As much as I like Japanese food, I'll have to say I'm a rookie when it comes to Ramen. That said, even given my limited experience, I'll say that the Ramen here is a no-nonsense, filling dish for a very reasonable price. The Kura Ramen has just the right flavor of garlic in it. The Aka Ramen, touted as their spicy variety, has a little kick to it. Both are seasoned just enough to bring the dish to life, neither overpowering the palate nor scalding the tongue in heat. Dishes were served within 8 minutes during the office lunch rush the first time I ate here, and very snappily within 5 minutes during the lower-traffic dinner time. All in all, this establishment offers no-nonsense, affordable Ramen--perfect for the Filipino Salaryman.

Slurp a bowl of ramen at this Japanese noodle house and leave the turbulent city behind - even if it's all just in your mind. Hidden at the third level of RCBC Plaza in Makati, this small restaurant has all the appearance and ambiance of a laid-back ramen shop in Japan. Ramen Kuroda basically serves only three types of ramen. The name of each variant appears to be based on the type of stock used. Shiro for white miso, Kuro for black, and Aka for the spicy broth. Each bowl of ramen has one slice of braised pork and half a piece of boiled egg. For more slices of the braised pork, you can choose the Chashumen class derived from the basic ramen bowls. Being a small eater, my wife went for the Shiro Ramen (PHP 180.00), while I picked the Aka Chashumen (PHP 230.00) so I'd have a spicy stock and more meat. Both of us have only one thing to say about Ramen Kuroda. They have the most full-flavored ramen broth that we have ever tasted. Each slurp was actually soothing - transporting us away from a busy Makati day. We've been to a lot of ramen houses here in the Metro but Ramen Kuroda instantly jumped to the top of our list. The place has a no-frills mood, but the ramen is delicious. And for the quality of their food, their prices may well be considered affordable, too.

This ramen is in RCBC. Before you can get a seat, you have to order first. As I can remember, you only have 6 choices. 3 for not spicy and 3 for spicy. The ambiance was a bit more of a fast food. The ramen was good I like the thickness of the noodle and the soup. For me, it was just right. It would have been better if there was a nice hot cup of tea.

Aka Ramen with Tonkatsu bento for only 360 pesos. For only 180pesos ramen you will get more than your money's worth. This Ramen is better than the one I've tried in Narita Airport.

Kuro Ramen for my dinner. First time to try this one since I always buy the spicy Aka Ramen. I liked both.

It doesn't have the international recognition of Ippudo or Santouka or the creativity of Nagi, but the ramen here feels as though someone is treating you for a nice dinner at home. There are only three flavors available of the ramen, the shiro (classic), kuro (garlic), and aka (spicy). I've had both the kuro and aka, and I can say that they are extremely satisfying. Neither the garlic nor the spice was too overpowering. The broth was also extremely well-balanced. Not too fatty but still smooth enough to make you want to slurp the bowl once you've finished. The pork cuts weren't as tender as I've had at other places, but still very well done. The tamago was also well done. Love the runniness! But what puts this place over the edge into 5-star territory is the price. You can get a super filling bowl of ramen here for only 230 pesos! And that's for the larger size! I wager that's basically half of what you'd pay at the more upscale mall places for nearly the same quality. I was also able to try one of their sets featuring a bowl of ramen of your choosing, their gyudon rice don on the side and a bowl of fresh fruits for only 360 pesos. I was stuffed after. So so worth it. The gyoza was also really well made, and a steal for only 100 pesos. The staff here is always super attentive and accommodating, even when we've come in with a larger group, and they do accept all major credit cards, which is a huge plus for me. Definitely worth a try. I don't have to venture out to the more upscale parts of the Metro to enjoy a well-curated bowl of ramen anymore!

So no taking home leftovers but you can do frozen ramen take out where they also have instructions on how to make it. We had the tantanmen ramen with extra charsiu and egg and it was phenomenal. No wonder they don't have you take it home. We also ordered gyoza which was a little too oily for me and also their Japanese fried rice and chicken karaage now the chicken was great but the rice was passable at best. The rice tasted like they old rice which would be perfect for your usual fried rice as that's what I use but this was too brittle. I paired the chicken with an Asahi beer which hit the spot perfectly. All in all I would say reserve seats first so you don't have to wait long. They make you order and pay ahead of time before eating which is worth noting. Oh and there don't have a lot of seating capability.

My dad's relatives are somewhat aware, so they suggested we go here for lunch. I was bummed because of the lack of local eateries we've been to so far (which will be a recurring pattern for the rest of our time here). And Ippudo already has locations back in the States. But I was still interested in going since I didn't get the opportunity to go during my Japan trip last year. You will find the restaurant on the second floor of Greenbelt 5, a shopping mall in Makati. Next to Chili's, which I'm sure is a familiar name for everyone. There was a bit of a wait since it was busy. Seating was tight because our part of six was smushed into a booth that should probably only accommodate four. A bowl of ramen is about $8-12 USD, on the higher end locally (the average office worker in Manila makes less than $10 an hour). I tried their limited edition (available until April 30) Yakiniku Ramen. The pork bone broth was lukewarm, but the consistency of the Hakata style noodles were great and the soft boiled egg was perfect. The thin slices of pork went well with the teriyaki and spice miso sauce. Philippines 2024 collection: https://www.yelp.com/collection/DHwKzvo7o_ll8jmXFFU3KA/PHIL-2024
