I'm giving this Food 4 Less five stars, no question. I didn't even come here planning to do a full grocery run. It was supposed to be a quick stop, more of a grab a snack and get out situation, and somehow I ended up just walking around impressed. This is hands down one of the nicest and largest Food 4 Less locations I've ever been to. Everything felt open, well stocked, and surprisingly calm. Coming from LA, this location felt like it was kind of in the middle of nowhere compared to what I'm used to, but that actually made the experience better. It felt less chaotic, less rushed, and honestly refreshing. I kept thinking how lucky the people who live nearby are to have this as their go to grocery store. The aisles were wide, the layout made sense, and nothing felt picked over or messy. It's one of those places where you don't feel stressed shopping, which says a lot for a grocery store. What really got me was how what started as a quick errand turned into an easy snack run plus browsing. It was clean, organized, and just overall a pleasant place to be. Sometimes you forget how much environment matters until you walk into a store like this and realize how smooth everything feels. If this were closer to me, I'd absolutely come here more often. Honestly, Food for Less is the worst place to buy alcohol. They ask for ID every single time, no exceptions. It doesn't matter if you clearly look over 21--even if you have a tattoo that literally says you're over 21, they still won't accept it. On top of that, they'll even ask everyone with you for ID, including your own kids, even when it's obvious they're not the ones buying or drinking. The policies feel over the top and make the whole experience frustrating and unnecessary. read more

I have to give a huge shoutout to Jake at Food 4 Less in Arroyo Grande. Every time he's the one handling my grocery pickup orders, everything goes smoothly -- he's thorough, accurate, and always makes sure my order is ready on time. Honestly, anytime my order hasn't been assigned to Jake, things have gone sideways. Between the store's spotty internet connection and the app being new (and honestly kind of glitchy), it's not always easy to shop here. I've even thought about switching to Walmart for pickup -- but the truth is, Walmart doesn't have Jake. He's the reason I stick with Food 4 Less. Jake makes a frustrating system actually work, and that kind of reliability deserves recognition. Thank you, Jake, for consistently doing such a great job! read more

What could improve is first of all have a better manager we get in line then I look at my ticket when everything's already in the bags and I say wait a minute they overcharged on the cheese it's on sale so I went to the customer service right across from where you self check out a lady just standing there. We tell her is anybody in customer service oh no I go when we were overcharged on something. Well you need to get back in line I go what do you mean we need to get back in line in the line was long. She wasn't even doing anything. She was just standing there then the poor cash register girl who happened to be on her cell phone when we even walked up has to go all the way to the back of the store to check for it while in the meantime, the lady just still standing there by the self checkout and no one's even There, and I asked the girl who's a manager she says the one standing over there at the self checkout you need a new manager. There are a few items with good prices but overall they need go change their franchise name. Never met an employee, including any manager, that was kind or pleasant at this store. I don't recommend at all. Not a friendly place and the prices are on par with Vons and California Fresh for the same rotting produce and similar generic low quality brands. No customer service skills to be found! The store itself is okay but nothing to write home about. On the other hand, the customer service is totally missing; and for this small community, can they really afford to be indifferent, unavailable, and downright rude at times? I only go there when I need something that other stores do not have. I literally have to gear-up to shop there as I know how unfriendly and indifferent their staff is. If you are looking for friendly employees, you will be sorely disappointed! I would rather pay a bit more and be treated decently than go there and be completely ignored or worse, treated poorly. The cashiers stand around and talk to each other while completely ignoring customers. This I have seen repeatedly. And if you dare ask a question or for help with something, they get put-out, as though they are doing you a favor. With the exception of two helpful young girls, no one in that store seems to like working there. In fact, I think they banned smiling! Makes me wonder if the employees all transferred over from the local airport where they worked as TSA agents. We know how people-oriented TSA is and how much they just love their jobs!! I only shop here occasionally due to how busy and time consuming it is to come here. The grocery prices are better in comparison to other stores, which is why I still come, however, it is almost not worth the headache of this store. It's nice that they have a self check out area now, however, they treat everyone like preschoolers when it comes to bags. If you want to buy a bag for 10 cents, you have to scan EVERYTHING FIRST and put it all onto the other side of the scanner before they'll give you a bag. Then the guy has to bring the bags over and put "charge for 1 bag" and tells you to mark "confirm" to make sure you're paying for it and not stealing bags. It's literally so annoying unloading all of the groceries from the cart to scan and not bag them right away. Especially since I shop with my baby. I won't be coming back for a while. I can't stand how strict they are now about the bags. Trust your customers that they aren't going to steal your 10 cent bags for the love of God. read more

