I had to re-write this as there was a Golden Buffet on Highland Road and Airport. When we moved to the area, we would go there but watched it decline over the years. This one is very good, lots to choose from. I like small plates so I can sample many different items. I would like to see kimchi on the salad bar. On Christmas day, 99.9% of the time, I'm out doing Chinese food because that's what I do. This year, I went with my friend, her husband and another gentleman to this buffet in Waterford as that's where they'd wanted to go. So, off I went. In regards to buffet's around here in Metro Detroit, there really isn't one that stands out, so I went in with low expectations. The bonus of eating here is the food's actually good with a decent selection of dishes. Plus, considering it's Christmas day, it was only about $18 a person, which is a good price. (We shopped around a little, and some were as high as $25 per person? Yea, no.) I had a few different dishes and all were good. We really liked it and our drinks were usually on point. The dessert section was disappointing and was lacking considering how much other food they had here. Place has a good amount of seating, so there's no shortage of that. Another thing that we all had a good chuckle about: they have some handwritten signs saying that "excessive food waste will result on an extra charge." What's considered food waste, and what's the charge? I thought that sort of stuff was more of a comedy sketch thing and didn't realize these buffet's actually do this. I guess it's a thing. Would I go back? Probably for the price only or if it's another holiday where few places are open, but not ever my "go to" place either. It was far more expensive than what I expected. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and it was $57. The sushi was minimal and looked like it had been sitting there for a while. Not much selection. They did have a hibachi but there was no one at the station so not sure how you eat it. The dessert was ok, but we didn't see a chocolate fountain. There was ice cream though, which was the highlight of the whole thing. The food was all fried and not good. Everything looked crusty. This is one of those places my kids beg me to go to, they love coming here. We only just discovered it a year or two ago, but not when we are on a break from school, this place is high on their list to come eat. We always have a great experience here. I know it is not the biggest, newest, or have the largest selection, but what they have is tasty and fun. I really enjoy their sushi. It is also on the small side, but I have not had a bad roll yet. They have plenty of the accompaniments to go, like wasabi and sauces. They have the traditional American buffet selection with mac and cheese and meatballs. I love the stuffed mushrooms and the krab stick bake. Mei fun is one of our favorite noodle dishes, so good! If you like chicken dishes, that is what they have the most variety of, the peanut chicken and coconut chicken is so yummy, and the bourbon chicken was very good. I love the jalapeno chicken, the peppers were cooked to perfection. I wish they had more shrimp, but the fried shrimp was good. The kids really, really enjoy the chocolate fountain. they have plenty of fruit and cookies to dip, plus the traditional buffet sweet table with small cakes and pudding. The soft serve ice cream is good because they have a couple sauces plus a few toppings. The staff seems friendly and the prices are not bad. There is a coupon you can print as well. I truly am not sure I trust this food as being safe per health regulations because although I expect buffet food to be somewhat cold, this buffet food is REALLY cold. Like possibly unsafe cold. I have a feeling this stuff is old and held in a cooler for weeks and is certainly nowhere near fresh. The only thing you can somewhat trust here is the stir fry Mongolian food they do. Even that kind of sketches me out. I wouldn't trust the sushi with a ten foot pole. I enjoyed this place a lot as a kid but as an adult I really just... am not sure... Food = probably old, definitely cold. Including all meats and soups. I will not patron this place again which is a little sad. Service is awful don't expect a refill for any of your drinks either. Let me preface this by saying I generally don't like buffets. I worked in foodservice for many years and I've seen too much to really enjoy them, lol. But honestly this place was not bad. As far as the food goes--pretty average for the 'main' dishes. I actually preferred the 'sides'. The wonton soup was my favorite as the broth was very flavorful and the steamed wontons were delicious. I appreciated them having steamed rice and not just fried. I love this place so much. I first started out with a fresh plate of sushi and hot tea. The sushi was really good! I loved it! I went up for seconds and got an egg roll, spring roll, rice, teriyaki chicken, and a piece of pizza. Hmmmmm I loved the freshness and quality of the food! My third plate was a mix of General Sao's chicken, pepper steak, and rice. I already ate so much from the last two plates that I couldn't finish the third plate. It was delicious. Im glad I found this place. I had dinner with 3 people and our total was $53 I can't wait to go back. The interior is amazing and beautiful as well. They have a lucky fountain with real fish! Wow! My sister told me of this place and we decided it was a great family lunch outing for all 7 of us. I've had Chinese buffets before, and the place I used to go, really went downhill. So I was very excited to try something new. I have to say this is now one of my favorite Chinese buffets to go to. Though for me its a long way to drive and a little hard to get to, unless I'm visiting my sister's family in Holly. I loved the fresh sushi options,I believe there was 10 different styles to choose from. The entrees they set up on the buffet was always hot and replenished when the staff saw it was getting low. Which made it great that it was sitting out for too long. They did have a salad bar and a dessert bar but I wasn't interested in those because it was typical for most buffet to have those items. A plus that the buffet sections were always clean and no spillage. The restaurant itself looked clean and the tables were constantly bused. Staff was only there to refill drinks, so I couldn't say much about being friendly, though we always had refills when we got back to the table from the buffet area. The only thing I missed from my old place was the steamed dumplings....but I can live with that! And lastly, the money you spend here was very well worth it! Very reasonable and great for families on a budget. And you get a fortune cookie at the end...enjoyed family reading what fortune they received. read more
