Horrible communication and aggressive "professional" staff. The person checking me out raised her voice to a near shout over the fact that they do not take my insurance. This was something I'd tried to discuss with them twice on the phone before driving down from Cambria. I knew I was out of network. I was visiting Cambria on a holiday and trying to decide between driving 500 miles to home and back or paying the (criminal) no-insurance rate. I also told them, once on the phone and once in person that I wanted to cut down the ""refill" to just the supply needed for my trip. They ignored this twice and the person who was upset about my insurance coverage tried to ring me up for the whole 3-month supply for hundreds of dollars. Just terrible service, poor communication and a lack of comprehension that suggests these folks got their pharmacy certifications through grade inflation. That said, the woman who was running the front counter, who probably doesn't have a fancy cert, was nice and I feel like CVS should pay her to get whatever degree/certificate is required so they can replace the "pros" behind the back counter. read more

This review is for the PHARMACY only, as in, the hard working folks behind the counter dealing with convoluted insurance companies and assisting (sometimes long lines of) humans who are understandably anxious to get the medicines they need. I've been picking up my medications here for almost two years and, as far as my expectations for pharmacies go, I am perfectly content. No, they don't know me by name or tell how beautiful I am each time I come in, but they are courteous and efficient enough. They return my phone calls in a timely manner. The line is never egregiously long. I get what I need and get out, often receiving a smile or two along the way. read more

The worst customer service ever. They literally don't care about anything. One of the guys had AirPods in and was talking to whoever he was talking to while dealing with me. Made the interaction confusing because I didn't know if he was actually talking to me or not. If I can avoid going there I would. But their offers on cards and photos are too good. :/ read more

Pharmacy - Unfriendly. Long lines. Uninterested employees without competence. Super high prices. Avoid.

Sadly, it seems that all the major pharmacies have been going downhill for the past few years, including CVS. While it is still better than Walgreens in some aspects, such as in many close locations, the prices keep increasing & service keeps degrading. Due to the bidding process, Walgreens & Optimum Rx is the preferred pharmacy for my insurance, even though it is a 1/2 to 45 minute drive to get to one. For monthly or one time fills, we can still go to CVS or Rite Aid. As with the other pharmacies, most other store brand products have gone way up in price to match the price escalations of brand names. This seems especially true for Dry Eye drops, where even the CVS brand costs about $8 for just 1/2 oz.. OTC products & other products have all gone up a lot, but so has Costco. While the Pharmacists are still generally helpful & friendly, the CVS "system" & front desk system has degraded. Recently, it took two trips & several phone calls to have them finally "figure" out that a certain prescription was no longer produced. There was a series of mistakes made by the front desk, where they kept giving us the wrong answer. First they said that it would be ready in a day. Then the story changed to that they had to call the MD's office. Then, after I cancelled the order, they called again to see if another Rx could be substituted...and so on. Ironically, initially I did at first try their automated on-line refill system. It appeared that quite often, the front desk clerks seemed either not read nor understand the data that was already present on the computer. In general, it really seems evident that to get a more coherent answer is to ask to speak to the pharmacist either over the phone or in store. While they used to have a decent system for reminding you of refills via calls or texts, even that has limitations. Sadly, Walgreens is even worse. Ironically, as almost all Rx has gone way up in price, it seems that pharmacies get less of the profits, so they decrease the number of workers in response. It seems that the middle-men & insurance companies are really ripping all of us off, even for cheap low quality Rx from China or India. Recently, they have now found a fourth Carcinogen in common BP Rx from these third world countries [the -sartan group of meds.]. Our FDA seems to be almost useless in policing foreign sources, yet they still have the nerve to say that they are FDA approved. What a sad joke! While it is not specifically CVS's nor other pharmacy's "fault" that our FDA & system is so horrid, they still could make the public aware of this. Since they also put profits before care, we rarely see any warnings from Pharmacies about the dangers of contamination for both brand name or generics. The only indication of these many repeat incidents are sporadic recalls that appear in the news. After awhile, one sees repeats & after checking the FDA website & some Goggle-work, you can see the huge scope of these chronic problems. It is also horrifying to note that one is not even safe with name brand Rx, since the chemical itself may have been produced on the cheap in another country that has few or no regulations. One would incorrectly assume that the Big Pharma companies would manufacture their brand name compounds in either the US or in Europe. The situation is even worse for OTC ointments & such, since only the company is on the label, not the source of the compounds. One has to somehow foolishly "trust" these untrustworthy poorly regulated multinational corporations that seem all about profit. The FDA has always been problematic & has a history of being very cozy with Big Pharma. The current administration has taken pride in cutting tons of regulations, which removes even more safety measures meant to guard us from dangerous chemicals or drugs. They have done very little to curb the wild increase in costs to consumers, while doing nothing to insure that we get what we think we paid for. I surely do not pay top dollar to get drugs contaminated by Cancer causing chemicals or other chemicals. The FDA has almost zero enforcement or oversight over the 3,000+ drug producers all over the world. Rarely, even if the FDA knows about horridly poor factories, they only send a warning letter or two...or may do a limited recall. After the recall, those very same factories do not seem to improve & the FDA does serial recalls without addressing the real problem. In fact, the FDA is toothless and it is unclear if they have significant real enforcement over any company. While CVS is not responsible for much of this, they also do not seem to do much to educate the public, nor lobby the FDA or Feds, to regulate. I did not see one notice of any recall in the store. To be fair, even though CVS has it it's limitations, I still go here. I do find that most of the Pharmacists are friendly & helpful. Thank you! read more