I am updating my review. Although, I still don't find the employees to be very friendly or helpful, I did have an opportunity to speak with a gal who was checking, but is "really the manager?" When I told her of my experience with the gentleman who was "the manager" the other day, she apologized and thanked me for coming in and giving the store another chance. She agreed that I should have not been treated the way I was and said that she would speak with the people involved. They have sanitizer and wipes as you enter the door for you shopping carts.. today when I arrived I noticed a surge of shoppers presumably here for "thanksgiving" but I also noticed the store has placed some popular items front and center upon entry where people usually walk now so many not following social distancing during code purple it's disturbing. Beyond this you find a huge selection of eatables decent selection of international fruits and vegetables. This store has all the basic necessities. You might not find rare gourmet jams but you can be sure you leave with a decent amount of food that won't empty your wallet and you can eat and sleep knowing you've survived another day. read more

I see them constantly failing our community. Their popular ahi poke has increased in price over 62% over the last two years (this increase is absolutely ridiculous and beyond any market pricing). With there being 0 options to get groceries after 10 pm in this area, if your website says you're open until 12am, you need to be open until 12am. Not 11:48pm. The fact that I had to race here after work to grab my kids school lunches for the next day and the lady at the door says to me while closing it in my face, " yeah.. idk who you'd talk to about that." Chuckling and somewhat hiding behind said door... unbelievably unprofessional, inconsiderate to fellow business owners and operators who faithfully support this establishment and to tired, single parent who just needs bacon and lunchables. Extremely clean and updated Food 4 Less. Upon entry, their produce section was beautiful. The abundance of options was apparent and everything looked to be perfectly ripe. This Food 4 Less had a hot deli offering chicken strips and other fried goodies which was awesome, as I had never seen that before in any other Food 4 Less. They were very busy, but had a lot of cashiers, so one could not fault them on the wait time. I did not see any employees on the floor, which can be hard if someone can not find an item they need. read more

