PLEASE READ: the ONLY reason why I am giving this Ralph's 5 whopping stars is because of one AH-MAY-ZING worker in particular, SHERI.
I went to Ralphs to quickly buy a cake for 3 of my wonderful coworkers whose last day is tomorrow... all of them. I decided to buy a cake and wanted to help getting something written on it. I waited at the bakery for about 10-15 minutes. I saw this man staring at me and mistook him as a Ralphs employee (he was unloading cheese out of boxes). He kindly looked in the back of the bakery for me and replied that no one was there and that I should definitely complain... He clearly thought about my frustration because I had been standing there for so long.
I walked over to the registers and asked two gentlemen for some help and they kindly apologized and called for customer service. I waited at the bakery for about 5 more minutes before I trekked over to the baking needs aisle to look for my own damn icing to do it myself at home.
When I reached the self check out I saw that a woman named Diedre was standing at the customer care booth talking to another employee. I figured this person can help me. When she finished blabbing, I stood there patiently next to her. She wasn't doing anything, but standing there... I had no idea why. She finally turned towards me and asked in the most RUDEST tone, "Did you need something?" (Seriously bitch?) At this point I was so upset because I had been wanting help for almost 30 goddamn minutes! I didn't just want writing on my damn cake, I wanted to ask the baker questions about the cakes and their thoughts... I thought about getting a cake for each person and wanted to get a second opinion on that... I also wanted to make sure the cakes didn't have nuts or weren't made in a facility with nuts only because one of my coworkers has a slight allergy. I looked on the the labels and luckily got my answer... hopefully...
Anyway, I responded with something like, "Yes! I need assistance at the bakery!" She of course rudely answered back that she's not even clocked in and that's exactly what she's doing... waiting in front of this tiny black machine attached to the counter... around hips height to clock in and if I needed help that I could be asking any of the men at the registers... WHO WERE ALL FUCKING RINGING PEOPLE UP BY THE WAY! For fuck's sake, are you that petty over time? You are wasting time just standing there being useless. She snapped at me without even thinking about how her attitude was a reflection on her store.. ironically at the customer service booth. She CLEARLY doesn't value her job and NEEDS TO GET FIRED! I usually don't suggest anyone to be fired because I understand how frustrating it could be in their shoes, but there was absolutely NO EXCUSE for this. There could have been another way to put it, "I'm so sorry, I can help you as soon as I clock in, but if you want to wait after so and so finishes ringing, they can help you". Seriously, you could have TOTALLY worded that SO much better. I think Diedre belongs in an elementary school serving cafeteria food. She's terrible.
So I threw my hands up in the air and said, "fine"... I seriously have never shown an ounce of anger in front of a frustrated employee before... and that's all I really showed... an ounce of how FURIOUS I was because I have complete empathy over people. I know how crazy customers can get, but what I was asking for wasn't ridiculous. I was seriously willing to wait for this bitch to finally clock in and then cuss my head off at her until she found me some fucking help... she's so lucky that not even a minute after this, Sheri.. the wonderful lady I always see at self check out approached me and asked me I needed some assistance.
I told her what I wanted and her response is that she could absolutely do that for me. I was SO thankful. She noticed the icing in my cart and felt awful about my experience. While writing on my cake she even gave me tips on how to use icing if I ever wanted to do it on my own. SO helpful. She is GOLDEN to you Ralphs.
I seriously considered going to Fresh and Easy off of El Toro instead of ever coming back here even though Ralphs is only 5 minutes away from my home... I would have gladly went out of my way to get groceries elsewhere, but it is honest to all that is great that Sheri had saved my experience.
She has always been so amazing to me at the self check out and I will uphold my high opinion of her... always.
I can't say the same thing about Diedre... I swear if I ever see her at this establishment again, I can't promise I won't "accidentally" run into her with my shopping cart or give her the birdie or call her a "see you next Tuesday" because that is exactly what she is.
Again, the 5 stars is purely and truly for Sheri. Thank you. read more
