Upon first meet Ana was kind, professional, sweet and full of knowledge about the (ALW) Assisted Living Waiver program and about the staff, the entire aspects of the Gardens. My mom had worked there for about 35 years and they welcomed her back as a resident with open arms. Ana always was there to answer questions quick to respond on emails and calls. Working with Ana was a fantastic experience; she was incredibly knowledgeable and efficient". Ana always displayed high-level professionalism and made the entire process stress-free. I highly recommend talking with Ana when considering this property for your loved ones. Ana went above and beyond to solve our issues or concerns I had. I did look at other properties in San Diego and they looked and felt like dorms or prison not to match the price. The Gardens had the lowest price for the best clean rooms and staff, the caregivers are very nice always there when needed. The Gardens felt like Family Ana made us feel like family. My mom is happy and safe. My 2 concerns: 1: with the wait staff and servers most of then were nice and friendly but a handful were always grumpy and just not professional.. They are not quick to see if someone comes in to eat and take there order or even clear the tables so other people can come in and sit. Note: I saw a server not on break in the kitchen area just eating chocolate Ice Cream, I thought Really!!!! 2: They need better activities all day even if only a handful of people are there: Example when they go in trips they should have something going on if you don't go. Maybe different type of activities if you are not a "Religious person" on Sunday. OVER ALL 5++++STAR for Ms Ana above and beyond... I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Calling her take a tour.. When my grandma was there she did not get help as much. The staff would talk in front of her in a different language and she was treated different from others and my mom had to call grossmont Gardens multiple times. she had to move because of this read more

Grossmont Gardens is unlike any of the other assisted living communities that I have toured and had loved ones living at! They are very professional starting with the initial tour conducted by Gemma. She personally took the time to answer every question, email and text and if she didn't have the answer she would immediately get help. I couldn't ask for a more compassionate, intelligent, energetic and funny person to rely on than Gemma! I feel as though she and the other team members were as concerned about my brother getting the very best care as I am. Ana Navarro was a godsend in helping me navigate the ALW program and the Medi-Cal program and always took the time to ensure that I understood the process. Reggie the Executive Director is a force of positivity and energy unlike any other. He is an incredible resource for understanding the options available to his residents as well as being a very kind and loving friend to them! Stephanie and her team of caregivers are very warm, friendly and compassionate with the residents AND their families. Grossmont Gardens is always clean and smells fresh when I visit my brother. The management and the staff always have a smile to share and if you've visited other facilities, you know that isn't usually the case. I would without hesitation recommend Grossmont Gardens to anyone looking for a wonderful home for their family member. I arrived here at Grossmont Gardens on March 16th, 2025 so almost exactly 3 months ago. Prior to here I was in a skilled Nursing facility in Riverside County for 16 months. A five disk cervical spine surgery at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs left me partially paralyzed and I was told I might not ever walk again. With a great deal of help and a lot of hard work on my part I am walking again albeit rather slowly. I managed to make enough progress that I no longer needed the level of care at a SNF. Because I have lived most of my life in San Diego I was anxious to return to this area. I can't believe how lucky I was ending up here at Grossmont Gardens in La Mesa. I qualified for the ALW (assisted living waver) program and first spoke with Ana Navarro the Community Liaison person who is the ALW coordinator. A couple of phone calls with her and she managed to make it happen. I couldn't believe I was "going home." Each county in CA manages their own Medical/EBT, etc. programs and transferring everything back to San Diego has been one giant pain in the buttocks. But the staff here knows how to make s..t happen. First up Bernadette Verdugo has been nothing short of a miracle worker, she simply does not give up. I did my best to make the calls to get Medical etc. squared away but these folks speak a totally different language. She has not only "fixed" all the issues with Medical but also with Social Security. The Executive Administrator, Reggie Jones truly does have an open door policy. Our Maintenance Director, Marsha Terell responds quickly and has a great crew who all know what they are doing and response times for any problem is always quick and work is done well. When I arrived here back in March I had never seen or heard of this place. There are several buildings which provide different levels of care based on need. The almost 9 acres of land are beautifully landscaped and professionally taken care of. The food is extremely good and the dining room and kitchen staff are friendly, considerate and patient even with the few who are "difficult." There are plenty of options if the entree is not your favorite. There are activities here everyday and trips to places from Walmart to Balboa Park on a regular basis. Almost forgot how helpful the receptionist staff are. Not only are they always courteous and friendly but they know who you need to talk to if you have an issue. At 77 and with very limited means I feel extremely fortunate to have landed here at Grossmont Gardens. My name is Steve Barton and I am in the West building. My grandfather has been living at the Grossmont Gardens for 7 months and has been living a much happier life! Grossmont is a very clean facility. My grandfather has a nice apartment that not only makes him feel at home, but has amazing amenities as well. We first contacted Grossmont in March and had a tour scheduled the same week. Reggie was very accommodating and reassuring. Since then, we have had no issues and my grandfather is able to not only be independent but call on one of the amazing staff if he ever needs help. My parent was at Grossmont Gardens for over two years and the care (and the food) was fair. During the tour everything looked great. Beautiful sunny room with a view. Lots of activities and good food. Soon after my parent arrived the food went downhill. We called it worse than hospital food. It's basically inedible. They are obviously trying to cut costs but this is ridiculous. They claimed to be understaffed with the caregivers. My parent was left in their room for close to 30 minutes after pulling the bell, before getting assistance. From what we've heard, the company has changed ownership at least once with no improvement in care. We found out they are now charging a couple of hundred dollars to do their laundry when it used to be included in the monthly costs. Parent would often call their children when they couldn't get anyone to come to their room. We called the front desk but still no one came to the room. We relied on the facility to properly care and feed our parent. We would not use them again. read more

