Highly recommend going elsewhere. Dr. Chang was great! Unfortunately, the front office staff were consistently incompetent over the course of a couple of weeks. I was inaccurately told services weren't covered by insurance. Also, they stated not knowing the compound pharmacy information my prescription order went to or how to retrieve the medication, and then acted as if it was an inconvenience for them to find out from the doctor. They didn't know which doctor completes specific tasks such as contact lens training, so we were incorrectly scheduled with a doctor who doesn't do the training and had to reschedule much later. I asked for a school note which wasn't provided, so I had to ask again about an hour later. They also handed my young son his new eye glasses in the case and never offered to make sure they even fit him. Who does that?! Nevermind that we were never greeted while at least two staff members weren't even helping other customers, there were so many more specific examples demonstrating their level of incompetence and poor customer service. Again, save your time and patience by going elsewhere. read more

Does anyone even work here? I have let three messages because whenever I call, which has always been during work and non-lunch hours, NO ONE ever answers the phone. So, I leave a voice message. After I hang up, I rcv a text from the office saying I need to text them with why I called. Well, I already left a voice message, but ok.... So I send a text message saying the same thing as the voice mail I just left and still NO ONE returns my call- three different times. I have to tell you the Dr's here are great ! In fact they're so good and busy they won't be taking any appointments through the rest of 2023 due to being booked out . If you ask them if you could set up future appointments into 2025 there already booked into next year . Front desk staff really doesn't have many answers about when they well be opening up appointments again . As a patient of theres for the last 5 years , it's seems that it doesn't matter if you have an established, Dr. patient relationship. Was great to see Doctor Blue as well as say hello to the staff. I hadn't seen Dr. Blue for years, as Medicare had me with Dr Jason Chang, whom was equally efficient and effective with my eye exam. I lucked out that Dr. Blue, OD, was available this year. His office was running very smoothly and effectively throughout my prescription update and I had lenses put into a second pair of sunglasses as well as getting a new frameless, very light prescription, thanks to his excellent staff. A prior Google review showed that they had a mean front office manager who I was assured was no longer there. The staff seemed relaxed, patient and happy to help. I especially liked Rachel. But on picking up glasses on my return had different staff, that were efficient and kind. read more

Dr. Chang is great and I like him. This review is based on front desk staff and prescription sunglasses not delivered on time nor in wearable condition. Prescription glass was okay, but the prescription sunglasses had distorted view, felt woozy/dizzy upon wearing it. Ordered on 12/8 and today is 02/27 and I still haven't received the prescription sunglasses yet nor a complete full refund. Front office staff made mistakes on the glasses I ordered and billed incorrectly and has caused lot of unnecessary hassle and confusion. As I write this post, issue is yet to be resolved. Will go for check-up with Dr. Chang but will not be ordering any eyeglasses in the future. read more

A company that's out for your nickel and dime--if you're looking for an Optometrist, I recommend skipping this place and going elsewhere. First of all, they seem to be the only Optometrist in the area that requires a $50 retinal scan. Normally this would be a non issue, however, they lack transparency on its purpose. Previous places have always shown me what my scan looked like but not EnVision. During billing at the end, I asked the clerk why it was needed and was told it was due to Covid. I asked if it everything checked out and they responded with, "I don't know, I can ask the Doctor and give you a call if there was any issue." To me, this just feels like a cash grab attempt. Second, they charged me for a contact lens fitting, which also wouldn't have been a problem, but they didn't do any fitting in the store. I've used contacts before and chose to put them in and try on at home. The last issue is the reason I'm leaving a review, the prescription. It was never given to me and I had to email them to have it sent. The kicker, I can't help but think it's incorrect, especially since the contacts weren't. I had ordered a pair of glasses outside of EnVision but with the prescription they provided. They clearly are incorrect but I figured that I'd just have the doctor check them for the correct prescription when I went back in for my contact lens follow up. When I asked if they could check them I was told no, that they weren't bought from them so I'd have to take a gamble. Here's what the doctor told me to bet on--if they were incorrect, he wouldn't charge but if they were, he'd charge me. I'm sorry, what? If my psychologist prescribed me a medication that didn't work, they don't tell me to take it up with the manufacturer. I get it, they sell glasses, but that should come second to making sure the prescription is correct. That also ignores that fact that I don't like the brands or styles they sell. If they only provide customer care to those who purchase glasses, they should make it known. In the end, I have spent over $200 to end up with a prescription that I do not trust. Instead, I'll have to schedule a second opinion with another Optometrist and order a new pair of glasses. read more

