The ambiance is still great after all these years, and they still do the "thunderstorm" every 30 minutes. Beautiful tropical fish as well in multiple tanks. The animatronics were good, moving throughout our time there. They had holiday hats on as well for the season. Our 2-year-old daughter loved it, and we got to keep the cup that came with her kid's meal. The menu options for her were great too, and the portion size was large. We enjoyed our selections as well, and the meals were delicious. The bathroom was a bit messy though. We were also informed after ordering that the kitchen was running slow, and there'd be a 30-40 minute wait for the food, which, with a little kid, we would've liked to be informed before being seated and ordering. You're paying for the atmosphere and not the food, that's always the case with places like this. But I have to call out the mango habanero glazed shrimp in the Taste of the Islands --- very very bad. Just overcooked and flavorless. The rest of it was ok. For the price of the mixed drinks it would be nice to get any alcohol whatsoever. The Blue Nile tasted great but was just juice. Should have gotten a beer. We were in around 4pm on a holiday weekday...service was a little slow but nothing crazy, and our server was good. So no complaints there. I know that the rainforest has been around for a very long time. in the beginning it was so unique that everyone went and kind of bypassed the food. Now this place is starting to lose its atmosphere as well. A lot of it is very old, in need of repair definitely the electronics and the rain used to be a lot better than what it is now. I highly recommend the grain bowl. You can get it vegetarian style or add chicken/shrimp if you'd like. It comes with a variety of veggies over a bed of quinoa. I got mine topped with chicken. Perfect restaurant for kids. It may be a little uncomfortable to meet up with friends here and their drinks are pricey, but it's a kids paradise. My children love to walk around the perimeter and see the robotic animals, steam, and water features as well as walk through the gift shop and look at the fish. All this you can do for free. Once your seated (you'll want to make a reservation during peak times), you get a full view of birds, butterflies, gorillas, elephants, and so many fish. The ceiling is a start sky and all around you is vegetation with hidden animals, both fake of course, except the fish. The food is ok. The kids meals are relatively standardly priced and come with the usual fries, drink, and I think ice cream. The "grown up" food is ok based on what I've had. The cocktails and even drafts are expensive. I paid $13 for a standard pint of draft beer. Had the prices been marked, I would have stuck with water. Even so, your kids will be happy and blissfully occupied for your entire visit. Every 25 minutes or so the steam increases near the bar and "thunder" and "lightening" go off along with all the animals. They move and make sounds. As an adult, the food would be 2, prices 1, and environment 3. After asking my kids, they rated the whole experience 5 stars with one critique to "add more baby animals." read more

This is a one and done kind of place. Service on a Sunday = excellent. Overall vibe = fun for the under six crowd. Food = Hit or miss. First of all, the table who sat before us received their food first. Appetizer = Chili Con Queso? This was just processed queso - no chili about it. Do NOT waste your money. A fun place for dinner especially for kids. The restaurant has lots of animatronic figures to look at. There is a thunderstorm every 30 minutes which the animals react and make different noises also. My wife ordered the chicken tender basket as nothing on the menu looked very appetizing. I ordered the fish and chips after a recommendation from the waiter. It was the worst fish and chips I ever had. The fish was stale and the French fries tasted like they were fried in old oil. How do you mess up French fries? For what they charge the food could be wayy better. My husband got the fish tacos and the fish was overcooked and came with almost no sauce. My daughter and I got the fish and chips and the fish was a bit dry. The music was far too loud also. This review is not a reflection of the staff that work at the restaurant as I think they are doing the best they can under the circumstances of the ongoing pandemic. Rather this review is a reflection of the experience, or lack there of, that the restaurant offers to families and small children. We made a reservation as the last time we were in the area the restaurant had a five-hour wait time. The front staff were friendly and courteous to all patrons, especially as they had to deliver the news that there was a three-hour wait and were met with disgust from diners that didn't think ahead to reserve. We were sat near the aquarium archway which held our attention until the first rainstorm. Our server was prompt with their initial visit, took our drink order, and gave us some time to look at the menu. As we were there for lunch, I was a little taken aback by the prices. The kid's menu is actually quite reasonable for the price and the amount of selections, which is good for a restaurant that primarily attracts families with kid(s). What they offer in value on that menu, the adult menu isn't as sweet of a deal. With most entrees tipping the price scale of $20-$30, a party or 4-6 can easily spend upwards to $150 dollars after food, drinks, and gratuity. I don't mind spending money on food, especially when there is an experience involved. The experience doesn't have to be a simulated rain forest every 17-minutes. It can the be the way food is plated, the rhythm that the front and back of the house displays as they fill patron orders, or even the cleanliness of the silverware. Sadly, the restaurant really only leverages the simulated rain forest and animatronics