The service was excellent, the portions was plentiful and the selection of Italian and Greek food was unbelievable. The owner greeted us and asked us if we had enough and if we enjoyed our meal. We did...and we had leftovers because of the generous portions. read more

This is my favorite pizza place period! They also serve a ton of Greek dishes. They are very generous with the toppings. I usually order their #1 special pizza which includes: Salami, Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Italian Sausage I need to find the pics I took of my pizza. Words can't describe the awesomeness of it.....they don't put just one layer of toppings here...it's stacked! It's perfectly made with a crispy crust and bottom. If you come at lunch you have the option of ordering by the slice or whole. They have coupons on their web site http://www.rainbowpizza.com/coupons.php They aren't open on Sundays. Came here based on Yelp reviews to grab a couple of sandwiches for takeout. It was a Friday night and this place was hopping. Tons of people ordering and picking up food. as well as lots of people going to sit in. Seemed a little loud inside but looked like a good place for families and kids. Saw lots of people ordering pizza and other items. I ordered the 3 meatball Sammy and the beef and lamb euro. The Meatball sammy is huge. Only able to eat half of that thing. Check my photo and see the sandwich. IT was tasty and covered in marinara sauce. The Meat gyro with fires seemed to be a good size and since I don't eat lamb, my PIC(Partner-in-Crime) said it tasted good and would go back again. Maybe next time we can go for sit in. If you want to order to go, check the website and call in. Since they are so busy it took then about 20 minutes to get it ready. Good thing there was a Starbucks next door so I could grab a drink while I waited to kill some time. Good local joint and lots of people eating here so they can't all be wrong. Seemed like a lot of regulars picking stuff up. Come try it for yourself. read more

Went back a second time... for takeout this time and even my parents, for whole I brought lunch, were amazed at the portion size. We got a half Cesar salad and it fed all 3 of us together with only the spaghetti with 3 meatballs and we still had leftovers. Never touched the chicken parmigiana we got. That they are leaving for the next 2 days (!) anticipated! And the taste my dad thought was even better than Il Forniao... he thought (we recently had that). And I liked the onion rings I got. The price was a little steep but for the size of the portion one gets, I think it is still worth it! We would still recommended Rainbow Pizza even for takeout! read more

Been a customer for over 25 years. We always order our favorite items and eat family style. Food is consistently good. Strong flavored dishes. Highly recommend the gyro sampler plate for perfectly crispy steak fries covered in deliciousness. On the last visit, the pizza crust alone was so good-- great taste & texture. Portions are generous. Pricey for a casual place, thus the 4 star rating. Averages $30+ pp. We keep coming back, but not as frequent, due to the cost. read more

Came here last night for dinner since the other place we wanted to go to was booked. Turned out to be good. Reminded me of one of those cafeterias for tour groups in Greece or Italy. The decor is kinda funky like that. The food is served in huge portions though. So come here with a group and share! We had the following: - Shrimp with white wine lemon sauce - awesome sauce and shrimps were cooked just right. - Linguine pescatore - this was probably my favorite dish. it came with hella seafood and a cheesy tomato sauce. I wished it had the spicy tomato sauce instead though. - calamari - needed more flavor but it's calamari.. can't complain too much. :) one downside tho... i felt their food came out lukewarm... i wish everything would've been served right when it came out. but i guess they were busy on a saturday night... that's not a good excuse tho. probably won't be back here even tho i haven't tried the other stuff like pizza or gyros. read more

I did not try the pizza here since I'm dairy-free, but their spaghetti was not bad at all. I asked the server if they could add veggies to my spaghetti, and they delivered. Big portion, that's for sure. Three of my co-workers ordered two pizzas and alfredo to share, and they had a bunch of leftovers. This place is perfect for group events as their portion is meant for sharing. I ordered pizza for my family, and they loved it. Super packed (they do not skimp you on toppings). It's a bit pricey, though (Medium for $40, I think).. Anyways I highly recommend it. read more

Pizza is excellent if you like huge crust with lots of toppings. Staff is moderately friendly in a weird kinda way, but the restaurant's atmosphere needs reconfiguring. It's so hodgepodge with seating and little booths. It needs a good cleaning and redesign and it would be a great place to eat in. It's best to take out. read more

We went there with my friends and a newborn. Place was chill, and had the infant seat. We had the Caesar salad and calamari, with a smaller pizza. To me the portions were huge, so all of this was pretty much enough, we had leftovers. Food was great, would go again. read more

