This place is an Air Plant (Tillandsia) oasis!! Seriously, when I go to any other plant store all I see is 3-4 varieties of air plants available for purchase but Rainforest Flora is really the main distributor for most of those places. I even went to the Home Depot in Torrance and I saw the tag which revealed that Rainforest Flora was the actual grower. Why not just go to the source and save yourself the trouble of going to a bunch of different garden supply stores when you can just stop by at Rainforest Flora which has countless varieties of air plants. Besides the gigantic variety of Air Plants the store is pretty much built around a man made stone pond with a waterfall and real Koi fish and turtles just roaming around the water. The whole structure of the pond is filled with air plants all around and the store is pretty much around this garden. This is a great store with a huge selection and a really calm and relaxing atmosphere to just enjoy your shopping experience. read more

Paradise! I felt like I had stepped foot in to a tropical rainforest in Costa Rica. This place is truly a treat for a plant enthusiast. Their selection of air plants is impressive and extensive. I've picked up air plants $2 all the way up to $20 for unusual Tillandsia species. They have a parking lot and sell all the supplies you will need (driftwood, wire, tacky glue) to make your own air plant creation. This place is magical with a huge pond/waterfall, beautiful koi fish and air plants of all sizes. This is an indoor nursery so on a warm day it can get really humid inside. read more

Just called Rainforest Flora to make sure they are open for business during this pandemic. I have driven by three times in the last month and their gate off Hawthorne Blvd has been closed. The interaction I just encountered over the phone was so bad that it triggered me to write this review, which is the first and only bad review I have EVER written. Here is what happened... 1. A man answers my call. 2. I ask, "I called to confirm you are open during these times." 3. His response in a long drawn, deep voice oozing with sarcasm "We have never been closed. Absolutely beautiful! I don't know why I didn't come here sooner. I got a colocasia and a party time to plant. They have such a beautiful set up, and they allow you to take photos or video. If you are a plant enthusiast this place is a must. I'm not even that big of an air plant person but I come here regularly just for the atmosphere. They have a beautiful pond withs lots of impressive plants growing around it and on the rock structures. And koi fish and turtles. This place is the real deal. You can see back into the rest of the nursery where they produce their air plants. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. One time they gave me a free additional plant during the holiday season which I thought was very kind. The prices are also excellent for air plants. I wouldn't buy them anywhere else. I visited here on a Saturday and was instantly taken away with all of the beautifully arranged air plants. It was like stepping into a plant-lover's dream. Even though I had planned to stop by here since two weeks ago and had already seen a bunch of pictures of what it looked like inside, I was still super impressed when I stepped inside the nursery. Shopping for air plants here was made super easy. There are labelled bins full of different air plants and descriptions about them to help you learn about what you will be potentially buying. I had a lot of fun browsing and the whole place felt like an ethereal garden. When I was at check out, the shop keeper let me know that Rainforest Flora actually grows and distributes a lot of the air plants to nurseries around the nation. How cool is that? Basically, this place is a beautifully constructed natural environment for air plants that not only sells a bunch of them, but also grows them. My husband and I are moving into a new home soon and can't wait to shop here more. We have a lot of air plants on our wishlist that we would love to fill our future office with. read more

Such a neat place! First came here several years ago, and was taken by surprise when I walked in. You are immediately met with a huge rock structure with a waterfall, covered with more Tillandsias than you could ever dream of! I had to return recently to enjoy the view. The greenhouse is set up with filtered sunlight, which gives you the illusion that you're in a cloud-covered rainforest. All the plants for sale are sitting on trays around the perimeter, separated by species and prices. You can grab an empty tray and just walk around and feed your addiction. It's so hard to leave without getting something new for your collection. Staff is all extremely friendly and willing to chat. I was even given a couple freebies when I checked out, which was a fun little surprise! read more

I checked out a book on Tillandsia (air plants) and discovered these incredible plants that don't need dirt, rocks, sand, etc-- they only need air and some water- you literally dunk the plant in water once or twice a week for most of them!! I like them because they are very clean- no dirt, no little gnats, because you don't leave standing water around. You rinse them when you water them so they don't get dusty. This place "wrote the book" (literally, one of the founders wrote a definitive book on Tillandsia) and has so many cool varieties plus it is a nice place to walk around and look at the plants attached to rocks beside pools of koi and turtles. You can check out the book while you are there, they have it there. I can't believe I've lived in the area all of my life and always drive by this place, never realizing what a treasure we have right here, please visit and support local and unique businesses that make our city special. read more