I was in town and needed a COVID test, looked online and CVS Phartmacy was listed as having testing done in their store. Headed over and when I got there I was informed that they do not give COVID tests on site. As I was talking to the pharmasist I noticed a posting stateing that they were all out of COVID self-test kits. read more

No way to call these people, a recording they will call back in an hour. After three days the store manager went back to the pharmacy so I could talk to someone. The told me with the RX, I had to get a written RX so I did. Then waited in the drop off line, ignored and others went before me in pick up. Told to go to pick up line, then directed back to drop off, ignored again. Pharmacist new and would not fill a veterinary RX that was filled there the same way before, said had to be electronic when their staff told me it had to be written. VETS HAVE NO WAY TO ELECTRONICALLY SEND AN RX. 4 days waisted with these clowns. Good luck there, no one gives a rats ass. High turn over for a reason!! read more

I was in San Luis Obispo and needed some toiletries. This CVS (in the Laguna Village Shopping Center) was close to where I was staying. So off I go. This CVS is one of the nicest I've been to including the one down the street from my house. The shopping center is located in a well maintained, clean and professionally landscaped strip mall. The interior was clean as well even the carpeting. The staff I spoke to was super helpful and friendly. The items I needed were easy to find. The aisles and shelves were organized, clean, and well stocked. However the CVS card rewards system was down. Darn, I couldn't use my rewards cash I was looking forward to using it plus vice versa... getting more reward points. But at least bI was told upfront prior to being rung up. This review is a direct review on the pharmacist. I was refused a small prescription for pain killers for emergency dental work because I am not a regular at this pharmacy. Word for word. "Those painkillers are only for our regulars." Hey. I'm not a regular because i don't have any regular prescriptions?!?!! So like how am I suppose to be a regular?!?! Just pure trash. Probably borderline illegal. I didn't raise a fuss because it's covid and I'm sure there are people who do need the painkillers more than i do. I don't want to cause any of those people any hardship. But this pharmacist. Yea he's pure trash. Like gotta be the worst one around. Just egregious. Doesn't care at all about patients or customers or seemingly anything or anyone. I regularly shop here and refill my prescriptions. This morning I was treated like a child and scolded by the pharmacist. The pharmacist said we open @ 9am, we need time to process this prescription. His eyes looked over worked and tired. He was angry, like I am supposed to know the prescription was due to be refilled today. Most of my prescriptions are electronic so it's hard to tell when it ready. I said to him wis there a problem? What is the problem? He looked at the computer and said no problem. I usually go in to see if it's ready and if its not no big deal I will come back tomorrow. I am not a child, please treat and speak to me with respect. I have had great conversations with the pharmacist before. Maybe this was an off day? Either way the customer service was definitely lacking here. I know he has to put up with tons of people demanding refills asap, must be tiring. However let us be real here, talk to me like a child, bad all around. read more

