How does one begin?? This place is amazing! My momma had fallen and was no longer mobile and we got the most amazing call that said my momma could live at Mt. Miguel and we were thrilled. She did not get the chance to live in the independent living area as she was admitted to the healthcare center but she loved it. From that first Saturday night we were treated as family. It was still COVID and they had wonderful precautions that always made you feel safe. Momma immediately became part of the community She may not have been able to walk but she had everything else. She joined in the recreations from bingo to "21" to dominoes to singing and telling stories. Everyone knew her. She thrives on making people laugh and the entire staff loves her. Mt Miguel was a true gift to our family. From the CNA's to the kitchen staff to the recreational staff they always made momma feel great. A special shout out to Tom and Olivia who not only always made sure momma was good -they now have become our friends for life. We never wanted to have to admit momma anywhere but it eventually became too much for us to handle. Mt. Miguel saved our family and we will be forever grateful for the care, the love, the compassion and the excellent care she received until the end. I will recommend Mt. Miguel to everyone I know. I was a patient at this facility and was able to stay three days before leaving AMA(Against Medical Advice) due to mistreatment. I had hip surgery and was in extreme pain which required pain management every 6 hours as needed. However, what I did not know was that I would have to request it and there were two variations of the medications that were prescribed which I was not aware of because no one had told me of this until a particular night nurse did. So I had to set the alarm on my phone to remind me to call for medication at all hours of the day and night disturbing my roommate next to me. The other issue relating to this is the call light for the nurse. You push a button and apparently a light will illuminate outside in the hallway where a nurse would see it then respond and that's where the issue exists. There is no physical way to know if they have either seen the light or are simply ignoring it. In all Hospitals I've been in you actually have have someone who acknowledges your request for help through a speaker that is nurse help button so that you are assured that the request is heard. Maybe that's by design or intentional I do not know I can only guess. This leads me to a related issue with the individual patient room light. It is a chain that hangs more behind your head making it nearly impossible to reach especially when you're limited physically and there is master lighting switch that can turn the lights on and off at the entryway to the patient room that the nurses use because it's much easier than turning on and off the light at each bedside. The problem is when they turn it off they turn off the whole system and the patient can't turn on his light on or off and I have heard multiple nurses complain about this because patients constantly have to ask nurses to come in and turn the main light on so they can turn off and on their lights. This is so antiquated I can't even tell you. This is exactly what happened on my second night there when the CNA came in, without announcing that they were turning on the lights, and all of a sudden at 2:30 in the morning the lights were at full bright, waking all of us up. When she left, a light was left on so I hit the nurse call light and I don't know if they even saw it because several minutes later nothing. So I had to start yelling for a CNA and she came in yelling at me and calling me a crazy man because I was trying to get someone to come back in to turn the light off to get back to sleep.As a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 17 years at a large local hospital you always leave your patients room the way you found it especially at 2:30 in the morning. This is unacceptable in any institution nonetheless a nursing facility. So back to medications, now that I found out I have to request my medication for pain control I started getting an attitude from the medication nurse during the day to the point where she would come into my room, not say one word hand me a pill turn around and walk out. Making me feel like I was inconveniencing her, unacceptable. The second incident regarding medication was I requested my pain meds on schedule at 11:30am and had to call for my CNA three times over a period of one and a half hours before I finally got so fed up, I forced myself into a wheelchair and wheeled myself all the way to the nurses station to get their attention, and that's when I finally got the attention of the staff! This is a complete failure of leadership and patient care. It was at this point the decision was made that I needed to go, because if I stayed, I would have more of the same and no one in any condition. Should have to put up with what I had to put up with. It wasn't all entirely bad. There were a couple of folks I want to give credit to that were caring and compassionate. CNA's Natalie and Issac were outstanding and also the night Med nurse who I cannot remember her name but she was the one that told me everything I needed to know about what medication was ordered, and when I could have it when no one else did. Skilled Nursing Facility - This place does not care about their temporary patients. They ignored my Dad while staying there leaving him for hours on end. Plus, they would purposely leave the nurse call button out of his reach. After complaining to one of the higher up he was discharged the next day without a last day of coverage letter from the insurance company. They made the decision to release him even though he was not strong enough. If anything happens to him because of his early release they will be seeing a suit filed. read more

