Since the owners of the Grover Beach Sourdough bakery recently opened a restaurant for breakfast and lunch, we decided to give it a try. It's a great place. - Overall: 5 - Location: 4 - Ambiance: 5 - Menu: 4 - Food: 5 - Service: 5 - Price and Value: 5 - Parking: 4 - Location: On Grand Avenue 2 blocks off Highway 1...across from their former restaurant, Spoon Trade. It's most convenient if you're near "1" and less so as you get farther away. - Ambiance: Like a "bistro" or cafe. It's not big - 32 seats at various tables - but still feels open and kind of contemporary. - Menu: Small, but interesting. This isn't Denny's with endless choices. There were about 10 choices at lunch...including several items for vegetarians. - Food: Exquisite. People rave about breakfast...but this was 1230 PM on a Friday for lunch. I (and another of the 4 people) had an "open face tuna melt" ($20). Everything was fresh and top of the line quality. My wife ordered Avocado Toast, but they just ran out of avocado (a very busy day) so she also had the Tuna Melt. She said "best I ever had". She's prone to making statements like that, but it was fine. The 4th friend in our group had the Vegetable Hash ($23) and literally cleaned his plate. We also took two 9 ounce containers ($16 each) of their "Soup Of The Day"...Vegan Butternut Squash...home for dinner AND went next door to the bakery and bought 4 chocolate chip cookies. By 130 PM, pickings were pretty slim (they close around 2 PM). - Service: Very friendly and helpful. In fact, the owners - a husband and wife team - worked the floor to ensure everything and everybody was fine. - Price and Value: Perfectly reasonable. - Parking: Some on the street...but most behind the building. Sure wish we'd know sooner, but so glad to have found it now. This store is like a cross between TJ's and Whole Foods with a huge assortment of prepared foods and fair pricing. We went there three times in 2 weeks and loaded up on goodies such as take 'n' bake pizza, chili, and OF COURSE the clam chowder. We also hit the bakery pretty hard and thoroughly enjoyed the berry cobbler, along with a few other sweet treats. Location is easy to find, plenty of parking and service very friendly. Also, they have masa and fresh Mexican food items you wouldn't really find elsewhere like the pre-med masa base for the sopes, which are cheap and delish! Also they have some really great store-made salsas. They also have a lb of chorizo for less than $2 in their refrigerated section. I haven't t tried their meat department yet, but I will definitely have to come back to try them. So if you want quality, good prices and a small authentic Mexican grocery store, come here. I finally asked an employee if they could unlock the customer bathroom door because whoever was in there wasn't responding to the knocks. No . Then I said I was going to call 911 since apparently somebody was passed out in the bathroom. So then she reluctantly unlocked the door and it was empty. So I guess they just don't want to open this bathroom to the public. Ok, Just be honest about it, and don't have me wait. RUDE. Cruel. So to the other customers, be warned, don't wait or ask, the manager and cashiers will lie and just hope you eventually leave. I hope the owners read this and decide to change this bizarre policy.

The lady behind me decided to push my cart down the aisle. Honestly the worker should have been more alert and moved her cart so people could easily get through the aisle. Not only is it excessively complicated but it's just not integrated properly on a consistent basis. Three of the last four visits I've had to question whether or not it was successful. "Did we scan the app? Yes. "Did you download the specific digital coupons?" Yes, of course I did, I'm not stupid. "Let me get a manager". Holy cow! Three times I've had to un-bag my complete order to have it rescanned and credit given. $20-$30 back has been the norm. The managers do a good job. I've asked them if this goes on often. Under their breath they mention to me "yes, constantly". This has been a nightmare for the past 4-5 years. What I don't want is a quirky response from the marketing "Business Manager" about how sorry they are. What I, and so many countless other customers want, is for this horrible and, quite frankly, highly illegal, practice to be corrected. Not next year, not tomorrow but today! Survey your people fighting this issue front line with irate customers. Do it now.
