This post is long overdue! We used Ramey Roofing about a year ago on our house in Westchester. The house needed 3 layers of shingles removed and new plywood in about 70% of the roof. What I appreciated the most about Ramey Roofing was that they were extremely honest with the quote. We had other roofers stop by that didnt even go up on the roof, and gave us quotes to add plywood on 100% of the house, even though 30% of it didn't need it (where our addition was). When the crew was here, they were extremely professional and did a great job cleaning up. Really a class act. Would highly recommend them! read more

Good work, good price from a family owned roofing company I initially had Jon come out and give us a bid on replacing the roof about 3 years ago. He struck me as very honest because he let us know that we could probably just do a repair and get a few more years out of the existing roof. It would have been easy for him to sell us a new roof then but he didn't. We did a patch and waited Recently we had another leak and decided it was time to replace. We had them do a full tear off and re-roof of our 67 year original beach cottage and it went well. Their bid was competitive if not a bit lower than a few others that we got. The tear off was completed in a day and the did a great job of cleaning up after what I'm sure was a huge mess. We had quite a bit of wood from the original 67 year old roof that need to be replaced and they took care of that as well at an additional but reasonable cost. The new shingles went on quickly as well only held up by getting the city inspector on site. There were a few small problems with some nails that came through the eaves but Jon came out and took care of that with his son and painted over the problems. All in all I'm happy and would use Ramey Roofing again. read more

Attention to detail from beginning to end! We needed to replace our roof and interviewed 3 different roofing companies. When the representative of Ramey Roofing showed up, we were pleased and surprised to find out he was the owner of the company - Jon Ramey. He sat down with us, explained our options, reviewed his pricing, explained what might cause the quote to increase, and said he would confirm the quote in writing to us via email that same evening which he did. His price was competitive with the other quotes we received but the fact that the owner took the time to sit down with a prospective client and walk us through the entire process and then follow it up with a detailed quote the same day, convinced us to select his company. His team showed up the first day at 8:00am and Jon was there to give initial direction and also answer any questions we might have. His team was amazing! They showed up on time, had an amazing attitude, and put in a full day's work. Another impressive detail is that after work each day, his team would clean the entire area to insure there was no roofing materials, nails, etc. left in the yard or walk areas. They finished the job in 3 days, exactly what Jon had estimated. The last day, after the workers had left, I heard a ladder being setup outside. I went outside to see if they had forgotten something and it is Jon Ramey inspecting the finished work done by his team - this guy really cares about the service he is providing to his clients. We received his bill after completion of the work and it was in line with what he had estimated - no hidden or unexpected charges and the additional woodwork required was well within expectations. A couple years ago John Ramey came out and gave us an estimate on our 1000 sq ft roof. He's a long time local contractor. He had tile samples and suggested a certain one that was the color we wanted and was a new reflective material. Two guys arrived on time and did the stripping of the thred old layers. The next day three other guys arrived and checked all the wood and replaced what needed replacing. The next day the roofing materials truck arrived early and they unloaded materials onto the roof and four guys started roofing. They arrived the second and third days and finished the job. They did the garage in the rear of the property too. Every thing was itemized and John arranged for the permit and inspection which was completed in two separate visits. John was responsive and visited our house everyday to make sure it was getting completed onetime. The workers are kept busy by Ramey Roofing but I never knew there were specialists who do one aspect of the work. I'd use them again and in fact we used him on my in-laws house. I was also very pleased with the reasonable price. read more

