This review is mainly for the bakery dept. But also for the stores customer service. I came here to order my son's birthday cake. I was told by the clerk in the bakery dept. ( Dasia) that I can put any image on the cake, I would just need to bring in a picture and they would be able to scan the image and print it out on an edible sheet that would be placed on cake. Great! So I went to Staples and brought back the photo to Dasia. The picture was printed on a normal 8×10 paper and the image took up almost the whole page. When I went to pick up the cake I was completely disappointed. The image looked bad. It had an ugly glare over it. Not only was it crooked, but it had a weird pinkish color (that was not on the original image) around it. But the worst part was that the image was so much smaller, less than the size of a 4x6 photo, awkwardly placed on the cake. Their excuse was that Dasia was the "new girl" so she didn't know that they usually recommend the customer go to another bakery to get the image printed on an edible sheet. I still don't even know if their printer is able to print bigger images or wtf? They did not try to fix the problem at all or even reprint image, which would have taken minutes to do. They said the best they could do was knock off $10 of the original $40 price. After speaking with the supervisor, who seemed rather unapologetic, I got another mere $10 knocked off again. So I paid $23.99 for the saddest, ugliest cake ever for my 7 year old boy. The cake tasted okay but the customer service I received is the reason I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

haven't been more upset in my life than tonight. I went to the local Ralph's 5 minutes before closing I went to both ends of the enterance and realized that they were both closed five minutes before closing time. I was confused so i knocked at one of the entrances and one of the supervisors/managers came up to the door and said we are closed! I told him it says you guys close at 1 a.m. and he said it is imposible for you to get what you want in one minute, even though all I wanted was flowers for my mom for Mother's Day and the flowers were 10 feet from the entrance, he said we are closed and walked away! I knocked again and told him I am here before 1 AM why are the doors closed and he said to FUCK OFF! I was so surprised to hear such foul language at Ralph's grocery store when all I was trying to do is get some flowers for my mom for Mother's Day. I asked for his name he didn't give it to me, he did not have a name tag. He had a pink shirt and was bald and it was the night of May 9th morning of May10th, this is all the description I can give since he wouldn't give me his name but I'm sure you can see on the cameras. It's great that this location is open a little later than many (although 2 am would be even better). We can stop off for groceries on our way home; what a concept! The selection is moderately limited--which seems to be the norm among supermarkets in this part of the county, but Ralphs has a reputation for doing things better than the rest. If only it tried a little harder, this store could be a popular destination even when other nearby stores were open. read more

I went to their deli section and ordered 25 pieces of chicken for a surprise lunch for my staff. The lady was annoyed and said "let me call my manager". The Deli manager came out and told me you should know to give 24 hours notice before you place a big order like that. I was not aware and I pointed out that they do not have a sign. I also asked for catsup packets and the Deli Manager said you go buy your own catsup. Very rude, unprofessional. They have no business working in a customer service field. read more

I use to go to the Ralph's in Pico Rivera on Slauson. It's now closing so I had no choice but to start going to this one in Downey. It's actually closer to me as I live in Downey. I like their selections and it's easy to find everything I look for. The only reason I give this store 3 stars and not 5 is because of their costumer service. My cashier did not even greet me or thank me. She was busy gossiping about previous costumers to the bagger. She was not any better. It was as if I was interrupting them by shopping there. I'm not sure if management is aware of that. If they don't need my business I guess I will have to find a new location. read more

Great service! Today my mom and I were running around from store to store trying to fill up some balloons for a coworker's birthday. While four other stores including a different Ralph's weren't able to help us, Brandee W. at this location helped us fill up a dozen balloons. She picked out great colors, made sure they were put together in a presentable way, and did everything with a friendly attitude. I am so glad we stopped by here! Thank you again Brandee for your help! I know most will see this as just balloons, but we saw it as a person who went out of their way just because it was the right thing to do. Since the Pico Rivera store closed its much more crowded here and it was kind of always understaffed to begin with but its Ralph's so the experience is never too awful. They remodeled and put on a fresh coat of paint to give it more of a Fresh Faire feeling (Ralph's higher end markets) which paints a welcoming feel but price increases match that Fresh Faire vibe as well. Overall, it does the job if you're not near a Sprouts or Stater Bros and the generally friendly staff doesn't hurt either, though be on the lookout for two tellers in particular who don't smile and are a little rude. If they're not smiling to begin with get in another checkout lane. read more

Not a bad store but they really need to rearrange the flower area as it's smack dab right in front of the entrance making it hard to navigate as one enters. Another beef I have is why on earth do they place empty carts in front of every single register? . . .it makes it far too narrow and gets crowded with customers and employees as we are walking out. On the plus side, the meat dept is awesome. They will always cut meat to order and are super friendly and helpful. On a negative side, the manager (I don't know her name) treats the employees like they're third graders. About two weeks ago there was some irate customer who was complaining about the meat dept over an order. He was being impossible to deal with and also very rude. After the angry and rude customer left I went up to the assistant manager as he was talking to the two employees over what had happened and countered the customers complaint saying he was being rude and impossible to deal with and that despite this the two younger employees acted very professional and polite and are always very helpful. Make a long story short the two employees still got a bad review from the manager over this! She needs to be transferred to a desk job IMO as she clearly doesn't know how to treat her employees in a fair and positive manner. read more

I like this particular Ralph's store. Everything is neat and organized. Kind of expensive but is OK. Their cashiers are all very friendly and nice, except for the bakery counter associate. She is not polite. She never greets you. I think she kind of have mental disorder because even if you say hi to her, she never answer back. She never smile, may be she doesn't now, but she kind of scary me. Every time I see her I never buy at that counter. I happened sometimes to see their store manager, who is very helpful.