to justify the experience. A rundown of the food that was ordered: Kid's macaroni and cheese with fruit: three year old loved it, although the fruit (apples and oranges) were bruised and soft and not edible. Ribs: more fat than meat, fries were over seasoned and soggy. To add an extra half slab will run you upwards to $12 and would not have enhanced the meal at all. Chicken sandwich: chicken was very dry, fries were over seasoned and soggy. Really the sandwich is presented really poorly, in a basket and not on a plate. For the price, you just expect more. Fish Tacos: probably the best presentation of the food and best tasting dish, but the black bean side really wasn't a side worth promoting on the menu. Taco salad: when you're familiar with the cost of most ingredients that make up Mexican food, it's hard to imagine how they can justify a $20 price tag. Nonetheless, it was edible. In the end, we were able to experience the simulated rain forest six times during our visit. I'll let you do the math of how long our visit was. I won't be visiting again as I'm confident that it's an experience that really won't be changing over the years. It's a cool concept, that obviously has longevity, but really doesn't do much to justify another visit. read more

I got the text saying we were in line along with a link to view the waitlist, which was great because I watched as our table got closer and closer to #1 spot. We continued to wait the 2 hours and continuously watched getting excited that our table was going to be called. at 530pm We got to the #2 spot and we all of a sudden disappeared. I didn't see a notification or anything so i went to the front podium and said "we were in line at #2, then our spot disappeared". the server looked up my name and said "yes unfortunately we had to remove you from the list because you were called and you never replied... you were notified 20 minutes ago". I told him I was watching the list i never checked my messages because I never got a notification. He kept saying the word "unfortunately...." I said well we are here now can we just be in the front and have the next 6 person table? he said "unfortunately we cannot give you a table because you never replied.." I told him we never got a notification and he continued to make excuses. phones are finicky. I found that I got one text with no notification. I didn't think I needed to continuously check my texts because I was watching the list on the website (refreshing and seeing how close we were getting to the #1 spot). When the notification was not answered why didn't they at least try again or at least call to let us to let us know. WE WAITED 2 HOURS. I also don't understand why he couldn't let us just have the next 6 person table because we have been waiting just like everyone else. We had 3 young children so disappointed and crying because they couldn't accommodate us. They offered to put us back on the list and have another 2 hour wait but We left furious sad and disappointed. my heart was broken for my 9 year who was sooo excited and crying because they wouldn't seat us. This was not one of the better rainforest cafés that I have been to. I had heard quite a bit about this play and I had high expectations. Don't get me wrong. The server was great and the food was OK. It's just the ambience was not what I was expecting. From other restaurants I had been to. Really cool place to eat for the ambiance. You have to make reservations or it's an hour wait. The do have gluten free noodles and buns but don't advertise it on the menu but I just asked. I ended up getting fish. It was dry and wayyyy over cooked. It tasted awful and I barely ate it. My daughter ate the coconut shrimp and said they were gross as well. While we were eating we seen wait staf vaping in the back room where they bring the food from. This time around we had reservations which helped as we had our table pretty much right away and we were in the cat section. If you're looking for an 'experience', go for it. If you're looking for quality food WORTH their prices, turn right back around and wave goodbye to the boa hanging from the trees as you BOLT. My little one ended up with penne-style mac and cheese with corn and two slices of orange. I, however, shelled out $28.99 for Redfish Portofino and it was awful. Simply awful. It was on their Taste of the Island Menu. Ugh. It was too spicy and nowhere do I recall it saying it would be (I have zero-tolerance for spice, so I tend to avoid it at all costs...) It had ONE piece of lobster on top. The fish was blackened (the photo did not indicate this either.) I did ask my waitress if she could double-check the menu to see if it indeed said 'spicy', but she returned with another iced tea and my check. No matter the day you choose to go make sure to always reserve, online or by phone. To start off our waitress was super kind, helpful, and patient. The food however was meh. My husband had the blue mountain chicken sandwich and really liked it. I had fried fish tacos and although they weren't bad they could use some more flavor, definitely had better fish tacos. The worst was my daughter's meal. I ordered the Mac and cheese with broccoli and apple juice for her. The Mac was so bland and kind of dry; definitely wasn't expected because it's so easy to make especially if we're ordering it at a restaurant. I don't get how you could mess up something that simple. We've been here a few times, and most of the visits have only been okay. The atmosphere is always welcoming and we are usually seated immediately. Even though we aren't here often, we all have their rewards card. The kids love the animatronics and fishtanks and will be entertained for most of the meal with this alone. We just ate here as a group (4 adults, 5 kids age 3-9). They didn't give us enough of the coloring books/crayons even after we asked for more, so my wife had to go and grab