The staff are so caring and devoted to the residents. My father loved living at The Ridge. He could not wait to pick out what he was going to eat every day because he LOVED the FOOD! Things at LC seem to have gone downhill in the past few months. When we signed up, I asked if parking was ever a problem because I planned to visit my mother in assisted living care twice weekly. I was told another area was being prepared for parking, and it would not be a problem. We arrived at the assisted living in January. There was always a parking space in January. Early February, I noticed signs being placed at each parking space reserving it for visitors, employees, and now, assigned spaces for those who still drive. I drive 30 minutes to Santee, and there is absolutely no parking available for visiting. Even down the steep street coming up to LC, there is no parking available. There are things that could be done to alleviate the parking situation, but management doesn't seem to care? Now when I attempt to visit, the lot is full, people are parking everywhere including handicapped, fire lane, and blocking other parked cars and people are yelling at each other vying for vacated parking spaces. If parking weren't a problem, I'd give 3 or 4 stars. The kitchen, while sometimes disorganized, always gives three hot meals a day. The place doesn't smell bad and seems clean. The common areas are nice. Medicine delivery (costs extra) hasn't been a problem. We have had a couple problems with "care" issues, but nothing too serious. We are seriously considering an another place a few miles away with ample parking for visitors. For the cost of monthly rent, a parking space should come with the unit. read more

My stepfather stayed here for only a couple months, they are entirely unable to care for anyone in this facility who needs help. Almost every single employee that I have met here has been completely ignorant and incompetent. My stepfather was injured, bleeding and in immense pain because of how careless this staff was. We also got a call in the middle of the night to pick up my stepfather because he was no longer welcome IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. If you truly care for your family, keep them far far far away from this place and their employees. Incompetent amateurs who probably don't even have high school diplomas let alone special care credentials. When I think of this place my blood boils. read more

I can only review Senior living for Lantercrest and I can honestly say it's worth the price tag. The facilities (Pointe & Plaza) are gorgeous, staff is helpful, kind and patient, there are so many activities available and group outings, they have two pool, a bank, pharmacy, medical all available to seniors. They also have a full kitchen serving 3 meals a day with a chef using a point system included in the rent. You truly can't go wrong here. It's safe and secure (24/7 security and front desk staff from 8-8pm). Go check it out. You won't regret it. read more

Lantern Crest seems like a great community for seniors that are still very active and want to live in a resort like setting. There are many ammenties that are available but if your loved one needs memory care, there is a big difference in that they will pay a hefty community fee for ammenities that they cannot use. Memory care is locked down and the seniors all participate in group activities and supervision all day. I would not even waste taking a TV or setting up cable since they are not encouraged to stay in their rooms. Overall, they seem under staffed and feel like there is a little more sizzle than steak. Food is just okay. Communication, organization and teamwork could be better. read more

The lease prohibits things on room balconies that attract wildlife. This is interpreted as including hummingbird feeders and any feeding of birds. The swallows do come in season and nest on one side of one building and that is fantastic. They only eat bugs on the wing so bird feeders don't attract them at all. California native plants are in parts of the landscaping and they are helpful to birds. The prohibition on things that attract wildlife does not appear to prohibit planting a garden on the balcony that attracts birds and butterflies. A very few hummingbird feeders are on public parts of the grounds. They do not appear to be handled in a way aimed at attracting hummingbirds. I have not seen a hummer on them yet. Not all residents have the freedom to walk the full campus. Those who are in assisted living and cannot leave their building unaccompanied have independent access to the outdoors only to the small internal patio in their building and their own personal balcony. The internal patio has a few hummingbird feeders. I don't know how often the nectar is changed. I have not seen a bird there yet. The planned activities in the monthly calendar for those in assisted living do not include outdoor activities. Clearly bird watching from their own home is valuable to senior. It is engaging and gives seniors a chore to do that is helpful. Finding a way to allow balcony bird watching for residents in all parts of the campus would add value. At the very least, disclosing this ban on a known senior pastime when giving tours would be helpful. read more