When my mom was to be discharged from the hospital, her caseworker recommended certain rehabilitation centers for PT, OT and speech. I looked on the Medicare, A Place for Mom and Yelp websites to see how these places were rated. Made appointments to do tours and the two of the highly rated centers were well below expectations. Thank goodness we toured Covenant Living! Their facility is clean, staff is kind and hard working. This goes from the administration to maintenance. All were so helpful and treated my mom with care and respect. I will forever be thankful for the therapists, nurses and CNAs. Today, I get to bring my mom home. read more

My mom had dementia and had a stroke and needed physical, occupational and speech therapy. I was very leery placing her in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) even though it was just for a few weeks. The only reasons I agreed was because she would be able to have all three therapies five days a week and if I brought her back home she'd have it two to three times a week at most with home health. I have a friend who takes complaints for the county on SNFs and she helped me find a facility. I had looked at a few close to my home that were maybes but after talking to her they were an absolute no. Covenant Living Mount Miguel was 50 minutes from my home but the facility had great reviews, was clean and the staff seemed very attentive. My mom had trouble swallowing after the stroke and could choke easily. She needed supervision when eating or drinking. I made sure to visit during the day and when I called her one evening at dinner time to see if she'd eaten her dinner she let me know that it was there but she hadn't eaten it. I asked if the nurse was there with her and she said no she just left the tray. I thought maybe it's not actually within her reach so I asked her to take a bite. She did and I could hear her start choking. Having dementia I knew she wouldn't remember to hit the nurse call button. I hung up and called the nurses station to get someone in there and three times it went to voicemail! I called my niece who lives 5 minutes away and she went to check on her. I was not happy about this as I had been assured she'd be supervised when eating and drinking. I met with the staff to establish times she'd be offered fluids when making medication rounds and was happy about the new plan. Unfortunately nobody followed it. My sister had went by after work on the one day I didn't go down to visit and found her shivering with a jacket on and running a fever of 103 degrees! They hadn't noticed. My mom's roommate said she'd been like that all day. She had developed pneumonia. They insisted they could treat her for it with the staff doctor. I noticed her breathing was a little labored and asked the CNA to check her oxygen saturation levels and she was at 88. She wasn't concerned at all! I let her know that at home she would have immediately been hooked up to her oxygen machine and I wanted that for her here and asked her to call the RN on duty. They were able to give her oxygen. I wasn't seeing her get any better and I felt she needed to be back in the hospital. She had pneumonia four years ago and she developed massive amounts of fluids around her lungs and I was worried that would happen again and I knew they would have no way of draining it. When I asked the staff to transfer her back to the hospital I was met with arguments on why she was fine and didn't need to be moved. They even put two different paramedics on the phone to try to talk me out if transferring her back to the hospital! I'm so thankful I followed my instincts because the ER doctor said she was in critical condition and needed to be in the hospital. I was shocked when the ER nurse was changing her and noticed she was completely raw from a diaper rash and had bed sores! All this took place in under nine days of being at this facility. My mom continued to go down and she ended up passing away. I'll never forgive myself for taking her to this place! read more

As I start these I'm pretty much upset , disappointed with these place ( skilled nursing place) my mother in law was there for 2 1/2 wks and that was enough for her. Her first roommate was a bit nosy , my mother in law was by the window and she wanted to dim down the shades but the lady said no ‍ my mother in law had surgery on her eyes and the lights hurted her, she let it go. But every time the therapy came or someone to talk to her that lady always put her cent in ‍‍ when her son and I went she was beening nosy with me I completely ignored her ( she stayed quiet afterwards) her son didn't like that and he spoke to the nurse and she( my mother in law ) was moved... during the move my mother in laws cream went missing ( they replace it) my mother in law wanted to let it be but nope they have to be hell accountable snd I reported... the lady that help didn't let my mother in law go back and that she had gotten everything ( yea right she left a few thing there that I got when I went the next day ) everything was fine for a few days until one evening my mother in law put the light for her new roommate cause she was in pain and that lady didn't have the button close, they came but they never turn off the button.. a cna had the nervy to shake my mother in law out of her sleep ( 3:00 in the morning) she didn't tap She literally shook her feet ( which hurted ) my mother in law asked her ( what's going on) the cna walked away but came back and said ( you called me ) my mother in law said ( no I didn't ) the cna said ( your light was on) my mother in law at these time was mad( you guys don't turn them off when you came last night) then as the day went on the roommate was not doing well ( she had fallen and I guess she had a bad injury) when my mother in law avocation for her ( she was in pain ) some cna made a jester " oh she's not all there" wow not cool ( what if at that time her relatives came in and seen that ? ) they left the curtain open for my mother in law to keep a eye on her ( wow excuse me, my mother in law an't no one caregiver ) that morning my mother in law coming back from therapy she had her lunch and she went to brush her teeth her brush went missing she asked her cna she help my mother in law look in her room ( how would it be in her room when in that morning it was in the bathroom????) I could go on and on but I do want to address that most of the breakfast lunch or dinners here are not too good too many empty calories , too much sugar when my mother in law declined her diner ( one evening) the cna had the nerve to say " your not in a restaurant " wow what a nerve I was glad the day came for my mother in law to come home, home is a lot better then there I did my research before my mother in law was discharged from the hospital and seriously I thought these place was a nice place ( it reminded me of the building of San Diego state) looks could be deceiving...never again will I bring anyone here, nope read more

