I called in a prescription and was told it would be ready in an hour. That was fine. I went to…read morethe store an hour and a half later to pick it up (I gave the pharmacy an extra half hour just to be safe). I waited in line to see the pharmacy cashier and pick up/pay for my prescription. I'm told it is not ready. The young woman at the counter did not apologize. She said I could wait or come back. That was all she said. It was like she thought my time was worth nothing and I could just wait an indeterminate period of time or I could just leave without my medication. I had to ask: How long would I have to wait? She said 20-30 minutes. After I waited in line for at least 10 minutes that's a 40 minute wait. What is the point of calling in the prescription and being given a time that it will be ready and not honoring the time being given to the customer? Especially not acknowledging that the customer has every right to be frustrated. Terrible customer service. "Go away or wait." Rude employees who don't take any responsibility for achieving the expectations that they give to the customers. No wonder they look like they are going out of business. With performance like that, customers will not try to keep them open. Not me.

I don't use this pharmacy but the pharmacist seems really nice. I did see a sign up that they are unable to take new prescriptions at this time. There's a small selection of pharmacy-type items, like first aid and some beauty products. The gifts are their big thing, though- for pretty much any occasion. They also offer free gift wrapping with nice paper, ribbon, and a gold foil Rexall sticker on the package. My main hesitation for that fifth star is the unrelenting onslaught of "can I help you"s, where it almost feels like you're being monitored while you browse. Of course it's always great to have help when you need it, but I find this level of engagement disconcerting and it makes me want to hurry up and get out of there. The prices on most items are higher than my budget allows, but they seem to be making the model work. I bought a pair of earrings here for $40 last week. It was too close to closing to have it gift wrapped but the cashier asked if I'd like a box for them. When I got home I realized she'd bent the cardboard card the earrings were mounted on to fit it into the box. Not a big deal but this did not make for a great presentation of them as a gift. This has not been my experience usually, as they almost always do a very nice job with the (free!) gift wrapping. They are closed on Sundays.

Anyhow I proceeded to the pharmacy counter where I assumed I would need to go to get said shot. I had called ahead to confirm they had them in stock and someone was there who could administer the shot. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was helpful and pleasant but did not think to mention to me that you don't actually need to stand in the very long 45 minute wait line for the pharmacy pick up when getting a tetanus shot just go to the consult window. Well long line lesson learned the hard way here! So I finally proceed to the proper line to get set up for my shot. And then fill out said forms. And give them my insurance card and payment info. They have trouble processing my insurance. Do they call the number on the insurance card for pharmacy staff to use for help? No! They just demand I pay cash price of $81.99 for the shot. So, I looked online and found a coupon from GoodRx that stated they should give me the shot for less ($50) but they refused to accept it. Stated its corporate policy they cannot accept any coupons for vaccines at their stores. I find that interesting since all the pharmacies I've used in the past have never had a problem using these coupons, including other Rite Aid locations! All in all, a terrible experience. And sadly not the first time I've tried getting something thru this same pharmacy location using my insurance which I assure you is perfectly good and able to be used without issue at every one of their local competitors without any problems or even so much as needing a phone call. So what their pharmacy techs are doing here is beyond me. I call it the bait and switch where they do their best to get you to pay out of pocket for stuff your insurance should be paying for. Because the cash pay pricing is way more than my insurance would pay for this item. I of course got my insurance to reimburse ME for the cost I had to pay, but it was a hassle and I should not have had to do so! As a Healthcare professional myself I do know how to do these things with ease but I'm sure most of my neighbors who live here in Morro Bay and use this place regularly do not. It's crappy of the staff here to be so lazy and take advantage of this thinking that people just don't know any better. They are lucky I'm giving the 3 stars I am and honestly that is for the kindness of the Nurse Practitioner who administered the injection and the gentlemen who answered the phone and was so polite and kind and helpful. Otherwise I would give zero stars for the rest of this experience!

I arrived at 9:05 and waited for 15 min in a line only to be told to go wait in another line to "confirm insurance." Waited there for another 5 min to be told they already had the insurance but hadn't started the on the RX. So then they told me it would be 15-30 minutes. I still needed get some other things for my friends BUT the shelves are literally bare. Each aisle is easily 85%+ empty. So I went next door to Albertsons to grab the things needed. I came back to the pharmacy now 1.5 hours after my initial arrival and they still hadn't even started the RX. They were extremely rude and weren't helpful whatsoever. I would recommend avoiding this pharmacy/store at ALL COSTS!!

First, I was told I'd have to return the following day because they were closing in 30 minutes and had already locked up the area my meds would be coming from (even though the script had been sent over 4 hours beforehand). The next time I went I was told that I would have to wait because my meds weren't ready, that script had been sent the day before. I'm always met with hesitance and told to come back, it doesn't matter how long they've had my prescription it seems like they won't fill it until I come. The last time, early today, I was told I'd have to come back in an hour because (surprise) my script wasn't filled yet, even though it had been sent in over two days ago. I come back almost 2 hours later and then I'm told they don't have it ready and it won't be filled until "maybe tomorrow". This time I'm told that although I was told that it would be ready they never actually checked their inventory, and they don't have the meds in stock. Absolutely horrible experience here, would be nice if they could get there act together and actually help people.

This pharmacy only caters to a specific group of people. If you have insurance they will do…read moreeverything in their power to make you get your prescriptions filled elsewhere. Initially the process was ok but I've never had an order take less than a week. Then I was told that insurance companies were "squeezing" them on pricing so I had to pay the difference between what insurance would pay and the profit they wanted. Finally they added a $30 "surcharge" to every visit. I finally had it after I picked up 2 prescriptions and the total was over $100! They also have inexperienced counter help who were unable to answer any questions and simply handed me a piece of paper that said the insurance companies were to blame. I had to take my business elsewhere, these people are taking out their anger at insurance companies on customers.
