Upon parking a woman ran over and rudely asked me to move. After asking me what I was looking for she directed me to the area. I had to walk back to the office and ask for a price to which she asked me for a photo. I didn't do that because she told me where to go look for the plants I was looking for. She then proceeds to go online and gave me range because she was too lazy to walk up and come look at the plant I was asking for a quote for. Today I came to purchase 2 of their bigger planters that they had available, $$$ as we were leaving a woman approached my son and I, and was questioning us why we had thrown trash on the floor, we didn't realized in between the two planters there was an empty water bottle and a garden glove inside that had fallen out when we were loading the planters on to our truck. She didn't have to come up to us with an attitude assuming we were just dumping trash on the floor or have to be rude about it. I asked one of office workers what her name was Mary the owner, what a disappointment to treat people like that Not knowing I had just purchased a good amount of stuff at her own nursery. We came to get some milkweed plants, but found their prices higher for this plant than other nurseries, but they do offer a $5 off $20 if you check in on yelp. They didn't have the exact milkweed plant I wanted, so we ended up not buying anything. However, just walking through, we found the nursery very clean and organized. The trees were all lined up perfectly, and everything was well tended to. We didn't stop to look at the other varieties of plants they offered, but it was a pretty small nursery. read more

I was told to call this garden center and they said they had a 5gallon plant that I needed in stock. They even text me a tag of the variety I was interested in which I was very appreciative of. They provided me the price so I went the next day (today). I asked the ladies in the office and the men in the field and they directed me to the plants. I searched and found 2 gallon plants, a couple of them and since they're pretty challenging to keep healthy they didn't look their best. They do have a lot of healthy looking plants like salvias, but I didn't find what I needed. It's disappointing to drive out to Carson when they say they have something and they don't. It's a waste of time and gas. I was really looking forward to buying this plant. The people answering the phones need to learn what 2 gallons vs 5 gallons is. It's essentially a 1-6 year difference in a plants life and it doesn't fruit until the 3rd year. I found a Salvia Amistad 5 gallon for $20 which is $5 cheaper than other garden centers near me. It looked very nice too. But I simply left empty handed as I felt a discouraged after my interaction with the other plant I was intending to buy. They need more helpers to assist customers, more signs to know how much the compost, soil and fertilizers are. And more signs in general for perennials and shade plants. The place has potential as a garden center for general customers, but they probably make most of their money selling to other garden centers or contractors. Oh well. read more

This is a fun, family-run plant nursery that really utilizes all the land that can be afforded by being in Carson. I needed small amounts of sod. Rabbits love a nice, little patch of grass. Most sod sellers require a very large minimum order (think 200+ square feet) or sell out very quickly, like Home Depot. Here, I can get grass rolls for cheap and I can get nice 5 square feet rolls. It's all first come first served but the office people are accommodating and sometimes you can reserve a piece. As I said above, there is a lot of space. Succulents, trees, and massive cacti dot the business. Some basic gardening supplies and landscaping stuff can be had as well. An innumerable variety of plants are available; some are meant for outdoor gardens and some are perfectly good as indoor decor. There are not many hanging options and air plant selections were either small or non-existant. With a good selection of plants, helpful staff, and enticing prices, this business is worth going to, even if it's going to make me drive an hour and twenty minutes round trip. P.S. there's a brown lab dog that will make you play with him and his ball. You're a war criminal if you ignore him. read more

We own a nearby business and our landscape needs updating so we googled the nearest nursery and found Maria Garden Center. The selection wasn't that great and some of their plants are much pricier than her competitors. Maria's employee said landscaping contractors gets a 20%. We asked him if he can look up our contractors information since he has shopped at Maria Garden Center before. We were told our landscaper has to physically be at the store. So we called our landscaper and he said he can be there later in the day to get the order. Maria then came to inform us even if he showed up later she won't honor the discount since she has to restock the item plus she will charge us 20% restocking fee. We told Maria that doesn't make sense because that defeats the purpose of us picking out our own plants. Other nurseries we have purchased at allowed us to pick our own plants and they put it aside for us until our contractor can come by later to pick up. Maria got mad and said she is the owner and she is the one who decides who gets the discounts or not. She is extremely rude and disrespectful to us. We decided to take our business elsewhere. We went to another nursery instead. Better service, better selection and cheaper prices. With so many great nurseries out there, why buy from someone who treats their customers that way? We won't be recommending this garden center to anyone in the future. Edited. Just came back from the other nursery. My mother and I visited Maria's Garden Center this week, and we were surprised by how large the lot is. We didn't explore the entirety of the grounds, but we were able to casually see a lot of what was offered. All the plants looked healthy. My biggest criticism is that no one greeted us upon entry, but once we found and asked an employee if they had any dwarf lemon trees, and the employee said no, we saw no point in looking further because that's what we were primarily shopping for. read more