I have been using this pharmacy for about a year. I have never had a problem until I needed refills. First, the pharmacist never transferred my refills from the original script to my bottles. I called the pharmacy & inquired as to a copy of the original ... THEN they realized their mistake & gave me my refills 7 DAYS LATE. Shame on you CVS!! I've stopped using CVS because of the inconvenience & the pharmacists lack of attention to details (I.e.: REFILLS as written by my doctor.) IF I ever use CVS again, I'll be opening my stapled bags & checking my bottles carefully in the store, before paying!! Step up to the plate CVS! I was visiting the CVS drugstore on the corner of Los Osos Valley Road and Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo today around 1 o'clock in the afternoon I was trying to get the customer service representative who was working there a young man who obviously is new and doesn't really know what he's doing and I know it's really hard to get employees but he was unable to help me he walked away and went to another register and I just asked him what's going on here and he said he's busy and he can't do what I was asking him to do and That was basically yeah well I went over to another register and dealt with a woman named Nora who is the acting store manager who is able to help pay and I said this man is not a good customer service representative were three times he said FUFUFU to me while Nora was there and she heard it there were other customers there I was thoroughly embarrassed and I've never ever been to any store anywhere or anyone would use language like that to me. I asked Nora who's the asking store manager to fire the person on the spot she chose not to I called back and got Nora again on the phone and told her what was going on and she said she would talk to Melissa and have Melissa call me next week I left my name and phone number I don't know the name of the customer service person who told me to F you which I'm sure everyone knows what that means And I was like still thoroughly embarrassed and I told her if that man is working there still I am going to get a lawyer and I'm going to sue that store because that was the worst customer service experience I've had in my life I'm 75 years old and a disabled Vietnam era veteran and I was treated that way at a CVS store and they didn't fire the person I don't know what's the matter with them I don't care with and they have no other employees available that employ is not someone you want working for you. I will see you next week what happens and I told Nora if he's working there I will get a lawyer I will sue him and I will sue the store and I'm not kidding. read more

Great place to find pretty much anything. This place is rather small so finding stuff on your own should be an easy task. Always, at a last resort, just ask one of their employees. The cashier was pretty friendly and looking for party stuff (drinks, chips, candy) was a breeze. Place is rather quiet during the night times so you're pretty golden. read more

I am completely disgusted with how I was treated here. The pharmacist, Albert, had called me letting me know a prescription was ready, but he was COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. He started off with an extremely rude demeanor, to which I had told him that there was no need for that as I had JUST answered the phone. He then hung up up on me and told me that "my kind" was not welcome there; I am guessing because he knows I am a practicing Muslim. I have never been so offended. PLEASE PLEASE SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. I am next going to call the board about getting Albert's med. practicing rights needing to be revoked. What an awful human and an awful experience. read more

Came in today for an antibiotic that was going to be an $80 copay. The pharmacist and pharmacist tech Amar volunteered to look up a better rate on GoodRx and got a 50% reduction in the copay cost. It would have been easy for them to tell me to look it up myself or call my provider for a different prescription, but they went above and beyond to make sure I didn't get overcharged by my insurance. By the time they were done, it was 10 minutes after closing and it was clear they were technically staying after their shift had ended. I was really impressed - this kind of service doesn't happen often in healthcare. Thank you, pharmacy team! read more