My first (and last) time visiting this store in AG. I thought maybe the prices were lower than other stores but that didn't seem to be the case. I was also really not impressed with the staff, particularly the young man at the register. Zero people skills. No greeting or any interaction other than, "I need your ID." and "How many bags do you want?" Estimating the # of bags you might need when he's not even halfway done scanning my items seems odd so I said "two, please." He handed me two and since I had brought 1 reusable bag with me, I only ended up needing one but I figured I would err on the side of caution. No "thanks" or "have a good day." Just robotically went on to the next customer in line. I am not expecting anyone to be overly effusive and I am sure being a store clerk is not his dream job, but I would suggest a tiny bit of customer service training and reminding staff that the people in the store are paying your salary. I've worked in sales and customer service for many years and I know it's not always easy to find good help, but this young man might want to find another occupation because this is clearly not his forte! Terrible service. My cashier was so snarky. Ask a simple question, get an eye roll and vague directions. How dare I ask her! As a foster parent, we have WIC coupons to use. Selected several items that Food 4 Less tagged as WIC approved. Cashier and supervisor Rodney both say no they are not allowed. Mind you I have been buying the same items for 3 months. Rodney always says that they'll update the signage. Still haven't. Ask to speak to a manager and Rodney says you can see him at 4am. Seriously? Ask when he is available, Rodney doesn't know. Why are you a supervisor? Kroger, your staff is terrible. You have competition in town now. The days for this oversized poorly stocked store are numbered. I gave her 2 dimes and she continued to stand in front of my bags. When i went to get my bags she accused me of pushing her. Then another male worker came and said i saw you push her. I will not put any stars because of two of their employees and their manager. They violated my husband's civil disability rights and when they caught on that I filed a report with the ADA they started telling tales and claiming THEY did nothing wrong. My husband wears a medical device on his back to carry his OXYGEN, it is made for the small oxygen tanks, anyways, he was in the produce section getting some green onions when an employee named Marlene approached my husband and told him that he can't have a backpack in the store, mind you, you can clearly see the air line coming out of the bag, very visible. My husband told her that it was his Oxygen that he needs, she replied " you STILL have to leave it at the register" WHAT ???? Tracy the Assistant manager told him "when you come into the store come by the register and let us know " I DON'T think so!!!! My husband doesn't need a " hallway" pass to bring his medical n into the store, so as far as I'm concerned, they violated his civil disability rights and when the manager, Brandon was confronted with the facts, he tried to tell me that he was not violated and his employees were the victims!?!? There's more to the story, but this is the core to the story ! These two employees LIED about everything and he backed them up also adding more lies to the story so as far as I'm concerned this store is not a very good place to shop when the employees and the manager lie ALSO Tracy got nasty with my husband when he told her that it was a good thing that I wasn't there (me, his wife) s Tracy told my husband "BRING IT ON" which she denies ever saying, they all make me physically ill, own up to what you did because Karma is a problem!!!! I will be waiting for the ADA to contact me, they said it can take up to 3 months I'm very protective of my husband and he's very ill, he has 3 lung diseases and is a Veteran who is 66 yrs. old, I hope that all involved are proud of what they have done, I will be waiting for a good outcome so this store and many other businesses in the area, so I've heard, CAN NO longer violate the disabled people in our community!!!! read more

Great low or everyday prices on a whole host of veges, dairy, and other items. 24/7 even! As the location has seemed to have cycled thru 2+ different supermarkets over time, this seems to be one of the best deals in the area. Many of the vege & fruit items are lower than even the low prices at Smart & Final...or even the amazing Grocery Outlet. They even may be less than Ralphs. The other day, they had super sweet & fresh corn for 57 cents each...and since they were like desert, we will be back for more. Sometimes items can be in 2-3 different locations, like cheese. They do have deli sized bulk huge sizes of Johnson cheese, including there very good Mozzarella. This is great for make a lower fat pan/oil free "grilled" cheese sandwich in a toast oven. While it is usually about $16 for a 5 lb. loaf, I just spied it on sale for $12. While big cheeses loafs can be found at a few other places, this is the only one with easily sliceable Mozzarella. While the also have the softer more delicate cheese balls, I opt for the cheaper version at GO. They do have the butcher in on Sat from 5AM to 2PM for special orders I heard, so that is a nice option. While I am not sure if they will do it, I would like to get fresh lean custom ground pork if I can. I generally have to go to several stores to get all that I need at decent prices. Ralph's is great for quarts of heavy cream & cheap organic veges...like Kale. Smart & Final has loafs of some cheese, tubs of Cottage Cheese, big loafs of Rye bread, and huge bags of some veges [like potatoes]. Grocery Outlet offerings are rather random or trial/error...sometimes you strike "gold"....which sells out quick or not [sadly many offering could be full of fat, salt, oil, sugar, or even stale...but often you can find a decent bottle of $4.99 wine. While Costko used to be a far better deal, I do like there big tubs of Cottage Cheese, Greek Yogurt, & 6 packs of Egg Whites...but more stuff is pricey Organic. WholePaycheck is even more ridiculous & careless eating out is costly. Unless there are specific reasons that you need to stop at Von's [Wine] or Cal-Fresh [Hot-meal specials, Juice Bar, Wine], they are generally overpriced. What is a high point of Food 4 Less is that they do list the produce prices as compared to Ralph's, & Vons. On the other hand, the usually stuff in the center lanes are not all that cheap. You are likely to do better with sales on paper goods in Costko or one sale somewhere else. One high point that is very noticeable here, is that it seems cleaner & brighter than the SLO store. The staff here is friendly & you can also shop nearby at TJ's, TJ Max, Walmart, Blaze, GNC, & more. While there is easy access to the 101, some of the drivers that are near the Walmart can be hired for a Mad Max movie or two. On the other hand, they are not as crazied as drivers around a 99 Ranch market. If you want lower prices on bulk beans, herbs, & offal...you need to head to Santa Maria to the largest Mexican oriented supermarkets. read more

