Houseplants, of the non-toxic to cats type, are fairly easy to find...especially here at Deep Roots. It's my new go-to shop when I'm having one of my "crazy plant lady" moments or even when I'm not. I have loads of experience maintaining my favorites: orchids, African violets, peperomia, and calathea. They're what I consider no-brainer plants - once you get a groove with watering, light and caring for these beauties, they thrive for years and years. Getting the groove however, well that's the secret. I spent a healthy sum of money on orchids for my orchid/sunroom. Learning how to care for and grow them took me a couple years, but these daya I can confidently say, I've perfected my process in my microclimate. I love that Deep Roots sells what I need to make me happy and keep my pets safe. Their phalenopsis orchids are tall with big, beautiful blooms. They have several varieties of calathea and peperomia...they're so healthy and lovely, they look like faux plants! Want to brighten someone's day? Any plant here will do just that! How long has this place been here?? First time here and love the vast selection of products at a competitive pricing. I found out about this place after driving down Hawthorne blvd and actually read the store name. Since I drive the street regularly, I never read the store names. They have lots of plants and feel like they have more variety than home depot. They have colorful potteries and various shapes and sizes. They laid out their plants and accessories super neatly! There's lots of parking in the back and sometimes Hawthorne blvd gets backed up so might be hard to get out of the parking lot. Will be coming back for more plants for my office cubicle! read more

We visited Deep Roots Garden Center for the first time and we had such an awesome experience. Upon our arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, we went to check our their cool and unique section of plants. They had a really big selection of all different kind of plants from outdoor, indoor, succulents everything you could possibly think of! It's heaven for any plant lovers with so many variety of indoor plants and good prices!

Signs say no pets allowed, but a staff told me if I can carry my dog it will be fine. I was really there to shop for a pet friendly plant or two, and the staff provided me their amazing pet friendly guide, super helpful with pictures with plant names, so I know what I am looking at. There are so many different varieties to pick and choose from, I ended up getting a big Cast Iron plant with the help from one of the amazing and helpful staff. I could be there for hours if I have to, it feels great to look at all the different plants and feel so refreshed being inside. The plants are all in amazing shape, it was not hard to pick the best but definitely hard not wanting them all, it is an amazing shop! read more

We have been buying our Christmas trees from Deep Roots for many years when they were located on Sepulveda. They were always fresh and last until New Years. Sadly this year our Christmas tree was really dry even before Christmas Eve. Not sure if they used a different grower of they were cut earlier. Very disappointed. I have done several a dollars worth of business with this nursery since moving into my new home in the neighborhood a couple of months ago, and have been very happy with both the service and the selection. However, when I went today to buy six large landscape plants, I was treated with utter disrespect, almost disdain, by an employee when I asked for help selecting my plants. I am 60 years old and I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly in a retail setting. I was so shaken that I left and never intend to return. I ended up driving several miles out of my way to Moon Valley Nurseries, which has EXCELLENT customer service and a huge selection. It was well worth the extra driving time. read more

Sadly I never like to get bad reviews especially to local businesses - this is not the first time I have received flowers that were unacceptable. I received a few arrangements from here after my father passed away & I felt they didn't last and were poor quality at that time as well. I just received these 2 days ago and I think the picture speaks for it self. Jon the owner and I have known each other since we both attended Mira Costa High School. We were several grades apart but I've always known he worked at the plant/flower shop. Year after year you could depend on Jon to always put in hard work at the shop and every year he did an amazing job. The staff at Deep Roots Garden Center was very helpful and this location has it's own parking lot and what looks to be a very nice selection. So, parking is easy and with their parking lot, it's easy to load up your purchases. I saw they sold venus fly traps, cactus, live lady bugs and other things here, so it's a neat place to visit too. They have horrible customer service! Not once was I greeted or asked if I needed assistance, when I finally checked out, the young lady seemed bothered that she had to ring me up, which felt awkward. The prices are about 20-30 percent higher than home depot for items of the same quality, and the returns less generous. You have to return something in 24 hours; Home Depot will take anything for at least a credit with no questions asked. You will have an easier time getting an employee to answer a question here, but the quality will depend partly on the employee. One of the young guys there had to go and ask a different person for every question I asked, and put a plant on my cart that I didn't want put on there. Be careful to check the prices; sometimes what you will see is the price of the vase and not the plant. read more

I visited for the first time today and I felt like I had entered heaven. Mile high fiddle leafs, giant monsteras, happy plants everywhere I looked. The selection of plants is amazing, everything looked so healthy and well taken care of, and the prices were very reasonable. The staff was also incredibly helpful and friendly but left me alone to explore uninterrupted, which I really appreciate. Not only did I find a bunch of gorgeous plants I never knew I needed and perfect pots for them to go in, but Dustin helped me with a dracaena issue I'm having, walking me through all the steps of repotting and working with me to find all the right tools I needed (while seeming genuinely concerned and invested and not just trying to sell me things). I left feeling hopeful and satisfied and excited to come back. I have a feeling I'll will be returning probably far more often than is necessary. read more