On the plus side, Dr. Chang is an awesome guy and he's very conscientious and thorough. Unfortunately, the front office staff are not the best and that ruins the experience. First problem: My eye exam was good however, Dr Chang saw something that needed referral to a specialist. He told me that the referral would be sent over and that I'd hear from the specialist's office. After two weeks, I checked with the specialist and was told no referral was sent. They contacted envision and were told the referral was sent. Another week goes by and I call envision to get a snarky "WE ALREADY SENT IT"... maybe so but the specialist does not have it. Eventually referral was sent and apparently my problem needed to be urgently addressed. All worked out but there was an unnecessary 3 week delay. Next, I ordered a new pair of lenses for frames I already had. These frames have had two sets of progressive lenses that I have given me perfect vision. When the glasses come back, I have a difficult time seeing(reading) with them on. Rather than helping me, I get another snarky comment about how the prescription was made correctly and the problem must be with the pantoscopic angle of the frames (seriously??). A visit to two other optometrists confirmed that the pupillary distance in these lenses was too wide.. hence the lenses were made slightly incorrectly which affected my reading vision. My advice would be to visit some of the other awesome optometry locations in town, there are a few. The consistently poor customer service at Envision outweighs any benefit of the awesomeness of the docs. read more

This office is a circus. The office manager is rude to her front desk staff and customers. Dr. Chang inputs the prescription into his laptop which he does in the dark exam room at the end of the eye exam. I've had three family members receive eye exams there including myself and so far he's negative 4/4. They prescriptions were wrong and we'd have to go back. This last time my moms script was completely wrong, but she will not be returning for correction. We ended up going to Costco SLO. This review is not about the other doctors, We've only seen Dr. Chang (although he is very nice and professional). The rest of the staff (MINUS the RUDE and MEAN office manager) are completely professional. You'll take your chances with this optometrists office. read more

Found Envision Optometry on Yelp and scheduled an appointment for me annual vision exam. It was easy to make an appointment as a new patient. Front office staff was polite and professional and found the right appointment that worked for my schedule. Had my eye exam with Dr. Chang. He took his time in examining my eyes and vision and felt he really listened to what my vision needs were. They have a huge selection of eyewear. With so many choices it was a little overwhelming to decide on the right frames. However, their staff were really helpful in finding the right frames for my face. I really liked the frames I picked out. My frames were ready to be picked up in about a week and a half, but I'm sure they would have been done within a week if it wasn't for the holidays. My fitting with one of their technicians was quick and flawless! I highly recommended Envision Optometry for your vision needs. read more

This review is just for their glasses department. We had our vision exams elsewhere. We have VSP Insurance and this was one of the places covered by them and my wife needed new glasses and I wanted to find a place covered by VSP and that had a big selection of frames. Boy...was this the right place to come. Hundreds of frames from easily over a dozen designers. I loved the selection and the variety of lens types and styles. Something for everyone, no question. The store is nice and open and very clean and bright. When we walked in we were greeted by reception behind the counter and told to ask if we needed help. Aside from that, we were left 100% alone until we had questions, which was exactly the service I like/want. When we selected a pair, we sat down, provided our insurance info and ordered what we wanted. The guy who helped us was knowledgeable and polite. We sat down, ordered, and were done within a half hour. Easy. So stoked to walk-in and find a pair of glasses for my wife that she loves so easily! read more

