Fast service and friendly staff. Food is cooked, hot, and delicious! I love eating here. I'm not sure of the raw meat review that was previously posted. I have never known anyone who has had a bad experience here.

People grow older, for some retirement is in their sights, sadly for some retirement is not by their own choosing by whatever circumstances. Some Proprietors have no one to pass their legacy to, and others pass it along with hopes and expectations that do not come to fuision. When someone takes over a small business their goal is sometimes not to make changes too quickly then to the detriment of the business some want to quickly make changes. Some changes chase people away. Hodges Cafe had a glorious heyday. Hodge was always a friendly face ready for nice conversation or life advise. The Hodge Burger was award winning in this area; people still crave them. Friday nights were great for a Hodge Burger then walk it off with a walk to the theatre for a movie (now closed) then walk back to Hodges for beers. Sad that most of the neighborhood establishments are gone now. Barberton had quite a few neighborhood places that could be safely walked to from home. It seems to now be a rarity that people can pass along anything and expect the recipient to love it with as much heart as the giver. Your public misses you Hodge.

This place is an Akron institution, and everyone should check it out. Now, I was going to post an update to my review due to a recent visit when I discovered I had never reviewed it, so I'll just tell you about that experience. I stopped in with my six year old after going to the zoo recently. It's perfect for a zoo trip, I think it's less than a five minute drive. It was a bit of an odd time, and we ended up having the restaurant to ourselves. We sat at the bar, and my son ordered a root beer (Bob's own label), a hot dog and fries. I ordered a Bob's Double Cheeseburger with everything, and a side of onion rings. It had been a while since I had been there, and I honestly don't think I've taken my son before. When we pulled in he said it doesn't look special. I told him it's iconic and a throw back, which I don't think he understood. So we are seated at the bar, and I'll say he thought it was pretty cool that he could watch our food being cooked like 4 feet away. He LOVED the hot dog, it's big, I think a quarter pound. He's usually pretty picky on fries, but he ate quite a bit of them, then wanted to take them home, lol. Now on to my food. If you've never had a Bob's Burger before, you are missing out. They are smashed and griddled and just delicious! An Everything is Onion, Pickle, Lettuce, Bob's Sauce, which is like this tomatoey, relishy thin sauce with a bit of tang to it, and Stray Dog mustard. Boy, the combination of the sauce and mustard, with the crunch of the veg and the gooey cheese and smashed, well seasoned patties is just about perfect in my opinion. Certainly a great burger, one of the best in the area imo. And the onion rings are just amazing! Hand battered per order, fried and crunchy, the onion is soft. Without a doubt my favorite in the area! I would be remiss too to not mention the staff. Our waitress was amazing, talking to my kid, asking him questions, just being so nice to him. There were several other people that worked there that came out and talked to him too. It was great! And when we left, my son couldn't quit talking about how special that place was after all!

In the past several years, ownership has changed hands 3-4 times and they've gotten further from what made them so good each time. I visited today and it will be my last attempt. There are several things you can do to ruin a great burger and they seem intent on checking all of the boxes. Weird, grainy and overly sweet "house made" ketchup: Check Oversized bun that is dense and almost stale? Check Horrible locally made pickles? Check Hopping on board with the weird trend of putting some of the condiments on the top bun and some on the bottom bun? Check I could go on, but nothing about the food at this place resembles anything they served during the glory days that allowed them to stay in business for multiple decades. Some people don't understand the concept of "If it ain't broke..". Too many Food Network style ideas with very poor execution. As soon as I saw the word "confit" in the description of today's special burger, I should have turned around and left.

Service couldn't be better and the staff is so friendly and outgoing. Wil's has just been sold to the owners of The Industry in Green on Arlington. Unlike Wil's, The Industry is a very upscale and expensive restaurant. The food is good but it remains to be seen if it is worth it. Personally, I cannot afford to make it a habit. I need to keep it for very special occasions. The fear amongst us regular Wil's crowd is that we will soon be seeing the affordable pricing and great menu being replaced by the more upscale owners. If that happens, then another affordable restaurant for seniors and the older crowd will have gone the route of so many others. Wil's has been around a lot of years and has survived the highs and lows of the restaurant world. They MUST be doing something right. My pleas to the new owners is if it's not broke don't fix it! Lots of different seating options, huge booths, intimate tables, cool bar area and looked like nice outdoor patio for warmer months. Our server was SO nice and attentive, offered suggestions of her favorites from the menu. The spirit of a drink I wanted was out of stock so she suggested great alternatives. Both of our sandwiches were good and flavorful, and fries well seasoned. Good portions. Would like to try more things in the future. This is the kind of place that feels homey, like your grandma is in the kitchen and your family is all sitting around talking. If you're expecting out of this world decor and fusion food, this is not the place for you. It's cozy comfort. Our only con was that the side pickles were not good (I prefer crisp they were pretty soggy). Would definitely come back with family!

It was a cold night (20 degrees or so), but I was surprised the restaurant it self was chilly. I'm not usually cold, so it was surprising. Second, I ordered the "Build an Entree" and chose the pork chop and broccolini as my side (it comes with two sides, but I asked for extra broccolini because of my diet). The pork chop comes out covered in this glaze that I find out is a bourbon glaze, but there are onions in it. I cannot eat onions at all (allergy), and nowhere on the menu is it listed that there is a glaze. The broccolini was cooked but was no longer warm. I mentioned these things to our server, and she said that their pork chop has always come with that glaze and it is mentioned on the menu. I asked to see a menu, and the only place the pork chop is mentioned is in this "Build an Entree" section, and no glaze/sauce is listed. The pork also looked slightly undercooked for medium, but maybe that's just me. They cleaned off the glaze and reheated everything, and the food was good. My wife had the salmon and very much enjoyed it. Finally, the check came and everything was priced 4% higher than the menu prices. When I inquired about that, they said it was because of credit card fees, and if we paid in cash, they would remove that fee. I understand the need for credit card fees, but it's not listed anywhere on the menu that they have such a fee, and the fact that it came out with such a fee built in already makes me question whether or not they reduce it unless someone asks specifically. All in all, it just wasn't the quality experience we were hoping for on a date night. I don't think we'll be back any time soon.