My father recently moved into Grossmont Gardens. We toured many different homes/facilities before deciding on Grossmont Gardens. My initial contact with this facility was with Vika. Vika toured us around the facility, answered all my questions, and was so helpful during this very difficult time. The facility is older but very clean and surrounded by beautiful trees and greenery. The staff is kind and knew the residents by name and seemed genuinely interested in the residents' care. There are private and semi-private rooms, a few different dining halls, and many activities. They take residents on outings to museums, residents, and shops. There are daily activities including Bingo, sing-alongs, and card games. It really has everything to offer. The caregivers are nice and communicative. The nurse is knowledgeable and diligent. Vika was a gem throughout this process. She was available nearly 24/7 to answer questions, coordinate furniture deliveries, and help with paperwork. Even after my Dad moved in, Vika stayed in touch and assisted to ensure my Dad got to do the things that were important to him. So far, we are impressed with the facility and staff! read more

One year ago, we helped my brother-in-law move into Grossmont Gardens Assisted Living. He had a studio room and it was very comfortable for him. His care was very supportive and with love. I appreciated the smiles I saw on all the employee's faces as we walked by and how they knew the names of their residents. The facilities were very well maintained. As a family member, we could ask for updates or assistance at any time and they were very accommodating. My brother-in-law was very happy living there. read more

My Aunt was recently admitted to Grossmont Gardens light memory care floor on Marengo. She also has Insulin Dependent Diabetes so finding the right place for her wasn't easy. So far, the entire experience has exceeded our expectations. From our interactions with Vika in Administration, to the care givers on the light memory care floor, everything has been excellent. The care givers all seem so compassionate and come across as loving what they do. This transition has been difficult for my Aunt, but in under 2 weeks she is beginning to settle in. The food is really decent. There are many activities. The facility is very nice. I like being able to sit outside on the patio with my Aunt and look out at the eucalyptus trees and the nice surroundings. Our family is very happy that we chose Grossmont Gardens. Gerald R. Grossmont Gardens Healthcare Center has been home for my mom for the past 9 months. I moved her here from Virginia after much deliberation knowing that a big move can be confusing and debilitating to a senior with significant dementia. Fortunately, the move was the best decision for her and our entire family. Even before she arrived, the administration and staff were helpful, supportive, educational and accommodating. However, nothing could have prepared us for the exceptional care, kindness and warmth we have experienced since she moved in. The friendly culture and professional caregiving in the Healthcare Center has helped her adjust and feel loved in a new environment at 94 years old. We are encouraged and welcomed in the independent living dining room and activities which has given us an additional layer of socialization and normalcy. Mom arrived with a stage 3 wound on her hip. Through consistent and diligent treatment, the wound has healed. Weekly visits from a wound care NP and excellent follow through from charge nurses and CNAs have resulted in positive outcomes. We feel very fortunate to be cared for by the folks at Grossmont Gardens Healthcare Center and are grateful for each of the housekeepers, dietary staff, CNAs, LVNs, Medical Records, Infection Control, DSD, Activities, SSD, DON and Administrator who go above and beyond every day. read more

I had the pleasure of spending midday with Vika Cecena, Sales Director, who provided me with a complete overview of the entire property. Vika was very candid and forthright, responding to all of my inquiries and concerns. She actually encouraged me to ask additional questions as adequate assurance of their competence and efficiency as a senior care community. Vika was very professional at all times while exuding an extremely personable quality. Every single person working there has gone above and beyond to help my father-in-law feel comfortable there, financially as well as physically and socially. Vika Ceceña has been a dream ally every step of the way. She is always quick to respond, even on her days off, and has brought us to tears with her kindness. We looked at four assisted living facilities for my mother; we chose Grossmont Gardens for - proximity to our home, cost, cleanliness of facility and the beautiful grounds. My mother was there for five months (she was actually able to move home, for now) and we visited several times per week. The staff is amazing, the facilities are very nice and they offer so much for the residents. We are 100% certain we made the right choice in choosing Grossmont Gardens, and have nothing but good words to say about the place. If my mother needs to go back into assisted living - we won't bother looking around, it will be Grossmont Gardens. I truly don't even know how to begin with this "review", and I needed time to grieve and process before I posted this. I went to surprise my stepfather on New Year's Day only to find him unconscious and injured from a fall on the floor in his studio apartment. I immediately called 911. His body temperature was 97°, he had an open wound on his cheek, and signs of muscle breakdown (rhabdo). The lead firefighter told me that my stepfather had probably been unattended for at least two days. The most heartbreaking part about this as he fought for his life for three weeks in the hospital, and did not survive. Grossmont Gardens tried to diffuse responsibility which I can get into even further. Grossmont Gardens had been purchased by a new owner during the time that my stepfather was there, and we noticed a massive change with the new ownership. They let go many employees including the recruiter that had been there decades. I filed an ombudsman report and a criminal complaint. I cannot tell you enough to stay away. read more

Moving my parents into assisted living. Although this honestly was not our first choice it actually ended up working out better for us. My dad needs a higher level of care and my mom is completely independent. This place was able to accommodate both and still keeps them together! 50 years strong!