a set by the entrance. The food took a long time to come out, but the place was only half full when we arrived. We even split into 2 billing groups, so one could have been brought out first. Two of us ordered drinks and they tacked the souvenir cup fee onto the bills, which we had removed (watch out for this if you get any exciting beverage: my first visit they told me it was mandatory with a beer, then at future visits they told me it wasn't...I already have 2 of their cups in my cupboard and don't need more). Our waiter was okay in a general sense and was friendly, but something seemed off (distracted?). The kids' food must have been good, because they ate pretty much all of it (chicken nuggets, pizza, and mac 'n cheese). A few taco salads were ordered (served in large taco shell bowls) and everyone was pleased with those. I got a pork sriracha flatbread and didn't care much for it: the pork was dry on the ends like it had been toasted, there wasn't a lot of sauce on it, and parts of the flatbread were overly toasted. I wouldn't order it again or recommend it to others. The price is also pretty high for what you get in terms of food. However, if you factor in the experience with the animals and fishtanks and consider that you can have a meal without your kids screaming throughout it (because if you're at a mall, they likely aren't enjoying your shopping anyway), then the value is there. I knew this place was going to be expensive before we even went there. I had read the reviews and this was one of the main complaints. And yes we spent $50.00 on lunch! Most things are $20-30 and we even only had water to drink and no dessert. I thought the experience would make up for it. Some of the kids were scared of the loud elephant noises that periodically played. The animation was good and made the animals seem realistic. The fish tanks were another kid highlight which was nice we were sat right near one. Reservations are a must and we had them. We seated quickly but service was slow. We were starving and it took about 40 min to see any food. The food was pretty good but not for the prices they charge. I would've rather gone to the food court to eat something better and cheaper. You pay basically for the experience. I had ribs which said it cane with fries and coleslaw. Coleslaw is listed under the sides. Tried to change the coleslaw to their mixed veggies (also listed as a side) and was told I couldn't because the coleslaw was a garnish on the dish. ???!!! It came in it's own separate dish. This is my childhood restaurant I love the concept and the lively animal displays. All the employees are super nice and it is great for families or a fun date. The food is also really good as the restaurant brings a modern aesthetics. I tried the China island salad and it has a mix of sweet and tangy taste. It was definitely a new flavor that was good. The other appetizer was a normal chicken breast with colored chips. What makes this restaurant unique is that it has their own store and aquarium inside. I usually don't get dessert but I really like the volcano ice cream. So make sure you make room for dessert and a lot of help because this volcano will erupt your mind. Me, my daughter and granddaughter went to Great Lakes Crossing to do some shopping, walking around for a bit we worked up an appetite.We stopped in at Rainforext Cafe because of course my granddaughter thought it looked fun and the menu also looked good!! Well good it is not. I ordered the taste of the islands which was tilapia , coconut shrimp, some other kind of shrimp, island rice, and steamed vegetables. The talapia was tasteless and rubbery, the rice was super hard and grainey, and the coconut shrimp tasted like chemicals!!! I'm not gonna go on about the other 2 dishes but nobody ate their food cuz it was horrible!!! Bill came to $95.00 and none of us ate our food!!! The waitress was nice and friendly but this place should not be in buisness!!! I would not recommend going here to eat!!! Seriously some of the nastiest food i've ever had!!! -10 stars...... I really like the Rain Forest cafe. It's a fun place to visit, even if you are just walking around the restaurant and store without purchasing anything. And they often have fun things going on for children. The workers are all very nice and accommodating. And if you join their club (Landry's select club), you get lots of perks. This includes a $25 welcome reward and $25 birthday reward. They do charge a one time fee of $25, but you get it right back in rewards. I would have given 4 stars for my review. The food was really all delicious, except that my steak was very tough and had gristle in it. But I will definitely be back again. read more

Went here for lunch with some friends and our children. It's located in the mall, across from the sea life aquarium. The decor is cool; the animals are fun and the thunderstorm is entertaining and the kids liked it. We were seated immediately which was good, and the waitress was really nice. She was accommodating, especially when I asked her if we could water down my son's apple juice (I don't like him drinking too much sugar). These are the positives. As for the negatives, the food on the menu was expensive, even for fairly standard fair and especially for lunch. The specials menu did not list any pricing. I have no interest in asking what the prices are before ordering, so even though some of the choices looked good, I didn't even consider the items on that menu. I don't understand why a national chain would do that. I ordered the fried shrimp, which came with fries and Cole slaw (which I asked to omit because I don't like it). The shrimp was soggy, with no seasoning. The fries were bland and boring. Especially considering the price, it was very disappointing. My son's meal (Mac & cheese, with applesauce and apple juice) was fine, but nothing special. Overall I wouldn't return.