We have lived in our Independent living apartment for 9 months- We moved here to downsize and simplify our lifestyle. Moving in ...you have choice of painting, decor, kitchen cabinets and flooring of carpet or hardwood..etc and compact washer and dryer.. Our apartment has a door opening to a full patio on the living room side and a smaller patio opposite the second bedroom-- allows for air flow through the apartment- Neighbors are friendly and very interesting couples.. Although we still eat in our apartment on patio overlooking Sweetwater Reservoir - A dining room available - other option is the Bistro for casual eating next to the swimming pool. Good food choices too. Lots of various activities, gym, hair salon, massage, RN on site during the day for us.. and a first-class wood shop for my husband...Staff from weekly maids to lawn/ maintence staff,,is professional and friendly. Easy to call someone on-site to fix a leaky faucet or any other repairs... I love to walk next to our pond with waterfalls and around the campus with lush vegetation ( fed by well water).. Staff always open to resident's interests and suggestions. Feels like I am on vacation in an all-inclusive resort or cruise ship.. We love the quiet, peaceful home away from our previous congested, noisy city life.. yet within a mile or so we have shopping mall etc.. I feel safe here knowing if we have a health crisis there is assisted living and health care nursing home on-site.. read more

This is the BEST Skilled Nursing Home in San Diego by far! My 92-year-old mother has been here 5 times now for rehab after various illnesses & 1 fall. This place is extremely clean & the Staff goes beyond & above for my mom, who is no walk-in-the-park to take care of, yet they do a GREAT JOB with her! I have gotten to know the entire staff & I am amazed at the High Quality of people at this place. Elizabeth, director of Nursing, hires only the Best of people & it shows in the care that my mother receives here. Josie, CNA is so loving & caring & what a hard worker. Lauren, the dietician helps with delicious meals. When my mom comes home, she always misses the food she got there & so do I. I try to get there at mealtime so I can eat her leftovers, YES, the food is that good! Paula, PT Director is amazing. She gets my mom up & going again, getting her to walk again & go up & down steps, she is amazing - such determination to succeed! Olivia is my mom's social worker & arranges everything for my mom. She is so easy to work with & strives to give us perfection in everything she does! And Edwin, Registered Nurse, is the BEST! Every time I call to check on my mom, Edwin gives me an update on her & he always knows exactly what is going with her. I have instructed Sharp Memorial Hospital to only send my mom Covenant Living at Mount Miguel after her hospital stays & when I go & visit her AT Covenant, it is like coming home again, I always look for the people I know & give them a big hug - THANK GOD FOR COVENANT LIVING, I JUST LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! read more

Faculty review: nice grounds, clean and secure. While staff were kind ( more staff always a A+) and need better training. My loved one fell on day 1! They failed to put an alarm on the wheelchair! With so much Alzheimer's affecting the senior population more "memory care" is also an area of approvement! Dietary needs an upgrade. Food is ok. However I believe they give way too many carbs for elderly. My loved one was started on Insulin due to high high sugars which was not something my loved one was on before and after when taken home! Believe it or not I'd rate this facility better than the rest but still needs much improvement to go from A Ok to Great! read more

