Finally made it here for the dumplings, but amazed to find to so much more. Beautiful decor, and even a furniture store inside! We enjoyed pork dumplings. They offer beef, lamb, pork, and shrimp dumplings. We also ordered noodles, crispy shrimp, and Asian Cole slaw! Everything was very tasty and price was reasonable, under for $40 for lunch. Service was great and there was lots of parking! The atmosphere was amazing, with a small waterfall! Very different and a great experience!

While I enjoyed the food and the place was pretty I thought it was really slow for not being busy. I understand it takes a while to make the food but we also ordered to go food while we were still eating and it took so long we had to go ask. It was sitting there way. I'm sure it was a one off and I would def try it again.

Wow, words can't even begin to describe how COOL this dumpling joint looks like on the inside. Think...zen greenhouse escape + botanical pottery garden + tea house all in one. You walk in to that VIEW, order on one of the kiosks at the front desk, pick your table, and in just moments you're greeted by a table full of delicious wonderment. What we ordered: * Braised Beef Noodle Soup (5/10): Missing that deep flavor in the broth. The beef was tough. And, just overall, the dish was fairly bland. * Pan Fried Dumplings (10/10): These were SOOO good, it was a fight to get any in my mouth. My kiddos were devouring them like nobody's business. * Xiao Long Bao/Soupy Dumplings (9/10): Also deeply satisfying. Just not AS mouthwateringly tempting as their Pan Fried counterparts. * Fried Rice (8/10): WOW, you could taste the high-heat fire they used to cook this dish. Sooo yummy! Only thing is, everything IS a bir pricey for the portion sizes.

The dumplings were the star of the show! Loved how they were having a special! Everything was pretty yummy! It was a really cool experience and tons of furniture that was beautiful for sale too! Self kiosk first then sit wherever! pretty cool!

First time in, and I was greeted by a smiling, friendly face and an explanation that I was to order my food from the kiosk. THIS IS IMPORTANT: this restaurant is very much a serve yourself place. You order your food. You get your drink. You get your own chopsticks, plates, silverware, to-go boxes, and there is a place to put your dirty dishes if you feel so inclined. etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not typical in my experience. The kiosk is okay except for navigation. I wanted to scroll down but I was supposed to hit the arrow to see more. It's nice to see pictures of everything. We didn't have to wait long for our appetizer and other dishes began to trickle out over time. I would think of this a family sit down restaurant in a sense. Grab little plates and pull from the larger plates they bring out with your food. The food was okay. Not incredible. My fried dumplings looked steamed except a small place on the bottom. The ambiance feels very fancy at first glance, but a lot of the decorations to the side can actually be purchased. I found this a little odd with the large price tags. The music is so peaceful and the place is ideal for conversation. Styrofoam cups for your water and the self-serve nature keeps this from coming across as a fancy sit-down restaurant. Ultimately, there was no major misstep here... just a lot of little things that keep this from being a 5 star experience... luckily the friendly staff brought this up from 3 stars.

This is our second visit to the restaurant we're super hungry. It was rainy and gloomy weather and I thought it's a great idea to have noodles, dumplings, and some soup. I can definitely give 10 out of 10 for how great the ambiance and how nicely it is decorated inside. The table for set up really good very clean and they're ordering is really good because you don't have to stand in line. They are kiosk and it's an automated system where you go order yourself , based on your name, they will come and give you the food. It's an open seating, very organized every table has its own sauces etc. Let's talk about the food today. We ordered beef lo mein combo it was absolutely turned on 8/10 very delicious and meat was cooked perfection and has a great flavor. We ordered chicken fried rice I would give 6/10 It was missing some flavor the rice after 2 to 3 minutes it started to become hard. We ordered dumplings it was great 10/10. The fish soup was extremely bad. It almost felt like it was smelling like something went bad into that fish soup I could literally not eat that we left the whole thing and we went to the counter to tell the staff that the fish soup is smelling bad and literally nobody address our problem they said , the head chef is on leave today and the appetizer chef made the main course and all the soups. I'm sorry and they didn't even fix it. They didn't even acknowledge that if I need any replacement for it because I literally told them that it was gone bad. We all understand that things may go wrong sometimes, but I expect the service to help me correct that .

