Filete with rice and baked potato

I've been to El Chamizal a number of times over the past couple of years, and have always enjoyed it. The interior is spacious, with a nice ambience and cheerful vibe. We've always been there for meetings with several friends, and have always received good service. The fish "filete" plate is good---really enjoyed it! Fairly large portion, with rice and baked potato. All good. I've also had the enchilada plate with rice, beans and topped with sour cream. Very flavorful with a delicious green sauce, and I would order again. El Chamizal is located in the heart of downtown Huntington Park (on Pacific and Florence). In front of the restaurant, there are metered parking spaces. But behind the restaurant is a parking lot where you can park for free---this is where I usually park.

Over $30 for this, everything lacked flavor and the meat wasn't even ranchera.

Came here on Saturday around 2pm. Surprisingly it was not busy or crowded. Many years ago this use to be a good spot, good food and always busy. Chips and salsa were ok. Overpriced for the quality of food I received. I had paid over $30 for a sad looking, flavorless parillada. Only reason they get 2 stars is for their customer service with their attentive waiters. Immediately after on the drive home I started getting really bad stomach cramps and the intense urge to use the bathroom. Barely made it home! Don't plan on ever coming back.

When I first walked in to this business, I could immediately tell I was out of place. Everything is in Spanish, and most of the staff do not speak English. Thankfully my date spoke Spanish as her first language, but even she had trouble reading the menu that was all-Spanish. All of the drinks they served were made with well liquor, so I lost my desire to drink more after my first beverage. The presentation looks really pleasant, but the flavor of the drinks has that yucky, low-quality well liquor flavor. The staff were all really kind despite my inability to speak fluent Spanish. However, once the live band came on it was so loud that I couldn't have any conversations with my date. My tinnitus was triggered pretty bad by the excessive volume of the band, and it was ultimately an uncomfortable listening experience. I must say that the food would be the sole reason I ever return here, and it was so good that I will actually be returning here in the future when I feel like some bomb Mexican food. Everything was brimming with flavor, and the presentation was on point. If all you go for is the meal, you won't be disappointed. Both myself and my date suffered stomach aches shortly after eating here, so be aware that quality and/or cleanliness may be a concern.

So good! Portion sizes are massive! They have live music playing and the servers were incredibly nice. Service and food came out fast as well

I have been to this restaurant many times. The service is always good. They are attentive. On Monday November 20, 2023 at around 5:45pm we visited this location. We ordered our favorites as always. Something seemed off in the restaurant. Like the lighting was turned off inside. It was quiet when normally it's full for dinner time. They seemed short staffed. Food arrived and it tasted great. We shared food and took some to go due to portions being so big. It was a total of $74.76 and service was good. Later on that night all three of us that consumed the food began throwing up and got diarrhea. We got food poisoning. Today is day #3 of misery. Probably won't be visiting this spot again on a Monday or any time soon.

The worst experience don't eat here never, today the 01/29/2022 came to have a good time with my family and had order a Mazatlan parrillada when they serve the food in my table it was cold I asked the server that my food was cold I give him to touch the shrimps he said he was going to asked the cook why my food was serve cold after some minutes he comes back with my food my surprise was that they serve the same plate and it was still cold instead of giving me new food they had re-heated the same plate, never coming back here terrible food & service.

I was having lunch with a friend and trying to find a place between us. He is in Lincoln Heights and I was at my boyfriend's in Culver City. So Huntington Park seemed like a middle ground. I looked for a place and found El Chamizal. I picked it mainly because I wanted table service and the other photos looked good. I was running about 5 minutes late and my friend had finished the chips & salsa and said, "If the salsa is any indication of how the food will be, it's going to be great!" We both ordered The Molcajete Mixto: Prawn, chicken breast, carne asada, cheese, tomato, molcajete sauce, and avocado. It came with 3 fresh-made tortillas, for $26.95. I ordered the lemonade, which was a bit too sour and they didn't have any limes or lemons for my food, which would normally have me give them four stars but the food was really good. The music was just the right volume to sing a long and still have a conversation, the server, Judith, was nice and knew exactly when to approach and when to give us our moment to visit. I plan on taking other folks there.

It's changed a lot since Covid. I used to eat and hang out but it's changed a lot. Food has gone down. The service is good.

For us, that's El Ranchito in Huntington Park. It's a family-owned, authentic Mexican restaurant that has had the community on its back for the last 6 decades. They hand-make the tortillas right in front of you, serve up fresh chunky guac, and make their iconic Mama Avila's soup fresh daily. It's rare that a soup has me hitting a stank face, but here we are. The Camarones al mojo de ajo is a can't miss appetizer. It's succulent shrimp sauteed in butter and fresh garlic, made to be eaten with the piping hot homemade tortillas. They have all the traditional Mexican dishes, my brothers go to is the chile relleno, but I always just run the fajitas. I'm sure I'll get clowned for this, but nothing heals my trauma and existential dread like a plate of sizzling fajitas. My pops has worked in the area for longer than I've been alive, so El Ranchito has seen every iteration of me, and of my family. For that, I am grateful. I'll be coming here until the wheels fall off. EL RANCHITO ALL STARS!!! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

My dad ordered the Ceviche Nayarit, I ordered the Enchiladas La Casita Mexicana and my wife ordered the Enchiladas Tres Moles. The ceviche tasted fresh, but not really my favorite dish were had. I would say the Enchiladas Tres Moles was my favorite dish we picked. My only problem with that dish was that I wanted more. The plate they served it on made the 3 Enchiladas look small. Customer service was great. Food was great. The interior/exterior was really nice. If you have dogs the patio section in the back is where you'll want to eat from. Great experience. I'd come here again.

I forgot exactly what I had, I want to say it was bistec ranchero or something like that. it was good, nothing bad, but also felt average. They served us chips with mole on top and I was like, why did they pour mole all over, bring a little bucket of mole and let me dip it on the side. That's what a good Christian would do, but no, they went with an anti-Christian practice here, communist almost. don't assume I want everything with mole. I would have been ok with it if the mole had been bomb ass good, but it was ok. I had heard this place used original Oaxacan mole or something so I was hyped. My wife had some eggs with whatever the heck a Filipino woman orders at a Mexican place and she's was fine. I feel bad about this review, maybe this place is a victim of its former reputation, and I was expecting very good Mexican food and all I got was OK Mexican food. Also, for a true Mexican spot, you need to have café Mexicano, with canelita and the waiter told me they didn't have any. How can this be? I do not approve. Maybe if you are white or non-Mexican or a fake Mexican, I think you would have a different opinion of this place, you might think is great, just like El Torito is. Am I confusing this place with some other restaurant because the place I heard of was in Bell and the cooks/chefs were this renowned chefs and I don't think that's the case here or now. For sure, this place is not bad and I don't think you will get bad food, it was just underwhelming.
