Great service and great selection of groceries; however, the sidewalks, seating area, and parking lot need to be routinely cleaned (power washed). It is disgusting to see coagulated brown substances near the store entrance that remain for weeks and the dark sticky residue left to build up on the sidewalks and parking area which seems to be completely neglected is not a good look for our community or your storefront. I will not include photos, because I am not trying to embarrass this business. My hope is the manager of this store will take a look at the exterior of the store from a fresh perspective and set out to permanently resolve the issue. Tonight's visit has me not wanting to go back for a while. The service tonight was unfortunately rude. I went in for milk and coffee creamer and ended up seeing some marigolds that were visibly dying and I asked the self checkout clerk if I could receive a little bit of a discount. Her response was that if they aren't dead then you aren't getting a discount in a stern and no smile or customer service composure. I don't actually yelp stores but honestly I can't with this place anymore. I have lived within 1 mile of this store for 20 out of 30 of my years on this planet and have consistently shopped for groceries that whole time at this location. It went down hill after the merger and all the regulars have disappeared, maybe one or two left. Nothing is ever stocked anymore and they all pretend like they can't go check in the back for more, "if we had it, it would be on the shelf"...I've worked in grocery stores and I wasn't born yesterday I know that's not how it works. Kids pushing mops scrolling their phones... management here has given up. The store is on autopilot. Usually I just buy what I can and leave annoyed. Von's is very fortunate to have an employee by the name of Jen, on their winning team. When I suffered from a major fracture of my wrist and forearm, she took a personal interest in volunteering to assist me by taking by groceries out and loading them in my vehicle. She did this without asking and provided the utmost customer service ever. The other day I needed to purchase items from the deli to create a charcuterie board. Jen was there and recommended some very delicious products that were definitely a hit. Love this Von's! I usually end up coming here at least once a week (and have done so for the last 2 years), and I've never had a difficult or unpleasant experience. Love how clean and organized the store always is, and every staff member here is so helpful and kind. It's clear that the store does its best, and I appreciate all of their efforts. I noticed a lot of chatter on recent reviews re: Vons' non-requirement for masks, and while I realize it is a sensitive subject, there are far more businesses than just Von's that aren't making it a mandatory practice. I believe that the only nearby grocery store requiring masks for entry might be Trader Joe's, so I would politely suggest that these concerned citizens take their business there instead, if this makes them feel more safe. read more

Grabbed a package of cinnamon rolls today and this is what I got! Went to the customer service desk talked to Kathy who said " it could have been dropped today " she then just walked away. I am absolutely appalled, not that it was a broken package but that the package had so much mold pouring out of it! That amount of mold does not happen in one day nor a week in a refrigerated area! When they stock they're supposed to rotate this is obviously not happening and neither is any customer service! There was no oh I'm so sorry this happened or anything. I don't think I've ever had so much fun in a grocery store. Maybe it was my crazy sister making me laugh at random stuff, maybe it was the vacation high I was on, maybe it was all the really cool non-food items for sale, maybe it was even the cute guy who helped me pick the right shrimp, either way, this store was one of the best supermarkets I've been too. Came in here recently on vacation to pick up some food for our stay and was pleasantly surprised by all this store has to offer. All the aisles were well stocked and clean. The store had everything on our list (but our list was just basics: milk, bread, eggs, hotdogs, cheese, tortillas, etc.) except firewood. The staff was friendly. And apparently so are the other patrons (yes, a cute guy helped me pick out the right shrimp--shell-on, EZ peel is the kind you want, not whole shrimp! )But the coolest thing in the store was all the non-food items. Giant blow-up unicorn floaties for the pool? Check. Highlighter chalk pen for the kids? Check. Really cool wood cookware? Check. Adorable Christmas decorations? Check! Awesome Mexican blankets/towels for the beach? Check!!!!!! When I worked for Vons customers service was the number 1 thing we needed to strive for. Making sure your customer leaves happy. Well that didn't happen to me not once but twice in 2 days. Not going into major detail except if you don't pay attention to their sale items, you will get ripped off. It almost happened to me yesterday and when I pointed this out to a store employee she argued with me on the pick 4 mix or match. I even showed her the sales app and she got mad and went an got the manager and I got the same thing from her. I walked out and left everything. Had to go back again today to pick up a prescription. I shop at Vons often, as it is close and convenient to my home. There is a Starbucks inside, which is great for me. I can buy a coffee and shop. Today I am reviewing the deli and bakery, although all of the staff in all departments are excellent. I ordered several deli trays for a baby shower I hosted. The deli has a great selection, and I felt the price was great for a tray of delicious hoagies and a tray of pinwheel sliced wraps. I ordered the baby shower cake at the bakery. The cake was simple but tasty and affordable. You only need to give 24 hours notice, so that is nice to know for last minute plans. read more