There's no getting around it: Rakar isn't worth it. From the food to the service to the ambiance, nothing was really up to par, and there are much better options in the KC area. My group and I ordered the Pork Dumplings, Crab Rangoons, Egg Drop Soup, Glazed Char Siu, and General Tso's Chicken. As much as I wanted to love the offerings here, the Pork Dumplings were underwhelming, the Char Siu was dry, and the other dishes felt very Panda Express, but for 3x the price. When you walk in, you order from a kiosk, pick up your food at the counter when called, and get your own chopsticks/sauces/dishes from a common area. It's not super clear that this is how it works because the space is fairly large, and a corner of it is a small market area. The setup is a bit awkward and makes the space feel huge and empty, so there's no real ambiance and the whole thing feels like eating in the restaurant section of an airport. All around, I was fairly disappointed and would much rather opt for Monkey King in Lenexa for Cantonese food (most similar to Rakar), Sichuan Dynasty in north OP for Sichuan-style Chinese food, and Hong Kong Star in Olathe all-around. If you're looking for extra special dumplings and are willing to spend a little more, I'd recommend Chewology in Westport.

One of the best dumplings I've had in KC! Very authentic and homemade. They have several kiosks that you can order from. After ordering, it is basically seat yourself at any table that is available. We started with 1 order of Pork Dumplings and realizing how delicious they were, we went back to the kiosk and order another order of Shrimp Dumplings. I would definitely tried getting them fried next time! I hope they expand their menu with more items maybe soup dumplings?

The food was phenomenal and we loved being able to eat family style. There was something for everyone! Unique ordering style--fun experience! The beef and shrimp dumplings were my favorite!! Even took some sidekick sauce home!!

My husband and I went to Rakar Dumpling House on Sunday evening around 4:30/5pm. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is spacious with a variety of seating for small to large groups. The aesthetic is homey with lots of home decor with tags still on (for sale). And you order via counter service (kiosks). Your name is called and your order is brought out to your table. Staff is very appreciative if you clean up your own plates (place them in the bins above the trash cans). For boba, I got the semi-sweet mango which was light and refreshing. My husband can't resist a smoothie so he got a mango smoothie, too. In addition to the pork dumplings (which were very good, by the way), we ordered egg rolls, crab rangoon, and pork fried rice. Everything was delicious. Especially the egg roll, which was probably the best I've ever had. And we were obsessed with the sweet and sour sauce.

My daughter and I went to enjoy lunch and ordered two lunch specials of fried rice with beef and general tsao chicken. We enjoyed both but added some extra spice to add a bit more flavor. Crab Rangoon is really good Pork pan fried dumplings were super good! Bubble tea is really tasty. I don't really like gummy bubbles so I would probably ask to not have them next time. Service was 5 star worthy. Everyone was helpful on ordering process, what to order and recommendations! It is fun looking around the home goods shop items while you wait for your food. Will be back to try other items soon!

    Popcorn chicken ($6).

tl;dr: Decent for the area and worth it to look around the home goods section, but what I tried was pretty mediocre. The menu could be condensed because some items just replace the meat of choice without changing much else. Half of the store is actually a home goods place and you'll see decor throughout the restaurant with price tags. I like the decor, but was in a rush and couldn't look around more. You order on a screen, pick up when your name is called, then bus your own dishes. I like the quick serve vibe. Service was friendly and helpful when I needed help. However, I'd don't think I'd come back for any of the dishes I tried. I grew up where Asian food was way more common and of better quality, so while I think this might be fine for more Americanized palates, I don't think it's worth eating out for. Beef dumplings ($6): I preferred these to the pork ones (normally I prefer pork). The beef ones had a heartier, more savory flavor. I find their traditional dumpling sauce too salty. The pan fry was good, though. Still, I've found frozen dumplings at the grocery store that were just as good or better. Popcorn chicken ($6): It looked undercooked, but it was actually fine. The flavoring was strange, like the coating had chicken bouillon instead of anything else I'd associate with popcorn chicken. I expected it to be more like Taiwanese popcorn chicken, but it wasn't. Luo song tang (beef and vegetable soup, $6): I was pleasantly surprised to see this on the menu because it's something I associate more with Hong Kong-style cafes. It's a sweet, almost ketchup-flavored tomato soup. Even though the beef cut isn't normally the style that goes in this soup, it was soft and velvety. The onions and cabbage were crunchier than I'm used to, which I didn't like. The macaroni in it really made it feel Hong Kong-cafe style, even though that's not normally how I've had this soup either. I was curious about other things on the menu, but if their namesake dumplings weren't great, I hesitate to try other dishes.