THIS IS A 3.5 star review. I'm giving them 4 instead of 3, because I believe my next visit will be better now that we know how they do things.... The pictures really show what this restaurant is all about. Here's a rundown of what we ordered and our take on the flavors, worth, service, etc... Mozzarella sticks- pretty normal, previously frozen, not hot enough when they came out.. the crust was still blonde in color, looked like they weren't even cooked. Luke warm. Had to pay $1 extra for a 1/2 little plastic cup of ranch! That was wrong. - 1/2 star Appetizer of spanikopita and Tiropsitka(sp?).. tasty, but again, previously frozen and just warmed up. Wish this came out hotter. Also, $7, not worth it for 6 little pieces. Gyro- chicken- WORTH IT!!!! Delicious with the soft pita, cucumber, tomato, onion and yogurt dressing... They also have lamb. WILL ORDER THIS AGAIN! Comes with steak fries if you wish. VERY filling, very delicious!!!! The hot/spicy pizza (forgot name)- delicious. Not that hot, but loved the jalapenos! Great fluffy, thick-ish crust. A bit too much tomato sauce, but next time we'll order light sauce! The Italiana- personal size.. enough for 2 people, easily! LOTS of toppings (pepperoni, slaami, sausage, hamburger, fresh tomato).. again, I'd order this as a flatbread pizza if they offer it.. there were actually too many toppings for my taste! If you like meat and a lot of it- ORDER THIS! Well worth the 12-13 bucks for the personal!!! Super filling- great value! The other pizza was a combo (forgot the name) .. my friend really enjoyed it! Said the toppings were fresh and really good. Basically, we WILL BE BACK! I'm going to get another gyro, and maybe try a flat pizza with light tomato sauce and just one or two toppings! Great place, something-for-everyone, nice service, great flavors! The pictures already posted are exactly what we saw! read more

The garlic clam pizza was really good. I was reluctant to give this a try at first because it didn't have any sauce on the pizza. To my surprise, it was really good because of the melted cheese (abundance). The calamari was also good too. The portion size was generous and good to feed a family of 4 - 5. read more

I have been eating here since 1984. I LOVE this place. Rainbow pizza offers a lot more than pizza. They have a huge selection. On cold days I come here just for the minestrone soup. I also sometimes come here for lunch and get a sandwich or gyro. Their seafood pizza is awesome. read more

Rainbow Pizza is the best pizza I've had in my life! I looooove coming here for dinner, and I've actually been coming here since I was 8 years old! Their food is consistently good, the servers/kitchen staff are on point and because they are family owned/run you feel at home eating there. We know the family that runs RP and they are very cool, we've watched their son grow up! It's because of them we went to Greece in 2000 and what a beautiful trip that was!! We usually order a half salad and a personal pizza with mushrooms, onions and garlic, cooked well done. The crust is thick, pizza is delicious and the salad is always a nice compliment to the meal. We've tried other things on the menu, which are all usually very good. However, we stick to their pizza since it's so yummy. read more

Came by to pick up a meatball sandwich for lunch. Sandwich was definitely grotesque...which is fair since the sandwich did list for $7.99. Bread was fresh and there were 3 HUGE juicy and meaty meatballs! :D They even used a nice marinara sauce w/ pieces of ground beef too! One caveat...the sandwich was definitely on the salty side...They did slice my sandwich in a half...but not the meatball? *see close up pic! *Use the coupons on their website to save even more! read more

Rainbow Pizza is located inside Crystal Springs Shopping Center in San Mateo. They should be awarded for having the largest menu - big in size and offers a variety of choices including pictures. We ordered: -Garlic Bread - I think more garlic could have been used, but it was still tasty. -Fried Calamari - The fried calamari was served with a side of tartar sauce. This dish didn't WOW me! -Large Pizza (1/2 pepperoni & mushroom and 1/2 All the Meat You Can Handle (#9 on the menu) - Very generous with the toppings! The #9 was a bit too salty for me since there were 7 different meats (Canadian Bacon, Pepperoni, Salami, Linguisa, Beef, Sausage, Bacon). I asked for thin crust and was happy it didn't come out soggy from the pile high toppings. =) **SERVICE** Our waitress was friendly, but the bussers weren't that bright (-1 star).. **PROS** Big portions Generous with toppings Huge menu selection - If you don't feel like pizza, there are other choices Greek & Italian Cuisine Good for groups Good for kids Easy to find parking Safeway - can grocery shop before/after eating Starbucks - if you're fiending for caffeine Cute Decor **CONS** Ventilation isn't that great Service can be slow if it's busy I will be back to try out the other items on their menu. read more

Great local restaurant that has a humongous menu that's sure to please everyone in your group. Large staff that's always there to serve. We arrived at around 7pm and had to wait. When we finally got our table it was so fricking noisy I couldn't hear the person sitting next to me...so noisy it hurt my ears. I had the beef stroganoff with pasta. I chose it because it said on the menu it's their most requested plate. It was mediocre there was something missing maybe the sour cream...I kept adding parmigiana to see it that would help, but no. Perhaps they are better known for pizza, but I don't care for pizza. I am very critical person when it comes to food because cook is my passion and this place is a disappointment...I will not be returning... read more

It wasn't a 'Pizza' it was a Casserole!!!!! If you're looking for a traditional thin crust pie, this is not the place for you!!!!:( If you prefer A THICK MAN PIE, this is you're place!!!!! I got full off of a small!!!! And I didn't eat ANYTHING all day!!!!! There were so many toppings on it, it had to be eaten with a fork!!!!!! We came here for dinner, me, the hubs, and both kids. I figured with a menu this big we would all find something we wanted to eat. Obvs the kids got pizza, they have a huge pizza menu and lots of topping options! My husband got a pasta and I got a salad. We had a few issues here. The food was just not very good. The food takes a long time to come out even when the restaurant is mostly empty The quality of ingredients isn't there. The kids got a black olive pizza, and you guys, they put WHOLE olives on the pizza. Like you couldn't even see the cheese because the pizza was covered in massive whole olives. My kids didn't know what to do...and for the first time in their lives they barely ate their pizza. My salad was ok, nothing great and my husbands pasta was beyond oily. This place seems like maybe great hangover food? But not much more. read more