I did not have an eye appointment here but came to check out their eyeglasses selection. Upon walking in I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. I told them I was going to browse around and ask for help if I needed it! And wow oh wow. I haven't seen such a variety of hip glassware anywhere else in town! I must have tried on about 50 pairs of glasses. I didn't try on so many because I couldn't find one I like, I tried on so many because there was just so many fun different options that I couldn't help but check myself out in all of them! Once I found the pair I wanted, I sat down with someone and they got me all squared away right away. About 2 weeks later I received a phone call that my glasses were in and that I needed to schedule an appointment. Super easy to schedule and the appointment lasted all of 2 minutes. They just wanted to make sure that I was satisfied and that the glasses fit right on my head. I will definitely be coming back here for my next pair and letting everyone else know about their selection too! read more

Dr. Blue is the best eye doc I've ever had and I've had MANY. Now my vision issues aren't terrible but I have a mild astigmatism, so no major problems except for having two different RXs for contacts which means 2 boxes no matter how I order. Dr. Blue prescribed new contacts in just one strength and said it should be OK. Well the RX was perfect and that alone saved me SO much money and now I don't have to worry about what eye I put my contacts in. Dr. Blue is so awesome he even supplied me with a ton of free samples of a *very* pricey contact lenses when I ran out and gave me my RX on paper so I could go order glasses online (I love Zenni!). The staff is always so super nice and helpful too, I've got no complaints! read more

I moved to SLO last summer and had been looking for a good eye doctor. I tried a big name eye care center my first year, but did not like it at all. Then I tried envision optometry my second year and Dr. Jeffery Blue has been THE BEST optometrist I have ever seen. He is so knowledgeable, kind and patient. He would take the time to talk to the patient and explain to you the little details, and he answered all my questions with great patience and kindness. Finally I'm able to find a eye doctor who actually cares about patients!! I would highly recommend envision optometry and Dr. Jeffery Blue! When I lived in SLO, a coworker of mine suggested Envision optometry when I needed to get new contact lenses and glasses. Dr. Chang is a great optometrist. He's very friendly, attentive, and can actually find a solution to your problems. With my previous optometrist, I had the struggle of finding a nice lens for glasses for night time wear since I wear contact lenses. Dr. Chang was able to remedy that situation and I have contact lenses that fit really well and glasses that are pretty focused to where I need it to be. I since moved to the Bay Area, but I'll schedule my appointments whenever I drive to Southern California because I found a great optometrist in Dr. Chang. The staff at the front desk are nice and friendly, and the assistants who do the preliminary vision tests are very professional and nice. Pricing on the frames are average-high, but they are pretty good quality. read more

Annoyed. I was directed to Envision by the manufacturer of my cycling sunglasses I; after two years, one of the (prescription) lenses had cracked, so they sent me to Envision to have replacement lenses made up. I ended up asking then to replace the lenses in my sunglasses and some lenses in some reading glasses. So far, so good. Envision then broke the sunglasses frames the first time; Envision didn't offer to replace the frames, but rather said they were obviously old and/or defective, but out of warranty. I shelled out for new frames, since Envision said they had the replacement lenses ready (rather than starting over from scratch). So, I bring in new frames- but, the lenses needed more work. And they'd forgotten to send out my reading glasses. Then they call and say by glasses ready; I go in and.... they'd broken the second set of frames (and failed to say so in the message). They say "well, just go get another pair of frames..." At this point I was out for lenses and frames, and they ask me to go get another pair? I said no, I wanted them to come up with another proposal. The woman working in front says she'll check with the optometrist. So, I get a grumpy sounding voicemail that "we'll order new frames, we just think these frames aren't that good" or some such. This, despite that the lenses I'd had initially had been prescription from a place in LA, and the LA place hadn't had any issues at all. So then I get another voicemail that the glasses are ready. I go in and.... the lenses don't fit. There's a gap, almost a mm wide, between the lenses and the frames. If I bend the frames, the lenses pop out. I get told by the woman working in front that if I have issues, I need to call back and deal with the optometrist, she doesn't want to work the issue any more. So, I call the sunglasses people, who are going to take the lenses and frames and see what they can do. I need to mail them in; after working on this for over a month with Envision. So, we're not going back. read more

