properties in San Diego and they looked and felt like dorms or prison not to match the price. The Gardens had the lowest price for the best clean rooms and staff, the caregivers are very nice always there when needed. The Gardens felt like Family Ana made us feel like family. My mom is happy and safe. My 2 concerns: 1: with the wait staff and servers most of then were nice and friendly but a handful were always grumpy and just not professional.. They are not quick to see if someone comes in to eat and take there order or even clear the tables so other people can come in and sit. Note: I saw a server not on break in the kitchen area just eating chocolate Ice Cream, I thought Really!!!! 2: They need better activities all day even if only a handful of people are there: Example when they go in trips they should have something going on if you don't go. Maybe different type of activities if you are not a "Religious person" on Sunday. OVER ALL 5++++STAR for Ms Ana above and beyond... I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Calling her take a tour.. On October 5 of last year, our brother Radford suffered a catastrophic brain aneurysm and a carotid…read moreartery dissection while in Ocean Beach. He was admitted to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he remained for over two months. During that time, he endured two strokes--one caused by a bleeding ulcer--as well as the placement of a stent in his brain to relieve pressure. To say he underwent at least six surgeries is likely an understatement. Thanks to an extraordinary surgical team and, without question, God's grace, he survived a moment when we were preparing to remove life support and organ donation was already being discussed. There is no doubt in our minds that his survival is nothing short of a miracle. Following this ordeal, we faced the overwhelming challenge of finding a long-term skilled nursing facility that accepted Medi-Cal. With limited options and tremendous uncertainty, Edgemoor Skilled Nursing Facility came to us unexpectedly--truly as a vision of hope. While some older reviews gave us pause, we also heard from others that the facility had changed significantly for the better in recent years. Trusting our instincts (and a higher power), we decided to move forward--and we are profoundly grateful that we did. The newer side of the facility is clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. However, what truly sets Edgemoor apart is its people. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted not as visitors, but as family. Doctors, nurses, CNAs, and staff members surrounded us with compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern. Three doctors were present during the intake process, taking the time to ask thoughtful questions about who our brother was--and who he still is--especially since he was unable to speak clearly or move beyond slight hand gestures. They were patient, clear, and intentional in their communication, ensuring we fully understood every step. As I repeatedly thanked them for the care and attention they were showing, their response was both humble and reassuring: they acknowledged that while they may not be perfect, they are always willing to listen, learn, and improve. That level of honesty and accountability is rare and deeply appreciated. Our brother has now been at Edgemoor for nearly a month, and I can confidently say that our family feels a growing sense of peace. My anxiety has eased, and I can finally breathe a little easier knowing he is in capable, caring hands. Between my sister, brother-in-law, niece, friends, and myself, someone visits almost daily and at varying times, so we have seen different facets of everyday life within. While we are still learning the procedures and routines, we have already witnessed remarkable progress. His growth--both physically and cognitively--is evident, thanks to the comprehensive therapies and the unwavering patience and kindness of the Doctors, nurses, CNAs, and staff. Their genuine care is something you can truly feel. As with any facility, occasional differences of opinion may arise, but every concern we've encountered has been resolved through open and respectful communication. I plan to continue sharing updates as time goes on, but my intuition tells me we are exactly where we are meant to be. Our brother is in the best hands possible, and we are deeply thankful to the entire Edgemoor team for the compassion, dedication, and hope they provide every day.
