Ralphs & other markets in our area are a good reflection on how mankind [AKA humankind], is dealing, or not dealing with reality. People & even products can reveal what really is going on. From what shelves are full, empty, or discounted, you can tell the shifting fads & needs of people. I thank heavens that I already took Yelp Pics of the past numerous empty or part empty shelves eons ago in the Pandemic Hoarding Era. Since the beginning of the Rump, the Pandemic, & now the War, every week seems like a year, and every year seems like an eternity. Just a few months ago, what was missing from most shelves at most markets did appear heavily discounted at other local stores. All things Baking....from Flour to Yeast appeared in Grocery Outlet in huge numbers at great prices...so we took up baking way past the peak manic period. $10 bottles of hand-sanitizer went from non-existent, to pallets of them, discounted down to only 10 cents each at some of the Office Supply stores...and that was between Delta & Omicron....so yes, I have cases of the stuff, since the virus will never stop mutating. It is a good thing that I have a heavy science background and often gets ahead of the curve or predict repeats...which is not that hard in this case. Of course, nowhere does it hit you as when you check out, since there can be tabloids there that claim that the ultimate "Check Out" is near...and then you have the choice of an impulse Chocolate buy right before you are hit with the inflation bill. People, in general, seem to have the attention span of a gnat, so while I still observe some social distancing on the line, I had a check-out clerk ask me if I was in line or waiting for someone. The floor markers have long since disappeared in most, if not all places. Mask wearing is chaotic & inconsistent at best, but I try to wear them for the comfort & health of others. Oddly, it seems it seems that mask-wearing in this Ralphs is not as dismal as in the so-called "North County" of SLO County, but is lower than Whole Paycheck. The best mask-wearing seems to be at nearby Sprouts. I used to love looking at the soon-to-expire or expired/discontinued items at this Ralphs, but the choices seem to be more modest now and are no longer called "Woohoo!" for some odd reason. Oddly again, I favor the return to "Woohoo!" than "Reduced Price". Since I can then again jump up & down and scream WOOHOO right before the End of the World, World War 3, another VOC, Murder Hornets, Jumping Japanese Spiders, Huge Fires, an Asteroid hit, or an errant mini--Black Hole encounter ...whichever comes first. In any case, I will likely be at Ralphs for some of my basic needs near the bitter end of humankind regardless, since I really want heavy cream in my last morning coffee. I recommend always having a backup quality real cream creamer for that last guilty pleasure at the end of time. As if, Cholesterol really mattered to a Black Hole, Hypersonic Nuke, or a deadly viral encounter. After all, some milk products do have Vitamin D, all have some vitamins A, D, E, K, Calcium, Phosphorus, which will not do much for Nukes nor holes but could help a bit with general health. Just watch out for radioactive Strontium from potential fallout. We do need to keep California Happy Cows happily employed regardless. Why should they suffer the same fate as idiot humans? A message to all my many followers.....REPENT....and buy Heavy Cream from Happy California Cows! Thanks & please do not sweat the Hypersonic Nukes. Due to the "wisdom" of MAD, Mutual Assured Destruction, both sides have many thousands of warheads, either deployed for handy use or as backup, so most will be sent on sub-sonic missiles anyway. Neither side really has much of a significant anti-ballistic system anyway. Some of you are likely too young to recall the "Star Wars" anti-nuke proposal back in the days of Reagan, but we do not have the tech of particle beam weapons nor lasers to shoot down much of anything...except maybe some errant birds. Either way, does one really want to know that in 5 minutes you will be nuked, or in zero minutes...if either matters then review what some of us practiced in grade school...that is duck & cover....or just review any number of Sci-Fi movies that cover this... Dr. Strangelove is a classic [& the Nazi overtones are really spot on...and are strangely analogous to some of Putin's rants...or those of Q-people]....but a much less well-known movie "Fail-Safe" is an amazing drama, without the dark humor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail_Safe_(1964_film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_about_nuclear_issues https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/01/the-unexpected-return-of-duck-and-cover/68776/ https://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2021/radioactive-contamination-still-detected-in-chernobyl-crops/ And Heavy Cream & dairy links: https://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Happy-Cows-cheese-ads-called-a-sad-tale-2844218.php Thee End...

They charge me $9 for 6 cucumber very bad customer service they were very rude. They have one or two employees for the whole store.

Make sure to get yourself a "New Age Beverage" while at the SLO Ralph's lol!

