Got to agree with a lot of the other reviews here. The customer service sucks. Apathetic attitudes from most of the checkers and the manager. They won't greet you or thank you for shopping there and seem to have no problem complaining to each other about work or personal issues in front of customers. I put up with it for awhile but I'm done. We really need another grocery store in Foothill Ranch. Until then I'll just drive down Portola to grocery stores with better service. read more

Not a bad store for the size. Parking is very tight. Clean store. The only complaint I have (which is minimal) is there "Pickle" section. There are three rows of Kosher pickles and only one brand offering the true "Tart Dill Pickle" Heinz was once there and now it's gone as well. I shop at the Ralphs in Foothill Ranch it's well stocked and is one of the bigger stores. They keep it clean and are very helpful if you need a certain item. Some of the things on my list; Raisin Bran Cereal, Soy Milk, Raisin Bran Mini Muffins, Bananas, apples, green onions, Roma Tomato's. Also Cat Food for our two felines, bags of dry food, and can food. At the frozen section; I'll buy Lean Cuisine Frozen Dinners ( please don't tell, that we eat at home). Then I go and buy 12 Grain Bread, Swiss Cheese, and Gluten Free Corn Tortillas. I don't live in the area, but I do like to hike in Whiting Ranch, and it always seems like my daughter needs a little bit for the loop hike, so Ralph's is the perfect place to stop. I don't know what it takes to get a 3* rating for a supermarket, but I don't think this one deserves it. It is clean, bright and the produce section is great (that's where she gets her snacks). So by all means, pop in here. And if you park in the lot when you use the trail (I don't any more, usually), at least stop in to get some water or snacks and give the place a bit of business. read more

I would rate a zero star if I could. People working at the bakery department of this store in the morning has the worst attitude towards customers. To two different employees at the bakery section I've asked about fresh hot baguettes and both of their response was near being angry and complaining as if I had done them wrong. Management needs to evaluate their customer service level of the bakery department. "Their current mission statement is that the customer should receive the very best, whether this is the best customer service, best quality or best price." Caveat Emptor !!! Shelf promoted prices at this store are routinely NOT honored at the cash register. For instance, I purchased a two pack of 8V batteries today that had a promoted shelf price (when you use your Ralph's club card) of $8.99. At the register I scanned my Ralphs club card and when I got home, I discovered I was incorrectly charged $11.99 for the batteries. This bait and switch routine has happened to me now too frequently. As a result, I will no longer be patronizing this store. Finally, as I will no longer be shopping at this store, I want to call out Michelle, an afternoon store cashier, for the distinction of The Most Disrespectiful and Unfriendly Cashier. How she has been able to keep her job after the encounters I have witnessed, I cannot fathom. read more

What a dump! Avoid at all costs, been going here for months hoping for better and it just gets worse. Staff suck and the place is dirty

I've visited this location on two occasions, both times the store has been clean, which has been quite nice. Where they fall flat is in their customer service desk, the first time I encountered an issue with some coupons. When I went to check out the cashier had forgotten to scan them (they're the ones that come on the package). When I went to the customer service desk to get them taken off the person behind the desk made it seem like I was inconveniencing them by being there, making comments like "I don't understand why you didn't stop the cashier during the transaction to have them scanned, or why you didn't take them off yourself and hand them to them." The most recent (today), I purchased a lottery ticket that won, so I went to turn it in, the person behind the desk and another employee were talking about their schedules, etc. When the clerk got to me, he told me he couldn't cash the ticket. So what happens if a register runs out of cash? Do they just tell customers they're out of luck or shut down for the day? I find it very hard to believe, to me it just looked like the employee didn't want to do the work... I will still shop ralphs, but the ones in this area seem to have quite a better than you attitude to their customer service. read more