This place is great when everything is fine and they are getting your money. But don't expect a call back when you need assistance with billing or any other issue. The departments are constantly passing you back and forth between each other. They just want your money and really don't care about your elderly family members. read more

I called 9 days ago to request a tour, left a voicemail. Nobody returned my call. Called again today and was told all the counselors were at lunch, to call back in an hour. Called back again, Operator transferred me to a number where nobody answered. After no response, and 3 attempts to speak with someone, this is NOT a place I would place my elderly parent. I personally know of someone very fragile and elderly who moved in there and that very same day his wallet and credit cards stolen and used. Had to be staff, he was in a secure area. I have nothing but praise for the Ridge Assisted Living at Lantern Crest! My father needed more help than family was able to provide. We didn't want him to live alone. After having family move in with him, then him move in with family, we decided that it was time to look for assisted living. I toured several places and ultimately chose the Ridge at Lantern Crest because of their amenities, activities, the fact that his little dog could live with him, and the convenience of their location. It was a difficult decision to take him out of his home, but selecting the Ridge was one of the best decisions I could have made, and I wish I'd made it sooner. It was a huge relief knowing that I no longer had to worry about whether or not he took his medicine, or had clean clothes to wear, if he was eating or was having a medical issue. He'd had a number of falls prior to going in, but his balance and walking improved significantly while he was there. The staff was amazing. I couldn't name any one person as a stand-out because each person I met was just so kind, caring, and helpful. They treated my father with dignity and respect, but also as a person. There were times that the staff didn't know I was in his room visiting, so I got to hear how they greeted him when they entered the room. It was the way family would greet a loved one. He liked to be a grump, but they saw past this. Sometimes he couldn't control himself and his face would really light up when a caregiver entered the room. The staff got to know him, would joke with him, learned how he liked his coffee, what items on the menu he would prefer, what types of movies he liked. They made sure he attended activities and tailored activities to his likes. He loved the twice weekly happy hours with live music, and not just because he could have a glass of wine. I visited often and became friends with many of the residents and staff. Every resident I met was well dressed and groomed. The staff seems to enjoy making sure the residents look their best by helping with picking nice outfits and accessories and styling their hair. We had nice conversations, and my dad really enjoyed the social interaction with people who had similar life experiences to his. The building is spotless inside and out. It has every amenity you could ask for, including a movie theater, outdoor garden, family kitchen, and a fully stocked craft room. They haven't missed a single detail. If anything, they have too many rooms for the various activities. The dining room is set up like a restaurant. The food is very good and they offer a variety of daily specials which are always changing. I wish I could give more than 5 stars, and if I could, I'd give 5 hearts. read more

I called to set up a tour of assisted and memory care for my LO. I left a message and got a return call a few days later, which I missed. I called back and got nothing. I got put on the emails which always say RUSH RUSH, prices and things go up. I didn't care I don't like being rushed to make this type of decision. I called again and said what happened, they gave me another person. She never returned my calls at all. I have a friend who is the hair dresser and she got a hold of them saying I have been trying for 2 weeks to get in. Finally someone called and we set up a tour the following day. I show up and he isn't available and I am not on his schedule. WHAT???? They send someone to talk to me and she starts the story of the owner..blah blah blah shows me us the mail boxes and proceeds to tour the halls independent living units. I asked why are we seeing this unit? I am here for assisted and memory care. Its a different building all together. She walks us around the halls. I could give 2 cents about the halls. That's not a tour. I said I am here for assisted and or memory care only. She says I would have to reschedule to see those. I ask to leave. I also asked for prices. She gave me a tiny folder and there is NOTHING about memory care. No floor plans no prices nothing. What a waste of my time. If their admissions and administration is that messed up this bad how in the world could I possibly think of having my parent being taken care of properly???? HUGE FAIL. read more

Lantern Crest facility played an integral part of my grandmother being able to live independently and age in place through the end of her life. The staff at Lantern Crest were all supportive and responsive to her needs, as well as ours as we sought to ensure the best possible care was in place for her. Many times the family felt that there were "angels" working there to help my grandmother as her memory disappeared.