I don't usually write negative reviews but...sadly, I must! First off, Ramey roofing was hired by our HOA, and Jon, the owner, sold them on re-roofing the units before they needed to have a new roof. According to another very reputable company, the roof had at least three more years of life in it and there was no real urgency to replace it right away. Secondly, while the roofing work was being done I had to literally constantly clear off our driveways of hundreds of nails left behind, to prevent us all from puncturing our tires. Thirdly, after starting their work, we were made aware that for some reason Ramey didn't include all the facia repair into his bid, and now we had to pay extra $1600 on top of the $3500 which was already paid specifically for that...just to do the rest. I found this way of doing business completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Thirdly, we had two chimneys between three units and only one of them was actually done (there was some trim that was to be replaced because of the dry rot and was totally missed). Because none of us could see that side of the chimney from the ground vantage point, it wasn't noticed until a couple of month later when we were painting the building. When we contacted Ramey to come back and fix this somewhat minor thing that was left behind, we never even got a reply. Based on all the issues described above, I would never recommend this roofing company to anyone. read more

Do not use Ramey Roofing. I have been going back and forth for weeks with them. They put on a roof for us in 2006 and now needed a few minor repairs. Jon came out said he would give estimate, had to call nonstop for weeks, then Friday they were supposed to come and fix it, nobody showed up and I stayed home all day, took a day off work. I have used Ramey Roofing for roof repairs and replacement for over 20 years. They replaced the roof at our rental house 15 years ago, and we have not experienced any problems. I recently decided to have them replace the roof at my residence. The job was complex due to extensive termite damage to the plywood and supporting structure. Basically it had to be replaced before the new roof could be installed. The work was skillfully completed and the final result was quite pleasing. The workers showed up on time. Our home has an extremely steep roof (40 degrees). Because of this it took a lot of extra time and effort to take off the old shingles and install the new ones. Several years ago I hired Ramey Roofing to re-roof my house prior to installing a solar voltaic. During the installation a building inspector happened to drive by and asked to see the permit. There wasn't one. The inspector said that he could shut the job down, but agreed to allow Jon Ramey to clear up the matter that day. Mr. Ramey said he would do so and the work continued. However ... a few years later I was having some remodeling done that required a permit. When the contractor went to pull the permit, he was told that the permit wouldn't be issued until the delinquent fine -- for the roofing permit -- was paid. In other words, Jon Ramey never paid the fine for not having obtained a permit for the roofing job. I HAD TO PAY $600.00 in order to clear the books. Furthermore, when I confronted Ramey (by telephone), he asserted that I had told them to proceed with the roofing without a permit. This is absolutely false. I never requested or even suggested such a thing. And even if I had, Ramey should have known that it would have been illegal and should have refused to do the job. I have not complaint with the quality of the work. However, Ramey's cutting corners on the permitting cost me an additional $600.00 on my next job and, moreover, delayed the remodeling by almost a week. I strongly recommend against hiring Ramey Roofing. read more

I have used Ramey Roofing for two jobs. They were fantastic on both... and one was a two and a half story mansard rood that had never been re-roofed from the day it was built, in 1936. They also came recommended as one of several roofers that I interviewed as recommended by the roofing supply company . In additiion, I even went and not only looked at one of their larger jobs, but was able to ask one of the condo owners about their experience and again, they were highly recommended, saying that they not only did a very professional job, but left everything very clean each day. I can also say that I had a small leak, or so I thought, and Jon and his brother came out not once but twice and checked. Stay far away from this company!!! Jon Ramey ripped me off for approx. $3000 last year. A couple years ago I hired Jon Ramey to install a new roof due to a few leaks. His company installed an entire new roof (including an additional $400 for a cricket). My new roof NEVER stopped leaking. Every time it rained the roof would leak again. I would call Ramey to come fix leak. He would send someone out. The guy would go up on roof for about 5 minutes and tell me it was fixed. Sure enough when it rained again the roof would leak again...When I sold the house last year I had to leave $5000 in escrow for Ramey to come out and fix the roof AGAIN in order to sell the house. He billed escrow(me) almost $3000. I would never use these guys again. Don't trust them!! read more