The best present you can give your children while you can is to make the decisions for the time when you can't. In this decision, it is to pay for them upfront or have the arrangements already made to pay for them. Some people will need the assistance of senior care facilities and if you wait until you absolutely need that kind of care your options become very limited and very expensive. Facilities that have independent living, assisted living, full care, and memory care. Facilities that are committed to caring for you for the rest of your life, add a level of comfort for both you and your children. In my opinion, a senior living community with 3 levels of care is the best for a more dignified way of living your final years. The main things you give up when you move to a senior living community are; home maintenance, garden maintenance, and mortgages. You gain a new set of friends but you can still maintain your previous groups of friends. Some facilities have day trips and activities for your enjoyment. By doing this and discussing it with your children they will know what YOU want. The Sales group is all about information, I never felt pressured and they help guide us through this process in such a kind and loving way. The dining staff, facilities, security, and the resident support staff are absolutely amazing and like family. I can not stress enough to plan early and enjoy the easy way of life in this active and safe community. read more

This is where my grandparents retired, and it's a GREAT place. The grounds are beautiful; it's positioned right at the edge of the Sweetwater reservoir, so has some beautiful views of the reservoir and the mountains behind it. There are lots of birds in the area as well. The landscaping is very well maintained, with lots of grassy areas, trees, and flower beds. There are even fruit trees and a rose garden that my Grandpa tended to. A full list of the amenities can be found on their website, but there is a workout center, a pool and Jacuzzi, tennis courts, activity centers, a chapel, a dining hall, and a manmade lake with koi and ducks and an outdoor seating/grilling area for family events. There are independent living facilities, assisted living, and skilled nursing living arrangements. In my experience, the staff is friendly and helpful, though the cleaning lady isn't always very thorough! Overall, this is a great place. I'm not very familiar with the requirements and cost, but I know that it's a non-profit, is a BBB business, and is a ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church. It's mostly a Christian community, and is an excellent consideration for people of faith who want to retire in a community of like-minded residents and friends. read more

I am writing about the Skilled Nursing Facility--Independent Living may be different although I did have people living there ask me to wheel them up the ramp so they get in (it was too steep for them to do it themselves). I am giving them a two because a few of the staff were really nice and caring. Some of the food is okay but the strawberries were super sour and the applesauce smelled metallic. It usually is not in small pieces either so it is hard for them to eat it. I went almost everyday to find: * My mom in clothes that weren't hers *Unbathed--for over five days. (I was told she would get a shower every other day. I finally gave her all her showers myself). Their excuse? She didn't want one. * Elusive doctor--never saw him (but he did state my mom has dentures, [which is untrue] ). * I had to get the urine sample. When I told them I had to leave and to use a catheter the witchy head nurse told me to come back because my mom didn't like it (What?). * It costs over a $100.00 more a day more than other skilled nursing facilities ($373 for a shared room). *Told my mom to use the button--she has DEMENTIA! She doesn't remember! I did push it once and no one came for twenty minutes. *One nasty nurse was yelling at a patient to take her medicine--her attitude was egregious. I worry for those who don't have an advocate. It is a "pass the buck" kind of place. They wanted me to take her to her primary care doctor instead of doing it there; I asked for help and they sent me around to another person. They say they need to follow federal and state rules but rules state she needs a shower and I don't think Medicare would be to happy to find out I had to get the urine sample. They had three days! My parents moved here. I live far away and they have given me peace of mind. When I call to inquire about something, they never make me feel like I am a nuisance or asking a dumb question. On several occasions, I have asked a health question and they have offered to go check on them. Not only do they check but they have called me back to update me. This place would get zero stars if I could give it that. We were in need of an immediate skilled nursing facility for my dad who was being discharged from the hospital. This was during Covid times so we were unable to tour the facility inside. It seemed like a good fit after we heard the sales pitch. We elected to have him go here. My dad was experiencing cognitive impairment so I had to advocate my way in for visits. They didn't like that I was there 3 days a week because I called them out on everything they did wrong. Long story short they nearly killed my dad. He developed bed sores from not being moved or turned. He went from 133 pounds to 105 pounds because they allowed the speech therapist, non medical professional, to determine he needed a purée diet. He didn't like it and wouldn't eat it. She said he had difficulty swallowing. No, he was a slow eater and they lacked the patience to ensure proper nutrition. Last, he developed a bladder infection from his foley. When I arrived one day, the bag was full of blood. It took almost two days to get him medication when I finally said I wasn't leaving until he had medication. They couldn't get in touch with a doctor! They talked with me about this after and warned me I wouldn't be allowed to stay if I didn't follow procedure. Then they scheduled discharge planning and determined he wasn't a fit for memory care. He had dementia! After all this the doctor called to tell me to think about hospice. Discharge planning was a nightmare and I was mostly on my own to figure everything out. Determine placement, get medical equipment, and find the pharmacy. They discharged him with no medications either! Long story short my dad is in a board and care. He started regular meals the day he arrived. Had his foley removed. Gained back all of his weight. Bed sores healed. Talks word salad all day! Laughs, and is happy! He's not on his death bed which is where this place put him. By the way I'm a Social Worker and I've never witnessed such a lack of professionalism and lack of care and empathy. This place should not have a license to care for the elderly. Our most vulnerable are taken advantage of and they are ripping Medicare off! They hire people straight out of CNA school and that's it. No doctors, no nurses in the day to day. They do their rounds and are absent. Hope this helps another family! I sat on this for 9 months before I posted and still feel the same. Do your research and if you can, find a private board and care home where they care about their patients. read more

