What is wrong with this Vons? Today was its last chance and it failed. We're in the middle of an incredible agricultural area and the quality of the produce it carries is consistently disappointing. First item picked up was a bag of mandarins and I had a handful of juice. Four tries later and every bag had bad fruit. Walked away to the strawberries and they were covered in mold. I turned around and walked out. I'm done with this Vons. At least I discovered before I got home. With the farmers markets, Smart & Final, Target and Ralphs, we've got plenty of options. Dear Dir Kevin, I am writing this to express my disappointment and frustration with the behavior of one of your clerks, Dustin, at the SLO VONs store on Friday, April 21, 2023. At around 4:30 - 5 pm on Friday, I visited the store to purchase some beverages, and I filled my cart with ice tea in a wine carrier. However, to my surprise, I noticed that Dustin was following me around the store while talking over the radio, mentioning that I looked suspicious and fishy. I found this behavior very disrespectful and offensive because I believe that Dustin presumed that I was trying to steal something due to my color. Furthermore, when I asked him what he was doing as he went through my stuff in the cart while I was in the restroom, he replied, "Never mind" and walked away, leaving me feeling violated and disrespected. When I tried taking picture he turn around and flip his Finger at me. I am writing to request that you take immediate action and address this behavior from your staff. It is not acceptable for your clerks to harass and stalk customers, especially without any valid reason or evidence. I urge you to train your staff better and ensure that they treat all customers with respect and dignity, regardless of their color or appearance. The Vons butcher-does he even have clear vision? My steaks were over an inch thick-who can even eat that?? On top of that. The steaks said they were packaged day of, but yet, the steaks still were growing old and turning brown. Very little selection. Maybe 5 ribeyes and 5 New Yorks, the rest just thrown together tenderloins. Every steak was to thick, purely cut, and just not up to standard. Very upsetting. I will NEVER do an online pickup order ever at VONS? I got home to find that the Bolthouse Organic Carrot Juice I bought today (07/09/2024) was dated 04/30/2024. A FieldRoast Chipotle dated JULY12, 2024, normally they are months out. They are sneaking expired items into people's pickup orders. I have not checked everything I put away yet. Now I am afraid the 2 lbs of salmon I bought is rot. There is a wilted cucumber. Last day to sell cut watermelon was today. Distilled Water has no problems! Not even leaking! On side note, the Signature Sourdough Baguette is foul tasting. I do not recommend. I am disabled. Live 45 miles north of SLO Vons but was on my way to leg surgery in Pismo Beach with my driver. I go once a week for a while until my leg heals. I usually more easily get to Albertsons in Morro Bay, as I do not drive due to disability and need a driver. I live in Cambria. There was this Vons guy stalking me all over the store while I was waiting for my driver to return from her nearby doctor appointment at which time I scheduled my online Vons pickup. Weird. My wife called to order a bouquet of flowers for delivery. She wanted a big beautiful arrangement to congratulate a coworker who got a promotion. The florist said she needed to go on the app and told her how to place the order. My wife even included an online note of what she wanted. My wife called the florist back after placing the order to make sure it was as she wanted. Her friend called to thank her and showed my wife what was delivered. It was not a big beautiful bouquet in a vase as my wife had requested. It was individual packs of flowers sent. Nothing nice as requested. My wife called the florist who she spoke with before and after the online ordering. She said that my wife ordered wrong and there was nothing she could do. We definitely will not be getting anything from that Vons florist again and would recommend the same for anyone considering ordering from them. read more

The store is only ok. I'm happy they have shredded Monterey jack but I'm sad they don't have any crema. That was frustrating. Also, their watermelon is terrible. However, the thing that makes the store better than just "eh" are workers. I had really really great and friendly service from karson today. He told me about the vons app and helped me find bacon. He was lovely. The guy working the meat counter was also lovely. He was friendly and personable and was a pleasure to get my breakfast sausage from. The manager who was working right now.. name starts with a J was also really great. I only go to vons because they regularly have cherry Garcia ice cream, the meat dept is really good, and the staff are friendly. The remodel was pretty nice. read more