I came to see Dr. Graham before he left, the Exam was great and the doctor made no changes to my prescription. The issue I have is that the glasses I purchased for $300 were complete garbage; I could not wear them because they gave me a headache. I complained several times, saw the doctor again, and still the glasses were not right. I just gave up on Envision because they could not make the glasses right. I just went to Costco and bought glasses there. Additionally, the Office seems to be profit motivated. I paid in full when I ordered the glasses, but at pick-up time I was asked to pay an additional $20 due to an error. read more

I went to Envision Optometry for a contact lens exam. I originally set the appointment for the following day, but was in the area the prior day and asked if they could see me then. Dr. Blue was having his lunch and cut it short to give me an exam. I would have to say that in all the years I have had eye exams, this one was the most thorough. The ladies that work with him are very helpful and knowledgeable when if comes to choosing the right frames and lenses. They can also assist when it comes to the billing for your insurance and how to get the most from your particular plan. They have a nice selection of designer rx frames and sunglasses, and different brands of contact lenses. Dr. Blue gave me a sample of a different brand of contacts to try that were better and less expensive than the ones that I am currently using. I had an excellent experience at Envision Optometry and would highly recommend to anyone that needs an exam, contact lenses or glasses. read more

Very nice doctors. However, I felt a little ripped off. They have my insurance information and know that it covers an exam with a $25 copay. When I'm finished they ask for $50. When I ask why, they said the extra $25 was for some additional peripheral vision test they did that insurance doesn't cover. Don't you think the professional way to handle this would be to tell me up front that this is extra test is not covered so I can decide if I need it? Feels shady, but to give them the benefit of the doubt, I should have said that I wasn't paying for it since they didn't tell me about it in advance, and give them the chance to take it off my bill. I didn't do that though since I just don't like confrontations. I'll just complain here like an internet troll. I will go back, but I'm not letting them do anything my insurance doesn't cover again. I just need to cheapest way to get my prescription written on a piece of paper. read more

Clean, great Covid standards that made me feel safe, & staff are wonderful. Toni up front is phenomenal. I never would have found my first pair of glasses with a frame I felt looked semi-decent with my face structure & shnoz nor would I have gotten a pair to rest correctly on my nose bridge (not lop sided), had it not been for her keen eye, sense of style, skills in fitting glasses, & ability to point out where each style of frame draws attention. Once faithful customers, both my husband & I have had bad experiences with Envision SLO & will probably not be returning. After losing my glasses, I ordered the exact same pair. The frames had to be ordered so getting the lenses in would take a few days also. I was happy to take the frames on the first leg of our trip & have them put in elsewhere but no, Envision GUARANTEED their arrival. Of course they did not arrive even close to what was promised. It felt like trickery & I was stuck vacationing for a month without my glasses. For my husband: light bendy expensive frames, nose piece fell off in 3 days. Couldn't be replaced! Had to buy a new pair. We like Dr Chang but frames & service are over costly & slow. read more

So these days it's very hard to go into a doctors office. But we went into Envision yesterday and felt pretty comfortable. The office is spacious so you don't have to get close to personnel or other patients.There were some screens between providers and myself and they all wore masks and required all entering the building to wear masks and have your temperature taken before entering the facility. I like that they are taking the precautions necessary to ensure a good patient experience and putting safety first. Staff was all very professional and kind. read more

Dr. Chang was great. Took his time with me and explained everything well. The receptionists were a little flaky. I stood up a the counter practically in front of one of them and she acknowledged the UPS guy, took something from him and went to the back all without speaking to me. Finally the other girl took care of me but she had no clue how to order contacts or that there were rebates associated with them...someone else had to help her. Then, the girl who did eye tests on me kept changing where I was suppose to sit. She seemed confused on the process. Are these people trained? Luckily they did order my contacts and they came in within 2 business days. Hopefully next time, they'll know how to handle customers properly. read more

They were able to fit me in for a same day appointment which is great due to my busy work schedule. I had my exam done by Dr. Blue. Amazing staff! great location. Great collection of frames. I was in and out in under an hour exam and new frames picked out. I would recommend this place to EVERYONE. Go. You will not be disappointed! Ps Dr. Blue gets my vote for favorite optometrist of all time, which is saying something considering I've been wearing glasses since the age of 7.