Fancy new buildings and great if your loved one is healthy, but a terrible place for those suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's. The staff have no idea how to deal with normal memory impairment symptoms. They will ignore and neglect your loved one and/or treat your loved one like a bad child for having symptoms of their disease. Find a facility that specializes in memory care before you make the same mistake we did. read more

This is a despicable, filthy, disease ridden facility that preys on the religious and vulnerable. Their poorly managed medical facility gave our family Norwegian scabbies and kept it a secret so we all got them. They treated our loved one in secret without notifying us of the obvious contagious risk and we have all been battling severe issues as a result of their malpractice for more then 4 months. What can I say except this is the best, friendliest, compassionate, loving ,Christian, trustworthy, communicating. Community there is around. They not only took care of my parents at all the facilities, but they took care of us as their own family. I could not recommend a better place. I Vet all the San Diego Facilities before we moved my parents here and I was never let down. My young girls were addressed by name and treated like princesses, my parents, family and I were treated like royalty. When my parents passed away one a year and a half ago and the other in June, they went out of their way to make sure we could be with them 24/7 my fathers dieing wish was to hold our hands and they made sure my family was there to fulfill it. The dining area is the worst place to work at. Management is very unfair. Heidi who is in charge of the dining staff (servers) definetly goes by favoritism. She's very close to one of the servers and for that I've experienced that server can lack in their work, show up late, and call out a lot without having any discipline action towards them; if anyone else were to do what that server does then she takes action. Chelsea who is the director of dining was very hostile to work with. She would threaten to call the cops and have us arrested, and also threatens to fire people for no reason. She also uses people's personal conversations that were said in private and brings it up to everyone during briefing. She also should never have been given that position in the first place. She got it because she's worked there for 3 years but I think it takes more than that to have the job she got. She doesn't qualify to be in that position at all and is a terrible boss. But I guess if you base it off of kissing corporates ass then that's the only way she qualifies. Totally fake. read more

We have to work with many of these facilities on a regular basis and Mount Miguel is on a different level. It is clean, not overcrowded, and the staff is extremely friendly. Mount Miguel is a wonderful place. My Mother stayed in the Skilled Nursing Facility for about a month after recovering from knee surgery and a double fracture. The staff was so amazing here. They are all really caring people, everyone from the CNAs to the RNs to the PTs and OTs, the cleaning staff and the cooks. The food is great btw. The grounds are just beautiful. I was so happy having my Mother here. I knew she received excellent care and she was very happy with the place. I highly recommend it. The independent living facility is also very nice. read more

Everything is wonderful at this facility UNTIL your loved one has issues or acts up Dementia). Then they get you out of there and there is no going back. That happened to my mother a few years ago. I tried talking to the staff, they were polite but absolutely would not work with me to get my mom back in there which is where she wanted to be. I will never go there or send a loved one there...it' fine if you don't develop mental issues. read more

The residents here are so friendly and the setting seems to be so peaceful much like living on a golf course rolling greens with 32 acres of well-maintained lawn and pond with koi and a deck for outside activities (bands and such). Plus the level of care that you would need for any setback in life that could occur at any time. Assisted living through skilled nursing and full staffing to take care of medical needs. We also enjoy the finest meals and the finest room plans available anywhere. We have lived here for the past 2 years and 9 months, moved here from Fontana and we love it here. Many of the residents have been here much longer and it is not uncommon to hear of someone having been here for over 20 years. I invite you to give MMCV a call and try our village on for a good fit.