I come to this Ralph's to fill up my water jugs and decided to pop in and see what they got. The staff is super friendly and the place is very clean. It's a HUGE grocery store, big building. This Ralph's doesn't do it for me because I eat organic and low carb (most of the time haha) and although the store has some options, they are not as budget friendly as other stores ie. Costco, Trader Joe's & Grocery Outlet. If you could care less about health food, this is a great place to shop, as the size of the store offers a tremendous amount of normal foods.

Shopping Cart with all my "reduced priced" items!

We decided to go with Whole Foods catering now that SLO Provisions is gone. It was a bit tricky to find the site online, but we finally struck gold. I also found a Youtube that described the dishes, and showed how they were packaged. The catering department has lots of selections and you can buy the entire Thanksgiving meal, or build one by picking the items you want. We opted for the turkey breast meal for 89.99, which comes with mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, stuffing, green beans, and cranberry sauce. We also chose Hawaiian rolls and a premade apple pie to have as desert. We got in line at the hospitality desk, and only had to wait about 10 minutes for the meal to come out. All the food was there, but there were no general directions, and only the mashed potatoes and gravy had times or instructions for reheating. We did find instructions online, The online directions were to reheat the turkey breast for 24-30 minutes at 375, but the skin looked raw, and it needed a butter basting. We decided to cook it the day ahead, and it took 1 1/2 hours at 375 to reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees, which is safe to eat. We figure it must have been frozen and the very middle would not heat as fast. I roasted it in a big pan, using forks as a rack, and added carrots, celery and a chopped onion to some chicken broth basting liquid. The green beans were nice and fresh, but only parboiled, so we boiled them, and I turned them into the green bean casserole with mushroom soup, and mushrooms, using grated parmesan and crispy onion bits to top it. We heated the mashed potatoes and gravy on the stove, adding butter to the mashed potatoes. I added a sweet potato and pineapple casserole which uses maple syrup as the sweetener and topped it with tiny marshmallows for the kids. We the turkey in the oven 15 minutes before the green bean casserole, the sweet potato casserole, stuffing, and the carrots, then added the food for 30 more minutes at 375. We checked everything for 165, took it out , then heated the roles for about 5 minutes, and put the marshmallows on top of the sweet potato casserole to brown. The result was that everything was perfectly cooked and piping hot at the same time! The turkey and mashed potatoes were great! Moist cooked turkey with great flavor from the butter and additional herbs. The transformed green beans were tasty, and the stuffing was good. The only miss was the cranberry relish, which had a weird, gooey consistency and was more like cranberry butter, then relish, but we had a can in the pantry and used that instead. All in all great value, but a lot of labor to boost the flavor!!

This large store in San Luis is located in the Laguna Lake shopping center just off the Los Osos Valley Road, so it's a little trafficy to get in but there's plenty of free parking and even shaded spaces available. There's even a special veterans parking space right near the front door. We made a visit the other day so I could get spices to cook some turkey Tikka Masala with the leftover Thanksgiving turkey. This is the only place I've found recently that has individual spices. They still sell them by the individual spice like oregano or thyme or majoram, Most places now have one spice called Italian seasoning or pumpkin spice or barbecue spice and you don't know what the combination is. Since I actually cook things from scratch, I want individual spices and this store has them at bargains prices. Today I got chili, turmeric, oregano, and more cinnamon since it's the cinnamon season! I also enjoy the display of little seasonal gifts that they have available. I got a couple of cute soft socks for my secret Santa pals and scouted out a lot of little stocking stuffers for my grandkids.. When I was a student )appreciated the small sizes of gourmet cheeses and could offer a very nice cheese plate for a lower price than I would've had to pay at other stores. They also have all kinds of crackers,, snacks, and fresh produce, right when you walk in. Paper plates and party supplies are also plentiful, so it is a good place to visit to prepare for those holiday parties. I also got a large size of fresh crumbled feta cheese as well as a plain low-fat yogurt, which has a wonderful homemade tangy flavor. This place is perfect if you do your cooking from scratch because it has all the basics at affordable prices!

GO still has good prices on closeout items, so it's worth an occasional visit. But for me at least it's no longer part of my weekly shopping rounds.

She said it was likely because one of the larger chickens isn't cooked through. She offered to check the internal temp of one of the smaller chickens and pull it out for me if it was done. This worked out and I was able to take the chicken home for a family dinner. While preparing a casserole with the chicken my Dad kept steeling bits of the chicken because it was so good.