I came here for the first because MSP just can't get enough of air plants. I like the place lots of choices and the staff is so friendly and helpful. This place is like a giant rainforest. I'm not into plants but this place is amazing and good way to learn something new. I'm not sure what I got but MSP said it's tectorum air plant (I say wha?)and I water it once every two weeks. I bought air plants from the Anaheim Armstrong. Just because they were so beautiful and healthy, I was curious where they came from and went on to Rainforest Flora site from the plant tag and simultaneously stumbled on Mr Tillandsia YouTube. My son and I enjoyed learning about the plants and finally got to drop by for a visit. Such a beautiful place and great selections. You really have to slow down to take in all the different varieties. It's like a little oasis or the slight humidity really takes me back to Costa Rica. Oh my gosh. This place is AMAZING. I've driven past this place for years not thinking anything about it. Then the pandemic happened and my herb garden grew to a small farm outside and a whole rainforest inside. My go to place to mentally escape. One of my friends introduced me to the place early on in the pandemic. I could wander around or sit by the waterfalls for hours and just watch the fish and turtles. The prices are a lot cheaper than home depot. If I'm feeling down or overwhelmed with the state of the world, I venture here and pick up a thing or two and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I wandered into Rainforest Flora one Sunday looking for water plants for my minimal upkeep indoor garden. Instead I found air plants! They were the perfect match for what I was looking for. This place is great. They have a lot of different bromeliads, are plants, and other plants available. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I was able to see many different plants here with my children. They love to visit the rainforest inside where you can pay a small amount for some food to feed the fish and turtles. It's like an adventure place for the kids. But to be respectful there because it is not a play place it is a place for plants. But it is a really awesome place. Distantly related to pineapples, Tillandsias are the Genus of plants that call the specialty nursery Rainforest Flora home. You may know them as air plants or tillys, and they represent hundreds of different species and hybrids native to Central and South America. Epiphytic by nature (meaning they grow attached to branches and rocks), Tillandsias are a unique plant for the seasoned gardener or an interesting foray into the leafy world for a new grower. Rainforest Flora appears to be one of the largest growers of these plants around. Rainforest Flora is located off a busy street in Torrance and has a large greenhouse showroom with plants for sale and plenty of free parking. Throughout the showroom there is a large pond, waterfall and many beautiful specimen plants. The staff are very helpful and they sell all the supplies to get you up and running. In talking to the staff I learned that almost all of their plants are grown in their own nursery in Torrance to reduce the impact of unsustainable collection from range countries. The different plants are labeled for you making it very easy to look up exact care requirements, unlike some places that just throw all the plants in a bin together. Overall I don't really have any recommendations, I'll just say A+++ highly recommended and I'll be back. read more

They have an extensive and unique selection of air plants, which we were not in the market for but ended up leaving with one anyways. Not sure what the negative reviews are for poor customer service -- this place had some of the best customer service I've experienced. So far, I have killed four plants that I buy for my office. With the lack of sunlight and fresh air (and probably overwatering on my part), nothing lasts for more than a month. I decided to buy airplants because they are low maintenance. I was on a mission to look for these and there are a few florists/green houses around town that have only a handful of ferns. However, Rainforest Flora is FILLED with air plants in MANY varieties. From tiny ones that are about 1" in diameter to ones that are 1.5 feet in diameter, you will find the perfect one of your needs. Also, Rainforest Flora is reasonably priced. I ended up buy four air ferns of different sizes and varieties. With the 20% discount during holiday time, I spent around $20! Plus, the nice employee gave me a free scented airplant just because it was my first time there! Score! read more

Wow... what a stunning place! Even if you have no interest in buying any of these plants it's worth a trip here just to see how beautiful it is and see the koi ponds. My mom is really into these air plants so she asked if I'd take her here. We weren't sure what to expect as it doesn't really look like much when you pull up but the minute you step inside, you're transported to a mini-tropical paradise. They have an amazing selection of air plants -- more than I've ever seen anywhere else and at what seemed pretty reasonable prices. My mom had a blast picking out plants and seeing all the varities. The reason I knocked off a star as there didn't seem to be much staff. It appeared there was only one girl at the register and nobody on the floor. The girl was way in the back when we went to pay, although they do have a bell to ring for service which was convenient. She was nice enough and no problem with the service but it would've been nice if they had someone on the floor to answer questions as you walk around the nursery.