When my family first came to the states, we lived nearby a Food Maxx and did all of our grocery shopping there. Then we moved and I have been a die-hard Trader Joe's & Costco shopper for the past decade. Despite my love for Costco's unbeatable bargains and Trader Joe's amazing European treats, I am slowly adding this Food 4 Less into my regular rotation because some deals here are just too good to pass up. I am particularly pleased with prices on produce. However, keep in mind that you will not find many organic items here so you have to be open to buying regular stuff and hoping you won't grow a third eye from those gmos or pesticides. Of course, this store is geared toward lower income bracket thus it does not have a focus on health foods. I like that this particular location is very clean and the staff is pleasant. Love this grocery store. Easy in, easy out. They are never out of what's on my list. Employee at the entrance was friendly, pleasant and provided me with a sanitized basket. Person at the produce department greeted me and asked if I needed help. Deli department waved as I walked by. I feel like these employees really enjoy working here. Their happy attitude makes me feel like they are becoming my friends. Deven, my cashier, even remembered me which made my day. This is why I will return and recommend Food 4 Less. Today I stopped into Food 4 Less really quick to grab a few items. After purchasing everything, I realize the conditioner I had grabbed was open and seems to be used. I returned to the aisle and swapped it out for the same conditioner and walked back through the checkout line, I had previously checked out through. I threw my receipt away in the garbage can line as I exited the store. Seconds later, a man ran out after me yelling that I needed to pay for my items and see my receipt. He did not identify himself until I asked if he was a police officer and continued to yell in my face and accuse me of stealing. At this point, I went back inside with him where my receipt was shown, and I asked to speak with a manager. She was NOT Apologetic about the situation AND BASICALLY TOLD ME IT WAS MY OWN FAULT. And defended him saying he was legally allowed to detain me. NEVER COME HERE. read more

I was surprised by the low ratings. We popped in on our way home to grab a couple items which turned into quite a few after finding things we could get other places and done great deals! Here's our take. 1. This is a warehouse style store which typically means you are on your own because that's how they keep prices down. Besides stocking things warehouse style. For more personal service you go to Bel-Air, Raley's , Albertsons they pride themselves on customer service. 2. It was a extremely clean. Having been in many warehouse-type grocery-stores we were very impressed. 3. The store was very well stocked. Try going to a Walmart and seeing it priced ( ie you know all the prices are marked correctly) and stocked as well with items being in stock and in correct place. 4. Prices I guess it depends on what you are shipping for. We found chocolate chips that sell for over 5$ a bag at Albertsons for under 3$ a bag. Cereal seemed comparable to other places if not less dependent upon your preferences. Baking goods were less than what I just paid at other places recently. Dairy also was comparable to Albertsons 5. Employees the ones we saw were busy stocking and actually seemed to be enjoying working there. The cashier was nice enough. 6. Layout. Yes it's a bit awkward however if you go to other warehouse style stores most of them are ... Winco, Costco, ( although Costco has improved their layouts) just to name a couple. 7. Produce today the produce looked comparable to Vons. And I was able to get nice thick asparagus stalks for 1.88$ a pound and not those skinny shoestring little things score! Yeah I give them 4 stars based on cleanliness, well stocked well marked items, selection of items, prices and lastly the produce. We bypassed meat. read more