Paul Lopez, the store manager is really great. He has been there a long time and is always upbeat and helpful. He is super supportive of Portola Hills Elementary School and the community. The store is always clean and well stocked. They have a great organic produce section and the organic kale is always fresh and low priced. The sushi is super fresh and delicious. We love the ready made sandwiches. Always fresh and you don't have to stand in line to get a regular turkey sandwich! read more

The major issue this store has is the lack of open registers when it's busy. It's the weekend, 2 registers open with 6-8 carts waiting in each line and they refuse to open additional registers!!! I figure they're more concerned with profits over customers......such a shame as this is our closest grocery store and we tend to drive further for better service. read more

I love this Ralphs. I moved to Foothill from Santa Ana about 2 years ago and I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry when I first set foot in here. It's so NICE! The location is insanely convenient, the people are SO kind. I go here every other day for groceries and I can't remember ever having a negative experience. I am happy to know half of the checkers, and am surprised at the negative comments given my frequency of visiting this location coupled with my personal constant satisfaction. Absolutely ridiculous! A guy called Paul just decided that it was more important to put things in the customer bag than to help me get the cash through Western union. Literally after I waited for 10 min for his computer to come up .... he told me that I will have to wait because he needs to help the cashier to put staffs in the customers bags. I'm so angry this supermarket refused to let me buy groceries at the lower club prices just because I didn't have a card at the check out stand. The customer ahead of didn't have a Ralphs club card either was the cashier allowed her to use her card. How rude! And it was the manager too! My husband and I unloaded our groceries (not everything we needed but the store was poorly stocked). The manager was at the register chatting with the customer. He was just standing and talking; he didn't even scan any of the remaining groceries. The customer asked for cash back and although the register didn't have enough cash the manager left two of us standing and waiting in line while he slowly chatted with the customer as he went to get her extra cash. He did not even make an effort to hurry or to say a single word to the people he left waiting in his line! This is how the manager treats his customers! I will NEVER shop at this store again! It's that time again. Time to feed the belly but alas the refrigerator is empty and I've been living off fast food for a better part of the week. Time to get some groceries but this heat has made me lazy. I live within 10 minutes of four Ralph's stores but for some reason I always come to this one even though I don't always find what I need here. Sure, I can get the basics to survive but because it was hot I shot up the street to what I think is the closest one to my house. The staff is usually friendly enough and now, they've gotten to know who I am which I usually don't like. I don't like people judging me on what I choose to buy and I buy the most random things. This time I was super thirsty and really hungry. They probably thought I was feeding a small family of four that was stashed away somewhere in my walk-in closet amongst all the shoes, clothes, and handbags but no, all that food was for me. Yes, the 2 gallons of water, a gallon of milk, 2 different types of juice, a double pack of English muffins, a loaf of bread, a wide variety of veggies and fruit, a "family size" box of cereal (I swear it's all for me!), 2 boxes of Cheez-Its, a big thing of ice cream (yes, that's for me too. I love ice cream!), a 12 pack of Vanilla Zero Coke and that's about it. The lady gave me a suspicious look and asked "aren't you the Gatorade girl that runs those marathons for charity?" See? I told you so. Recognized once again but this time without my Gatorade. I came to this store several times last year and bought mass quantities of Gatorade and also asked for a donation. I guess that makes me well known. My bill almost came out to $100 but God bless those Ralph's Rewards my bill was only $70. I expected that considering all the stuff I walked out with. Trust me, it'll be gone soon and I'll be back to the grocery store but I might try a different location this time. This review would be a lot higher if the meat department new what they were talking about. Very excited to see that this location at some point in time will be selling Organic meats!! They have organic rib eyes labeled with cost!!! Unfortunately stocker was stocking their organic section with "natural" beef and tried to explain to me that vegetarian diet is organic. I've been a shopper here for 20 + years, and have to say the staff has always been kind and helpful-that is until this past Sunday, September 18th. I approached the Deli counter when it appeared another customer was waiting for the clerk. The clerk the came from the back and asked who was next I said, I thought the other folks were waiting before me. The customer said they did not need assistance . The clerk yells "ma"am incredibly loud (to the other customer), the customer repeats that she does not need help. The clerk rolls her eyes, looks at my daughter and I and says " what do you need" in a very gruff way. So my daughter being in retail says "wow" as she's shocked at this clerks attitude. So I ask to see what a pound of shaved meat looks like because I may need more. She replies: "it looks like a pound". She shaves it, begins wrapping it and I ask if I can see if I need more. And I get waaay more eye rolling and attitude. We are just standing there stunned at this clerks behavior. She adds what I need to the order and literally throws the package onto the top of the deli counter. She doesn't belong there, and is an embarrassment to the Ralph's I know and love. read more

