Great Tai place amazing food and service. We had to try a little bit of everything.

The food is very good, but for me personally it's eclipsed by how really dirty the restaurant is. I watched the waitstaff constantly opening a side door that was completely filthy. The floors and walls were also not clean. And the menu had something sticky all over it. I have no problem with the food, but I was seriously put off by the dirty environment. Not long after Team Rama took over from the previous Bangkok City did they make a positive mark in the SPGF community. Rama was the best and I ate there at least twice a week for a year or two. The quality has fallen off (pad see yew is a wet mess and the basil stir fry is meh at best) and the staff has turned over so much that management might be a problem. They had a great run and I ate there so often that it hurts to give them less than 5 stars but the quality is less than worth the investment. This review is long overdue! This is one of our favorite spots in Springfield. I've been here more than a dozen times - we have tried it to eat there, to take to go, at lunch, at dinner, on weekdays and on weekends. The quality is consistently good. Some of our favorites include the spring rolls, the pad Thai and the Kai Tod Rama. Portions are generous and the service is normally very quick. Prices are very affordable. The atmosphere is relaxed. You can find guests wearing jeans or dressed up. Rama Thai is in an old house which makes it quaint and fun to visit. Definitely recommend for everyone to try! read more

My friend and I came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty packed! Lots of people picking up to go orders but also people wanting to sit down and eat. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and then were seated. We shared orders of Drunken Noodles and Yellow Curry. Both were ordered at a heat level of one. And we added chicken to both of the dishes. The Yellow Curry was so good. Sweet with some heat (I wish it was just a tad more spicy) but the coconut milk and spice flavors were so good! Veggies and fruit and chicken were all cooked perfectly. The Drunken Noodles were also very delicious and paired well with the Yellow Curry. Also I wish it was slightly spicier, but it was still really great. There were pretty busy and they could have filled our waters up. For some reason it was also really hot in the restaurant that day. While in town we had the pleasure of dining here! My Tom Kha was OUTSTANDING. The best I've ever had, in any city, ever. My husband had the pho and the broth was out of this world with a true depth of flavor without needing to add a bunch of stuff to it. I'm not the kind of person who normally writes reviews, but I felt I had to given what I witnessed last night. First things first, I think the food is good. Not the best Thai food I've had, but far from the worst. The service was very friendly, if not a bit chaotic, but they made sure my needs were taken care of at the very least. It was a Friday night so of course it was busy and there was a long wait, to be expected for a Friday night. I didn't have a reservation, but I overheard not one, but two different people mention they had reservations, but there were no tables available for them. Those people seemed pretty frustrated, to no surprise. The host was very apologetic, but explained that the owner had the restaurant phone and she wasn't there, so he wasn't sure when the reservation was placed, but he did what he could to move them up the wait list. While that was certainly frustrating to watch, it unfortunately doesn't end there. A middle-aged lady came in not too long after, I assume she is either their manager or the owner. She immediately started yelling at the host to sit someone ahead on the wait list, and he and two other servers had to explain that a different group of people were waiting much longer and also had a reservation and needed to be sat next. I'll admit I was being a bit nosy and listened in, but she was loud so I imagine I'm not the only one who heard. After I got sat, the problems ended there. Or at least I thought so. Like I said before, decent food and good service, but I heard a bit of a commotion later in the night, and I saw the lady from earlier yelling at one of the waitresses off to the side. She was very loud, saying something about not wanting good servers, just servers that listen to her. There were some other people waiting to be seated that overheard as well. She was really mean, I don't know how that poor girl didn't end up crying or quitting on the spot, but she kept her composure. Do I recommend the food here? Sure, it's good, cheap Americanized Thai food. But the business itself? Probably not. I hope their boss learns how to be nicer to the servers and host, they're just trying their best. read more

I know the reviews are tremendously high here, but it really was just okay. Nice staff, huge huge portions for at least 2 people per an entree to share for dinner. Pros: 1) Large dinner portions and excellent lunch specials 2) Mango sticky rice. It's like my fav. dessert, but it needs more condensed milk 3) Pretty good green curries 4) Very nice staff Cons: 1) It's in an old house and either it doesn't have AC or it was just humid inside the house. 2) Lots of flys 3) I really did not like my drunken noodles. It was heavy and greasy. 4) I wanted to love the crispy duck but do not get the basil sauce and ask for the chili sweet n sour and on the side next time It's decent Thai food, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have it. read more

It's a strange set up and not a "normal" building but don't let that deter you from going. It's good. It's fairly authentic. It isn't fully Americanized. I have been here 3 times and 2 of the 3 the food was really good, but this last time the food was not good at all. The Pad Thai noodles were bland on taste and the appetizer platter was just so-so. They had ran out of beer during Covid time, and so we ordered some wine but it tasted like old bottom of the bottle wine (not good). So, if I was ranking it on just this one visit, it would have been 1-2 stars but since we have been here before and it was really quite good, I put it at 3 stars for now and would try back when we came back to town. read more

The ambience is wonderful. This quaint old house turned to a cafe with brilliant bang-for-your-buck belly filling entrees is the right choice if you are looking for speed, flavor, and kind service. The most Authentic Thai food in SGF, and you gotta believe me because I am Thai. Great lunch menu(don't know how they could make money with free soup, salad and HUGE portion of food!!! My favorite thing here are crab fried rice(they actually real crab not imitation crab), and Ramathai fried rice. The dinner menu is a bit pricey. The servers are nice and friendly. The setup is a little odd(of cause it's a house turned into restaurant). They also have nice seating area when the weather is permitted. read more

