I ordered a birthday cake for a family Birthday celebration for 3/22 from the in store Bakery. It was a double layer marble cake with raspberry filling, whipped cream frosting & topped with abundant fresh berries and was by far the BEST CAKE I have ever gotten from any local bakery. The bags rip before you get to the car yet I paid a dime for each one. When the bag ripped in parking lots my frozen vegetables were ruined. I would have gone back in but the machine for credit cards were not working. So then I had to go stand all over again to pay!! So disappointed Shopping somewhere else. I spend over $600. Vons needs to clean up this store. Below is a photo of the sidewalk entry to the store, which is filthy. Also, the attitude of some of the employees is off-putting. When asking about products or where items are located they are not friendly or helpful. I had one woman in the bakery rudely just outright say she didn't know as she got back to stocking. The store needs to highlight the express 15 items or less line include no door dash and multiple gift cards take the gift cards to the service desk they take time to activate, they should also place a sticker on the metal plate at the beginning of the conveyor belt "15 items or less express" and the checkout divider bars on the express lanes should also say the same thing I choose not to use self checkout with 3 items while clueless people with 30+ items or door dash with multiple orders jump in the 15 items or less express line. And clog up the line. The cashier should try to pay a little more attention discourage customers that they are in the wrong line. The line gets longer to checkout often because baggers tend the other lines that have more items to bag as the express line is 15 or less and the cashier ends up bagging instead of ringing up the next customer I think the store needs to make the hanging sign stand out more instead of blending in a brown sign. a white sign with red letters or reversed In addition you cannot do alcohol at self checkout The 1 star is for the express checking out service only Everything else 3-4's stars the outside sidewalk needs some attention read more

I seem to keep throwing out food just purchased from Von's deli area. Not behind the counter, the regular floor area. Today was an inedible soggy chicken sandwich (the bread was soaked) the chicken was nugget fake stuff coated with soggy breadcrumbs and tasteless. Yuck. $8. No one seems to be assigned to the floor area to make sure things are fresh. I am currently moving over to shopping at California Fresh for everything. read more

Horrible prices, low quality cheap processed foods. The Grocery Outlet across town has items half the price and three times the quality and nutritional value. The people at Grocery Outlet are also kind and inviting. The owners do a lot to show support from the community. In my 40+ years in the area the managers and staff at Vons are all cold and plainly don't have any desire to help any customers as much as they want to avoid them and blow them off. I can't count how many times a Vons employee has inappropriately refused to help me or helped me with a sour attitude. I have only ever had one employee named Maria at the Grocery Outlet in Arroyo Grande treat me like that for no reason. The rest are great and absolutely fantastic, providing a sharp contrast to the attitude and service you get at Vons in Grover Beach. The management at Vons needs to go to the Grocery Outlet on Branch Street in Arroyo Grande and take lots of notes. That also applies to their hygiene practices. Stark black and white difference compared to Grocery Outlet's pristine floors and perfectly organized aisles and items. Vons needs new management/owners. read more

Vons Sushi bar is so good. As you enter the store a friendly gentleman is preparing freshly made sushi. The variety is great. I am super impressed with how good these rolls are. This review is based off the customer service I received from Angie today. I accidentally entered the wrong phone number which normally wouldn't have been a big deal, but this was a big order that I had downloaded a bunch of digital deals for. She was kind enough to unbag and rescan about half of my order so I was able to get the discounts I downloaded. I know it was a pain especially on the Saturday before Christmas, but she was so sweet and understanding about it and didn't make me feel bad about my mistake. I didn't get her baggers name but he was also very kind and patient. I shop at this Vons on a pretty regular basis, and this was by far the best customer service I have received. From my childhood to now, this store has been my go-to for consistency, friendly and familiar faces, cheap prices and my membership at Vons. During a recent shopping trip, the service deli closed early due to overall store construction, but there was no signs up saying they'd be doing so, thus depleting the hot bar selection. Post-shopping, a checkout lane with a seemingly closed sign offered assistance amid a bustling store. I was excited that the girl behind the register was able to take me, since there was only one other lane open and the rest was self-checkout. However, the checkout experience changed when the teenage boy in a beanie, bagging my groceries made sarcastic remarks when I requested my hot and cold items to be separated. The cashier and bagger seemed to be more excited to talk to each other and flirt with one another than engage in any conversation with me, the customer being ignored. Exiting the store, a grocery cart from the Girl Scout's troop that was closing up collided with my car as I was trying to leave the parking lot. I understand. This is not Vons's fault but this added another layer to frustration leaving tonight. Beyond this evening, Vons Pickup in the Grover Beach location consistently disappoints me. Incorrect items, overcharges, and unwanted substitutions in almost all of my orders. Over the last three years, the once enjoyable shopping experience has taken a dramatic nosedive. read more

