We have been begrudgingly gone to JJ's due to it's exceptional meat counter and proximity to the Mesa for years. Most staff are not just unfriendly, but rude on a regular basis. The prices are very high on packaged goods and their produce is below par. For awile, the attitudes seemed to get better. There are a few new faces that were friendlier. But the negativity is back and running rampant. This morning we needed coffee. The cashier was so rude, really short, no smile and the box of coffee pods was $16 to boot! Word to the wise. Don't go in 30 minutes before the store is closing. They rudely yell it at you when you walk in. Vons is only another 6 minutes away. read more

Meat department is a complete scam! My family and I moved to the Central Coast a little over a year ago. We visit JJ's as our neighborhood store and little by little the beauty has worn off to show a rotten core. The meat department always cuts corners and has now harmed my professional reputation. Short version of the story is I hosted a BBQ at my home for potential clients. My guests traveled from Asia, seeking to invest millions into my company and they deserved the best. One bite into the ribeye steak and they spit it out. The meat was "freezer burned" from long-term storage in a freezer at JJs Market. It was probably a ribeye roast that was cleaned up to become a ribeye steak. It looked perfect, but was pure garbage. Money refund??? Who cares!!! I was embarrassed beyond belief and took clients immediately to my favorite steakhouse. Never, never, visit this place. read more

I stuck with JJ's because it is a small town market and I wanted to support it. Stuck through when 6 times the milk was spoiled the next morning even though the "sell by" date was 5-9 days away. Stuck through the produce being awful-I could not find one avocado that wasn't bruised. Stuck with them when they discontinued 2 of my favorite brands. Stuck with them when they no longer had anything not processed from the deli. But today was it. It appears a female employee did not like their meal from Panda express and put it into a JJ's container and in the case with 2 tbsp. of rock hard rice. It was inedible and the label was hand written. I have only seen males behind the deli counter so I don't have a clue who it could be. $8.00 wasted for this trip. I would rather overpay for Von's merchandise. I gave it 2 years! Bye. read more

Great neighborhood market. Friendly, helpful staff. You can get most anything there, but number of brands may limit some of your choices. The deli is very good, including the daily smoked tri tip, chicken and ribs. The dinner specials are quite tasting and a great value. read more

JJ's Market is absolutely amazing!!! You can't go wrong grabbing some of the homemade pasta or some other barbecue items!!! Directions to burritos are absolutely killer, my favorite pasta is going to be the spinach, tomato pasta !!!! I like JJ's. I do have to say that chef Steve can be super grumpy and rude to people, lol. He's never been to me but I've seen him jump on people for no reason. Last time some poor lady tried to order a dinner plate and Steve told her she needed a reservation but said it so rude and the lady was so confused. You just have to catch him in a good mood, ha. It's too expensive for regular grocery shopping but I like to stop in for specialty items like wine. It's nice to pick up dinner from the deli on days I'm tired coming home from work and don't want to cook. read more

While I am happy that I do not have to shop here as a pure local...due to higher prices...I do appreciate some of their more unique selections. Lets face it, it is a rather pricey grocery in an out of the way area....but they do some things quite well. They also have a local baker who produces artisan baked goods. My wife absolutely loved the unique Raisin Multigrain Nut & Seeds bread, it is now her favorite bread of all time. It is labeled Glo's Goodies & they are way beyond good! Since my wife now treasures this bread, I will max out the stars & also check with JJ's to see when they get deliveries from this home kitchen. They are a quite decent Oak wood BBQ selection that they cook on-site. While they run out rather early, they do make a great effort to supply people with some good eats at a good price. They also have rotisserie chicken & they have sub-WF prices to boot. The people at the Deli counter are super-nice & eager to help. While you would imagine that they would have tons of Farm fresh produce in their produce department...since they are surrounded by Farms...you would be wrong. They mostly have the usual Supermarket stuff that while being fresh, is not local....but they do have a quite decent local wine selection. Their eggs are local & so are some other things....so you do need to explore. They happened to have an excellent Carrot Souffle, local bread, and a good deal on fresh Angel Hair pasta...as well as a locally canned Morro Bay can of Tuna....but beyond the odd wine or BBQ, they provide mostly a local way to avoid driving to Cal Fresh or even worse...Von's. Since I live several miles away, while it is fun for me to look for unusual items, I only go here if I am also going to hit Rutiz Farm's stand or other nearby places...like Okui's. It is a nice drive up Halycon, the produce road, as you smell broccoli or other related veggies growing. There is a mild sulfur compound smell as you drive thru the fields. If I did live nearby, I guess I would appreciate them so much more...there grocery is super-clean, the staff is friendly, and the goods are fresh....and it is not that much more than Von's in Grover. Just across the street from them is a gas station where there is yet another road side strawberry stand. All-in-all, it is a fun place to visit to find an unusual item or two. It is worth a trip to check out the Deli, local items, and local wine section. They do pack alot in their smallish store, and you can find lots of essentials. Everything appears fresh & clean. I love going to JJ's to get the black lake go atleast 3 times a week to get a sandwich and fries spend about 15$ every time I go in today I went in and got the same thing but to my surprise I was short 20 cents I had a rude cashier named Greg give me a hard time and put me on blast in front of everyone and when I offered to leave an item and apologize for being short 20 cents he decided to raise his voice and tell me I'm not and calling me liar and told me I wasn't sorry and to figure it out even though I told him I could run to my car and get the 20 cents he continued to tell me to just grab my food and leave in a rude tone of voice super disrespectful!!!! read more