Whenever you buy lunch meat here make sure you double check the expiration date. They frequently keep expired lunch meat on the shelf. Ive seen this several times so not a one time mistake. Worst was once I saw a package that had expired 10 days ago right in the front. read more

I love this Ralph's. The team is very friendly, store is clean and well organized. The bakery has improved, but still has a little ways to go. I use the Scan n Go option. Once you get used to it, it works really well. Much faster than putting things in only to have to take them back out again. They have a great deli and cooked food section to the right. read more

This review is for their deli section only. Since I work nearby, I'm always here for their fried chicken and deli sandwiches. About $5 for 8 pieces of chicken, either fried or rotisserie style. It's pretty good, not too salty chicken. Split this with 2 people and it's a bargain. Their sandwiches are about $4, good meat to bread ratio, and most importantly it's filling. I've lived in this neighborhood for 25 years. I love the fact the manager is very nice. They've upgraded the stores many times, and it's always clean. Never since the store opened I've had a bad experience either with employees or trying to find things or even expired products. I believe this store is well kept and well managed. read more

I love this Ralph's. This is my childhood grocery store, as I've lived in Foothill Ranch almost 30 years. So I've gotten to see a lot of employees come and go, but also a ton of them who have been there forever and are still as great as always. Paul Lopez is super wonderful always makes sure to greet everyone as they walk by, he's always sure to let people know if there is a shorter line available, or he will open a register if it seems to be busy. Dean L is also a spectacular employee as well. He's so funny. He makes me laugh every time I go in there. I really love this Ralph's and I hope it never changes. read more

Not great. One of few options in this immediate area for groceries. If you like mainstream groceries (not big on organics/natural or gourmet/specialty foods), then this will meet your needs. Solid place for ice, alcohol, and other last minute party needs. Stocks all your usual brand name items. The produce section has a small organic section...small but not as steeply priced as some mainstream/traditional grocers (Ralphs, Albertsons, etc) try to get away with. (For some reason mainstream grocers think they can charge Whole Foods/Farmers market organic produce prices even though the quality, selection and specificity of offerings does not warrant such steep prices...seriously lame.) The quality of their organics is average. Some of it looks like it has been out for awhile but not totally terrible. If you need something to complete a recipe you were making for dinner, their stuff will work. On a similar note, they stock everything you could possibly need and have a decent selection of harder to find baking ingredients and spices. The service is not good. As someone noted, the checkers can be random with who/when they let someone get the Club Card prices without having the Club Card on them. Kind of annoying. Another thing I find annoying with this Ralphs is that their self checkout scanners freak out if you are using own bags! If you don't put your item into the plastic bags, the computer will flip the f*** out. And will not let you proceed often until an attendant comes to bypass the situation. So annoying!!! You have like one second to hit the "..using my own bag" button while simultaneously bagging your item before the machine flips out. I know that is a tech issue I speak of but then you must wait several minutes for someone to get to you. Lame. Makes self checkout useless. Anyways...this is an average place to go. Pros: Redbox machine (convenient). Rarely super crowded. Lots of other useful services in same shopping center. Varied selection of items. Cons: People who use the Redbox machine (often very rude & impatient). Very limited selection of organic foods beyond produce and dairy. Service. Self checkout machines performance. read more
