Well it's been a few years since my last time here and I must say they have definitely made changes. The customer service is really nice and friendly , the food is hot and fresh . I hav the combination plate with ribs brisket chicken and shredded beef all wich were delicious and all the sides as well . The beans were a lil lacking if it was up to me I'd add bits of brisket to them with some onions and they would be epic. The Mac and cheese definitely made a complete change from dry boxed to creamy cheesy pull goodness . I'm definitely going to be making a return trip. I tried the brisket, it was fine. I thought the pieces were sliced too thick, and tasted very strongly of liquid smoke. The smoke rings were weak, but the bark was strong and well seasoned. It was clear there was no brine, because as you got to the center of the meat, it was just boiled tasting, though tender and well cooked. Look, I'm not barbecue aficionado, but if I'm paying LA prices for some BBQ, I expect some solid BBQ. The slaw was also fine, but nothing special. A mayonnaise-y backyard slaw. My interest was peaked by a co-worker who encouraged me to stop by. I am very pleased with Raining BBQ. For it to be a food truck, they ate doing BBQ right in Beaverton, OR. The service was excellent and was greeted upon walking up to the windows. Small food truck ambiance is key when they are putting out quality food. This is the 2nd time we've come to this Food Cart! After going around, to see what else we wanted to try out, we came back to Raining! Hubby and I both picked the same bowl, his with Mac & Cheese and mine with Cabbage Mix. He said it will be ready in 5 mins. Less than 5 mins. it was ready! Now, let me tell you, how easy that was! The food was delicious! We could both have eaten the whole bowl, but I save mine for another meal, half of mine. Hubby almost ate all of his. It was NEATLY packaged and hot, when we got them and it was to go. Question: NO ONE can put together, a very neatly package, in layers and layers of perfectly measured, unless THEY WERE prepared in advance (from home)? It was almost like they came from a 'kit'. Super yummy and tender, I had the brisket, coleslaw n Mac n cheese. Brisket was delicious, Mac n cheese was excellent creamy and real cheese with stringy goodness in every bite. The coleslaw was good a little too sweet for my taste. The one thing that needs improvement is the BBQ sauce. The guys serve you with a smile and so nice. Pretty decent deal and you get to try everything. Pulled pork was ok. A little greasy but you know, fat is flavor. Kind of hard to screw it up too bad. Mac and cheese. Nothing spectacular. It's Mac, it's cheese, a little dry but I like it that way. Nothing earth shattering but didn't offend either. Pinto beans are literally just pinto beans. I'm a little sore at the guy for saying they were good when I asked. Pinto beans with no meat or seasoning is in fact not good. Loved the huge chicken drumstick. Cooked and seasoned through. Nice and juicy. Really good crust of seasoning. I don't really like bbq chicken because I think the flavor gets lost a lot. Not the case here. The rib was tiny. But oh it was delicious. Same run as the chicken and it gave the flavor all the way through. I wanted more. The fries are the kind you often get at pubs that have little crispy bits on the outside. Not bad, I walked away with the sampler so I could try a little bit of everything. For my two sides I chose mac and cheese and cornbread. Loved the mac and cheese, didn't care for the cornbread. It's not what I'm used to and I had ribs and cornbread for dinner the night before so I was definitely comparing. Comes with a big serving of fries which is shareable. My favorite was the (soft) pulled pork with the bbq sauce. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the chicken, ribs, or brisket. Was a little on the drier side for me. But what's funny is I didn't eat all the meat right away and it tasted way better when I warmed it up later and put bbq sauce. I could just be picky but I would still come back to try something else. We tried the babyback ribs along with one of the brisket-based items. Everything was very good quality and a great deal for the price, but the rub used on the ribs is WAY too salty and absolutely needs a hefty portion of sweet bbq sauce to counteract that. Fortunately we had a bottle of sweet bbq sauce at home, but without that, it would have sadly become inedible after just a few ribs. We're a bit of bbq aficionados after having had bbq in other parts of the country as well as Portland, and we've never had ribs rubbed with so much salt before. I gather not many who review Portland area BBQ joints have ever been to Texas. Or Tennessee or the Carolinas. In my travels around the PNW I have come across a few pretty decent BBQ places but even the best I've found can't hold a candle to even an average BBQ place in Houston, Austin or Memphis. Obviously, it would be unfair to rate a Beaverton BBQ food cart on the same criteria as I would real BBQ found