We're frequent customers of Maria's and adore this place. They have a great selection, reasonable prices, and excellent customer service. We've been working on renovating our front and back yard landscaping, and we've been able to easily source agave, succulents, flax, and ground cover here. We particularly appreciate the pricing and ease of purchasing mulch -- you purchase at the front office and then they'll load up your truck bed in the back. i ordered 2 plants 1 was a syngonium pink butterfly what ingot was syngonium neon robusta so disappointing and the other was a calathea Stella that looked as if the leaves were burned from.too much incorrect lighting on top of this I had the heat protection that was far from being useful because the syngonium only had 1 petal that survived even though it was not the plant they advertised and the calathea petals had to be removed with in 24 hrs S well because they were damaged from the cold as well when I opened the.box all the heat packs were on the bottom of the box and not attached to the side of the box to hold them in ace like most all other online plants shop do I reached out to the. 4 times now via email and they don't respond back so my conclusion is 1 they give bad customer service and don't care 2 they falsely advertise the plants.they have and don't care and must think customer are not smart to realize the plant in the picture is not they they sent so I have learned.my lesson I guess 50 lessons suck I will never recommend them to anyone and I will go on the gb plant groups I'm in and warn everyone ot to buy from them as well simply bc there was response.back indicating that as a business they care about the customers satisfaction.with their products I don't even want to give them 1 star that's too much read more

I was on the hunt for the perfect olive tree. Javier was very helpful, taking us all over the grounds until I found the perfect one. He explained the differences between the different olive trees, so know, you don't have to be an expert to shop here. While I was there, I saw one individual beautifully arrange a vine-y plant with flowers onto a lattice. This was in a matter of 15-20 minutes and he was done! There's so much to look at so I suggest taking a stroll through the grounds and smelling all the beautiful blooming flowers! Not to mention the prices were just right. I brought in my 96 year old grandmother with me to pick out a few plants for her yard, because it was very warm and she isn't very mobile, they allowed me to drive her through the lot and pick her plants. Yesterday, my dad and I went to Maria's to purchase a climbing rose bush that my husband and I had looked at a month ago. I went during my lunch hour, so I simply arrived, asked a worker to help us load it and went to the front to pay for it. A month ago I was priced at $120, but yesterday the manager (clearly the owner) priced it $150. I said to her, "I had already been priced at $120 about a month ago. She asked me who had said that. I don't usually go around asking workers their name so I said that I didn't know. She said, "I'm sorry that is the price" and walked away. I followed her and said, "I'm not trying to haggle you, I'm just trying to pay the price that I was given last month." She said, "I'm sorry" I told her that I would not be returning to this nursery although it is only a mile away from my house. She still didn't care. Guess what? I bought it anyway because it was a birthday present from my husband to me. A month ago the climbing rose was very green and fully bloomed, and now it had many burnt leaves and the blooming was almost over, so I thought that it would be cheaper. I was wrong. The only thing left to do is to write a review of my experience for not honoring the price that I was first given. I'm giving Maria's Garden Center 2 stars because they do have lots of plants, but their prices are the same as Home Depot. They are definitely not a bargain. I'm very pleased with the prices of their trees and the quality and price of the labor in planting. We researched and selected trees for a long time. We found a high end nursery out of town and wasted nearly an entire afternoon there. Their prices were double to triple what MB charged us (and their trees were smaller). We set up a purchase at MB after comparing prices. After selecting and tagging trees, we decided to change from fewer larger trees to numerous slightly smaller ones. They easily accommodated this change since the trees had not been delivered. Install was timely and quick as well as affordable. The trees are high quality, well priced and the install was professional, clean and competitively priced. We shopped around on the labor for planting and found MB to be fair. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive. We are very pleased with their work. read more