If you're driving through or staying in the area for some time like I was JJ's is a pretty decent community market to visit and pick up some essentials. I was pleased to find a variety of plant based/ vegan options from plant based milks, creamers, breakfast and frozen food items. I am fairly new to the area and I frequent JJ's quite often. They have a great selection of goods, the deli is great and they have very good quality on veggies and fruits. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I'm very grateful for the convenience and quality of this market. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the prices on non-sale items are quite high. read more

This is a great grocery store by Highway 1. I live relatively close to the store, and go there about once a week. They have pretty much anything you are looking for, however, prices are a little on the high side. The staff make up for the prices though, everyone is always nice and helpful. The staff and most customers are very COVID safe as well. Will keep coming back for a long time! read more

We moved to Nipomo from Los Angeles a little over a year ago. Found JJ's right away from a neighbor. What a great market! People there are so friendly and helpful! Meat department, deli and produce sections are very high quality. I will not buy chicken any place else if I can help it. For some reason JJ's chicken tastes the best. Their fresh fish is really fresh too. The store has a very nice selection of wines and liquor. We recently tried one of the dinners they have available Monday through Friday. Huge portion of delicious Shepard's pie with salad and roll for $9.99. We ordered two and had dinner for two for two nights. These folks take pride in what they do and it shows. Recently had a party for 25 people. Christine catered beautiful sandwich platters. They were a real hit. She is fantastic. I especially like how everybody there is happy. Try the bbq sometime. Jjs market is such a cute little town store. They are a little pricy (that's why I am putting 4 stars instead of 5) but their deli is great! And the prices there are pretty fair. I definitely recommend them to everyone! On fridays they have a steak dinner for about $8-12 (depending on the steak cut) usually comes with a roll, vegetables and mash potatoes or baked potato. read more

I recently moved to the Mesa and find myself at JJ's at least two days out of the week. They have a great deli that I always take full advantage of it. They BBQ ribs and tri tip every day that you can buy on its own or as a meal. They're available to make custom sandwiches as soon as they open every day so I can easily snag some great food for lunch on my way to work. I was informed that they're prices are steep which is to be expected for a local grocery store. However, I've found that they actually have some fantastic deals on a lot of stuff. You just have to keep your eyes peeled. Especially in the meat department. Filet mignon for $6.99/lb? Yeah... that happened. I love the atmosphere and the staff is always so helpful and friendly. I only had one lame experience with a deli worker that seemed annoyed with me when I wanted to order a sandwich. Another employee took over for her and said that the girl's shift was supposed to have ended 10 min earlier and her attitude was due to having to stay late. I can't knock her for that. I think we've all been in her shoes at one time or another. And every time I've seen her since then she's been more than pleasant. Ive rambled enough. This place really is great. What a fantastic Market that we found. They have a lot of specialty items in the store. They have something called Frog Balls which are marinated brussel sprouts. We bought a jar of spicy asparagus and spicy beans. We are going to go back and get the Frog Balls for sure. I'm going to try a couple of their ribs for my lunch as they look very tasty. Stopped by here during a vacation because they were the closest grocery store. It's a quaint little market that has a pretty decent selection of goods. The staff was really friendly during my stop here and parking was plentiful. Their prices for me was pretty outrageous. I don't know if it's just the area (doubtful), but prices here were at least twice what I'm used to paying. Like a normal size box of Cheez-Its was $5 on sale. I'd come back here again if I absolutely had to, but it was really weird paying Hawaii prices on the Central Coast. read more

First, I just want to say everyone that works at JJ's is helpful, friendly and smiling! That alone is reason enough to keep me coming back. Their inventory has gotten significantly better since Albertsons/Haggen closed for good. Probably because that only left the area with two other grocery options and they are both mediocre on their best day. The deli counter makes delicious sandwiches and salads. You can purchase what they have premade, call ahead and order or order at the counter and they quickly put it together. Someone mans the oak pit barbecue daily and cooks up some tasty Santa Maria style tri-tip and ribs! It's great having a store close by on the mesa! read more

I have been shopping at JJ's since they opened. The staff is reliable, friendly, and all seem to know exactly the isle an location of stock. The selections are very good. Meats, particularly Tri Tip, is always high quality. Produce is fresh and easy to find. They have some excellent wines. Prices are a bit higher for some products as expected from a small local market. Always have few outstanding buys. Have recommended it to numerous family members and friends. read more

On our road trip we stopped at a small antique shop and in the parking lot there was a gentleman grilling something that smelled great. We headed that way and he belonged to the adjacent market. It was spectacular inside. The deli had everything including the items from the bbq outside. There were a multitude of sides seriously like 30 choices. The marinated green olives were phenomenal. This store was huge and had tons of local artesian products. This is the kind of store that makes you wish you lived in the community. Definitely stop here. read more