The reason I shop at Vons is only because it's convenient until this last time. I Purchased prosciutto at the deli counter which I had her slice I also purchased a wheel of brie. When I got home and unwrap the prosciutto it was old stale dried out you would think the person slicing it would have noticed that but she did not I had to throw it away. Then I open the brie and it was brown and had an order so I had to throw that away I'm so tired of buying things from Vons that's old outdated and I have to throw away. Everyone... please double and triple check your grocery pick up orders if you do them online. I've done this three times and all three times they have forgotten items. Not cheap items either. When I call they always say "oh yeah... I have them right here." Can you tell me why three times, I've had to call you and you don't just call me an say "hey, I forgot to put a bag in your car." This Vons in grover beach is very crowed with people, with all that is going on right now with this virus, they should have more control in how many people to allow in the store at one time, very poor management or what, or they just don't care about the customers or employees. I had gone into the store to get a few things, lines every where people were not social distancing, as well as the employees, also they were not going in the direction they should be in the aisles, people bumping into each other, just a total mess. I don't think even half the people were wearing a mask, thank goodness I was. I was looking at something, and this man was so close to me that when he coughed I could feel it, he was not wearing a mask. He was rude when I ask him to back away you are to close. I felt so uncomfortable in the store that I just left my cart and stuff there and walked out. This store is a total disaster right now, very hazardous, no excuse for it, no excuse at all... Bakery section had a good selection to choose from. I selected a 8 inch 1 layer fudge cake for $6.99. Got to say that it didn't taste half bad. Solid 3 stars! Really disappointed in this store lately.. Unfortunately, we haven't many options in this county. I guess they know that, so they don't have to try to please the customer. The store is ALWAYS super crowded lately, they have run out of many things we've wanted to buy, and the aisles are often clogged with carts of employees stocking the shelves. How about stocking during store closing or early in the morning? There are always long lines for checkout, not enough cashiers.. The last several times I've been in, I've had to bag my own groceries because there doesn't seem to be enough staff. Once, not too long ago, I didn't have enough bags and the cashier was nice enough to give me one paper bag since I had already bagged most everything myself. The same thing happened today, I needed just one more bag. The cashier, who is a supervisor, asked me if I wanted to buy another bag. Seriously?? I just bagged all my own stuff and you still can't give me one bag that likely costs you way less than the ten cents you charge for it??? I like and use this store all the time & would normally give 4 stars. But the other day I saw that a customer had placed her dog (obviously not a therapy animal) in the cart where the food goes. Yuck! I know staff probably hesitated to intervene, but really, a dog with who knows what on it's feet/fur in the cart where you put food. If the dog had to be with owner, then at least on a leash walking alongside. Would appreciate if this practice could be stopped. Otherwise, the re-model of the store is great, products good and staff is friendly and helpful. Updating: I mentioned this problem to a friend who took off running with it. She spoke with the manager at Vons, Sean/Shawn and he was already on top of it. Had ordered signs a few days ago and once the signs are there will put them up and enforce the 'no pet' in store policy. Very large grocery store, organic vegetables were easy to find and identify. Unfortunately the cashier reached into my bag of apples and peaches to touch my fruit and peel off the sticker! I let her know I wish she told me she needed to do that as she I touching money all day. She informed me that I could wash my fruit. Nice! May sound funny but never heard of Von's until now. Glad to find out it was basically a Safeway using the same reward card system. We loaded up with beer and grill goodies to take back to camp. I was visiting the area on a family vacation and we rented on a nearby home. The store was well kept and easy to navigate even as someone just visiting the area. The bakery was well stocked and had a large assortment of pastry and dessert items. I came in for some ice cream for the house as well as a few forgotten items like a toothbrushes and sunblock. Glad to see this Von's stocks so many great local products, like Ray's Own brand sausage and Brian's Sourdough Bread. And FOUR STARS because this Von's store has HANDS DOWN the BEST PHARMACY around, I switched years ago after being inconvenienced time and again by the ineptness of two other drug store chain pharmacies nearby, one of which continues to inconvenience a family member who hasn't yet switched to Von's!!! BETTER yet, I walked in today and was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar pair of twinkling, merry eyes above her mask -- Jennifer, whose last name is perfect for her -- Sweet, my favorite former checker at another grocery store down the street (which I and many others have stopped patronizing because of its obnoxious and insulting attitudes regarding masks)! She's not a checker at Von's yet, but I hope Von's keeps her because she's definitely fast, professional, and brightens pretty much the world around her, even just grocery shopping. This has got to be the filthiest grocery store I've ever been into !! The minute I walked in I saw dust bunnies, old receipts and rubbish all over the floor. Used toothpicks , a dirty chopstick and bits of food strewn about. The meat department looked like a zombie outbreak ready to happen. Stickers from old meat drenched in blood still stuck on the shelves and brown meat proudly on display. Head over to the produce section and it was just as ghastly! The corn bin was all husks and few old corns . Take a peek under the displays and see years of grime. And finding somebody to help is out of the question. Avoid this store ! Take your business to California Fresh, food for less or even a road side produce stand . You guys should be embarrassed to be so gross ! read more