We used Ramey Roofing when we purchased our home in 2003 based on a recommendation from our realtor, Lynn O'Neil. We bought our house as-is and the roof was shot with over 20 leaks. We needed to have three levels of roof removed including a rock and tar roof. Ramey's team was quick and professional and fairly priced and our new roof looked beautiful. We used Ramey again when we removed our chimney and the job was quick and very inexpensive. We used Ramey again when we remodeled in 2009 and his team flawlessly matched the addition to the existing roof. We have had three positive experiences with this company and we have referred Ramey to lots of friends. The team is friendly and all of the employees are covered by insurance which is a big plus when people are working on your roof! I'm recommending them to another friend today. read more

Several years ago they did a small job and I believe that they significantly overcharged me. I bought a house that had a new roof, the previous company forgot to do a small finishing component. When it was brought to my attention, instead of contacting the first roofing company and dealing with the likely delays of fitting into their schedule, I opted to just get the job done. It was recommended that I contact Ramey roofing and I did. I was charged close to $500 for about 15 minutes of work by one of their employees. No heavy equipment or hot tar was used. The guy climbed onto the roof and came down 15 minutes later saying that the job was done. I believe that I was taken advantage of, my fault of course for not contacting the 1st company or shopping around, but this ultimately reflects on Ramey's integrity. As a result I do not trust these guys and do not recommend them. read more

I was referred to Jon Ramey at Ramey Roofing by a neighbor. I always try to get referrals for any work I have done on the house and this was a good referral. Jon gave me the best bid on the roof and the work was well done. Jon showed up to every appointment on time and got the job done in a timely manner. Throughout the process he let me know what to expect each step of the way. When he came to bid the job he checked thoroughly including the garage to make sure that nothing could be damaged during the work. When I asked about wood replacement he told me what the average replacement was for a house my size so I was not surprised when he told me how much they actually had to replace. When I asked for extras that he hadn't initially quoted he provided reasonable prices for whatever I asked for -an extra roof vent and ridge vent over the garage. He also took care of the permit so that I didn't have to deal with that. When they left I didn't see any debris from the job - everything was cleaned up. All of the work they did looks great, and of course, nothing leaked during the recent downpour. I highly recommend Jon and his crew. read more

Jon was great to work with. Very responsive and easy to schedule. I looked around for a few weeks and got a couple of different quotes and Jon was by far the best price for the same work and easily quoted the quickest completion time. He first came over to give an estimate. The estimate was thorough and he held to the estimate exactly. My roof was just over 2100 sq/ft. Him and his crew had the roof completely ripped out and the rotting wood replaced on the first day. The inspector came the second day, and the third day the entire roof was put back on. Very quick and efficient. After tearing down my old roof, we had to replace a lot more wood than I was expecting. Jon worked with us and gave us a discount for all the wood he had to replace. When the inspector came out, he insisted on adding two more attic vents and an extra layer of felt paper. Jon gave me the attic vents at cost and the extra layer of felt paper for free. After the job was completed, the area around the house was completely clean up. You couldn't tell at all that the roof was just replaced. Jon was a pleasure to work with and extremely fair. These guys were completely unprofessional. I first called them and left a message. No one called me back. I called again and spoke to Jon who said he just arrived at LAX and he would call me back. After a week, I called him back. I set up an appointment for him to come out to look at our damaged skylight. His brother arrived late. As I had to leave to pick up my kids, he said he would take a look and would call me with an estimate. A few days passed, no call. I called them back about 3 trimes asking for the estimate. They did not even have the courtesy of calling me back to either give me the estimate, or tell me that they couldn't replace my skylight. Don't waste your time calling these guys. (The brother told me that they both live in Idaho and return to LA for jobs about once a week. Perhaps that is why they don't really care about their roofing business.) Jon Ramey did everything he could to work us into his schedule while accommodating our changing construction schedule. Jon's dedication included Jon and his crew working late on a Saturday installing the underlayment to make sure we were ready for the rain. Also, he was right -- the upgraded underlayment he recommended held up perfectly -- not one leak during those heavy early January storms. Now all the shingles (all 4,800 square feet of them -- CertainTeed Presidential) have been installed. The roof looks and performs amazing, the quality of work and professionalism of his crew and Steve, his foreman, couldn't be beat.