Recently moved to Missouri and wanted some Thai food. Based on the reviews, I was expecting some great Thai food... it was ok. I ordered online for pick up and food was ready at the promised time, that was nice. However, portion was very small for what the price was, I selected medium spicy and the dish was literally 10/10 on spicy. Besides the spicy flavor, the food was kinda bland. Thai tea was pretty good. Maybe Missouri people have low expectations for Thai food. I need to try other places next time. read more

I have ordered takeout from Rama Thai a few times and have always enjoyed the food. Today I decided to come in and sit down to eat. The food was great, as always. However my only complaint is of what seems to be a new policy. I paid with card and when the waitress dropped off the ticket and card she said they no longer do tip on card and only accept cash tips. Uhhh what? Like most people now days, I do not carry cash. I only carry plastic forms of payment. I feel like this with factor into my decision to eat here in the future. Really really good food! 100% recommend the steamed pot-stickers. I would however recommend NOT getting the calamari. Soda is in the can and therefore charged per, but that's alright as long as you know it ahead of time. Got the Pad Thai with shrimp and would 100% recommend it. Took my order to-go last night and was generally pleased. I thought the portion size was great for the tamarind chicken and vegetables (~$10). The quality was average, though that likely suffered a bit since I didn't eat it as soon as it came off the grill. I ordered a spiciness level of 2/4, which was perfect for someone who wants a kick, but not too spicy that will overwhelm the actual taste of the food. Like others have stated, I was a bit disappointed by the quality and quantity of the side salad. Though complimentary, there's just nothing in it but shredded lettuce and a cup of dressing. I didn't have any trouble finding parking and the staff was friendly during my short visit in the house/restaurant. We have been here a couple times now, and I just can't seem to try anything other than the yellow curry! This place has amazing food, although today we tried the crispy tofu, and it wasn't remotely crispy. Regardless still a huge fan; it's been very hard trying to find different areas in town to satisfy our vegan diet. Yes we do also get sick of eating the same thing, and of course we don't want to cook all the time. Anyway back to the food! They give you so much food for the price, we usually have leftovers for the next day! Just whatever you do order 1 star or less "don't be brave!" Came in on my journey to find the best Pad Thai in Springfield. Place is in an old house with lots of charm. Sadly I think someone has been slacking on the cleaning. Old is cool, old and dirty not so much. I recommend skipping the mens room. Order Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai, ask for medium. Comes with soup and a small bowl of sliced cabbage. Soup had a good broth and vegetables but was a bit put off by the instant rice in the bottom. Pad Thai comes out and I'd put it at about a 1 star mild on the heat meter. Shrimp were ok, chicken was ok, asked for no scallions/green onions, got loads, and a very slight sprinkling of peanut dust. The flavor was 3 stars all day but the cheaping out on the some of the ingredients and overall cleanliness drops this to a 2 for me. The Good Cool Location Low Prices The Bad Instant rice, but why? Skimped on the peanuts. No red spice of awesome to dust on. No bean sprouts, so pretty basic Pad Thai The Ugly Seriously, clean that mens room and the door going into it. Their lunch special is really economical, and each food comes with two delicious crab rangoons and free appetizers (salad and soup of the day). The restaurant ambiance is also very nice; it makes you feel like you are in Thailand. My favorite items on their menu include the Pad See You and the Three-Taste Chicken. You can also customize the spiciness of your food on a 4-star scale, with 4-star being the most spicy. It's easy to find parking as well. I was in the area and was craving some Tom Yum or Tom Kha Soup. I'm glad I found this place. Started to think I was lost in the neighborhood when I was trying to look for this restaurant until I saw the big sign in front of a house. The restaurant is located at an old house and parking is on the street, which wasn't too bad. The restaurant is small but they weren't busy when I went so I got seated immediately. The servers were friendly but didn't speak English fluently, so it was a little difficult to converse with them. Tom Kha Chicken Soup - big serving for a small order for $4.95. It has a strong, coconut cream taste with a little sourness, saltiness and sweetness. It had big chunks of chicken, mushrooms, slices of white onion and green onion. Not the best tom kha I've had but it's good enough to satisfy my craving! Crispy Duck in Pineapple Curry sauce - recommended! The duck is so crispy and flavorful. It comes with white rice and the dish is big enough to be shared by two people. The duck was placed in a pool of curry sauce with mixed veggies. The veggies didnt look fresh and were dry, but I did like the crispy duck. read more

While visiting my daughter at her college in Springfield in the fall, we decided to try this place for lunch and were not disappointed. The restaurant is housed in a old two story house, was quaint and fun, and was very easy to find. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the seating areas were limited to some extent, so be forewarned--it fills up fast, so best to get their early as apparently it's a locals favorite. We ordered off their lunch menu which comes with soup, salad, and crab rangoon. The portions were generous, the service was good, and the prices are very affordable. I would definitely recommend everyone give Rama Thai a try if you're in town looking for great Thai food! The only negative that I would mention would be, in my opinion, they could do with a good thorough cleaning--visible splatters, dingy dirty paint and floors. read more

This is probably the best food I've ever had, and that is saying a lot. It's a super quaint two story home, with a patio. Big home feeling and a huge menu, the nicest staff, and just jaw dropping food. We asked for suggestions and they didn't disappoint. My husband got the swimming angels, which was OFF THE CHARTS, and I got the fresh bas with shrimp. I wouldn't even mind driving from Joplin, to eat here. AMAZING read more
