Fresh, original, well-presented delicious food. A friend and I went here on a Tuesday evening to find we were the only customers that evening: A terrible shame because the food is a cut or three above your average Indian fare.
We had Onion Bahjee and Hariala Chicken to start. The onion bahjee was fresh, covered in a light batter and not too greasy at all. The Hariala Chicken was a delight. At first I was crest-fallen because it was presented like an amuse-bouche in a self-satisfied narcissistic modern restaurant that is all too common nowadays; however, the taste sensation that unravelled was a sign of good things to come - succulent, but firm chicken with a mouth watering burst of fresh mint and spice flavours.
For main my friend went for the Lamb Madras, while I went for the Fish Curry (Goan Style) and a brinjal (aubergine) bahjai on the side. Each dish was well presented with slices of fresh ginger and coriander leaves on top. The food tasted fresh with a fine balance of flavours. The Madras was properly hot and the fish was fishy! Just what you need. The aubergine wasn't over cooked, sloppy and greasy as it is all too often.
To finish I had a delicious sweet lassi, which had toasted seeds and nuts as a garnish - mm mm mmmmm.
Altogether a triumph and I will use them again for deliveries and eating out alike.
4 stars because it's still not "La Porte des Indes", but that's a different class (and different price ticket). And one small gripe - there was a fan on above the door which was rather loud; however, they were very happy for us to move table, but on a busy night someone is going to be stuck right under it. read more
