Buying vitamins at CVS is a new experience for me, primarily because CVS is a member of the OTC network, and I was given a $50 OTC gift card. Prices at CVS are competitive since it offers bogo deals on many store brand vitamins. I signed up for a free ExtraCare account to clip digital coupons and as a wallet for ExtraBucks rewards. They are not the easiest to work with but I hope the saving would be worth it. The self checkout was frustrating for someone new to CVS. It summoned help after I fumbled around a few minutes. She transferred my stuff to a cashier register to complete the purchase and explained to me how things work. Hopefully the process will be easier if/when I shop here again. read more

I came in at 8:15 in the morning. I wasn't in the right mind set as my 5 year old is very sick and I needed her medicine. So I walked in without checking the hours of the pharmacy at the door and couldn't find the little sign that they have up. I nicely asked the person in the front even saying "sorry to bother you but if you don't mind could you tell me when the pharmacy open?" She with a very condescending voice and attitude tells me "well if you had bothered to looked at the door or on the pharmacy you would easily see that it opens at 9!" Excuse me? I missed it at the door cause I ran thinking duh CVS is a pharmacy and would be open at 8am. When a customer is dealing with a sick kid at home they don't need someone to be so rude for a simple question. Rude pharmacy phone staff, if they ever pick up. I accidentally called the doctor line and was grilled about whether I was a doctor or from a doctor's office. I wasn't and apologized. Then, I was scolded like I was a four-year-old who got caught putting my hand in a cookie jar. The rude woman put me on hold for four minutes, after which I hung up. Leaving a voice message and waiting for a call back that may or may not come is hardly customer friendly. The rest of the store is fantastic but not so enough to keep me coming back. We are transferring all of our prescriptions from this pharmacy after giving them many chances. I have been handed the wrong prescription (someone else's) twice. They are rude in person and on the phone. I had an issue with a prescription (they were blaming the doctor but it was not his fault) and they simply refused to do anything to get the problem resolved. No one at cashier. Used self checkout. I purchased items that included $10 off my next purchase. Self checkout machine needed my phone number. The machine said a text will be sent to me to finish my membership application. I waited but the text never came. I brought it up to an older female employee. She apologized but said I should have read the directions on the self checkout. There was no directions other than it saying a text will be sent to me. I decided to return my items. She began sighing very loudly and clearly started showing passive aggressiveness. After the return and I started walking away, she started muttering loud enough for me to hear that I should have followed the directions. Had to wait around at the pharmacy since it opens at 9am. When I went to inquire about whether the location carried a specific medication and whether they received the order from the doctor, the pharmacist was exceedingly rude. I have worked as a health care provider for over 20 years, and if we were at the same company, I would be incredibly embarrassed by her lack of professionalism and discourtesy. Her name is Reham. Pharmacist, Shiela, deliberately makes it difficult for patients to fill prescriptions at this pharmacy. On several occasions, she has denied filling RX citing reasons that were not factual (i.e. "Doctor's office location not in allowable range", "the written RX is not specific enough and must be written the way she prefers", "she needs to speak with the prescribing doctor to discuss RX dosage or drug type is correct", etc...). She seems to believe she knows more about patients and their appropriate medical treatments prescribing physicians. She questioned several things about my own prescription on multiple occasions which came across as judgmental, prejudiced and harmful. At one point, she recommended I try visiting urgent care if not having access to my medications created any medical or health problems. I have never experienced a pharmacy or pharmacist who would deliberately make it difficult for patients to receive their doctor-prescribed medications the way I have when interacting with Sheila at this specific location. She is the only person that has been hostile and difficult with my and my family's medical needs. read more

Been using this location for many prescriptions for a long while . I have been picking up a controlled substance on the 28 th day after pick up for years . Today I was told by the managing pharmacist that she is changing it to the 29 th day . I told her that there was no notice given for this change and it is dependent on her discretion . It is an abuse of her discretion , to arbitrarily change policy . It was quite inconvenient to have traveled there in person to discover this change after such a long time , again without notice . If you're looking to get a passport photo, find someplace else. I was in CVS this morning with my mom. My mom very politely asked where she could get her passport photo taken. Laura was working the front registers. She asked my mom to step to the side and she would be with her as soon as she finished ringing up customers. She finished ringing up customers and then busied herself behind the counter, not sparing my mom a glance. She took a phone call, spoke with a friend who was in the store and by that time another customer came to the register. We had been waiting for about 20 minutes. I asked her name and she replied, "Laura, why? What did I do wrong?" I told her it was what she didn't do that was the issue and we left the store. With so many negative reviews you would think that CVS management would address the various problems they have with their staff. read more

I've lived in Portola for almost a decade now but every now and then I find myself here. Okay so here is my experience. My mom, sister, and I are at the self check out. The cashier comes around and fixed the other self checkout and walks around but right before going back to her checkout stand sticks her head down right at the items we put in the bag area and walks away. Mind you, we have card in hand ready for payment. No gesture of recognition to us as customers, verbal greeting, smile, just a nonverbal of let me see what you're purchasing but for what purpose. It's the subtle, covert, silent body language, with the slightest hint of doubtfulness, to feel like you can make a family feel uncomfortable without the obvious racial remarks. This seems like a smaller CVS but they stock all the usual stuff. It's clean and organized and aisles are well labeled. Cashiers are always friendly, saying hello when I walk through the door. I've been to the pharmacy a few times. There seem to be a lot of negative reviews here for the pharmacy but I've had nothing but good experiences. They are the most competent bunch I've ever dealt with at any CVS location. They have always provided me with excellent, helpful, friendly service. I really wish I could give a zero star. The cashier was basically forcing us to sign up for their stupid benefits? When I kept saying no. They really need to stop forcing their employees to reach a quota. It's really tough and adds unneeded stress for them and the customers. I guess it's a one star close to zero for the entire company. This CVS isn't much different than other locations, but it's conveniently situated in a big shopping center and has a drive thru pharmacy. There are always plenty of parking spots available and it's usually not too crowded. The store has all the standard products you'd expect to find at a drugstore like this, and it is pretty clean and well stocked. They are rarely out of anything. If you are unlucky you might find yourself waiting in line at checkout for some time though, because for whatever reason checking out at any CVS seems to take forever. I'm not going to fault this location for it, though, because this has happened to me at CVS stores everywhere. The pharmacy is also typically super busy, and always appears chronically understaffed. If you are going to need your medicine in a hurry, I would seriously advise filling your prescription elsewhere. The drive-thru just adds a whole additional layer of prescriptions to fill that keep the employees hopping. That said, I've filled many a prescription here and they haven't gotten it wrong. It's just taken awhile to get. This location does have some of the best beer and wine prices in the area, if you aren't looking for anything too exotic. The standard import and domestic beers are generally three to four dollars cheaper than in surrounding grocery stores. And they usually have outstanding sales on cheap to mid-range wine. CVS also has pretty outstanding coupons and discounts if you use their club card on things. If you check online or the sale paper, you can actually get money back in the form of "Extrabucks," usually valued at $2-$5, that function as a mini-gift card coupon. If you buy strategically with coupons, you can actually get things completely free. Overall this is a reliable CVS location in the center of town. There's no reason to avoid this place if you need something. read more