I had a really frustrating experience at the pharmacy counter yesterday afternoon. I'm visiting from out of state & unexpectedly had to change a RX per my GP's request. Initially, I had asked my script to be sent to Walgreens for the convenience of already having my insurance on file with them... but then realized the nearest location is in Atascadero. So, I selected the CVS closest to where I'm staying... and I really regret it. Long story short, the clerk Christian was seemingly inconvenienced by my overall presence. Understandably, she was frustrated by a miscommunication we had regarding Blue Cross vs. Medco but regardless, this is her job... not mine. I did my best to provide the information she asked for and she was inpatient & rude -- all while training another associate. Maybe I'm wrong to make this assumption but it seems natural to me that someone who has chosen to work in a customer-facing health care position should be kind, compassionate, & professional. Maybe she should have considered taking a mental health day? read more

First time here, and customer service is only selectively good. Rayniece served us, and she was totally patient and helpful in explaining the process. I like her! While waiting for my meds and browsing through their aisles, other staff came by often to ask if I was doing ok. Great and friendly! Then came Cara who seems to have an attitude and very reluctant to serve first-timers like myself. Service with a smile, lady! This is a horrible CVS, and I don't know why I keep going back, except it's super close to my house and I have bouts of laziness. The pharmacy is routinely slow and under-staffed. They never have more than one checker up front, and they don't have staff on the floor. I walked in to get passport photos taken, and there was no one around to help. So, I waited in the checkout line to ask about passport photos, and it turned out their camera wasn't working. If they'd just put a sign up in the photo area, I would have left and not wasted ten minutes walking around looking for help and then standing in line. It's time for me to give up on this CVS and move on. read more

Woah. I was ordered a liquid antibiotic by my doctor due to allergies associated with the pills. They gave me pills!!!! I believed the pills they gave me were correct but I immediately vomited amongst other horrible symptoms. I specifically told the pharmacist I had an allergy!!!!!!! The pharmacist was pretty rude and didn't bother to tell me any side effects on my new meds, even when I asked. He clearly didn't even look closely at the meds he gave me. I picked up two types, and when I asked about the side effects of one he just pointed out that the other medication I received wasn't the medication I was asking about. He was obviously under the impression that he was giving me one type of medication and that I didn't know what this medication was. This is worrisome because I am aware of some very common negative interactions of one of the medications. I wanted to know if there was anything I else should avoid, but he failed to mention the most basic precautions. From there Albert, a pharmacist really helped me through the whole process. I wasn't exactly sure how to do everything since this is my first time on my own and picking up medicine by myself. I have been using this pharmacy once a month for years. They always tend to be slow on service, but the girls at the counter are always nice enough. Today, I had to deal with the pharmacist-rudest person I ever met. I messed up, and forgot to get the prescription for my son on Friday, so he hadn't had his medicine yet today, so I was waiting at the pharmacy before they opened at 9:00 AM. The pharmacist came to the drop off window, where I was standing, at 9:05 AM, and took my prescription. I explained my error, and asked if it would be possible to get the refill before school started or at least sometime this morning; as my son needs to take his medicine before noon, otherwise he won't be able to sleep tonight (side effect pharmacist should have been aware of). He said "no", but kept processing my prescription. I asked if he couldn't fill the prescription this morning, could he recommend a 1 hour pharmacy. He told me I could take my prescription anywhere else-but no one would help me. He then said he could fill the prescription this morning, but he wasn't going to do it right away, because he just opened. He finished entering the prescription into his computer. I asked when I could expect to pick it up-and he said after noon. I told him no, and asked for my prescription back, that I would go somewhere else. He made a big fuss about me wasting his time, and that I should have told him before he entered the prescription that I wasn't going to have it filled, and made a big production about covering some notations he made on the prescription. He was rude and dismissive the entire time. I complained to the store manager-who didn't particularly seem to care either. I will be filing a complaint with corporate. I went to the CVS in Target with my prescription. Super easy to transfer everything over since I was already in the CVS system-and they told me they could fill the prescription in under and hour-and did. They also told me I wasn't the first person to transfer their prescriptions with complaints about the rude pharmacist at Madonna. I will never go back to the CVS on Madonna again. read more