elsewhere. If I did, Raining BBQ would be two stars and even that would be generous. Some reviewer mentioned that Raining BBQ wasn't as good as Dave's or Busters.... implying that this is where he goes for stellar BBQ. Which pretty much makes my point that most around here have no idea what great BBQ actually tastes like. Hint: if you have to drown the meat in sauce to get it to taste good, the food is a massive fail. I found the meat to be too dry, a complaint that I also have about Busters fare. And lacking any kind of punch absent the addition of sauce. I didn't like the fries at all. Really bad. I should have just stuck with the $10 menu item. Many of the single person meals cost over a Jackson especially since they apparently expect a gratuity...... a "custom" that seems to be peculiar to this area at establishments that don't offer table service. If I have to place the order myself, fetch it myself, all without any wait staff at all I consider a tip expectation to be a stupidity surcharge. Hard working, underpaid waitresses/waiters deserve financial acknowledgement if they provide excellent service and I happily provide it. Counter staff (IMHO) do not. I was going to post a three star (ok) review but the guy working there, who I assume is the owner, seems like an ok guy and a hard worker. I don't like to slam a business that's trying hard so I'll give more stars than I think the place rates and let the text of my review guide prospective patrons. I also have to mention that this food cart heavily promotes Joyous, an ordering app that I have never heard of. It sounded like a decent app so I installed it which turned out to be a major mistake. I should have knocked off a star just for this! The app is a pita to order from and once I was ready to send my order off if died complaining that my phone number is going through a VPN. Ummm.... anyone NOT going through a VPN is just begging to be hacked. Ditto for giving my cc info to some random app. Ain't happening! Plus, I am on a tablet and not a phone so my "phone" is a VoIP connection. I'll also add that once I installed Joyous I found out that it is only useful (and I use that word generously as the app is not useful at all) for a tiny handful of establishments. Their biz model is to bug people to contact other businesses and encourage them to become Joyous participants. Needless to say, I uninstalled the app and am not amused that this place encouraged me to endure this level of pain just to do business with them. I mention all of this because what attracted me to Raining BBQ was all the hype about the place. Hype that turned out to be just that. Hype. If you have no idea what really good BBQ is like then this place might suit you. But it left me cold. If it wasn't a local small business working hard just to make a buck I would have given two stars. Re-reading my review before posting it, it became clear that 4 stars is completely inappropriate and does not reflect my experience accurately. First, the customer service was excellent! We were given a run down of the menu and a hearty hello as soon as we approached the window. It was smiles all around from the guys in the truck. I'll be honest I was simply on a quest for brisket and I was not disappointed! Their brisket was incredible and worth the price. It was juicy, smoky from the pit, fat fully rendered, and totally safe for my keto lifestyle. The ribs we got were good too, very peppery, a bit saltier than I'm used to be we cleaned the bones! Yum!! Random side note- There are lots of covered picnic tables outside but we chose to sit in our car and eat because it was rainy. This is will be our number one bbq spot! We ordered the brisket sampler for 2 and it was delicious. It came with smokey pulled pork, 2 brisket, 2 chickens, 2 ribs, crispy fries, and 2 sides. For our sides we chose rice, we thought it would've been regular white rice but it was spanish rice (correct me if I'm wrong) and we were even more thrilled. The flavors of every meat satisfies your craving and the meats were so juicy and tender. My favorite meat from this sampler would definitely be the brisket! It was cooked so perfectly. The workers here are so nice and we had great service. I trust eating from this place because after I made my order the cook immediately washed his hands after touching his computer/iPad. The service was prompt and cordial but the food ranged from passable to inedible. I ordered two different sampler plates. The brisket was the best of the bunch, juicy and very tender although the flavor was not remarkable. The chicken was overly seasoned masking the flavor of the chicken. Came with a nice think slice of brisket, a rib, a chicken leg and a small serving of pulled pork. The brisket and rib were amazing - brisket was fork tender and rib practically fell off the bone. The pulled pork was pretty good but the chicken was very dry. It came with two sides and French fries. We picked coke slaw and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was good but the cole slaw could use some acid.