I'm new to the Area, but I frequently come to this Vons after work. I'm usually exhausted and not in the mood to converse. It's nothing special, but on a particular day, one of the "teenage baggers" (I'm not even sure if he's a teenager, I'm just going off the negative review left by another customer who seems to think that she's an author) made my day by striking up a friendly conversation. I think he had excellent customer service and he should be applauded by the management of this store. I come to this store nearly everyday, and on this particular day, he made my day. I went to check out. I went to take the plastic bar that separates the items for the next person, so they could begin putting their things on the belt. The blonde middle aged cashier, maybe named Shelby, literally slapped it down and barked, "No" at me. I said, "I can't use that?" And again she rudely just said, "No". The lady behind me who I was trying to help was shocked and made a comment about the cashier's rudeness. The cashier then said, "If you take it the basket will hit the side". My niece sent me birthday presents from Von's in Grover Beach via INSTACART. They included two bunches of flowers and other things I really like. Two days after delivery the flowers look awful, especially the marigolds - see photo. I know my niece spent plenty of $$$ on my gifts, so I feel very bad for her. Ironically the following RECENT review about Vons Flower Dept. is on line: I went in for milk and coffee creamer and ended up seeing some marigolds that were visibly dying and I asked the self checkout clerk if I could receive a little bit of a discount. Meh. This place is ok. They always have a consistent selection of quality food items at a slightly higher than average price. The few times I've interacted with employees it's always pleasant. The parking lot and entrance need a power wash but the overall store is clean. I use this store only because of the rewards you get back from shopping. Gray blonde hair pulled back Went up to my high end vehicle And literally banged on the glass in a rage of a very angry bird. (At this point, my window has an air leak now) Vons corporate please get your workers to stay in control of themselves. My kids were not reluctant to move as they were only dropping me off. I'm sorry the workers are so angry with this job and have a young girl as your Tattle tail. The store was not busy, but I did try to go back in to rectify the situation of your bad behavior. This store has gone downhill. i can't count how many times now I've gotten home and found out things I've bought were expired or not even expired but moldy and bad! What happened? Everything has been moved so that it takes 3x times as long to shop. It also takes 2x more dollars. Check out the signs in the center isle that goes across the store. The signs are oriented so that you can only read the sign for the isle your in. (I already know what's in this isle, I'm standing in it.) If you're in that center isle and want to know what is in the other isles, forget it. You can't read those signs. Employees are very nice and the people doing the shopping for delivery and pick up are good showing you where things are (since they have been moved.) Why can't the app tell you which isle things are in? The app is very hard to navigate. I clipped about 15 coupons on the app the night before, but most of them either disappeared, or I could not find the list of them to shop them. The app also doesn't have the same specials as the store. For example: Diet Pepsi 12 pack on line did not have the Buy 2 get 3 free special. The app needs some work and consumer testing. Von's could be 5 star, but top management seems not to get it! read more

Not a huge fan of Vons before this encounter, however I'm a fan of Joseph. He was a OG, with 1 minute left to spare before closing, & sprinting from my house, after thinking you closed @ 12, but actually 11pm. Because of Joseph entirely, vons showed up & showed great customer service skills, even down to the last minute, & now will think about vons, when in need, after a can do attitude, experience like that. I believe that in the two + years we've lived in the area this Vons has undergone some big improvements. I don't shop here all the time, so its hard to be more specific, but it has a different "feel" to it than it did back when we moved here. They have a terrific selection of fresh flowers, and baked goods, and a pretty decent selection of organic produce. The staff I've interacted with in the meat/fish department and bakery have all been polite, and helpful. A big pet-peeve was the collection of really dilapidated shopping carts...these seem to have been replaced. Overall, I enjoy shopping here. Kinda wish they would improve their selection of "snack/energy" bars like Luna, Cliff, etc. Its pretty feeble compared to the Vons in SLO and in a hard to find location in the pharmacy section. read more

My last experience with pick-up on October 11, 2024 was not good. All of the fresh vegetables were old and/or use by 10/12. Yeah I'm not using a bunch if fresh vegetables the day I recieve them. Package of salad greens was already wilted. Only refunded 2 of 3 items. Another item I didn't notice for a couple of days was expired and slimey. First time this has happened. It looks like someone intentionally picked stuff that would have been discarded 10 hours later. BTW.... The chat option does not work in the app. read more

Full-on torture chamber. we foolishly wound up in there again for our once-yearly reminder of why we don't shop at this hellhole. We were in the self check out, and of course, the pricing on the shelf is some bizarre tricky combination of items that apparently we did not meet. When we asked for help, a woman came along at the piece of a snail and said she'd have to go check the shelves. I've never seen anyone walk so slow in my life! Off she went-on a journey to seek clues to unlock the mysteries out the pricing I guess. There we were- left in the self check out corral with all of these horrible computers, making horrible sounds--one after the other. About 15 computer voices saying, some sort of things about 'how many store provided bags did you use, follow the instructions on the pin pad'. Hell. Awful. Oh my gosh. Absolutely a torture chamber, not to mention extremely high prices. We fled. Such a wretched place. Horrid experience. That store disrespects their customers in so many ways.