We loved the dumplings and the sauces. Tasted like the dumplings we had in Shanghai China. We loved the ambience and the staff were very helpful and kind. Will definitely come again.

Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended! I will definitely return to have more dishes like beef chow fun, the soups and last, but not least BIRDS NEST!!

My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. When I was a kid it was because I loved Chinese food and this is where my parents would go, and now as an adult it's mostly just nostalgia. Over the years I've found other places I like just as much, and some places in town that do certain dishes better, BUT there is just something about Bo Lings that feels comforting and that je ne sais quoi will certainly keep me coming back. This location in Overland Park is the closest to my house so it's the one we order from the most. They recently got into the delivery game which reintroduced them to me now that I'm in my kid era and very much too tired to strap two little kids into the car to pick up food when I can pay to have it come to me (I know I know kind of lazy but that's life!). At any rate, we ordered from here earlier this week and the moo shu was exactly how I remembered, I love that they make their own pancakes in house and they still are IMO the best ones in town, and the crab rangoon still slaps. Something else I love about Bo Lings is that they do a good job at staying consistent across all locations, which I imagine is not always an easy feat. At any rate, if you are craving Chinese food in OP Bo Lings will not disappoint!

I truly wanted to love Bo Ling, but this was one of the most disappointing dim sum experiences I've…read moreever had. We came as a party of seven and spent roughly $300 on dim sum and additional dishes, giving us a broad look at the menu -- unfortunately, very little of it was enjoyable. The noodle dishes were outright bad. Both the seafood pan-fried noodles and the beef chow fun were so aggressively salty that they were completely inedible. These are staple dim sum dishes that should be comforting and balanced, yet they tasted like someone dumped an excessive amount of salt into the wok, ruining any chance of flavor. The shrimp noodle roll was especially shocking. We ordered three plates, arrived early before the restaurant even opened, and the dishes came out cold -- not lukewarm, not barely warm, but cold. In over 40 years of eating dim sum, I have never been served a cold shrimp noodle roll. This alone speaks volumes about the lack of care or quality control in the kitchen. The char siu bao was equally disappointing. The bao itself was poor quality, and the char siu filling looked old, dry, and unappetizing, as if it had been sitting around far too long. When the egg tarts arrived, it became clear this meal wasn't going to improve -- the crust was underbaked and doughy, completely missing the crispy flaky texture that's expected At that point, it wasn't even worth taking food home. We left without packing anything because so many items were simply not edible. If there was any positive at all it was the har gow and the shrimp and chive dumplings -- the only dishes that met a basic standard. If you decide to come here, those are likely your safest options. The service was very good and attentive, which honestly made the food even more disappointing. Another strange note: this is the first dim sum restaurant I've ever visited that charges for tea by the cup. Everywhere else I've eaten dim sum -- and that includes China, Hong Kong, Macau, Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Chicago -- tea is either complimentary or charged by the pot. The tea service here felt oddly executed and out of place. I wasn't expecting high-end dim sum in Kansas, but I was expecting fresh, properly cooked, warm food. We drove many hours specifically to try this restaurant, which made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, despite good service, the food was unacceptable. This visit was a complete letdown, and I would not return or recommend it.