For this being my local grocery store, I sure don't get groceries here much. My husband does shop here and loves the BOGO and sales, but I find everything else pricey. I do stop in at the Starbucks once in a while. They do have a great selection of fruit and vegetables, including many exotic varieties. The flower shop and card sections also make it easy to pick up a gift if you are rushed for time. They also represent many of the local vineyards and alcohol purveyors, in a resplendent selection. The only time I actually shop here is when I am waiting for a prescription because I love the Pharmacy! They explain the medicines, and the pharmacist will even give you advice, if you ask. Best of all, they have Flu shot service in a little room off to the right side of the pharmacy counter for privacy! It is as good as going to a clinic! You also get 10% off your groceries when shopping if you get a shot there! If your doctor emails them a prescription, it shows up quickly and they fill it. They also have an AP where they will notify you when your prescriptions are due for a refill, and you can just indicate whether or not you want them refilled! Pros: -The people who work here are friendly and helpful -They have actual humans to check you out rather than the self check outs, which I much prefer Cons: -They are pricy. Meat especially is more expensive than Ralph's or most other grocery stores. -They are constantly out of gluten free products. I have made 4-5 trips across town to pick up a gluten free product that it says they carry to be so disappointed it's out of stock. Buyer beware if you shop here. They have no problem selling items that are expired and their produce if very sub quality. I know they are a subsidiary but whoever is buying for their stores should feel ashamed. I would not be at all surprised if there were kickbacks going on to the company store buyers from their suppliers to by sub standard produce in particular. Just one example, bought a bag of russet potatoes and a half gallon of milk among other items 2 days ago. The milk is already expired (my fault I guess for not checking) and the potatoes are already soft and sprouting. The potatoes have big cuts and you can tell they were the "culls", something they can't sell to anyone else. You can tell they buy off the bottom of the barrel for their customers. If you want quality produce do not phone in a shopping list for the store. I got old punky apples and 5 individual bananas. Two large broccoli heads bagged with no veggi bag. My mind goes directly to how did the broccoli get from the produce isle to the checkout? I envision sitting in the kiddie seat directly after a poopy diaper sat there. My intuition is they use the phone orders to get rid of stuff they would throw out at the end of the shift. I have actually enjoyed using Von's for a while. Their people are kind, good selection . But I chose to have groceries delivered. It is more convenient for me, with my busy lifestyle. But recently they delivered my groceries to the wrong address. I know this because the deliverer sent a photo of where they delivered my order- and it was not my address. And it was for $139.00- so no small order. Unfortunately, they have decided NOT to refund my purchase. They say they will- someday, but keep stalling. It is O.K. - I am done. In addition, when I asked them to just replace my groceries- I would even PAY FOR the same order- they completely screwed up that as well. So- I am done with Von's. No one can afford repeated screw ups ( yes, this happened before- the driver's keep dropping the order in the West part of the street, not East- IN SPITE OF SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS WHERE TO GO.). read more

I hate shopping here! The cashiers and baggers are rude. They act like like its a terrible inconvenience for them to do the job. This is a solid Vons location, and was clean and well lit. They had plenty of products in stock, and items were organized and neatly stacked. Prices were very reasonable, and they have the same sales as Safeway (for the NorCal people). They also have a large parking lot with plenty of spots. A man on Vons camera has been observed using my phone # for discounts / cash back that I have acquired. I have spent hours of work and several phone calls to their head office trying to resolve this, even going to the police. As he is using his own credit cards vs mine, the police cannot move forward. My calls to Vons has not resolved this situation, making me look like the bad guy. And it appears they don't have a qualified Supervisor at their head office that I have called today, both times GETTING HUNG UP ON! If you don't have the time to swing by the student run CalPoly Meat store at the Northern end of the CalPoly campus then this is a great place to pick up some of the best beef in the area. Monterey Bay & King City is the southern border of the Safeway branded stores. Atascadero/San Luis Obispo is the northern border of the Vons branded stores. We have been ordering from this Von's store to pick up groceries lately due to covid-19. I really appreciate that they offer order online and contactless pick up same day service without paying a fortune like some other services will charge. We have had good experiences with this service so far. My one and only wish would be that other Von's and Albertsons stores closer to my home get this service soon as well. For now I am OK with driving to SLO to pick up my food. The only other issue I have ever had is that once in a while something will be out of stock, but you can choose ahead of time if you want replacement items or not. You simply order and pay for your groceries online, choose a pick up time and they do the shopping. You'll get a text when it's ready and you can go get it. When you get there, they have special spots for you to park in and you call in, they bring it all out and put it in your trunk for you. Easy as can be! And risk free! read more

(1 STAR) This update applies to VON'S DELIVERY & PHARMACY only, see below. (4 Star) VON'S GROCERY still applies. GROCERY DELIVERY (1 Star): Consistently make substitutions on multiple items marked NO SUBSTITUTION, completely unreasonable substitution frequently if I even were to want best choice option. Frequently missing items charged for or charged for correct item but less expensive is actually in shipping. Save your frustrations and use the National Brand grocery shopping app with all items marked no substitution or selected with your approve alternative plus ability to message with shopper while they are shipping. PHARMACY: (1 Star) What started off as a quick easy to alternative to take advantage of one stop shopping as evolved into a poorly managed/staffed operation. Lines are now as long or longer than other nationally pharmaceutical chains. I am pestered constantly by text messages, but am unable to reduce number if I want to be notified if a fill. Text can come in too early in morning, and also even when they do not have your Rx ready, either because of order to get, or restocking your prescription so it is no longer ready for pick up. I am 100% disabled, unable to drive and very dependent on assistance of others. I received two late morning text reminding me to pick up my Rx's. 2 Rx's my VON'S PHARMACY app said were ready, filled less than 24hrs prior were not, and 2 additional Rx's I had received text messages for 2 hrs earlier had been restocked, in fact the clerks said ALL my Rx's had been restocked, and nastily advised me they restock on the 10 day (I believe today was 10th day for 2, and 1st day for 2). Total waist of time, now I have to have VON'S again fill these 4 Rx's, and find someone to drive me back again in a another day. To really add insult to this I received another set of text a couple of hours after I got home again reminding to pickup the same two Rx's (the daily afternoon reminder) making me think the staff prematurely restocked my Rx's GENERIC PRICING, yes the big $$$$ savers, a word of caution. Some of the generic prescription fills I gave at VON's are literally double the price of across the parking lot on a few items, for this more expensive generics, go online and search for price of filling your Rx, you can often find site that will have price at all major local pharmacy chain stores, I'm sure it works both ways but $60 st other place vs $120+ in my case has made me look at store and price on some Rx's. I have had VON'S use smaller sized dermatological type creams and liquids than other place across the parking lot like in the 20 to 50 gram range be in 5 grams smaller (possibly more) containers at VON's than same Rx filled at my previous pharmacy. Staff here originally was friendly, cheery and helpful, and cannot day that anymore. This Pharmacy would benefit from a little more relaxed time before GROCERY STORE (In Person Shopping) solid 4 stars. Clean, well stocked, friendly and professional staff. Not sure who the Sushi Chef is in the Deli section but this week I bought one serving of the spicy tuna and another of the spicy California Roll. It was as good or better than anything I've had (anywhere in the state) at a restaurant. I'm not Gordon Ramsay but I know when the rice is perfectly cooked. Fresh ingredients too! There Are two managers that have no back bone to get some employees to do their jobs .Sanitation is a must WE serve San Luis Obispo residents. And there can be some that might have allergies to chicken, turkey ,meats etc..Make sure you hold us accountable.Before any of us have our meats sliced ,for your safety ,make sure the slicer is wiped down with a sanitizer. While many people believe Covid is fake or not worth worry, others worry a lot. Transplant patients, elderly, chemo patients, people on certain immunosuppressant drugs, and other high risk victims depend on safety. Vons mops up spills immediately for safety but marginalizes, ignores, and takes for granted those with internal risks. By not maintaining a policy to wear masks they are telling a segment of their customer base they do not care about them. I feel unsafe and disrespected there and am reducing my exposure by shopping elsewhere. I plan to move my prescriptions and shop at stores that care about us. This is a poorly managed store and that is evident at the checkout line. Prices, food, stocking, etc. are fine. Customer Service is why I am writing this review as that is what makes or breaks a business. The regional manager and store managers need to pay attention to the customer experience and also their team members experience as it is painfully evident that there is something lacking in the company culture at Von's. 1) You have a line problem. The 15 items or less lines take longer than your regular registers. There is no sense of urgency from your checkers. 2) Your team members know how to do their job but they do not seem happy to be there. I try to engage with them every time I stop by to get a six pack on Fridays and I can tell they are miserable. This makes me think management isn't meeting their needs or creating a culture for them. 3) You don't seem to have anyone cleaning up the hand baskets as each line has stacks of them every time I visit the store. Management doesn't seem to care about presentation at their store. There are some simple fixes that could turn this around. I know many people in San Luis Obispo that visit this store and all of them are outraged at how long it takes from grabbing a single item to getting through checkout. In addition to fixing the above issues they should really look into self-checkout. Managers: It is called Customer Success. If you want to encourage repeat business from locals you really need to look into it and change the culture at this store. Right now you are the only game in town and seem to be hiding behind that fact but the minute another chain moves into town and you haven't fixed the above issues; you will have only yourselves to blame. read more

I love their produce section. But I hate how they usually only have just the express check out lanes open (15 items or less)...and when I roll there with my cart with way more than 15 items I get dirty looks from people. How awkward. Please have a normal check out lane open so I don't feel as if I may get jumped in the parking lot when I walk out. Thx. Ps. Overall the store is clean and most of the employees are friendly & helpful. I definitely suggest using their app (or weekly ad) to save money as they are extremely proud of their merchandise.
